I ordered a poke bowl, a spicy garlic shrimp bowl, and a small pork fries, which came out to about $60 after tax and tip. I then waited for about 25 minutes for my food. Now the food itself - honestly? It was quite bad. Bad enough that I think the folks giving it 5 stars are ones who think pepper is spicy and adding a seasoning besides salt is doing something. I could barely take more than a few bites of the poke before I was hit with that fishy taste you get from thawing out frozen filets not meant to be eaten raw. Maybe they can ask some of the other poke spots where they source their ahi because theirs don't give off that ocean aroma. The pork fries would have been good if the fries weren't dripping in oil - they were soaked in it as if they put the fries in oil that wasn't hot yet (either that or they re-fried previously fried fries). Either way, I picked off the pork and ate that, even the gelatinous membrane that was in there too. Now you really can't mess up garlic shrimp.. or can you? The shrimp itself was well cooked and tender. The sauce was VERY salty (maybe some unsalted butter could solve this?) and they were pretty light handed with the garlic, which is disappointing when you're expecting an island style serving of GARLIC shrimp. And what was with the rice? It was cooked with so much water or milk that it was basically eating porridge. Disappointing is probably the best way I can describe this. Maybe this is the best Hawaiian food in Sequim but drive a little out of town and you can do so much better.

It's the fact that the main door the employee use to go into the kitchen to give their orders to the cooks had cob webs on the top of the door.i mean everyone of them walk through that door hundreds of times throughout the week because I could tell it's been there for some time. Where's the food inspector, should be a concern because if it's there in full view of customers and employees, what else is happening as far as cleanliness at Kona Kitchen. I will be there within two or three days and wonder if the cobweb will still be a fixture there... it's something that is annoying because nobody's done anything about it. Amazing.

There were three others dining onsite, but also later overheard phone orders taken followed with brisk takeout pickups. They also have the capacity for catering with product, prices, and serving pan sizes posted on the wall. The Homie ordered the loco moco with overeasy eggs, plus their standard cheeseburger. He was pretty happy with the outcome. Consistent to his previous experience, but also took note of the quality and reasonable cost for the cheeseburger. I opted for the laulau plate which came with the requisite two scoops steamed rice and one scoop mac (Hawaiian style macaroni salad) with a sizeable laulau. I unwrapped the outer ti leaves and cut into the taro leaves (steamed like spinach) to reveal succulent pork and tender butterfish inside. This was great with a little added shoyu. Spot on delicious! The ice water also hit the spot. Perfectly chilled without any aftertaste from a pitcher. None of that tepid water in a stoppered top glass bottle or carafe. Refreshing! Overall satisfying meal at a reasonable price.
