Besides that, the service I've received on my 1989 Ford F250 has been nothing short of terrible. I had my truck towed there over 2 months ago and despite repeated calls to check in, it remains parked out back without being worked on. They did attempt to start it apparently but that's as far as things went. I've been assured that "the guys will get to it" Or "we're waiting on parts" but still it sits. I hate to think that it is not being worked on because it's an older vehicle but I have no doubt plenty of other vehicles have come and gone while my truck sits parked and forgotten. Once I find another mechanic in Gold Beach the truck will be towed again to someone who will give it (and me) a little respect.

The quote included rear and front brake calipers and rear and front rotors which we needed neither. What we expected to be a 400.00 or so brake job would've been $1472 If we did not see this on the quote. They certainly did not tell us that that's what they planned to do. Beware! They also stated that they require calipers to be done with every brake job which is completely ridiculous. calipers last 100,000 to 150,000 miles or more! In a small town that is mostly a senior community, this is sure a good way for them to take advantage of us! Always ask for a quote first and read it carefully! Do your research and do not believe them when they tell you that you need things that you're not asking for.

On our final day, while dealing with a broken Tesla charging station in Crescent City, I discovered a bolt in my tire with pressure down to 26 psi. I was already exhausted and nervous about the long drive home. After being turned away by two other local shops due to long waits, they referred me to this team. From the moment I called, they were incredibly accommodating and got me in immediately. They spent nearly two hours attempting to repair the tire, but ultimately--out of an abundance of caution for our long drive back--they didn't feel confident the repair would hold for the full trip to Portland. Because they couldn't guarantee a safe repair, they didn't even charge me for their time. Thanks to their honesty and care, I was able to make it back to Portland safely. If I were a local, this would be my go-to shop. Thank you so much for the exceptional service--if you're in the area and need help, look no further!

The vehicle had lost compression on three of four cylinders, with the fourth apparently only at 30%. It needed serious work, but at 300K miles, that wasn't a big surprise despite us being very diligent in keeping her maintained. The owner refused to discuss options for us, implying that we were fools for even thinking of having her fixed ("the cost far outweighs the vehicle's value" was his exact quote), and then refused to give us service. We had towed her to this "great place" at the cost of almost $400 for nothing. He didn't suggest another mechanic or garage; he didn't provide any more information than that I listed above about her compression; and his attitude was condescending and grumpy. It was clear we were wasting his precious time. He implied that, because of the age of the vehicle--30 years--that finding parts were going to be next to impossible. It was the scrap heap for our car, that's it, now get it off of my lot. We went home and called a familiar mechanic in Brookings, who located the needed parts within a day, then provided us a detailed quote via email (PDF) on repair costs and time needed to get the job done. That mechanic didn't judge us for wanting to repair our vehicle instead of throwing her away; he treated us with respect and consideration. Today we had her towed all the way down there for an additional ungodly sum. There are some of us who refuse to engage with consumer culture, buy the latest, when it breaks toss it away, always upgrade, spend, spend, spend, go in debt, and destroy the world in the process. Some of us don't believe in planned obsolescence, and fight it daily whenever and however we can. South Coast Tire and Auto ... clean business? Sure. Good rep? Given. Willing to help? Not so much. Willing to list options? Nope. Judgy? You bet. Though we live in Port Orford, and they are much closer to Brookings, we'll have our girl serviced in Brookings. They actually care.
