I've used Hartwick several times now for oil changes and they do a good job. They are quick and efficient and take time to listen to you. The owner is a sweetheart. Don't know her name yet but good people. I've had my 2020 Ram in several times for oil and filter changes. I recommend them. We're in Brookings on vacation and our truck started making noise. We went to Hartwick Automotive to troubleshoot it; we wanted to know if we could drive home safely. They diagnosed it in the spot, and fit us in right away since we were scheduled to leave the following day. They had the part and got right on it. We were trying to figure out how to get back to our hotel, and Evette offered to drop us off, and pick us back up when they were done. ACTUAL ADDRESS IS 845 RAILROAD STREET. I called in for an oil change an hour before closing and they were so welcoming and willing to squeeze me in. I have a unique vehicle that requires a special filter and oil and they were ready for me. The customer service is unmatchable. The women at the front desk deserves a raise for her speedy responses and working with me so efficiently and kindly. FASTER THAN VALVOLINE I just came for the oil change, but I witnessed another older women needing major repairs and the employees were so kind to her offering her anything she needed and just being so wholesome and genuine. I was recommended to come here by a friend vs. valvoline (who had left her oil cap off spewing oil all over her engine) and I would tell any of my friends to come here instead of any where else in crescent city / brookings area too. read more

My check engine light came on and a code reader said misfire in cylinder 1. I called Hartwick's which came highly regarded. I explained clearly that it is a motor coach van, on a 2016 ram 3500 chassis. they looked up the VIN number and got an estimate from Ian for new spark plugs and set a date 3 weeks out for an appointment. I took it in this morning at my scheduled time, Ian came out and looked in the engine compartment and decides 'he doesn't want to work on it.' I told them clearly that it was a camper van, (Travato), and they had already ordered the parts and I had been waiting about a month for the appointment. you won't believe this....but his exact quote was ' I have a prerogative as to what vehicles I work on, and this is a bad design and a pain in the ass to work on' so I am declining to do the work. I am devastated as I had already postponed a trip while waiting for this repair appointment. I will Never take any other of my vehicles to HARTWICKS. extremely disappointed. read more

After first stopping by a national franchise oil change place -- I'm not naming names, but it starts with a "V" -- where they wanted to charge me a mind-blowing $111-and-change -- I decided to stop by one of the local auto parts stores to look into borrowing tools and an oil pan to do the work myself. The guys there recommended Hartwick, even instructing me how to get there from the V-place, about two blocks away. Props to Hartwick for a few things: First, Yvette, who is one of those super-industrious people, always with five plates spinning at all times. She's very amiable, talking about her kids and 1967 Camaro RS's and inputting your information in the computer and answering the phone and saying hello to an old friend who stopped by..... Second, the reasonable price, which was almost exactly $40 less than the V-place. (And the service at Hartwick includes topping off fluids and checking tire pressure.) And finally, Bryant, who takes pride in doing the job right. He told me that he likes being the oil-change guy because he knows that every oil change will be done correctly...the right type of oil, the right grade, the right quantity. etc. He doesn't mess around...like Yvette, he's there to work...and he, too, is personable. Ian is a very honest person and a good, solid mechanic. Patient, easy to talk to. They now have a newer place in downtown Brookings. Ian has handled all of my car repairs for 6 years and he calmly and respectfully will tell you exactly what the issue is. No b.s. He's just great and efficient. I went here on Monday to personally schedule a service appointment for 9AM Tue. When I get there, the doors were locked but 3 guys inside. Sign says they open at 8AM so I knocked on the window, the owner said he had a phone call and would be right with me. 10 minutes later, he is off the phone so I told him I am waiting after he told me he would be right with me. He got all upset and said he was only one there. I reminded him I had a 9AM appointment. he told me he would be right with me not 10 minutes to stand around and wait on him again when I had already. He threatened to throw me out. He is a whiner and said he was the only one there since their normal front desk guy left. He should have made him stay. These problems are not mine since he runs his business. He walked out the front door and told me to get the fxxxck out of here. What an attitude with the owner. He is whining about his own in adequacies. Stay away from this place, This guy does not care about his customers, only himself. read more

While visiting Brookings my Jeep wrangler's brakes starting making a loud grinding sound. I drove it to Les Swab to see if they could fix it. After inspecting the brakes they recommended I take it to Hartwick Automotive because they could not perform that kind of service. The next day I brought the Jeep over to their shop so they could inspect the problem and hopefully fix it in a timely manner for I had reservations up the coast in two days. A few hours later I received a call and was told that my brake calipers and rotors needed to be replaced and that they could have it fixed by the end of the day. By 5, I was on my way again. How often is getting an auto repair job a pleasant experience?! Well, the team at Hartwick really bailed us out and made it a pleasant experience. My wife and I were on a road trip in our little RV when a road hazard severely damaged the heat shield between the tailpipe and the fresh water tanks; this is not a part that someone keeps in stock. After talking to two other shops in the area we found Hartwick. They took off the heat shield, welded up the broken part and cracked areas and got us back on the road in about an hour! And the price was very reasonable.
