Pollo Campero's food is really good. My favorites included both fried chicken and grilled chicken. I really love the grilled chicken Campero salad. The ingredients are fresh and it is delicious. It is made to order when an order is placed. The staff at the register offers a "Welcome to Pollo Campero" greeting. They are courteous and helpful. This location is spacious and clean. It has ample indoor dining space to accommodate their customers. The restroom is always immaculate. The beverages are self serve at the beverage station. I love dining at Pollo Campero. read more

Pollo Campero always surprises me in a good way. The chicken is really well done. Whether it's fried or grilled, they just know how to cook it right. Super flavorful and juicy every time. I also like that they have a decent salad and rice bowl when I want something a little lighter. I do wish the sides were better. The options are kind of limited and the portions are pretty small. The fried chicken is good; browned nicely. I didn't eat it at the restaurant so it wasn't as crispy as it probably would've been. Still.. really tasty, it's just a little bit different than your popular fried chicken restaurants. I tried their mashed potatoes. The gravy is so salty for me since I'm used to lower sodium. It's just okay. The mashed potatoes are thick and not as creamy. I really like the fried yucca. Not salty so it's a perfect complement to the chicken and potatoes. It comes with their special sauce. It's almost like a thousand island type. I made a corn poblano salad with avocado without any salt just to have something healthy on the side. I'd skip the mashed potatoes next time. read more

I usually like eating Pollo Campero, this time my family and I had a terrible experience. When get there and order fried chicken and the manager tells us that they're not selling all fried chicken anymore, it's either mixed or only roasted chicken. Which was odd because when I looked around the restaurant everyone had fried chicken on their plate. The manager insisted that they were selling plates only as half roasted and half fried all day. So they only sold us one roasted plate of chicken and 3 fried chicken plates. This made me loose my appetite because not only was the manager rude and had an attitude with us, but we saw one of the servers walk by with a full 12 piece plate of fried chicken. I was so upset with this customer service. They only wanted to sell us what they felt like selling. The place was nice and nice but the management makes or breaks a place and this one ruined my family dinner. Our excitement to eat at this place dropped after today's rude service. read more

Pollo Campero is not to be confused with AMC's hit show Breaking Bad's Pollo Hermanos. This is my favorite fast food restaurant chain currently. They're dishing out flavorful Guatemalan inspired chicken recipes and plethora of delicious side dishes and beverages. After visiting the Hempstead location recently, I was in the area and had to fulfill my craving by stopping in for lunch. I read the high praises on Yelp and just had to redeem my free piece of chicken offer ! I come here for 3 staples: Fried chicken, Yuca fries and The Horchata. One day I'll be health conscious/ adventurous and sample the salads and desserts. Service here was pleasant. Yeini was managing the front end and she was very kind. Chicken arrived fresh out the fryer upon arrival, so that made me very happy. I dined in and everything was perfect. The horchata was delicious and so was everything else. The dining space here is more modern and cleaner than the Hempstead location. New plush seating that is comfortable and bright cheery colors of orange and other earth tones. I love that they serve your food on real plates. I'll definitely be back to dine. read more

This is visit #2. My daughter and son was with me today. We ordered the 12 piece fried chicken dinner with 2 sides(fries) and then I ordered an extra side of coleslaw. The chicken was crispy, juicy and delicious. The fries were hot and my son the french fry expert deemed them delicious. The coleslaw was good. The sweet ice was not sweet and a little old BUT the manager immediately replaced it with fresh sweet tea. I did the survey that was on the receipt and afterwards wrote the verification code on the receipt. You have to buy a side and a drink to receive 3 pieces of Chicken FREE. So my daughter ordered a drink and a side order of mashed potatoes with gravy. The mashed potatoes were very hot and delicious. They also got the mango drink and they love it. I was hoping my kids didnt drain the juice tank....they loved it so much, lol My only complaint is no salt/pepper shakers on the table.....I love salt and pepper, probably too much. They do have a salt and pepper packet in the plastic utensil sleeve. That's not enough to keep me away. In closing....this place is a keeper and we will be returning again. The roll was just a dinner roll. My daughter got the 6 doller special which was 3 pieces of chicken, rice and roll. The grilled chicken had a good flavor but she didn't like the mushy skin. The rice was plain with little to no flavor. She got the mango drink which was very good. They didnt have pepper and salt on the table or even individual packets, they will give a clear sleeve with the napkin, plastic utensils and 1 salt and 1 pepper packet. The staff was very friendly and informative when we asked quite a few questions. There was so much food, we had to ask for to go containers. We will definitely be coming back. PS. Keep your receipt because some (not all) have a survey you can take online then write the code on the receipt. You then can buy 1 side and 1 drink to get 3 pieces of chicken FREE. The grilled chicken was a bit dry, but the flavor wasn't bad. The plantains and cream were very yummy. There's a pretty young crew working there, and the work ethic was a bit lacking. I like to go here for lunch because the staff is friendly and they are very clean. Usually, when I place an order my meal is made fresh, and I have no complaints. Yesterday my colleague and I went for lunch. We didn't have to worry about standing in line, so that was great. However, before we walked in to the restaurant another customer after walking back to their car noticed that they received the wrong order. The staff took back the order but also put the chicken back on the shelf. I learned of all this from two other customers who were conversing amongst themselves. That definitely changed my opinion about this location. If their supervisors read this please have your staff exercise cleanliness when it comes to incorrect orders. They should not be returned to the shelf. read more

This location is much like other Camperos, but they actual give you fresh food all the time. Only issue, you will wait. And wait some more. I usually come with 30 minutes to spare, and will leave with the tastiest chicken of the speedy Guatemalan variety. The drinks are good, Tamarindo is my favorite for the tangy aftertaste. The black beans are vegetarian, as well as the corn salad, rice, yucca fries, plátanos, and even the mashed potatoes and gravy. Never heard of this fast food place before, thought it was new but learned that it's been around and very popular outside the United States. It's a Latin style fast food chicken restaurant. Walked in and the line was all the way to the front door. Was going to leave, but then my curiosity got the best of me... so many people, it must be good. The place reminded me of like a Boston market style eating area (plates if staying to eat and family friendly). I ordered the half chicken meal fried; which comes with two "classic" sides and pre-selected chicken pieces: one of each breast, thigh, leg and wing. I choose the campero beans and campero rice for sides. I also ordered a two piece fried meal (breast & wing) which came with one classic side. You have the option to upgrade your side to a "signature" side (plantains, yucca fries or some type of corn salad) for 30 cents more. And you can add a side to any meal for 1.99 more. So I decided to upgrade to plantains and add some yucca fries. I also ordered two empanadas( BBQ guava and the Peruvian style) and a Tamarindo drink. All meals come with a choice of a tortilla or roll. For the overall cons: I didn't like how depending on what type of piece of chicken ordered the price fluctuated. And the upgrade thing with the sides. On to the food: they highly advertised the authentic/signature Latin seasons and taste of the food. The chicken had a good flavor to it. It was nice. To me it tasted like a mix of KFC and the local halal crown fried chicken spots in nyc. The rice was great, good flavor and had roasted corn in it. The plantains were sweet, cooked well ( wished they put more). The yucca fries were OK, a little dry but nice and thick. The beans were just ok, a little too much salt. The BBQ guava empanada was awesome, would definitely get that again. The Peruvian one, not so much, tasted blah to me. The tamarind drink, I will not get again. The taste was ok, but the consistency of the pulp in it threw me off. Should have gotten the horchata, seemed to be a hit. Overall, if you're in the mood for some chicken it's a good alternative to the normal fast food chains. I completed the survey they had on the end of the receipt, so I'll be back for my free empanadas. Next time, i'll try the grilled chicken and might get the horchatta too. read more

I was so disappointed when I walked in, the place looked messy and unattended. We waited about 10 mins for our food to be served which is good. I was happy although I had a bad impression because the food was delicious but there was no ketchup, and no lids for our drinks and when I asked the staff I got a very rude attitude no apology or nothing. This place is very different from the first time I went there, about a year ago. The food has always been good, but when I first went there I had to wait a long time for my food, and when my wife went to get the grilled chicken they never had any on Friday nights which made her very mad (my wife loves the citrus flavor). It's seems like there are new people in charge, and they look like they are moving faster and trying to serve you in the best way they can. My wife was happy when I brought back some fresh grilled chicken over the weekend. I went there for lunch and tried the empanadas today and they tasted like my grandmother made them when I was a kid, delicious flavor and brought back some memories of happy times!
