Same comfy booths as the Jurupa Valley location and possibly, better cooks, too. Much better, except for the fries as detailed below. I recently visited this location in Riverside. It just opened last week . Pollo Campero originated in Guatemala in 1971 . It has become a cultural icon in Central America. I ordered the 3 piece chicken with platanos and yuca fries in the drive through . The chicken was flavorful, the yucca fries were pretty good and the Platanos (fried plantains ) were on point. Arrived shortly after it opened to get a quick lunch in before the traffic started. That 91 is a beast. Drive thru available. Nice spacious outdoor patio area with umbrellas. Inside was clean and organized. For napkins, straws and lids, You will have to ask for these items at the register. They're not by the soda station and no napkin dispensers at the tables. They did have the Cholula and hot sauce bottles readily available. Bathrooms need a code for entry. Not sure if there were any dipping sauces because the staff didn't understand what I was asking. Also some of our orders were missing items. Always room for improvement. Was told the staff taking our order didn't understand English too well. Gustamalan fast food chicken place. Its like KFC but better. We ordered a family style of fried chicken. With sides of Mac and cheese and fries. Food came out quickly. The chicken was cooked to perfection. Extremely crunchy. Very soft and tender meat. The chicken breast was even moist!! Which says alot!! The sides were really good. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Really complimented the chicken. Fries were crispy and pillow like inside. Wouldn't think this place would have good fries but they do! The inside is really small. But the tables do turn over really fast. As it is a fast food place. The parking here is horrendously small. I can imagine during rush hour there would easily be no place to park. The booths do move back and forth, which would be a problem if your sharing a booth with a rowdy or obnoxious person. The reason I have to minus a star is we sat by the windows in the corner and there must've been at least 5 or 6 large flies buzzing around. It was down right disgusting. Ambiance: the inside looks nice. It is brand new so that is expected. Good amount of seating. Felt they could've utilized the space better but that's just being picky. Service: I seen others getting great service. Ours was just ok. Drive-thru Staff Cursing at customer at New Pollo Campero- this girl started cursing at an elderly customer because the customer wanted to check her order and noticed that the pieces of chicken requested weren't correct. This employee kept saying "WTF I am not an EXPERT" and calling customer rude because customer was frustrated. I've gone to this Campero on La Sierra several times. Half the time they don't have the chicken you want. Other times, you're told you have to wait 15, sometimes 30 mins for chicken. This happens a lot. It's literally a drive-thru: you ask if they have certain chicken on their menu; you're told it'll take 30 mins. to prepare; no one in their right mind is going to wait that long; so you drive-thru: to the El Pollo Loco across the street. It's really a problem for working people wanting a quick lunch. This is a management problem. Management either is not carefully monitoring how frequently chicken it advertises on its drive-thru menu is unavailable and why, and/or it's content to shift the burden to potential customers. It's really a pain because you try to order at the drive-thru menu, you are told they don't have what you want on the menu, and then when you want to simply leave, you usually have to wait until the cars in front of you leave. So it's like a bait-and-switch: one thing's on the drive-thru menu, you're told they don't have it, so now to avoid going elsewhere and wasting more time, you have to settle for something on the menu that you don't really want. No downside to Campero: it has sold something to you, so it's happy. I've gone to the nearby El Pollo Loco for years; they've never told me they don't have something advertised on their drive-thru menu. Why not be transparent? If Campero is trying to save money by not buying certain food items on its menu because they are too expensive for Campero to buy and put on the drive-thru menu, why not delete them from the menu? If Campero is understaffed and can't fix food fast enough, why not post on your drive-thru menu that there will be a 15 to 30 min. wait for some items? The answer's obvious: people will read that and, if they experience delay, they likely will not come back. In the meantime, the burden of inconvenience is on the customer. This Campero needs to learn that, normally, customers do not express their disappointment in a lengthy Yelp review, but with their feet: they don't come back and leave management to figure out why. If Campero feels this review raises issues that need correction, it is more important to implement the corrective remedy(ies) than it is for management to reply to this text with an expression of concern as if management does not already know about these problems. If Campero chooses to reply, it would be better to do so, not with boilerplate expressions of concern for public consumption, but with an acknowledgement of its problems and an itemization here of the several corrective steps it will immediately implement to stop the continuation of the problems. P.S.: I don't know why this post shows I live in Canada; I live in Southern California. P.S.S.: I've looked through some of the earlier Yelp reviews of your business. Julie L. (11-16-25) wrote, "They said it would be a 12 min wait but it ended up being 30." Lopez S (11-4-25): "Wanted to try roasted chicken and they were out of it." Danny S. Part of what she wrote was: "To top that of, after she took our orders, she informed us that most of the sides that we wanted is unavailable and they dont have roasted chicken anymore. So pretty much, we take whatever is available, which we dont get, we went there around 3pm, so I don't know why they can't make another batch since they made us wait 20mins for our orders anyway. it was my first time here and i was actually surprised food was good since it's fairly new. i got the two piece meal and picked a thigh and a breast. i wanted "spicy" but they had told me they didn't have that (i wanted to try their cayenne and habanero sauce from the "spicy chicken sandwich") but i just had cholula and their signature green sauce to pick from. i just ate it plain. the chicken was really moist and well seasoned. it was too soft in some places (fat?) and greasy but just ask for extra napkins haha. the taste is worth it. their mac and cheese was a bit too soft for me but my sister enjoyed it. taste was fine just soft texture. i went for the dinner roll instead of tortillas and it was just a regular little yeast dinner roll. the cookies were probably my favorite...i loved them. i was coming in for flan but they ran out and i was glad. i took them home and warmed them up to eat with milk. they had the perfect texture and taste !! they tasted like semi-sweet chocolate chips (which are elite in baking) and were pretty thick, big (palm size), and full of chips ! the service was good also. the cashier seemed a bit shy but it was my first time and they had no problem prompting me/giving me choices. it also helps that they have pictures of the side options right at the cash register. we grabbed a seat and the meal was brought to our table. if you get "dine in" they have real, washable dinnerware ! that was surprising since it's "fast food" (i mean they have a drive thru) but it's so neat. less single use plastic and stuff. ambiance was mellow and nice. i came at night and it wasn't loud or busy. they even have tvs and lots of seating options to pick from. it is also really clean, employees were doing their jobs. when i came in there were some dishes but when i sat it was all cleaned up. it also seems very family friendly. they have some booths and lots of high chairs. would love to come back to try the flan and their citrus grilled chicken. i would say they do need more trash cans. i only saw one in the whole dining room (small circle hole one by the drinks). it's probably because of the reusable dishes but it wouldn't hurt for napkins and stuff. i tried the mango drink and i'm not sure if it was because it was late and almost empty but it tasted a bit watered down for my liking but it also says it has peach and nectarines besides the mango..i was expecting full mango flavor. 4.5/5.0 stars read more

To those saying it's "too spicy," it sounds like you're used to cooking with nothing but salt and pepper. This chicken is full of flavor, not heat, and that's what makes it stand out. My only complaint is the pricing--it feels a bit steep for what you get. Also, the sides come in oversized containers that are only half-filled. It's wasteful and gives a misleading impression of the portion size. Switching to more appropriate containers could cut costs and potentially lower prices for customers.
