I was in the area visiting a friend, and called in to place an order for pick up. I had decided on the turkey BLT with fries and a side of ranch. I typically like my fries very crispy, but despite the lack of crunch, these packed a nice greasy potato punch. I was a little disappointed in the ranch, however, as I could tell it was just from a Hidden Valley bottle as opposed to a homemade dressing. I was hoping that a quaint restaurant in a small town would have a delicious homemade variety. The turkey BLT was very good, despite being a simple sandwich. Toasted sourdough bread, mayo, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and American cheese. I'm not a fan of American cheese, but it actually worked well with the sandwich. If I could negative star, I would. Last summer we went here for breakfast twice, with a group of friends on a Sunday morning drive. Everything seemed pretty okay, and cinnamon roll pancakes are a neat idea, but sweetly sickening, so better to share. Six peeps, all happy. Today we were helping someone move, so a big, hearty breakfast on Friday am would have fit the bill. We talked about how good it was, so we went back. First I hate when old nosy coots sit and stare when you walk into a place. Then waitress took out drink order, but disappeared for 10 min. Our breakfast took forever. Probably 30-40 min for normal stuff. When it came the hash browns were raw and the gravy was like glue. Terrible service. Slow. Cold food. So lackluster I can't even explain. I'm out. Done. Won't be back. 4 women working couldn't handle this restaurant. Very sad. read more

Sometimes as a business owner myself I hesitate to write bad reviews. In this case, It's my responsibility. I ordered coffee which has water with brown food color. (Ok not really but might as well have been). I ordered scrambled eggs (soft) w/ diced ham. Hash browns well done with onions in them. An English muffin toasted well and bacon crisp. Not a complicated meal. I received, limp bacon. A not very toasted English muffin and a sheet of eggs browned on the grill and folded over into a vague flat omelet shape. Hash browns were well done with onions on the top of them and oil tasted funny maybe burnt? When I asked for the eggs to be redone. I was told you couldn't cook them the way I wanted them on the grill "it's really hard". (no its not I have done it myself hundreds of times.) I gave up.... Ate what I could, the English muffin, some of the HB and a bit of bacon. When we checked out I was asked if everything was ok, I responded that no it really wasn't. Should have been obvious I didn't touch the eggs and barley picked at the rest. No response was forthcoming. No mention of let me take that off the check since you didn't eat it, nothing. My wife had pancakes and sausage. The pancakes were dry but edible and she said the sausage was good. It's a sad shame that they do not know how to cook, because it's a quaint cute place that would be worth a stop if the food was edible. Owners its time for a new cook. read more

My husband and I stopped in Mineral Point for the Art Tour. We ate at the Pointer cafe for breakfast and it was excellent. I had the eggs and hashbrowns and my husband had the special - two eggs, pancakes and bacon. The food was fresh, tasty and the service was attentive and pleasant. I am reviewing after eating here a few times. I like the biscuits and gravy and sometimes call in for a to go container. The other night I had a breast of chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans and a roll. The gravy was not great and a little salty. The roll was not very tasty. My kids got cheeseburgers. My daughters was kind of pink in the middle but we didn't think anything of it. She ended up getting food poisoning. My son enjoyed his burger but said he has eaten better elsewhere. We have had their pies before and let me tell you, they are nothing to rave about. After the most recent incident, we will not be coming back. The food is just lackluster. read more

Breakfast was good and the coffee was included in the special. Great value. Everything was tasty. from talking to the waitress I understand everything here is made from scratch. We had a late breakfast this morning, so we didn't stop for lunch until 2 pm. We walked into the cafe to one guy sitting at the counter and a table of two just getting up to leave. The server was sitting at the counter, wrapping silverware. The sign said "Seat Yourself." The server looked over at us, but did not get up right away. She wrapped a few more sets of silverware, checked her phone, then brought us over menus. We asked for water, and she went back and sat down to wrap more silver. After 4 or 5 minutes she got up, brought us our water, and took our order. We both ordered cheese steak with fries. The food came out quickly and was fine for what it was. It was kind of odd that the cheese steak came with a bowl of aus jus (there was also French dip on the menu). read more

Our hotel clerk recommended the Pointer Cafe. We arrived at the restaurant at 6:55 P.M. and found a locked door but numerous cars in the parking lot. We were let in by apparently the only waitress who was also confused at the locked door. She told us to take a seat. When she came to take our order we were told the cook had just told her the grill was closed and we needed to choose something that could be heated in the microwave. After searching the menu and speaking to the very embarrassed waitress we concluded we had better find another place to eat. The outside landscaping shows pride of ownership which enticed us to stop. The place is clean and cute. The waitress was very friendly and quickly took our order. She then pointed out the large quantity of homemade pies available. We ate simple. I had an egg sandwich and hubby ordered the Patty melt with sweet potato fries. Btw, they serve breakfast all day. Drove 90 minutes specifically for the Pasty. Arrived to find a pleasant looking place that was large inside and stuck in the 90's. I ordered the Pasty and received a large piece of potato pie. Like scalloped potatoes layered in a pie crust with some ground beef layered throughout. It was not seasoned very well and was kind of disappointing if you want a traditional Cornish pasty. They also served what I guess could be called a cross between salsa and ketchup with the Pasty. Again, disappointed. The crust on the Pasty was flaky, buttery and delicious. So I figured a piece of their homemade pie would be great. I chose the "fresh Strawberry " and was informed of my luck at getting "the last piece". Hmm. Delivered to my seat was a large blood clot with strawberries that were probably fresh a week ago with a dollop of whipped cream. It was hard and dry for a blood clot and inedible. The place is clean and pleasant, service was great and maybe I was there on an off day (Sunday). The pie may have been great a day or two after whatever procedure was used to make it. And the past wasn't terrible, just not what I expected. read more

This is the best restaurant in the area by far. I am picky when it comes to coffee and the quality of coffee is usually reflective of the restaurant as a whole. The coffee was not burnt or stale. I talked with the waitress. They clean the coffee machine regularly. They make all their food from scratch. That includes the biscuits, gravies, pot roasts, and pies. They have a huge turnover on product and it shows. Everything is always fresh. I went in there in the morning, afternoon, and shortly before they closed and it was always excellent. The waitresses were stellar. They shared information about the food preparation and recommended a great local butcher to me. They ran out of gravy and had to make some more. I had to wait ten minutes. They gave me a free slice of pie. I'd eat there all the time if I lived in the area. I was welcomed even though they knew I was an outsider. read more

The food was all very good. Good cafe/diner food. LOTS of choices on the menu. Excellent cheese curds. The Pointer burger was very tasty and huge. The fried shrimp were really good, though the way they were breaded made it tough to find the tails. At the end we were FULL and satisfied. Our only real complaint was that our waitress was very young and seemed to either be new or not too experienced. And thought it wasn't busy, she seemed to be overextended with no help coming to her. I was staying in Mineral Point for awhile and decided to have friends meet for lunch at Suzy's Pointer Cafe. We met on a Sunday early afternoon. Two of us got there first and went in. We saw a sign that said Seat Yourself. There were 3 or 4 people working but no one said a word, maybe Welcome, Just find a seat, nothing!!! We went and sat down and it took about 5 minutes before anyone came to our table although 2 waitresses walked by our table three times and said nothing! Our third friend arrived. Someone finally came to our table and asked about drinks. Later we ordered - we all had pasties. They were generous pieces but mostly potato, onion, and very little meat, and pretty salty. They brought the ticket and, again, never said a word. Do they pick it up at the table? Do I go to the counter to pay? They didn't say so I went to the counter to pay. A young lady finally came over by the cash register but she didn't know what to do so the other lady that had been just standing there had to help her. Not a Thank you for coming in, Come again - NOTHING! They all seemed pretty rude and not welcoming at all! I will NEVER go back. What a horrible experience. There are really great places to eat in Mineral Point but this is NOT one of them! read more

Its a nice ma and pa type cafe just down the road. If you're on 151 its a quick on and off. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It doesn't have the old world charm and atmosphere that the other Mineral point restraints have, but its good food. read more

The Pointer Café is definitely worth a stop in historic Mineral Point. The pointer burger is enough food for a day. To bad the miners of yesterday had to settle for pasty. My burger was very tasty and prepared to perfection. Add that to small town prices and you have a delicious culinary experience. The cafe is of ample size and clean. Be Aware this place might make good food, I don't know because we left after 15 minutes of sitting at a table and waiting for service. When we entered we didn't get a hello good evening, nothing. All they did is stare at us unapologetically like we were wearing Biden t shirts in a Trump Parade. We sat at the table and waited patiently. As 4 waitresses/cook stood around we were wondering if we were suppose to scan the menu or see it on a neon sign- finally someone walked over and place 4 menus on the table and walked away. On a scale of friendliness I am afraid they have fallen in the negative category. There was a table of older men to our right who turned their chairs to stare at us a bit more - they must have been friendly because a waitress sat down and started talking to them. Nothing fancy but very good food. I had the coconut shrimp platter. It was prepared very well and no complaints about the portions. The young waitress was very prompt and organized. We were part of a party of 12. She did an excellent job of serving the group. She was busy but maintained an excellent attitude throughout the meal. Try the pecan pie for dessert. read more

The food was decent but not great by any means. I had a hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and peas. The peas were from a can but the rest was good. My wife had a reuben and fries and said it was "eh", and my daughter had a hot dog and fries which she seemed to enjoy. My biggest complaint was the table next to us. The cafe is halfway between Madison, WI and Dubuque, IA so I met my mother there monthly for lunch. The food is excellent and inexpensive. The staff is friendly and fun. They treat you like you're an old friend and they're thrilled to see you. It's a very quaint atmosphere with a lot of antiques to view while you eat. read more

We stopped by for lunch. My son ordered a kid's pizza and I ordered a tuna melt. There were only a few people in the restaurant, but the service was super slow. The tuna was loaded with mayo. I ended up scrapping it off and just eating the bread with cheese. My son's pizza came on a tiny Spider-Man plate. As a ten year old, he was flabbergasted. The waitress was completely pre-occupied with everything but the customers. When it came time to pay, I attempted to use a credit card.
