If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Pokonobe Marina has to be one of the most beautiful places in Mammoth. Shane, Dylan and the rest of the staff are always so accommodating and friendly. There isn't a better place to rent a pontoon, throw in your pole and take in the fresh air. We visit a couple times a year and we always look forward to their warm welcome. Everything from beginning to end was great! We initially went to Lake Mary Marina but we're told only online reservations were what they were accepting. But,....they mentioned this place and are VERY glad they did. We were able to rent a double kayak and 2 paddle boards for the afternoon. We rented 3 kayaks a couple days ago and a pontoon boat today. Lake Mary is beautiful and we had so much fun! We saw eagles and ducks. VERY SHADY BUSINESS, they charged us for a boat rental made on June 3rd, my party as well as multiple other customers arrived at 8am for the boat rental but no one was on site. We checked the entire dock area, as well as inside the lodge and no one was there. We waited till 10am and no one showed up. The phone number on their site leads straight to a voicemail telling you to email them for questions. They don't answer their emails though. When i booked our boat rental in May their site said they were taking rental reservations for June 6th onwards but I had mistakenly made the reservation for June 3rd. I emailed asking if the reservation was still going to go through and if we would receive service but again no one answered. That same night though they did charge my credit card for the boat rental reservation. After we left I emailed them again asking about our reservation and have still not received any information. I am contacting my bank for a dispute regarding this. By the way their website now says reservations are for June 15th onwards so someone is managing the business but ignoring emails. We got lucky I guess because that day was windy and their boats were in poor condition and didn't seem to be well maintained. read more

This review is regarding the marina rental service. Once we walked in, we just walked up front to the desk and talked to the guys and told them what we wanted. It was literally that easy. We rented a double kayak for 2 hours, we on the water in less than 20 minutes. He handed us our boat slip, and that was it. The guy who gave us our kayak and life vest was nice and courteous. He was more then willing to answer any questions or concerns we had. I didn't have any reservations, so I feel I might have gotten lucky to just have walked in and get a kayak rental so fast. read more

Beware People !!!! 2nd Jul, Rented Pedal boat and a Tandem Kayak for Hour at 2:00 PM. In the Store, Their Credit Card system was Down. Had Big sign Board " Accepting Cash Only". I paid Cash but the clerk still filled out the Credit card and DL on a form, saying for Insurance purpose and will be shredded once you return after you done boating. I returned back to say, I am done and the same Clerk said you are good to go and said Bye. Two days later My Credit Card app shows a charge of $106.45 from Pokonobe store. I tried calling the number on the website and goes to voice mail. left message, still no body returned my call to fix their mistake for charging twice. And on top they charge more than the day their store had charges showed on the board as $45.00 an hour. Credit card was charged $100.00 an hour plus taxes. I have opened a dispute with my credit card company on these charges. Pokonobe has No Customer service at all. Their Phone - no one Answers, Their Email goes for Reservation. So I Emailed there and asked to forward to the Store. They are not organized, If they Accepted Cash, then they should have a Stamp " PAID IN CASH" Transaction Complete, on the Form where they took my CCard and DL info. As to not charge twice for what was paid in Cash. Other than this issue, all went fine that day and the Attendant giving us the Boat and instructions was very Nice and Cool Guy. Update:- I received Email From Michele Lansiti, She forwarded my email to the Marina and the Accounts. So Far three days and no word from Marina or Accounts. read more

A woman almost drowned in the lake after her kayak capsized. Luckily a boat near by was able to rescue her. When bringing her back to the shore, the Pokonobe resort employees were inconsiderate. People helping the woman and her family told the staff to call a medic to which the staff member said that they had cell phones so they should call instead and that they were not liable. Another staff member told a family member that the woman who almost drowned was "over reacting." It is understandable that they are not liable since waivers were signed but carrying on as if nothing is happening and calling a customer "over reacting" when she is gasping for air and coughing up water is atrocious behavior. Eventually a medic was called and came. The woman was stabilized. During this time, two employees snickered from the side, pointing and laughing at the family. When a young female relative saw this, she made a lewd gesture to the employees to which the employees began to cat call her. Aside from the horrible behavior from the employees, there seems to be a lack of training all around. The woman who nearly drowned did not have her life vest properly attached. Although the company is not liable for what happens on the water, they are liable for the proper use of their safety equipment and in making sure customers are using their equipment properly, especially when using safety equipment, (just as cast members at Disneyland are responsible for making sure seatbelts are fastened.) Employees at Pokonobe Resort should also all be properly trained in emergency situations such as calling 911 immediately and they should all be trained in CPR. A conversation was had after the woman was safe and one of the employees admitted to not feeling he was properly trained on how to handle this situation. Both from the emotional and safety procedures. I hope that the employees can learn from this situation and I hope that the company can undergo proper training so they are prepared to handle any future accidents and prevent a major injury or even death. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE. NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. 1) They DO NOT sanitize the life vests. DURING PANDEMIC.They are super dirty, too. They tell you...go around the side, open the shed and grab your vest. And after you use them, you hang them back up yourself. Talk about health risk!!! 2) Young guy working the register was an asshole. I walked in the day of our rental. He said "where's your boat slip?" I told him I received an information sheet that showed topography, our boat name and time reserved, nothing more. He rudely said "you got one; we ALWAYS give everyone boat slips." He was the one who helped me the day prior and he didn't provide it; some older man was interrupting him while he was ringing me up and checking out so it's understandable but don't be rude. 3) Pontoon boats are OLD. OLD. For the price, what a disappointment. I've rented from Lake Mary's General Store across the way and had a nice experience. I've rented from a lot of places outside of Mammoth and had great experiences, but one star here. read more

Oh man, this place had such an off vibe. The person working there was rude. I had a feeling he would be from all the reviews that I've read, so I went in expecting him to be. I asked for 4 SUP, and he just replied, "Nope, try the Lake Mary Marina" rudely. No explanation. I didn't question it, because I just though, it's not worth asking why. We went on the off chance that maybe the rude guy wouldn't be there, or that maybe he was having an off day. Oh well. Now I know to never go there. I should've known better. Honestly, just go to Lake Mary Marina a little south of the lake. There are more rentals available, and we didn't have a problem with the people working there. Or go to Lake Convict, much nicer lake and they have rentals there too. read more

Rented a motorboat here for an hour for $20. Really good price here in mammoth. You can also rent other things here as well. The staff is really personable and friendly. They showed us how to use the boat and explained all the places we couldn't go since there is a drought going on here. The shops here is pretty small, but some cute souvenirs of you want any. They have some snacks too, but if you're staying out on the lake just go to vons and grab some food. The lake is so beautiful and peaceful. The surroundings are just amazing, even the drive here is amazing. Ps: black lab half Great Dane named Oso is so adorable. I'd come back just because he's a cutie. 5/5 read more

Yuck! Where to begin. I headed up this weekend and thought I'd have a nice time on the lake. The other marina was closed so it was fairly quiet. There were a pretty good amount of people but they didn't have many boats. I tried to call but wasn't have to get through to anyone so I went in. First, some of the staff weren't wearing masks and the boats didn't seem very clean at all. Second, it rained really, really badly but they didn't offer any refunds. No refunds despite the weather? It was not a fun time. I wouldn't recommend it. They didn't really enforce social distancing or mask wearing (or maybe it was too hard to get everyone to comply? You know how people are). I'm sorry to give anyone a one star review, but no refunds and no exceptions? read more

I LOVE this place!! We launch our boat here twice a year for a week at a time, the workers there are amazing!! The main guy he's awesome, idk his name but he owns Oso the lab/mastiff dog. He's great! He makes you feel like family, he tells you the good spots, and his dog is a doll!!! This is a family place we have been coming here for years and will continue doing so. Been trying to reserve a pontoon for the longest time over the phone and luckily I decided to walk in on a Monday and was able to book one for the whole day on Friday. Couldn't decide which set of hours to rent the boat for but glad we made it a whole day. The guys running the place were super friendly and helpful. We got to meet their doggie Owen. Super adorable! So on Friday we headed out at 11am and enjoyed lunch on the pontoon. Beautiful scenic view to have our meal. We docked the boat at 2pm and was able to climb back on at 5:30 to have dinner on the water. By 6pm it's a different feel on Lake Mary. Hardly anyone around, and it wasn't windy as we thought it would be. The calm beautiful water with the sun near setting made it a perfect evening. Thank you Pokonobe for a wonderful day on the lake, including the awesome gal helping us set off at the beginning. read more

The manager's dog was trying to hump my dog, and several others, while we were at the beach today. We had rented two paddle boards. My dog was minding his own business and being harassed by this black dog. When I asked the dog owner to please deal with his dog, he told me that I was on private property and I should put my dog on a leash. The reality, if your dog is not being controlled... Then it is your job to control it. If you own a business, you are in the customer service business. Pretty sad, pretty rude, pretty disappointing. read more

This is a shady operation. DO NOT RENT A PONTOON unless you are there in person! We reserved a 10 person pontoon over a month in advance via website and credit card. The morning of the event we got a call from the marina saying they double booked so we could not have the pontoon but another smaller pontoon was available later in the afternoon. The smaller boat did not accommodate the number of people in our party so two of our family had to sit on the shore until we periodically exchanged people aboard. Plus there was hardly any shade cover which we needed on the original boat we reserved. Of course the time change really messed up our planned day. I understand mess ups but the manager had a total attitude and said essentially take it or leave it with a refund. He was really a jerk. Then he tried to charge us $35 more than the website listed. When we pointed that out he was irritated so we let it go since this was a family event and did not want his negatively. He even insulted me. I would try Gull Lake as we have been renting there for years without harassment. read more

We came in early and were helped immediately since there were only a couple of people. We rented a tatem kayak for an hour with no problems. They even allowed us an extra 15 minutes at no additional cost. The person that helped us into and off the kayak was very friendly as well as their dog. Would come again. read more

Very rude treatment. It seemed like they didn't want out business at all. We were trying to make reservations for the next day, but since we were with our kids, we had questions regarding the weather condition. We were unable to take the kayaks we had reserved the day before at a different lake because it got really windy. We asked if it got windy there in the afternoon and he said he didn't pay attention to the weather. He was there just to take our money and put our name on the book. Then he said that if it got windy and we were not able to take the kayak on the lake, that he would not refund our money. He said that closing the book on our face and saying that if we were not sure to just come back tomorrow and see what they had available. He also said he had nothing available for today but there were several kayaks outside. My husband and I were just shocked. I can't believe that someone working in the tourism business has such horrible customer service. Never going back and will let all my friends who come to Mammoth often know how horrible they are. read more

Have spent the week in Mammoth Lakes and having a wonderful time. First time here. All the people have been great, every experience... except this morning at the Pokonobe marina. I had tried to rent a couple kayaks with my family a couple days ago at a different place, much better turns out - Convict Lake, highly recommend, friendly staff, cheaper prices, people don't treat you like garbage. Anyway, made a reservation, but the weather didn't work out there. So went to Lake Mary this morning and went to Pokonobe marina. Went in with the idea of renting 2 tandem kayaks or one tandem, one single, two singles, something. While I was parking the car, my wife went in. When I got in she was waiting in line. She told me they didn't have anything. It was confusing because she was waiting in line. When I got there, an employee - who should be fired - called us up. I said so, you don't have anything? And he aggressively replied "If I said we don't have anything, we don't have anything!" I was like wtf? Do you want our business? How is that an appropriate response in any business? I wanted clarification on what dude meant. I could clearly see they did have stuff - there was a pile of kayaks next to the place not in the water. Maybe I could have got a SUP or a boat or something. We were there to spend money and enjoy the lake and we got to talk to some guy, probably drunk or high or his girlfriend/boyfriend broke up with him or some combination of those things. My wife proceeded to try to figure out a plan with this guy. And found a reservation for a tandem kayak the next day, but later in the afternoon. So she asked how the weather generally was, if it was windy or what. Guy says "I don't notice the weather, I'm just here to take your money and write your name in this book." Super disrespectful and dickish. In front of our two young girls. Then proceeded to inform us that, if the weather was bad we would lose our money, no refunds, slammed his reservation book shut and that was it. So, we left. Went back to Convict Lake and got some kayaks for 1/2 the price with an amazing view in a bigger lake, with a crew of people that went out of their way to make sure each part of our experience was perfect. The way I was treated from an employee named Jason today was simply unacceptable and I believe he was DRUNK. I was with my 11 year old son and this was my first time trying to rent a boat. I asked some very basic questions about the different "stuff" and Jason in a rude tone said "we have lots of STUFF!". He then said they had a triple kayak and I told him I assume that's for three people. He then put his fingers toward my face and said "uno, dos, tres" in a counting motion. I left and after I was getting in the car I saw him walk out toward a white trailer parked near the shop with a beer in his hand and then walk in the trailer. Keep in mind this was in front of an eleven year old child. His attitude is he doesn't want to work there, being drunk and belligerent simply isn't acceptable and something the business bureau should look into. read more

They do take walk-ins, but FYI the pontoon boats are especially popular so best to reserve online if you want one. Everything there at the store/rental place is great, from the snacks and items they offer in the store to the awesome dog who helps with the greeting duties. If you want to rent a boat, just reserve in advance so you're not disappointed! We watched either Shane or Johnny help show renters how to handle a boat, untie from the dock, etc., and even gave guidance on the good places to go and avoid around the lake. Thanks again, guys! Horrible customer service, worst I have seen in all my life. I called in to see how the place works with times and pricing. So the manager told me that when you come in give me your name now I'll give you guys a group discount because you guys are a very big group I said great. We came in the following day he was working and he said there was never a call that day. I showed him my call history he said I'm sorry that must have not been us or some crap he made up. I said you said yesterday you could give us a nice group rate he said I really did not say anything like that... So I said well what are the rates anyways it's fine the fact you said it and than you are lying now is okay. So than a cousin comes in and says so what's the group rate he's giving us he didn't know cause he just walked in but he explains it to him. And he said okay whatever. So than our grandpa walks in and says ok what's the so special rate you guys were talking about last night than the guy says I'm sorry guys but I'm gonna have to ask you to leave. I said why? He said well you guys are making up these things. And this is not good for us.. I said okay and then our special Ed cousin was in there looking at the candy the whole time it's obvious he's special Ed he says can I buy this candy? He pulls out his $10 and the manager says no I cannot sell this to you. And than he starts to cry and walk out and than we overheard him saying this idiot trying to buy candy from us. We camp nearby every year and the staff at Pokonobe is second to none. They are VERY helpful with regards to the latest fishing reports and tips. Clean boat rentals at a reasonable price. We stayed at Lake Mary Campground, so convenience wise the Marina was great. We could walk from the campground to the marina. 3 of us rented a tandem kayak and a SUP. Prices were really high for low quality products. Our last full day we reserved the kayak and SUP but by the time our reservation came it was a full out thunder storm. We were aware of the no refund policy, but considering the storm we thought they'd be open to work with us. The best they could do was move our paddle time to 7am the next morning since we had to leave town by 8am. They told us to come early to ensure we got the boards and kayaks. We could there 6:45 but didn't get on the water until 7:30. The gentleman was kind and apologized for the wait and thanked us for our patience, but we felt ripped off only getting 30 minutes on the water. Overall, it is a convenient location on a gorgeous lake, but we probably wouldn't rent again. read more

This little store and marina on Lake Mary has a gorgeous location, and it is the nearest place to buy essentials if you are staying at Lake Mary Campground next door. The stock seemed to be very low, though, with few items spread out over lots of empty shelf space. Sure, if you are just looking for a bag of ice or a bottle of propane, you'll be fine, but anything more than that, and there isn't much to choose from. Also, the parking lot is very rough, so be careful if pulling in here with a low-clearance vehicle. read more
