Horrible experience with Point Loma Locks today! Over the last 7 years, every so often when one of my clients needs a locksmith, I've recommended Point Loma Lock, mostly because they are local. Never again. Today, one of my client's guests locked themselves out of the house. My client is out of town so she called me to handle. I was unable to find a way in. I called Point Loma Lock, who I had not personally met previously. The man who answered said they had to talk to the owner of the house first. No problem. I had her call him. She called me back and said he was rude and refused to come out. I thought maybe there was a misunderstanding. I called him back and he said he was too busy. When I started to ask him why he would treat my customer so rudely, he literally hung up on my mid-sentence. I ended up calling Key Korner which I've used to duplicate keys and they agreed to come right out. Point Loma Locks will not be getting any recommendations from me in the future. read more

We bought a house and were advised that it's always a good idea to get the locks/keys changed. We kept putting it off because we thought it'd be a pain. I bookmarked this place a while ago and finally got around to calling yesterday, and to my surprise, the owner offered to come out immediately. He gave me a clear quote over the phone and was over in 5 minutes as promised. We had three door locks and one gate rekeyed and got 7 keys including 3 Baldwin keys. Total with tax was just under $70, which we thought was fair. And the best part - it only took him about 30 minutes. Oh - and he recycles old keys so we gave him our old keys as well as a few others we don't know what they open anymore. I love supporting a local business. The owner said that he's been in Point Loma over 20 years! I've used this guy 3 times now to fix different lock issues around my house. First time he re-keyed my sliding glass door so it matched my front door. Next time he completed installation of a new front door handle that a painter had installed improperly. The last time he was here he replaced a part in an old garage door lock so that it would open and close again. A few years back I paid a handy man to install new door handles in my home, it took him a ridiculous amount of time to do it, I should have called Point Loma lock. Seriously, door handles and locks are hard for people, but not for this guy. If you need something done with a lock this guy will do it. Each time he has shown up super fast and gets the job done. He's awesome. He's a professional at what he does. His phone demeanor may not be the best ever, but in person he is great. read more

Needed a couple keys ... this was cheap, fast, friendly ... way easier than going somewhere like Home Depot. And I'd rather go to a small independent business. As far as I can tell this is owner-operated and a lot of his business comes from mobile locksmithing -- first time I went, he was out and about. Parking: if no street parking is available you can park in area in front of store. You can drive over small lip of a curb. This space looks like the "front yard" of the shop. Best locksmith in San Diego. Home Depot and others mess up duplication of keys that this guy duplicates perfectly every time. Originally from Korea, this guy knows what he's doing. Will only come here for my locksmith needs. Especially boat keys! I arrived here one time only to find he wasn't in. He was off doing a project. Our epic and long journey of getting key copies made came to an end today. It all began three fortnights ago amidst The Niño reign of rain. Dark times as the Quieter Homes Program of San Diego's army battled the forces to replace our windows and doors. Once the rain and sawdust settled- we came out victorious. Or so we thought. Two house keys and three roommates. As the shaman of mendo, I offered my key to my fellow brethren. Wherein the true journey began. Our knight, Sir Billy (also known as Paul) and I traveled far and wide in search of the one true locksmith. We had no idea how arduous the journey would become. First we crossed the Loma Portal wherein we came upon Home Depot. Just as Sir Billy unsheathed his key we were sent away as the key guy opened his jaws and politely told us he was out of base keys. Just as we made it out- rush hour hit and we had no choice but to retreat to mendo in order to save our sanity. Empty handed. The second leg in our journey sort of fell in our laps just before we crossed into the Coves of La Jolla. There it was! Ace Hardware! Alas, some luck! We had the shining key copied and were on our way. We completed our mission and returned to the gates of mendo wherein we slid the new key into it's keeper and it did not turn. Another failed attempt. As we built up our strength over a short time, Sir Billy had an epiphany and we quickly journeyed down to the Beaches of Ocean- commonly known as Ocean Beach. "I've never had the guys on Newport fail me!" We waltzed into our old ally's palace, OB Hardware and got double copies! Rejoice! Our haste proved detrimental- no luck yet again.. The key wouldn't turn. A hex perhaps. As we sat in our kingdom, beaten and weathered, we decided to walk to Yee Old 711 for some cold ale. We trekked on foot. Which proved us all the more well. You see, hidden somehow on the beaten path just steps from our own front door is a locksmith. Our own neighbor. Composed and disinterested in our adventurous spirits he excused us to get our six pack and went to work. So our journey ends. This kindred soul dropped the weird shaped keys on the counter and just as soon as he appeared, he vanished into the storeroom shadows. Our keys glistening as they turned the locks. VICTORY!! I first met Yodi and green feathered friend, when he was new in the Point back in the 80's. The first test was to re-key the Point Loma Little League as every Coach, Team Mom, etc..had keys to our little Snack Shack :). Next, we introduced him to our Portuguese Community, and pretty soon, every Public building our Community was involved with was rekeyed at some point or other. I just called Yodi at Point Loma Lock to fix my front door lock. He came out within 15 minutes, took the whole lock apart, fixed the interior parts as they had gotten bent and a portion of the installed parts from the factory had been put in backwards.
