No noise curfew means it's the one place you can truly have a late-night party 3. They have awesome people with very few rules (no fires, respect max # campers allowed) - other than that, they let you manifest your dream! 4. Massive granite hottub and swimming lake are amazing 5. You can have people camp or glamp on site (we hired their tents and supplemented with Anywhere Outpost - wonderful!) 6. They have some infrastructure but you can bring in your own booze, rentals, catering, etc. - so you can curate your dream wedding (for food hire Blend or Camber Events! for drinks hire Pizen! for wedding planner hire Jenn Robirds Events!) 7. It's absolutely stunning. The natural granite, pines, and beautiful flowers everywhere. It's amazing!! You can have any kind of wedding here - a DIY small wedding, big elevated elegant wedding (like we did), something simple, something over-the-top. It's all possible! read more

June 27, 2023: Tuesday, I attended a wedding here; it's FIFTEEN-MILES inside rough, rugged, BLM LAND terrain! It took almost ONE HOUR from leaving Highway 88 in order, arriving at The Hideout Annex where I attended the wedding venue! Will you please carefully study my photos and will you please notice the GARMIN GPS time stamp for the photos, too? This is no exaggeration . . . Seriously--The Hideout is in the middle of CA BLM TERRITORY, i.e., WILDERNESS REGION! My photos will make you pause in utter silence due to the fact the entire area is just so utterly remote. More importantly, make sure you do NOT drive a vehicle with a low, wheel base clearance such as a sports car or a sedan; for your safety, drive an all-wheel drive SUV, dually truck, i.e. any 4-Wheel Drive vehicle is best. In addition, this entire region's location is extreme wilderness equating, survival terrain. Never come here ill-prepared despite, weddings venues are conducted here, i.e., cold temperatures shifts drop erratically here--hot around 75° F during the day, temperatures drop to 49°F around 6:30 PM--please bring a down jacket, warm pants, socks, boots, hat, gloves, down sleeping bag/blankets, pillow, medicines, a change of clothes, toiletries, fire starters, wood, food, H2O: Everything you'd think bringing on a wilderness camping trip-PACK INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE especially, if you get too inebriated to drive, you might as well sleep off your alcohol party binge without freezing, eh? Plus, whatever supplies you bring in, you must consciously pack out - - - being mindful "wild things" live everywhere around The Hideout . . . So NEVER keep food or toiletries inside your vehicle--because you're just asking for a "wild thing" to cause dangerous drama in your life when you're WAAAAY too inebriated dealing with the dangerous toothy thang, i.e., you just won't survive THAT attack! A lot of parents I noticed were irresponsibly allowing their children running loose, frolicking through the fields/meadows unattended, and unsupervised while attending the wedding at The Hideout: It's most important not allowing children running freely, parents must maintain possessing absolutely heightened, cognitive awareness of sights and sounds 24/7, follow rules such as putting food in bear containers, keeping bear spray in possession 24/7, making sure children don't drop food anywhere, keeping children sticking by their sides without fail, and never allow children run freely through the meadows where rattlesnakes and large animals are simply camouflaged, unnoticeable, and undetected. Sadly, the four restrooms are too far away from The Hideout Annex which is across a huge field causing the children striking out on their own accord--independently scurrying reaching the restrooms in time without having "an accident" where unfortunately, their parents lose their watchful eyes on their children! Therefore, I don't recommend children under ten-years old should attend wedding venues at The Hideout because The Hideout's wedding location is just too remote . . . The Hideout is a gorgeous, wedding venue; however, I just wouldn't recommend young children accompany their parents here. There are too many possibilities for young children being injured or wind up missing due to the area being too vast and too remote; I personally just want immediately removing the odd equation and eliminating the happenstance beforehand-period. I would only consider The Hideout as an adult wedding venue worth attending; however, I definitely would refrain having the children in tow, i.e., hire an overnight babysitter/Nanny for attending a wedding at The Hideout. read more

Truly one of the most beautiful and unique wedding venues ever! Our wedding was an absolute dream. The Hideout is gorgeous and perfect for the outdoor couple. The team at the Hideout is super communicative and proactive with making your wedding experience smooth and stress free. We were able to fully customize everything about our wedding (decorations, schedule, campers, vendors, etc). Even though we had several conversations about where we'd like our Rehearsal Dinner, Ceremony and Reception area, Mother Nature had other plans. We had rain, hail and a brief fire (caused by a lightning bolt striking a tree), and everything about our wedding was still absolutely perfect. The Hideout worked to make our wedding so beautiful and fun! I can't speak enough about how stunning the property is. The cabin, the lake, the meadows, the hiking trails, the jacuzzi - all of it is incredible. The Hideout checks all the boxes. From wonderful accommodations to great staff. The views there are absolutely spectacular, we could not ask for a better back drop to day our "I do's" and celebrate with our friends and family. We were one of the events that unfortunately were postponed due to the Caldor Fire. The Hideout was able to get us on the books for the next year and everything was perfect. Josh, Tom, BJ - thank you for everything. You guys are stellar people and we absolutely appreciate everything. And DON'T JUMP OFF THE DOCK!!! My husband made the decision to jump off the dock (even with clearly posted signage saying swim at your own risk) and ended up breaking his leg the day *after* our ceremony, THANK GOD. My (now) husband and I held our wedding at the HideOut in October of 2020. We took advantage of the weekday package and couldn't be happier with our choice. The venue is hands down the most gorgeous we had ever seen. We spent a lot of time shopping around for a place to get married near Tahoe and this one takes the cake. It blew us away when we visited in 2019 for the Open House. The main lodge is exceptional, so much space and cozy, beautifully decorated rooms. The deck is absolutely priceless and don't get us started on the 30 person jacuzzi! The saloon was also very nice and accommodated many of our guests. The scenery is something out of a fairy tale. The reception hall/barn was huge, well lit, warm, and surpassed our wants and needs. The Hoovers are exceptional people, Josh especially. He went above and beyond for us our entire stay and exceeded our expectations. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, picturesque wedding. I would recommend this venue to anyone who is looking to getting married in a beautiful, outdoor, secluded location. We love this venue more than words can describe. We had our wedding in early June 2022 at the Hideout and we can say without a doubt that it was the best decision we made in our planning process. We booked the venue sight unseen after looking at photographs as we had gotten engaged close by while climbing. We wanted to share the area and landscape with our family and friends and the Hieout did not dissapoint. The whole weekend was incredible for so many reasons, but by and large due to the hard work and kindness of the family that runs and owns the Hideout. BJ, Tom and their son Josh are so communicative, helpful and just good people. They were great in the planning process (we used most of their recommended vendors) and when we arrived could not feel more taken care of throughout the whole weekend. Josh helps to plan out all of the settings: table, chairs, ceremony when you arrive and then magically makes everything happen smoothly. BJ had planted flowers everywhere so that in addition to the tremendous wildflowers blooming between the rocks the ceremony and reception area is full of flowers. Our whole family stayed in the lodge and saloon and it was so fun to make dinner with them on Thursday before everyone arrived and then have such an extraordinary place to get ready and spend time. Most of our friends camped on site and it was wonderful to be surrounded by friends and go hiking in the mountains and canoe on the lake the morning of our wedding. We had a field day the morning of our wedding and utilized the included coffee cart which was wonderful. The barn was an incredible space and everyone was astounded by the venue. While we had to change some of our plans because it was quite cold, Josh made everything seamless and had bonfires going for our rehearsal, cocktail hour and reception. We danced in the barn and then everyone went up to the hot tub at midnight for an incredible night under the stars. We truly could not imagine a better place to celebrate our marriage. read more

The Hideout is so beautiful. We got married their late June 2022. I loved renting it out for more than a day. We had an informal party the night before with people in the giant hot tub, taking the boats out for a ride on the lake, and playing pool in the Saloon. The venue was absolutely beautiful. Between the trees, the wildflowers, the lake, the giant arch, and the rustic barn, it was so easy to find a good photo opportunity. Gosh, what can I say about The Hideout that hasn't already been said? This was the most amazing wedding venue that my husband and I could have asked for. We saw it on their website and booked their last available wedding weekend for 2017 sight unseen! I managed to see the location under 20 feet of snow in February and I was still in love. When I got to see it in person for their open house in July, I was IN LOVE. If you like open air, pine trees, huge granite boulders, log cabins, and antique old world charm - this place is for you. Plus if you like having venue owners who really care about their clients and are on site for any issue during your stay - you'll love The Hideout. Here's just a few tidbits: - 40 person granite hot tub - stocked lake for fishing and canoeing - 5 bedroom log cabin with individual bathrooms and fireplaces in every room - Dine in kitchen - Huge dining table - Amazing bridal/master suite with great views - Separate saloon with wifi - Camping onsite with heated showers! Just got back from our magical wedding weekend! I literally got chills coming over the hill to our special oasis. Our immediately family stayed in the main lodge, we had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy it all, some in the hot tub, some hiking to the swimming holes, shooting guns, and making memories for a lifetime. OUR DREAM WEDDING VENUE! BJ, Tom, Josh and the rest of The HideOut team made our wedding celebration the ultimate fairy tale. When my husband and I were searching for wedding venues we happen to stumble upon The HideOut just as a referral from a friend. We were looking for something in the South Lake Tahoe area and we last minute decided to check out the property on our way out of town. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY. From the journey through the woods, over Pucker Butt Hill, it opens up to this incredible clearing that it the oasis of The HideOut. It felt like an adventurer's adult Disneyland. After exploring the property, we knew in our hearts that our wedding had to be here. We decided to have a Tuesday wedding, and it worked out great for us! It was in our budget and our guests (mostly traveling from out of state and southern Cali) were able to make a longer vacation out of the trip by exploring the rest of the Kirkwood and Lake Tahoe area the weekend prior to the wedding. The whole HideOut family had the best vibes from the very beginning. They are real, down to earth, personable people that truly love what they do, and will do everything in their power to make sure you are as happy and satisfied with the whole process as possible. Having a wedding at The HideOut gives you the freedom to create exactly what you envision for your wedding day. It creates an environment where you are able to be surrounded by your closest family and friends without distractions from whatever is going outside. It is the ultimate LIVE IN THE MOMENT venue that you could ever choose. The HideOut is magical!! We got married there last month (July 2016) and couldn't be happier. We loved the HideOut so much, in fact, that we postponed our planned wedding date by almost a year so we could do it at the HideOut - SO worth it!! It's stunningly beautiful. If you love the Sierras, like my husband and I, the HideOut is an amazing place (the best place? probably). Our guests were all blown away, and so were we every time we visited. Not only is the setting incredible (a bowl surrounded by granite by a lake), but what the Hoovers (the owners) have built is gorgeous as well.... I mean... you can jump off the porch into the lake! There is a huge hot tub built into the rock with a view! The lodge is built of beautiful, impossibly large tree trunks! It will take your breath away. And I haven't even started talking about the wildflowers blooming everywhere... the sunset light on the rocks... the stream-side hikes... the amazing kitchen...! The Hoovers (the owners) are so kind and delightful to work with. They were responsive and thoughtful in the planning process, and were extremely helpful and fun during the wedding weekend! They were always able to answer questions and help out. It is clear they are just very good people. Look at the pictures, and head out and visit and chat with the Hoovers. It will exceed your expectations!! I hope someone else I know gets married up there so I can go back soon. read more

I went to a wedding here last weekend and it is a beautiful location. It really is a gorgeous setting. However, I wasn't prepared for it to be quite so... rustic. We turn off the highway and immediately see a huge, plywood spray painted sign that says "4 WHEEL DRIVE ONLY." Ummm, didn't know that! Neither did the Prius in front of us. Driving along the "driveway" is like driving in a Land Rover commercial. We're talking unpaved, ungraveled, unleveled, praying you don't meet someone coming the other direction one lane, rocky mountain terrain here. We're talking there are 3 small ponds you have no choice but to drive through, yes, I do mean the kind where water splashes up past your car windows. (The Prius came to a stop and shut down in the pond.) Then, finally, when you think "surely the end is near," you reach the one section of paved road where the hill is so steep, it puts every hill in San Francisco to shame. So, are we there yet? Nope! We have to drive through another small pond to park our car... in the grassy meadow. As soon as my feet touched the ground, I was seriously wishing I'd worn hiking boots, instead of heels. Is there a bridge across the parking meadow? You know, one of those stable things with rails for you to hold onto? Nope. They do have some wooden planks for you to walk across. Is there some sort of trail, or path cleared to the ceremony area? Not really. Do yourself a favor ladies, do not wear open-toed shoes. Definitely do not wear stilettos, as you will be sinking into the ground with each step. Even if you are wearing flat sandals, your feet will be touching the ground, and they will get dirty. Here are three more hot tips I wish I'd known in advance. 1) Unless you want to be in the sun, bring your own parasol or umbrella. There is no place to sit in the shade. 2) Bring bug spray. In addition to fighting mosquitoes, there were bugs on the log benches that were biting people, including myself. 3) Bring a flashlight. If you wait until dark to get back to your car... good luck not spraining your ankle in the process. 4) Time your departure with another vehicle. You will not have cell phone reception. If your car gets stuck, and there is not another car, you will have to make your way back to the cabin to get help. Ultimately, it was a beautiful location, but if they're not going to pave the driveway, they should put a warning on their website. read more

WOW!!! Still can't believe my husband and I got to spend the weekend and get married with all our loved ones at the Hideout. Our families from other states got to meet and spend quality time together throughout the weekend. Besides the incredible views, the Hideout is peaceful and relaxing. We choose the hideout for those reasons and because we wanted to decorate and execute our wedding with the help of friends. We knew it would take awhile and the Hideout has limited restrictions. We started set up when we got there on Thursday and finish led Friday. Thanks to the amazing Hideout staff (who treat you like family), we were able to relax and enjoy our loved ones and everything the Hideout has to offer. The out of this world views, the meteor shower in the hot tub was unexplainable, swimming in the lake, the hiking, shooting guns, taking a bath in the copper tub, camping, rving, bbqing, and being able to have our dog there meant the world to us. After discovering the HideOut on the Bachelor (I swear I was only watching because it was the Tahoe-themed episode!), my fiance and I immediately looked at each other and knew that was our dream spot. Nevertheless, I went on Yelp to see what others had said about the venue. The common theme that emerged was "magical," whether the review was from the bride, parents or guests. They're totally right. It's a magical setting and absolutely perfect for an outdoor/wilderness-themed wedding. Tom and BJ Hoover (along with their sons) are truly special people who are not only warm and opening, but genuinely want to make sure your wedding is as special as possible. Their property is breathtaking, and all their little customizations, along with a variety of activated, well-decorated spaces, make this an ideal venue for a wedding. My Wife and I got married at The Hideout two weeks ago. This locations is absolutely unbelievable. The scenery is breath taking, my favorite part was looking at the stars, shooting stars, and satellites while soaking in the hot tub. All of the buildings are clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The owners were around to give us advise and help where they could. The shuttle service, an outside vendor from The Hideout, was a great touch for our guests. This is a rural location, but it didn't bother any of our guests as they were all totally taken away by the location. Our guests didn't stop complimenting the location and our ceremony all night. As a matter of fact, friends are still talking about the wedding to this day! One of the best parts about the location was the ability to stay there for 5 days and party as long and late as we could. The catch and release fishing on the pond was lots of fun, and there was plenty of room for activities like Frisbee golf, Volleyball, paddling, and hiking. If you aren't scared of a little adventure, this is the best place in California to get hitched! read more

My wife and I wanted an opportunity for our friends and family to spend genuine time together and truly get to know one another and The HideOut delivered all that and more. Equally as important as the place are the owners- BJ and Tom (and family). These are some of the most genuine and sweet people you will ever meet. They are truly talented, thoughtful, and just plain good people. Whenever it seemed we needed something Tom or BJ would magically appear on their 4 wheeler to check in on us and lend a hand. The accommodations are like no where you have ever stayed...I guarantee it. The lodges were carefully crafted and designed by the owners themselves and is the perfect combination of wilderness and luxury. All bedrooms and bathrooms were sparkling clean and there is endless amount of storage for food and beverage. Our wedding was perfect. The HideOut was perfect. And my wife and I truly believe if you are considering visiting that you go. The experience must be had. We are looking forward to doing a reunion in the winter one year. My son and his bride wanted to have their wedding at this venue, after several trips to Northern California and meeting Tom & BJ (the owners), the date was set and we looked forward to the big day. So, this past Labor Day weekend we celebrated the big event. Below are my impressions of both the venue and the owners. First off, the venue. What a magical place! It is a bit of work to get there, and don't even think you car will remain clean, it won't. But, it is so worth the mile and half on a dirt road, and the challenge of "Pucker Butt Hill". You will be transported to such a beautiful place and it is so secluded. The building have been built with such care and craftsmanship, and the setting is straight out of a fairy tale book. We (my wife and I and a few other folks) stayed at "The Lookout", which is a separate house, from the main compound, and well worth the extra cash. Now the owners, Tom & BJ, what a lovely couple, and their kids of course all help to run this place. I can't say enough about their hospitality and generosity, they are the definition of graciousness. They were so helpful during the planning stages, and during the event, they went out of their way to make sure that everyone was welcomed and taken care of. Not a moment went by that one of them appeared at the very moment you needed them, but were invisible when you didn't need them, just amazing ability to predict when they were needed, but to not be underfoot when their help was not required. This place is so wonderful, and we enjoyed our stay tremendously. We are already talking about planning a trip and stay for a possible family reunion. We took a big snow tractor in the dead of winter to view the site (you cannot drive to the venue in the winter). As soon as we got over the hill, my now husband and I looked at each other and said this is it. Tom and Bj are so nice! They are down to earth, friendly, and extremely helpful! We also worked with Dusty throughout our wedding weekend, he is so nice and always willing to help! The cabin is well taken care of and is beautiful.The hot tub and the lake are unreal. Life has taken a few unpredicted twists and turns with our family's health since we got hitched in Sept. We are now finally finding a minute to sit down and write up all the reviews. Has it already been almost 10 months since our big day!? Wow, time goes by in a blink of an eye! Yes, this is a long overdue, but much needed and well deserved review. Now, where do I even begin? My husband is from New Zealand and I grew up down the road from The HideOut. We met while I was on a working visa in Australia and we decided to move back to CA. Since this would be an international wedding, with guests coming from 3 different US States and 5 different countries, having accommodation on the same property as our ceremony and reception was what we were looking for. Then we found The HideOut. WOW! What a piece of heaven. The venue speaks for itself and once you see it, you will fall in love. My husband and I are huge outdoor enthusiasts and were looking for a venue that really spoke to us. We knew we wanted to exchange our vows in the very place we fell in love....the great outdoors. Thus, not only did The HideOut fit our personalities to a T, but we were able to rent the WHOLE property for a few days allowing us to have quality time with all of our guests in one of the most beautiful and secluded places. Almost 10 months later and we are still getting compliments on how stunning our wedding was. We were even lucky enough to have one of the most spectacular sunsets on our special day. Words can not express the beauty of this venue and pictures, as gorgeous as they are, do not do it justice. You have to see it with your own eyes to truly appreciate the serenity The HideOut exudes. We can not thank the Hoover's enough for going above and beyond to make our wedding perfect and for being by our sides every step of the way, helping and guiding us before, during and after the wedding. If I could give 10 stars, I would! This was the first and only wedding venue we looked at & within 5 min (even in 5 ft of snow), we knew this was the place for us. This venue is top notch & worth every penny, presuming you have the money to spend. You catch your first glimpse of the main lodge and with a granite hot tub that fits 40 people overlooking a small lake. As you approach the venue at the end of a 2 mile dirt road. The owners BJ & Tom are extremely accommodating & ensure that your wedding weekend is flawless. They offer two different rental packages, a 5 day weekend rental, from Thursday at 3pm thru Monday at 11am or a 3 day - midweek rental, which runs from Monday at 3pm thru Thursday at 11am. The rental includes lodging for 20 people & allows 30 people to camp on the grounds. You can also rent The Lookout, which is an additional house on the property for an additional cost and it is perfect for the parents of the bride and/or groom. Additional hotel accommodations are provided by Kirkwood Resorts & Pyramid Peeks, both which offer a 20% discount to guests & are extremely helpful thru the planning process. You can also camp at Silver Lake, Plasse Resort & a few other locations, all within a 30 minute drive. For an additional fee, they provide a shuttle services from the hotels to the venue. They rent a 14 person mini van from enterprise and shuttle guests in and out per your request. These are the largest vehicles that can access the venue, as there is a steep hill that larger vehicles can not climb, so depending on the number of guests you have, you will most likely need to hire two drivers and rent two vehicles to get the guests to the venue. Since the venue has no curfew, we decided to have a late night DJ play after the reception, which I would not necessarily recommend, as the hot tub that fits 40 people is a perfect place for the late night partiers to keep at it. We had one shuttle stop around midnight and the other stayed until 3 am to get the stragglers back to the hotel. The venue provides a beautiful outdoor ceremony area, a large barn for the reception area and a rustic saloon that has a pool & foosball table. Outside of the venue itself, they provide minimal add-ons such as some basics like tables, chairs, a small PA system. This is where it can get pretty pricey...You are responsible for providing all decorations, renting all catering equipment (chaffing dishes, plates, utensils, linens, napkins, ect.)& bar supplies (cups, wine glasses), buying all beer, wine, liquor, mixers, garnishes & LOTS OF ice. We choose the 5 day rental, which cost us $18,000 ($2000 security deposit), but I believe the price has increased significantly since we reserved our wedding 2 years ago. (see website). When considering this price, keep in mind that you are not getting many of the features that would come with your average venue and the costs of renting all the catering & bar equipment can add up. This is offset, however, by the savings you receive by being able to provide your own alcohol instead of having to pay a high per guest price. We choose to buy our alcohol from Reno because you can return unopened bottles (which is illegal in CA). In addition, since you have the venue for 5 days, I recommend taking advantage of the whole grounds and having the rehearsal dinner & brunch at the venue as well. We did a casual rehearsal dinner in the saloon and had brunch in the main lodge, with the band from the night before playing an acoustic set in the living room. Be prepared to spend a minimum of $50K for a wedding at The Hideout, and depending on the number of guests and bells and whistles you desire, it can easily cost between $70-$80K. Lay your budget out ahead of time and prepare yourself for all the additional costs that come with having your wedding in the middle of no where. Vendors tend to want a little more for travel expenses. I highly recommend having a wedding planner at this venue and a team of reliable and hardworking friends/family to assist with the set up and tear down of the venue, as it is all your responsibility to turn your vision into a reality. All in all, this place was magnificent. Every guest told me that it was by far the best wedding they had ever been to, which brought me joy after spending months planning. If you want a fairy tale, rustic wedding, look no further! You will be impressed! read more

I don't think anyone really knows what to expect when arriving at this secluded remote location cleverly called, "The HideOut". Well let me tell you, it's amazing! Forget the fact that yes, it may be difficult to find and that you will have to drive through some steep off road trails, but live a little folks! My reason for coming here was to attend my best friend's wedding. In advance along with her wedding group discount, I made my reservations to stay at the nearest recommended lodge at Kirkwood Meadows. The HideOut was only 15-20 minutes away from where my hub and I were staying so that was not a problem at all. Finding the entrance was no issue as there were big signs directing us that we were headed in the right direction. Upon entering, you really are driving through the wilderness by following along on one dirt trail that will take you in and out. Signs will tell you every so often that you have to keep going reassuring you that you're on the right path. On a nice clear sunny day, there wouldn't be a worry on your mind, but if it's snowing, it will be difficult if your car does not have 4-wheel/All wheel drive. Luckily for us, we had that as we had to battle some fresh snow and 1 steep hill that would scare you, but really I found it quite entertaining and more of an adventure than anything really. This location is seriously breathtaking. Privately owned, I was truly amazed at how beautiful and serene this place was. There was a saloon where there is a bar along with a pool table, dart board and other games to keep your guests entertained during cocktail hour. Since this wedding ceremony was originally supposed to be held outside, unfortunately snow had started to fall changing these plans placing the ceremony inside the main lodge where the lake stood as the background. All the folks who made this arrangement happen definitely did an awesome job because you could not tell that there were any issues. The ceremony turned out even more beautiful inside as you can definitely feel the raw emotions of happiness coming from every single person that filled that room. Snow falling made this day truly magical for all the guests as well as for the newlyweds. The reception was also held in the 7+ bedroom lodge that was able to fit about 10 tables with 10 chairs all around. 5 downstairs and 5 upstairs and boy was the view amazing! The kitchen is large and has plenty of space for all your cooking/catering needs. Also, there is another lodge on the property called "The LookOut" where I was aware that other guests were staying. There are plenty of things to do on this majestic property as there is no curfew and you are free to roam the 40acres! Just don't get lost! When leaving the property, especially in the evening, my advice would be to follow someone out. I would suggest renting/driving an SUV with all wheel drive to this location because you really don't want to risk getting stuck or slipping on that one steep hill that would have you shi**ing bricks if you aren't prepared. Really, it's not as bad as many think. Just think of it as an adventure! Come here with an open mind and soak it all in! read more

Before writing this review I scanned a couple of the existing ones, to make sure I didn't say too many redundant things. So much for that idea; there are only so many superlatives in the English language. My wife and I got married at the Hideout (and the Lookout) in the summer of '14. There is literally no place else on Earth I would have rather had our wedding. From the beauty of the natural setting to the cozy, quaint, quality of the lodging in all of the homes, to the camping and hiking and lake and hot tub, to Tom, B.J., Dusty and Josh and all their help and hospitality, it was an unforgettable five day weekend. Our guests are still gushing over the location, as are all of our vendors. (It was a photographer's dream site, in particular.) Tom and B.J. provided the perfect amount of availability and service, somehow always being there when we needed anything, while being invisible enough that we never felt crowded. Their knowledge of the premises, coupled with their experience with large events (which never came off as pushy or "you should do it this way" by the way) made them an indispensable resource. Add to those qualities their warm-hearted approach and helpfulness, and you've got two terrific hosts. When we first saw the photos of their incredible home (which don't even do it justice, by the way) we wished they would adopt us. After spending five days with them and having them share in our wedding weekend, we wish we could adopt them. :) If you have two places on the planet to consider for your wedding, I recommend you forget about the other one and get married at the Hideout! read more

My daughter and (now) son-in-law got married here Sept. 10, 2016. It was absolutely the most beautiful venue. We had fantastic weather. Tom, Bj and Dusty were the best. Before hand they answered all our questions and were so helpful the entire time we were there, 4 glorious days. Definitely go to their open house and check out the venders. I highly recommend some of the ones they have on their list. They are well versed in the Hideout's needs and some of them work together. For instance Nick, Mother Lode catering will contact Party Smart Rental company if, for i.e.. he has a need for extra platters. Cannot say enough wonderful things about the Hideout!!!! read more

This place was fantastic. We went for our friend's wedding and it was great. Our 18 month old son loved running around, hiking, and exploring. The scenery was stunning and the people that worked there were beyond helpful. The only problem was trying to get up puckerbutt hill (yes, that's what it's actually called). read more
