Build Your Own Small Poke Bowl

The salmon and spicy tuna tasted pretty fresh, and the spicy tuna definitely had a bit of a kick. The house sauce and ponzu sauce were pretty flavorful, and I especially liked the crispy garlic. There are a lot of options for toppings and protein, but I wish there was a bigger portion of protein. I have also noticed that there's usually one topping missing from my order. I also would have preferred if the imitation crab had mayonnaise mixed in. The service was also fast.

I came here for lunch with a friend and I have to say this is one of the best poke spots I've tried! Located in an alleyway, the hidden spot has surprisingly fresh fish in big chunks with average prices. I ordered on the kiosk and my order was made quick (I wish the employees called out when it was ready). The menu had some preset bowl options, but I always like a build-your-own; I was hoping for more sauce options, but the spicy mayo was good. I definitely would come back to try other combinations.

Quick and fast, order on machine. Would have preferred face to face interaction. It automatically selects 20% for tips, which seems odd for the lack of interaction with staff. Yummy and good portion size. Repeat customer.

YES. SO GOOD. Conveniently located for students, and quick order pickup through Snackpass. You can also order by kiosk inside. Lots of dine-in seating if that's what you're looking for. I got the medium bowl with brown rice and greens, salmon + spicy tuna + tofu, corn, kale, cucumber, sweet onion, green onion, imitation crab, seaweed salad, crispy onion, and wasabi+shoyu+house sauce for $16.65. And they give you enough options that you get abundant toppings without needing to pay extra. This meal was SO FILLING - lasted me two meals. Bang for your buck??? Not just for your wallet, but this bowl was also so satisfying for the soul - the ingredients were all good quality, sauces were super rich.

The receipt shows being charged for a bag I never received. Carried all my food

they never give bags, yet the kiosk machine charges you automatically for bags! that is robbery!

My go to place for yummy and reasonably priced poke! I always get the small bowl and the portion is perfect for two meals. The price is reasonable since you are allowed to add a lot of different toppings. Service is also very fast.

Loved this spot! We were hankering for poke bowl and stopped here for a bite. The restaurant is clean and bright. Most of the orders were pre-ordered and picked up. We ordered in and ate inside. So many options here! You can order one of their preset bowls or make your own. We opted to make our own and there are so many toppings! While eating there, my daughter's bowl was a bit dry, so she brought it back to the counter, and asked them for more sauce. Our lunch was good! We'll definitely come back when we're back in the area.

Poké Bar is a killer deal with Snackpass. The portions are huge for the price point and it's really good. ORDERING: I ordered on Snackpass and my bowl came out to be about $13 dollars for a large which was crazy. The ordering process was straightforward and there are many options to choose from. TASTE: Dope! The salad was crisp, the tuna and salmon were fresh, and the crab salad was great! The cucumbers were also killer too and added an extra layer of crunch to the poke alongside the sesame seeds and the other toppings on top. The corn was also nice and added a layer of flavor as well. PICKUP: The wait was really short and straightforward! Picking up was really easy and simple and the staff was really nice about it. Overall, I'll definitely be coming back to get my fix in Berkeley! Hint: Use Snackpass for a great discount and get poke with your friends!

I'd say a medium will get the job done. 3 proteins for a medium and fresh ingredients are why I'd choose this poke place over others. I'd say the only downside is paying extra for using the kiosk instead of paying at the counter.

Decent poke bar tucked right near Berkeley's center of campus! It's slightly hidden in a hallway, but is a small little place. Good: The ordering process is very streamlined! You use a paper form and mark off what you want. It's great that you can get unlimited options for some things. I found the portion sizes here great. I liked the salmon and the spicy tuna poke the most, and appreciated the dry onions on top. Bad: The sauce is somewhat unevenly distributed, I couldn't find the sauce on some sides and too much on others. Overall enjoyed my experience!

I ordered a medium sized poke bowl ($20)and it was 80% rice and barely any real ingredients. It tasted good though.

Not fresh fish! Extremely fishy smell, and I got food poisoning from the food here. Only would recommend it if you have a stomach of steel.

We entered a few minutes before peak dinner times, so there were seats to choose and sit from. By the time we left, mostly all the seats were filled up, so I would suggest coming in early. I liked the naming for each of the ramen dishes, some I recognized the names from Hawai'i. For this round, we ordered 3 different types of ramen: the Kuni, Broke da Mouth, and the Miso Hungry. These orders also came around the same time. A notable elements I liked about the ramen was that the noodles were chewy and springy, and the broth was smooth and easy to drink. I also didn't have the urge to drink lots of water either, so the seasoning was perfect. The other element was that I got to enjoy the ramen's broth and noodles as the stars of the dish, and the proteins, like the pork were supporting roles. For me, what I enjoy ramen are the broth and noodles, so I'm happy that these are prominent in the dish, rather than me having other chow down a thick slab of pork. This restaurant hit the right marks for what a delicious ramen is for me, so I'll come back, and maybe try their other broths.

The atmosphere was chill and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We ended up talking for hours about everything until I realized how late it was and the bowls were cleared. They were patient and didn't kick us out right away. Lol Ty Ty Very good ramen, good place to catch up and friendly staff. I'm still biased and have a few favorite ramen spots though

One type of food which takes me back to the Summer is Hawaiian food. There are many good places to grab Hawaiian food. One particular Hawaiian dish is one of which a few places make good which is Loco Moco. I say not all Loco Moco are the same. Some places that serve Loco Moco are more Moco ( means booger in Spanish) making me Loco( means crazy in Spanish). There is a place in Berkeley I like to get good Moco Loco at and it's called Moku Hawaiian. On a September Summer stroll I landed in Berkeley for some Hawaiian food. Inside the decor which caught my eye was on the wall with artwork of Kaws. The walls were also covered with surf boards. There were a few tables inside. There was a line up to order using a digital kiosk. I had ordered the Loco Moco. It came with a well seasoned Mac salad and the beef of loco Moco was so tender and the sauce was tasty. The egg within the loco moco made the dish stand out more with the different combinations of flavor. I am excited to try it again. I washed it down with some Hawaiian Sun Luau Punch which was not too sweet and packed a punch. Overall a great value. a chicken katsu that measures out to two meals, great deal alert!…read more so I have been here many times, tried the chicken katsu, hawaiian bbq chicken, aloha bbq chicken, and white island fish, which is about half the menu, and always great and always filling so a chicken katsu comes with two scoops of rice, one scoop of mac salad, a small bed of cabbage, some steamed brocolli, and three crispy and juicy pieces of chicken. There are two dipping sauces, a plum based katsu sauce, and a soy sauce hybrid. The katsu sauce has a little bit of heat, but mild enough that my SO whom normally does not eat any spicy, can handle it. Which ever combo or item you pick, it's outstanding. Because the items have a lot of food, I usually skip the appetizers. So for either lunch or dinner, you have two meals out of any items. Service is great, I usually order on the phone and pick it up, but ordering in person or online is fast, staff is great and friendly. the decor is simple and the place is very clean. There are about seven tables and parking can be limited when the place is busy.

The service was great and felt very intentional, with each dish coming out one by one so we could savor everything individually. We started our meal with marinated mackerel toasts. These were life changing! The flavor was incredible. I wish we had ordered 20 more. Next we had the snow crab miso begna cauda. The broccoli was roasted nicely, and the dip was rich and full of flavor. After that, we had the wagyu cutlets. These were nice and crispy, but we could have skipped this one. Next we had an order of clams, and two skewers (bluefin tuna and lamb). Finally, we got the uni carbonara pasta, which was creamy yet light. We were feeling a little hungry still, so at the last second we ordered the beef tongue and the sweet potato brulee for dessert. The beef tongue was delicious! We ordered it because we saw a nearby table had ordered it, and it looked amazing. It did not disappoint! The flavor was perfect, and the beef melted in our mouths. These sweet potato brulee was also exceptional! I would absolutely recommend Kiraku for your next night out!

One of my husband's favourites was the fish porridge. However, after a few times, they decided not to make it anymore. It's a shame cause it was their best dish even though my husband normally doesn't like porridge, he thinks they made the porridge so good that he can give it an exception! Fast forward to last week, we decided to give Kiraku a try again - dine in. I noticed that they have quite a strict policy in reservation (if we don't show up, they automatically charge a fee and we have to spend at least $50 pp like other high end restaurants which I guess it's ok because it's hard to do business nowadays). When we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. The restaurant was very small, obviously all the tables were very small as well. There was hardly any room for the wait staff to walk/move around and my head/arm got hit a couple of times by their elbows. That was not the worst though. The place was so loud that we could not hold a conversation. I felt that my ears and my head were hurting by all the noise from people talking and the sound of the dishes clinking. However, that still was not the worst! We looked at the menu, my husband doesn't eat raw stuff (I did tell him that they have lots of cooked items). I asked the wait staff what kind of fresh sashimi they have since I have a craving. She told me they have blue fin tuna. I was so excited so I placed that order. Here comes the break down of my disappointment: 1. Blue fin tuna, turned out that they actually didn't have. So I had to choose either salmon sashimi or torched mackerel. I don't like to order salmon sashimi since most of the salmon restaurants serve is not wild caught so the farm raised salmon often tastes fishy. I decided to order the torched mackerel at the wait staff suggested. It was a big mistake....the mackerel was so fishy that I couldn't finish the whole thing. My husband ordered the chicken karaage and the snow crab with torched cabbage which were only ok, we also had the tender beef tongue skewer which was good, black cod miso which my husband said I cook that one much better, we also had jumbo squid and gyoza which were only ok. Our dessert was probably the best - the sweet potato brûlée. We have decided to scratch this restaurant off our dining list because the food was just not good enough for us to give it another try! I guess I am spoiled by the excellent Japanese food in Singapore, Japan and Australia, this place just cannot compare to any of the places we had but I am sure I can find other better Japanese restaurants in California!

Casual and relaxed vibe feeling like an island escape. Water was promptly provided and was kept refilled throughout our visit. We tried 4 cocktails. Solid painkiller and variety of drinks and flavors but my absolute favorite was the "Cucu Lada" this was essentially a piña colada with cucumber. Really refreshing and nicely prepared with crushed ice. We also tried the crab rangoons. These came out ultra fast but were not hot, seems like they prep them ahead of time. The dips were awesome though, we loved the spicy mustard that they were served with. Never had that before with rangoons. It is no longer impossible to get a reservation, but I wouldn't chance it and just try to walk in. Because the restaurant is so small if you happen to have luggage with you, they will store it for you, like a bag check, which I thought was pretty neat. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share because that's how you eat here. I really enjoyed the caviar taro puff. The duck liver mousse was the only dish I could do without. It ended up being on the sweeter side since it is banana bread, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor combinations. The grilled zucchini was amazing as was the heirloom tomato salad. We also get scallion rice noodle and fried rice with the spam on the side. They do fried food very well. We got the fried game hen but since we had a table of seven we increased the dish to six pieces instead of four. We probably could've done with just the four cause they ended up being huge, which was surprising. We also got the swordfish Katsu, which is also fried. Out of the two I would probably get the swordfish Katsu. Mainly because even though the food is so deliciously fried, it was still a lot of fried food. We also got the chips and dip which I think will be a crowd pleaser even for pick your eaters because they are basically elevated potato chips with dip. For drink, I went with the carrot tea. This came with a stellar recommendation, and it definitely did not disappoint. The restaurant was beautiful and there's an open kitchen right in the middle. We were seated near the kitchen in a booth. I told our server that I am lactose tolerant, and she said something that I missed. She then walked away and came back with a pink slip with all the items on the menu on what I need to avoid and dishes that they can make modifications. I thought that was such a sweet touch that I've never experienced before. For appetizers, we got the tuna poke and pig head croquette. The fresh tuna poke on top of a crispy nori was a very tasty bite but the tuna was a bit chewy from the sinew. The pig head croquette was amazing. Perfectly fried and meaty bite. It paired well with the fresh cube of watermelon and fish caramel sauce. For entrees, the black cod was a huge surprise for me. I didn't think I would like it but it became the night's highlight. The fish was perfectly cooked and served on top of crispy rice with a very mild but impressionable coconut green curry sauce. The second highlight for me was the pork shoulder chop. Very tender and juicy cut with really good sauce. The miso cabbage and the candied pecans really gave that extra oomph to each bite. Lastly, the fried game hen was fried so perfectly and was super juicy inside. The pickled carrot was meh for me though. For desserts, we ended with a milk tea panna cotta with stone fruit granita and tuile. It was made with coconut milk which is for a lactose intolerant girly like me. Not a budget meal, but imo, well worth the gastronomical and hospitable experience.
