My fiancé and I (both native Texans) recently relocated to Oregon. Knowing we were not going to have authentic Texas BBQ for a very long time, we decided to stop at Pody's for a late lunch before we officially left Texas. We didn't realize they usually sell out at lunch. Lucky for us they had just enough for a couple of plates of brisket, sausage, beans, potato salad, bread, pickles & onions. The ladies there were SO nice!!! We took our plates to go (along with a couple of servings of their banana pudding), went to a park, and devoured our food. Pody's is REAL Texas BBQ. It was fan-freakin-tastic. There isn't a whole lot in Pecos but Pody's is definitely worth stopping for. read more

Excellent barbeque. Not advisable if you have heart problems but the brisket and sausage was great and the iced tea was also excellent.

They have good brisket and a different side I've never had before - jalapeño cheese hominy. I say it's worth the stop.

Its a notch above your average hole in the wall BBQ shop. I mean it has to be in order for it to be rated among the top 50 shops in Texas by Texas Monthly right. I got the sliced brisket and sausage. I also watched as they unwrapped the tinfoil off the brisket which shows just how fresh it really is. Cedar plank walls, old signs, etc. Big thumbs up!!!! read more

On my way back to Dallas I saw this place had 5 stars and that rare. I tried this place for my self and I was very pleased. The ribs and brisket is off the chain. Try the hot bar b q sauce too is you like eating spicy. There is a bell and the sign says ring the bell if your satisfied. A top quality dining experience in the Old Western tradition. Pody's uses a variety of woods to create a mouthwatering experience whether it is from the perfectly smoked brisket to pork ribs which simply fall off the bone. The taste leaves you in awe. Pulled pork is something he has added over the past year and is tender and moist. The chicken breast is moist not dry like most BBQ joints. You also have a traditional homemade BBQ sauce in either regular or HOT which enhances the experience. This restaurant has been featured as one of the best "BBQ joints in the world" by Texas Monthly. Stoped by on our way to CO from Houston because of their Top 50 standing and we are very happy we did! They were out of brisket, so we ordered the 3 meat plate with sausage, ribs and turkey, but were lucky enough to get a courtesy sampling of some brisket they had stashed...they even gave our 10 month old a banana pudding cup on the way out! Awesome. Was in town for work from Houston and a buddy told me about this place. I have had a lot of BBQ and this place is a top 5 all time in my book. Friendly staff --- gave me a free piece of smoked burger to try and it was delish. Excellent BBQ. They are only open for lunch so don't go late. I got the 2 meat plate and it was plenty of food. The place is always busy so that should tell you something. The tea was also good, but be aware no fountain drinks or waiters, this is self serve and they call your number. read more

This was a last minute jump off the freeway to get some BBQ dinner while in Texas on our cross country move and we are so glad we stopped into Pody's! We saw some trucks outside the restaurant and stopped--two hours after their closing time.They welcomed us in and fed us some of the best brisket I have had ever. I am no stranger to good Texas barbeque. I have been to every one of the top rated barbeque restaurants in the state. Went in a few weeks ago while visiting the grand folks in Pecos and got top notch service and food from Pody and his wife. Both the point and flat ends of the brisket were very moist and had good flavor. The rib (which he just gave me while waiting) was also very tender and tasty. I only got Mac for my side and that certainly did not disappoint. Pody showed me his pits and even gave me a signed copy of the 2013 Tx Mthly Top 50. We stumbled into Peco's and had such a good time at Pody's-it was affordable, comfortable, and the Green Chile Hominy side dish was the best side dish at a BBQ joint I've ever had. We also met Pody and Veronica - the two pitmasters - who gave us huge sample portions and were super friendly. It was a badass experience! Highly recommend. BEST FOOD IN PECOS! The best brisket, ribs, and smoked turkey I've ever had. I've tried different styles of BBQ before, and eaten at some of the famous chains such as Rib Crib dozens of times. But that comes NOWHERE close to this BBQ! I was shocked at how good the meat is. The brisket and all the other meat was the best I've EVER tasted. Worth a drive to check this place out no doubt. I stopped here after seeing it was rated top 50 for bbq by Texas Monthly. I went with sliced brisket, sausage, mac and cheese and the green beans. First of all I can tell you is to stay away from the sausage, it reminded me of store bought Hillshire Farms sausage. The meat was ground way to fine, it was almost like mush when chewing it and it also was flavorless. The green beans and mac and cheese were on par. Now the brisket was by far the best part of the meal. It had great bark, seasoned real well with salt and pepper. It was fork tender and I couldn't get enough of it. It was one of the best briskets I have ever had. I have been to the top 5 bbq places in Texas, so it's in good company. I read a few other reviews that mentioned the bbq sauce being really hot, well I don't know what those people were talking about. It had a good amount of pepper, but by no means was it hot. Next time I am in Pecos I will eat there, heck maybe I will buy a whole brisket! read more
