Good food, clean interior and nice service. Ingredients were all fresh and tasted great, pretty generous with meat portion and prices are not bad. This is a nice casual poke place located in a plaza with plenty of parking.

Small bowl- two proteins and tons of toppings

Super impressed with the amount of fish you actually get with these poke bowls. They are not stingy at all! I got the small which comes with your choice of two proteins. I went with the salmon and the spicy tuna and thought they were both really good. The sauce situation was a little strange to me. I thought my food definitely could've used a little more sauce and it would've been nice if the greens in my bowl had been tossed with it. I love that they give you unlimited toppings. That included the crab salad, the guacamole and the Masago. The restaurant was very clean but strangely empty right at dinner time. We were served with lightning speed and left happy and full.

This place is such a hidden gem! The poke is fresh and good. They are very very generous with the topping (guac included!). The servers are friendly are attentive. I was served very quickly and professionally. No complains at all there. This is a small mom and pop shop and the ambiance fit it as such. The indoor seating is limited but if you're lucky and it's not too busy, you'll get a clean table to enjoy your food. I'd come back again for the mountain of toppings.

Was out in a trip in San Diego and got to try this poke spot! Seems like it's fairly new and first impression was that it's well decorated and the entire setup is really nice and well done! Menu is displayed easily so you can see options plus a long list of toppings you can put.To the main scoop, I rated this a 4 because it's not the best poke spot I've had. Honestly the scallops tasted really dry and old and felt like it ruined most of the flavoring. I also added garlic chips and they were very stale and crunchy. It honestly made it hard to enjoy the entire bowl, wasn't too much flavor either. I just feel like I've tried better poke bowls. I honestly wish I enjoyed it more because service was really great and they were both nice! Hit or miss honestly.

Came with a friend to try this new spot on a weeknight with no wait. I ordered a small bowl (2 scoops of protein) and ended up with so much food! Portions for the toppings were very generous. They use the same bowl for small and medium sizes - the difference is just the number of scoops of protein you get. I would say the amount of protein I got was standard but appreciated their wide assortment of toppings. I was excited to try their sauces, especially the truffle soy and yuzu miso, so I got both on the side but was left a bit disappointed. The truffle soy tasted just like soy sauce to me (barely tastes any truffle) and the yuzu miso was overly thick & sweet for my taste. Overall would come back if I were looking for a fresh poke bowl but would probably try their standard sauces in the future.

I came here after seeing the great rating to satisfy my poke cravings! I was a bit hesitant at first due to the one bad review recently, however I believe the owner has improved the business since then as that was not the experience for me. I had a great experience here, The woman helping me was sweet and explained to me what the poke sauce was and any questions I had. The portions are amazing for the price! I have gotten Poke One in a Half a few times and this is around the same price, except the portion seems much larger! There is also more fish and toppings then I usually get from the other place and even the masago is free of charge. The fish tasted fresh and the toppings were great. The fI love this place and will definitely be baxk again :)

Lots of parking, spacious seating, people eating at tables and studying or working. Efficient staff and lots of menu options. They have poke burritos, poke nachos, poke bowls, signature bowls, and a bunch of milk teas. Chill ambiance.

Food: Not trying to go off on this new poke shop, but this place is not it. AVOID AVOID AVOID! We ordered two small bowls, one with white rice and another half white rice and half spring mix. The rice is not your typical sushi rice, and might even be non-Asian rice; on top of that, it was all mush! Furthermore, over half the bowl was rice, so we felt we were paying $14 before tax for a bowl of low quality and poorly cooked rice. Onto the fish, two scoops for the small bowl (and $2 per extra scoop or for the yellowtail and albacore). We like Poke One Half despite their small scoops of protein but it seems like this place used even smaller scoopers! Can't imagine there was more than 3oz total. Worse is that the fish is not fresh at all! We like Poke Etc because the sauce can mask some of the freshness, but the fish tuna and salmon here cannot be saved. The fishy smell and taste and mushy texture was especially all over the salmon. Sauce: they offer ten sauces, from simple spicy mayo and sesame oil to unique spicy poke and truffle oil. They were inconsistent with the amount, as one bowl with spicy mayo and sesame oil cannot be tasted, whereas the one with truffle oil and spicy poke were drenched (also this latter combination was not good, tasting like chipotle peppers uncommon in poke sauces, but that could be a preference issue). Toppings: a lot of variety (including avocado and imitation krab that were not an upcharge) but not enough given to really taste them, except the garlic chips. Again with the tiny scoops. Minor thing, we asked for furikake on one of the bowls and received tempura flakes lol. Did we come here on an off day? We see the 4.5+ star rating here with double digit reviews and wonder how that's possible after trying the food. If you want something similar, Poke One Half is better and consistent (being a chain as well, more accessible). For fresher fish, Hawaiian Fresh Seafood, Poke Etc, It's Raw Poke to name three. Service: At least the service was fine. The man was welcoming and direct, and a clean food station. Ambiance: Nobody eating or ordering on a Friday afternoon, and we understand now. Better places to eat within walking distance - Homestyle Hawaiian (also serves poke, it's simply dressed but fresher), K Sandwiches, Mien Trung. Edit: owner will address these concerns with staff

Pokemate has opened in the Mesa College Square off Linda Vista Rd. It has the same name as a Pokémon-themed application which might not have been a prudent decision by the owners. Because of a well-known local Vietnamese sandwich shop in this plaza, the parking situation can be quite congested during peak meal hours. The inside of the suite had four circular tables for on-site dining. Like nearly every other poke shop, the concept was build-your-own bowl. Three sizes were available... small (two protein scoops), medium (three protein scoops), and large (four protein scoops). The base choices were brown rice, white rice, spring mix, or half and half. Nine protein types were offered, of which two cost an extra dollar (albacore, yellowtail). Other than quail egg (+$2), all of the toppings were included in the bowl price. Ten different sauces were available, of which three had some degree of spiciness. I chose albacore, salmon, scallop, and tuna for my large bowl with white rice. I requested most of the toppings except the spicier ones like the jalapenos. Poke sauce and eel sauce were my final touches. The ingredients were fresh so I had no issues there. Avocado did not incur a surcharge which is very common at most poke shops. That was a bonus. I gave my dining experience at Pokemate a four star rating.

I noticed the sign for this new shop a few weeks ago and they finally opened! It's a short drive from the hospital and today I had a chance to try the small bowl with salmon and it was delicious! The staff was so kind and friendly. Such a cute little shop to visit! I got the small bowl: white rice, two scoops salmon, spicy kewpie mayo, cucumber, spicy crab, edamame, seaweed salad, avocado. I was shocked to see they offered tofu and chicken as a protein for those who don't eat fish. I'll definitely be returning for lunch.

    Danielle D.

Super sad. A tiny portion of fish and toppings, all rice and the rice was so hot the little bit of fish I did get was half cooked and fishyyyyyy. I had to throw it away.

    Clarissa S.

Wow! Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Hands down the best poke bowl I've ever had. My favorites were the spicy crab salad and the spicy tuna. The fish was extremely fresh along with the veggies and toppings. Customer service was excellent and the bowls are affordable compared to other places. I can't wait to come back

You can tell when people actually care about the guest experience, and they absolutely do. Nate deserves a special shoutout for creating a Thai chili ginger soy sauce that genuinely blew my mind. I'm not exaggerating -- the balance of heat, sweetness, and umami was unreal. One of those flavors that makes you pause mid-bite and go, wow. It elevated everything it touched and is still living rent-free in my head. Dominic was equally incredible -- seamless service, great energy, and made the entire experience feel effortless and welcoming. Together, they made what could've been a normal meal into something truly memorable. If you're lucky enough to be taken care of by Dominic and Nate, you're in for an exceptional experience. This is the kind of service (and flavor) that keeps you coming back.

Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience. I placed my order online four hours in advance because I have a long drive back home to Julian and just wanted to pick it up and go. When I arrived, there was no greeting from staff, no clear pickup line, and no acknowledgment of customers waiting. The staff seemed to have tunnel vision, only focusing on what was directly in front of them while ignoring everyone else. After standing there for quite a while, I finally had to ask about my order. Instead of it being ready like it should have been, they hadn't even started making it. I ended up waiting over 30 minutes in line for something that was ordered hours earlier. What made it worse was when the mistake became obvious, no one apologized or acknowledged the inconvenience. The staff acted like it was no big deal and showed zero professionalism or accountability. I don't come into the city often, but when I do I like to try new places. Sadly, this experience was disappointing and the customer service was extremely poor. I would honestly say save your time and money and go somewhere that actually values their customers--especially in this economy. Time is money, and money is time. If a restaurant doesn't respect your time, they're definitely not going to respect your money. As for the food, it was very basic and lacked flavor. They were also very stingy with the sauce, which made the bowl even more dry and underwhelming. Overall, between the poor service, long wait despite ordering hours ahead, lack of accountability from staff, and mediocre food, this place was a big disappointment. I will not be coming back. There are plenty of better places that actually value their customers. Thank you and have a nice day.

She spent a good portion of our "turn" chatting with another waitress before finally turning to us--still with zero eye contact. We ordered a cioppino, a clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, fish and chips, and a dozen oysters. I noticed she shouted the soup orders back to the kitchen but didn't say a word about the fish and chips. When I specifically asked her if she got the fish and chips, she said "yes," took my card, and sent us to a table. Our soups and oysters arrived after 15 minutes, but another 30 minutes passed with no sign of the rest of the meal. When I followed up with the same waitress to check on the status, she looked at the order and flatly told me there were no fish and chips on there. By that point, the restaurant was already closing. Located in Gaslamp, street parking is your best bet. For most spots, you have to pay metered parking until 10 p.m. I was able to find an exception to the rule around 8:30 p.m. Ambiance (3/5): Werewolf is a pretty laid back bar. Which is right up my alley. This happened to be karaoke night. This may be an unpopular option but I'm not a fan of karaoke. If you are, you're golden. I would've enjoyed the ambiance a bit better on a standard night. We sat at a wooden booth in the back of the restaurant. Service (3/5): You order at the bar (both food and drinks). They were fairly busy on a Wednesday and only two bartenders were working. As a result, service was a bit slow. After placing my order, I closed out. Their cocktail list doesn't list prices. Not a fan of that. I asked the bartender how much some particular cocktails cost, and he didn't go. Not a good look. Drinks (4/5): Werewolf has an interesting list of craft cocktails. Sweet with a little kick. The wings were fried just right with a crispy exterior and juicy inside. Finger-lickin' good! I also couldn't say no to papas balls lol. This appetizer is their version of hushpuppies. Taken to a higher level. Stuffed with mashed tater, bacon, cilantro, cotija, and drizzled with house sauce. Normally, papas balls would scare me, but these are scrumptious. The two appetizers combined were filling for a full meal.

After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.
