Went their on Sunday afternoon to buy some swag, no customers were in the store, OK yeah they had a must wear a mask in front of the door but I walked in without a mask on, lady told me I needed to put my mask on I thought man that's pretty stupid when you go to restaurant in Moab and nobody has a mask on so you know what I turned around and left. Called and asked about a tire. They had something similar. So went down there. If ya know anything about Moab you don't turn left during season off Main Street. Well we were gonna except one of the employees was doing circles in front of the drive way so after about 2 minutes in the suicide lane he cleared out and we were able to pull into the closet I mean parking lot. Went inside and was greeted kindly and proceeded to go to service desk. Waited several minutes watching a guy work on a bike and then peered around a corner and Lo' its the guy who was blocking the entry into their 5 sq ft parking lot. He was on the phone texting vigorously.! Cool got his attention. He showed me the product I called about half heartedly and talked me outta buying the tire. So that's why 3 stars. That was a plus. The bikes were great, but dealing with the below-average-intelligence manager and his employees was definitely not. We drove to Moab from Denver, and arrived to pick up our bikes. Our friends from Chicago were with us, with their own separate bike reservations. We arrived at the shop to pick them up, and the employee helping us asked us how we planned on transporting the bikes. Not knowing any better, we had planned to stick them in the back of my truck. (This was our first time renting bikes in Moab, and we had absolutely no idea what to expect.) We assumed that the friendly bike rental shop would take care of us. We found out that transporting the bikes in this manner was not acceptable to them, and she started telling us that she wasn't sure they even had any racks left for us to rent. When I pointed out that waiting to ask us how we planned to transport the bikes until we drove for 6 hours and arrived in their shop, was a little too late, she said she always asks people when they call. I pointed out that our friends made their own reservations, and that no one had told them either, she went and got the manager to come talk to us. His immediate attitude was unfriendly. I told him that we were all from out of town, and that we were upset that his staff had neglected to inform us that we should probably make reservations for racks at the same time we made one for the bikes. (At this point they were still "trying to see" if they could locate racks for us to rent). He started arguing with me, telling us that we should have known better, because these were $12,000 worth of bikes that we were trying to take out of his shop. We should have realized that these bikes would need special racks and we should have asked to reserve them when we called. It was futile to try and reason with this kind of logic, so when another member of his staff told us that they had found some racks for us, we decided to salvage our day. I definitely don't recommend this shop. And reading through some of the reviews below, I see that we were there that same weekend where he threatened to call the cops on people that were just trying to argue their point. This guy hasn't the slightest clue on the concept of customer service, and will only ruin your trip if given the chance. There are plenty of other bike shops in Moab. Go anywhere but here. read more

The quality and variety of mountain-bikes they carried were very good. The reasoning capacity and ethical fortitude of the owner is subpar, at best. It's a shame, because this store has the potential of being great. New management is in dire need. Called in advance to ask if we could bring the bikes 30 minutes before closing time, instead of the 60 minutes before closing time we had agreed upon. The associate we spoke to said it would be no problem. We actually got to the bike shope 5 minutes to 6, but found it was a completely different story. The owner wouldn't honor our previous arrangement, listen to what had happened, reason for himself or try to speak to the associate we got the 'okay' from. In the end, he got very upset that we were arguing our point, trying to inform him of what happened, that he threatened to call the cops on us if we didn't leave, which is very odd behavior given that we neither were yelling or using any obscenities. A few days later, we found a charge on our credit-cards for 3-times the amount that we originally owned. This is not okay. This type of behavior is indicative of a serious psychological condition and is characteristic of a slum-lord or a mob boss. Given that there are other bike rental places around that area, I don't ever see myself going back while that store is being managed by that lunatic. read more

Awful Experience at Poison Spider Bicycles. As a tourist visiting Utah for a short stay my friends and I thought it would be a great idea to rent bikes and explore the city of Moab. After showing up at the establishment at the agreed upon time and date the employees at Poison Spider pointed out that a bike rack would not fit on our 2018 Ford Explorer. We were then immediately told by the staff to pay up as it was "too bad" and "not our fault" the bike rack would not fit on the car. The lack of consideration was very surprising and the staff's aggressiveness towards us made me feel a sense of hatred towards tourists or possibly my race. After asking for a compromise numerous times given the situation we were told to wait and speak to the manager Billy. Billy took around 35 minutes to get to the store and upon his arrival proceeded to berate us for showing up late and being unorganized. These accusations were made without having any sort of dialogue or context to the actual situation (we were not late or unorganized). He also came in sporting an assistant to the sheriff badge, which made my friends and I very uncomfortable, this to us was a scare tactic. At the end of this close to 1hour ordeal in what felt like 100 degree weather (the store was not air conditioned) we finally decided it was not worth our limited time in Moab to argue with Billy and his staff even though in our eyes we were justified in not wanting to pay full price for all the bikes and racks that would not fit on our vehicle. Billy proceeded to charge us more than half of what we owed plus fees for the bike racks that did not fit on our vehicle. Moving forward I hope this experience provides context and warning to future tourists looking to spend some time biking in the beautiful city of Moab. The confrontational attitude exhibited by the staff at this store was inexcusable. For the staff at PS, I'd hope moving forward you can properly assess what vehicles are compatible with your bike racks, as it would constitute as a deal breaker if a bike rack feature were not possible. Lastly, the young staff behind the counter at the store looked drained and extremely uncomfortable. Let's be real here for a minute: mountain bikes kick serious ass. Accordingly, a shop that deals with such ass-kickery in absolute exemplary manner, it would follow, ALSO kicks huge ass. This shop is Poison Spider. Us Norcal dirt riders have shiny plastic-carbon hardtail 29er "I'm-almost-a-road-bike-disguised-as-a-mountain bike" bikes that are no match for the ruggedness of Moab's trail offerings. No problem. The guys and gals at PSB know trail bikes inside and out. They get you set up, rolling, and having a dirt-eatin' smile on your face in no time. Not only is everyone on the staff incredibly knowledgeable (from trails to equipment), they all are just down right friendly. My buds and I have a yearly October pilgrimage to the Utah desert, and seeing the gang at the shop each year is like being reunited with an old friend. I will never rent bikes from anyone else during these trips. Product, selection, service, PSB absolutely has it all. *Gratuitous anecdote* Totally yard-sale'd it the first day out on the trail due to a blown front tire. Bent the rim, cooked the rotor, and had to limp back into town. The guys in the service department took care of me right away. Charged me ZERO labor, and only asked me to chip in twenty bucks to cover their cost of a new front brake rotor. This, by the way, is standard practice. How's that for customer service?! read more

Anyone that complains about this place is way off! These folks, especially Amy, were on point with everything! They were professional, efficient, and ready answer dumb questions from a bunch of yahoos from Tennessee. They fit us on the right bikes and sent us to the right trails (and some good food/brew). If I had a bike shop this would be it...minus all of the Poison Spider gear. The people working here obviously love mountain biking and the outdoors. They were down to earth and personable. These guys are just great. They were our base of operations during our stay in Moab and while some of the clothing is a bit pricey there, I never felt taken advantage of. When I broke a part of my chain, they fixed it up. When I needed a derailleur ring that they didn't carry, they rooted through their old bike parts and just gave me one. When I busted my knee up they offered advice on knee pads. And they let us fill up our water jugs (we were camping) outside at the faucet. Big fan, second year running. read more

This place was a total disappointment. My group rented 4 bikes from this place. We arrived the night before to pick up the bikes to get an early ride in the next day. Despite multiple phone calls to confirm the plan they turned us away when we arrived, even though we were there 20 minutes before closing. No big deal. The next day we rented from them in the morning and went biking. At 4:30pm we called and asked if it would be alright if we got the bikes back at 6pm. (they close at 7pm and have a 5pm return policy). When we called the person who answered, Matt, he said it would be no big deal but if we arrived after 6:30 they would charge us a late fee. We arrived at 5 minutes to 6pm. After they meticulously inspected for tiny scratches or damage on the four bikes it was 6:15. They said we arrived late and charged us for a second day($65) of rent dispite having a sign taped to the counter stating the late fee is $15. When we tried to explain to the manager what we were told by the employee over the phone he responded "I don't care" and literally kicked us out of his store! He went on to taunt us saying "I can do whatever I want. I have your credit card information and a signed contract right here." Keep in mind this was the owner and manager named Scott. I tried to speak with him but he was not receptive. When I took out my camera to take a picture of his sign saying the late fee was $15 he yelled at me to leave and called the police! We left and found a charge for $200(price of 4 rentals for an additional day) on the credit card used for a deposit. On top of that my credit card was also charged for an additional day of rental meaning he actually charged me for 3 days of rental! When I asked around town later I found this place has a terrible reputation around town with the locals for taking advantage of people. With so many other fantastic bike shops in the area you really should avoid these guys. If I could leave 0 stars I would. It was a terrible rental experience. Go else where. All the locals agree this place sucks for rentals and I agree. Also the 5 star reviews on yelp seem very unreliable. Look at the reviews on google and you start to get an idea of how many people these guys take for a ride. You should try Uranium or Chile Pepper bikes for rentals. WAY better customer survive, better bikes, and experience. read more

PS will do fine support with your components.] Two bad experiences in two weeks. While I have used Poison Spider for minor repairs and adjustments for over a decade plus bought stuff in the shop I added a bit more meat to the relationship in April 2016 - and lost. 1) I brought the bike to their mechanics for an analysis of my over-stretched chain and how it had affected the cassette. The bike was new a year ago but I've been riding a lot more and riding the southwest a lot more. He explained the damage and showed how the rear hub was dying and suggested new hubs (DT Swiss) and rims (Stans). I was already aware of the issue so no surprise. Great service so far. I thought it would be nice to support a Moab shop with the $750 build of two new wheels and they said they could order the rear hub and I should drop my bike there Monday PM and it would be ready by Tuesday AM. Fine, I wouldn't miss a precious ride. I was leaving Wednesday so time was tight. I dropped the bike off just before noon on Monday, I had to drive back to Moab from Fruita because they mis-informed me Friday and I wasn't expecting to do the build with them, and another staff member said the part was on the UPS truck for delivery. Except it wasn't. None of the five people involved at that point bothered to check tracking. When it didn't arrive they didn't call me so I could retrieve my bike and ride it until the next day. While the wheels were built the next day I ended up missing two rides. No apologies, no concern that I lost two rides, no little gift like a tee shirt, nothing from the five people involved. They acted like it was my fault I had so little time left. Blame the customer. Ride days are expensive for those of us who travel far to ride Moab and these folks don't care. It wasn't a critical repair, I was just trying to be supportive. I should have had my bike shop back home do the work. 2) The week before I brought two guests there to rent bikes, my first time renting at PS. The old guy behind the counter was concerned about transporting the PS bikes plus my bike in my van. I told him the bikes wouldn't touch anything and he could have looked out the front door and seen my setup. I left while the guests were being setup and when I returned my guests told me that they are required to take the shop shuttle to the Brand Trails and ride the bikes back to PS and no more. He ruined our plans to go to Navajo Rocks without any interest in checking if there was a real problem. Together these incidents showed me a staff that doesn't care about customer's situations and makes no effort to accommodate us. They are arrogant and self-centered. Six guys in two weeks. I've had enough of that place. In the 13 years of biking Moab every year for at least two weeks I've had better experiences at other shops. read more

They are meticulous in their approach to bike maintenance and repair, and if you've ever ventured out onto Slickrock, you'll quickly understand why! I don't want to start a fight, but seriously "Scott K" (if that IS your real name...), what the hell, dude? You publicly called a woman who works at the shop a bitch? How Ron Burgundy of you; I bet you have many leather-bound books and make sure to tell "the ladies" that you're "kind of a big deal." If you've had a bad experience at a shop, you're totally within your right to express that, and actually, you should! But I stopped taking your review seriously the second I read the words "female dog." I've been to the shop several times and even ordered PSB merch online, and I've never had a bad experience with this shop. The worst I'd ever had was when an item I ordered online was out of stock, and you know how they responded? I was refunded immediately, and when I called the shop to find a replacement item, the girl who answered not only made a recommendation -- she gave me a full list of everything available that was comparable to what I wanted (I'd share what that item is, but it's a present for my boyfriend that he has yet to receive!). She then put the order in the mail the same day. How's that for swift service? So the next time you find yourself outside of Moab and someone at some boutique bike shop wants to give you the eyeroll, just mention that time you watched the magician mechanics at PSB fix your bike, or if you have one on hand, flash their signature spider sticker, and see how the service suddenly changes. We had excellent service when we rented bikes for the weekend. They were helpful in suggesting routes. They even loaned us a rack for our car, which they put on for us while we waited. My wife, who had never ridden a mountain bike before came in a little nervous and left feeling pretty confident. The bikes were new Trek Fuel full - suspension 29ers. You've never seen a bike shop with so much self-logoed merchandise for sale. Poison Spider t-shirts. Poison Spider caps. Poison Spider jerseys and socks. Poison Spider thong underwear (but no boxers for dudes). You've also rarely seen such a cool place to rent a mountain bike from either. These guys are helpful and the price is good. For $40 you can get a full day's worth of high-quality full-suspension bicycle goodness that you can then proceed to trash the living snot out of on the nearby slick rock trails down the road near Arches National Park. They even throw in a brand spankin' new Poison Spider water bottle that you can keep as a souvenir. Boo to the tourist dude that kept hogging up the fitting room when I was trying to buy a Poison Spider soccer jersey, but that's not the shop's fault so no star deduction for you. read more

Visited Poison Spider Bikes on June 8th 2010. My wife and I are avid cyclists and were on our first trip to Moab. Since we already have bikes and gear, we were going into the shop more for advice on trail recommendations. I'm on the verge of between two/three stars, but decided with two for the reason that the staff were more into their own scene rather than help customers in the store. I didn't get bad service, but the gents working there didn't seem to care at all that I was there either. I finally did get one guy to show me some trail maps. I wanted to really like this place, but even the older (mid 50's) gentleman who rung up my map purchase was ambivalent about wethere I bought anything there or not. Maybe the rentals department is a different case, but as for me, it seems this place is relying on its past name and reputation. I was just really surprised by the lack of service, specially since this is their slow season (hot summer) and the economy for retail and tourism is in the doldrums. read more

Excellent establishment and run very well. We booked our bikes 8 months in advance and never had a problem. When we showed up they had all of our names and bikes ready with maps at the go. Gave great advice on where to ride and how to get back. Check out was seamless when we came back, took less than 5 minutes. Bikes were EXCELLENT. Handled all the terrain very well and brakes were ON POINT. Great shopping selection and they take their time explaining all the bike components to you when you start so you know how to fine tune your ride. These guys were really great to work with. My family and I are brand new to the mountain bike world and they gave us some good tips and helpful info. We had three of our own bikes and rented one for our 16 year old daughter. I just rented the cheapest bike since we would only be doing simple trails. This bike was worth $2200 and was really great for the trails we went on and would likely be perfect for more advanced trails. The bike didn't fit our rack but they gave us an adapter and helped us get it assembled. They were super quick and very friendly. We will work with them again in the future. Great experience. I have been going to Moab for 15 years. The Mountain biking there is the best of the best. So is the service at Poison spider Bicycles. I use to go to one of the other bike shops in town, but after needing my bike fixed after a crash and PSB was the only bike shop that could help me at that time, I have been going there ever since.That was 9 years ago, and I still take my bike in there for a full tune up every spring. The mechanics there always give my bike the best race ready tune. No other bike shop has help me with my bike and the little problems that go along with owning a high end bike, like Poison Spider Bicycles. Great bike shop and great people! These guys are good! Walked in to ask for some suggestions on road rides in the area. We immediately got a response from two individuals who were enthusiastic about their biking and shared that enthusiasm. We were talked to, given ride brochures and given details on all the rides listed. We tried one of the rides today and had a great time cycling 42 miles along the Colorado River. The day was a bit overcast so that helped with the temps. Our second experience came when after our ride, I went in to check on a clicking in my bottom bracket. The bike is 1.5 weeks old and like all things mechanical needed a few tweaks. As soon as I walked in they greeted me in a familiar fashion and asked if they could help with anything. I told them about the click and in no time the bike was on the work stand and Cullen was checking it over. I left the bike with them and went and got cleaned up. An hour or so later Cullen called and said he had completely disassembled the drive train. He stated that a few bolts were loose. He had me ride the bike in the parking lot. No clicking noted. The big surprise was when checking out. $10!!! That's it! I was expecting a lot more, especially since I didn't even buy the bike from them. In the end, I'd buy a bike from them, take mine for repair or just go hang out. Nice guys. Cullen even recommended a great place for lunch. Now that's service! BTW, they are primarily a MTB shop but cater to roadies as well. Nicely done. read more

Previously I had biked Moab several times with my own bicycle, but for my last visit I didn't want to bring it along. So I rented a mountain bike from Poison Spider Bicycles. I had no problems with the whole reservation-preparation process and when I got to the bike shop everything went smoothly. That could be largely due to the fact I did my own research beforehand and because I had been to Moab in the past. Bike shops can be a little chaotic at times, so plan everything ahead through the telephone if you can. read more

Half of the staff is really nice, the other half is rude. The staff member giving instructions flew through all of the safety briefings and used too much jargon, no one understood the proper procedures. I've rented a fair amount of bikes and these are overpriced, especially considering they are all black bikes and get extremely hot to the touch in the Utah heat. However, renting the bike rack for your car is very affordable. Wouldn't recommend to a friend. read more

I have been in Poison Spider many times over the years and have always had great service from them whether I am buying gear or asking trail advice. They are always the first shop I would call before heading out to Moab in the spring to get trail / snow info. That beta makes me want to pay back to them buy making them my gear shop or repair shop! I sold my current mountain bike and wanted to demo 3 bikes in 3 days while in Moab. Last weekend I demo'd two bikes I am interested in from Poison Spider (first time demo'ing in Moab). Their rates are comparable w/ the other shops in town (~$140 for 2 days - top of the line bikes), put pedals on / off, test it, tweak it blah blah blah. The reason I am finally writing a review after all these years is because of this demo and the one I demo'd from Rim Cyclery (see that review shortly). In addition to the above demo service, these folks tweaked everything to my weight, gave me the fix kit and indicated to use their tube (free) if I got a flat (See Rim Cyclery BS). They understand that riding may get a nick on the bike they just don't want frame damage, big marks or anyting that will take the bike out of service or decrease the value. Very fair! Everyone in their shop went above and beyond giving me advice and dialing in my demo bikes until I found the absolute perfect fit. Then they gave me a great deal and helped me figure out what to do with my old bike. I feel extremely lucky to have had their expert guidance through this process, this coming from someone who lives in Park City and Telluride and has a good deal of access to bike shop professionals. My wife and I were recommended Poison Spider from a friend and I saw they had an average of 4/5 stars on most review sites, decent enough for us. Everything about renting the bikes before we made it to Moab went smoothly and we were stoked they had Trek Fuels, 29 for me and 27.5 for my wife, dropper posts and everything. We get there and they don't have her dropper post on there. They said most women don't like the dropper and they switched it out. I'm kinda thinking, well couldn't those people just elect not to use the post at all? I brought it up and at first they were kinda reluctant to do anything about it, I'm well aware re-running an internal post can take some time, but maybe there was another rental for her to use of another brand. I was told that the picture on their website had a disclaimer that the bike may vary from actual specs. So they don't distinguish between "features" and "specs," when I think of specifications I think like a derailleur broke and they used SLX instead of XT, not we removed the dropper post.. Why not just rent someone a bike where the previous renter wanted narrower bars and you are now stuck with 500mm wide fixie-like handlebars? They ended up digging up another bike with a dropper post out of the back, but like other reviewers said, you really have to force customer service out of them. When you return the bikes get ready for them to practically bring out a magnifying glass to pour over the frame for any blemish whatsoever even when we purchased optional insurance. They're used bikes in mountain bike paradise, so all that advertising about "shredding gnar" are true, just don't let any rocks kick up into the downtube. Side note: they don't take American Express either, I have others so it's not a big deal. But that alone gives off a very cheap vibe, I know Amex charge more and I'm fine not using them for a $4 gas station snack purchase, but for hundreds or even thousands on rental bikes?
