Clean facility, real Mexican seasoning, great service. Definitely will stop again. Huevos Rancheros

Taken in 2011, before the remodel project, but the food is always to rave about, then or now.

Cocina Salgado is very consistent in serving up delicious Mexican food. Over the last 5 years I've eaten there dozens of times and I've never been disappointed. It's a favorite with my co-workers. But go early (11:40) or show up later (1:00) to avoid the lunch backlog on the kitchen. At lunch service can be a bit slow, but hey, you can't get fantastic Mexican food out of a can! It's worth any wait. My favorite: the Asado plate. Square chunks of pork cooked in a spicy red sauce that would make you slap your grandma if she tried to eat off your plate. A bit pricey at $12.95 for a lunch plate, but it is excellent. As usual, it comes with rice, beans and two hot tortillas. Eat all you can. Of all the restaurants in town, for lunch, it is my #1 pick.

Cute little orange building...clean and friendly people inside. Menu is minimal, but a good variety of choices. Open from 6am-2pm no need in making the menu complicated.....I ordered the Nacho Salad. The taco meat was phenomenal and the beans were well seasoned and flavorful (I don't always like beans)....the salad toppings were fresh the lettuce was crisp cold and good, the tomatoes freshly diced and good as well. The cheese real and freshly grated and not pre packaged shedded cheese.....salsa was on the spicy side for a Yankee like me, but it didn't stop me from wanting it! Would definately go back!

Wow! Best Tex-Mex I've had in a long time. Enchiladas with Green Chile were outstanding. Crispy tacos, everything tastes homemade. Don't miss it!

Awesome green chilaquiles with side of chile verde con carne! Spicy and addictive -- always freshly made!

Food was great, service was great. Had the Huevos Divorciados...they were very good. The asado and chili verse were the best I have had.

What a great place for tamales!…read more The outside of the building looks like a strange place to have such a wonderful restaurant. But inside it's clean, smells delicious, and has very friendly staff. The tamales and bowls were delicious! This is a hidden gem that is worth the stop or drive.

17 years ago on our road trip and not much around, we happened upon La Nortena Tamale Factory in…read morethe blink of an eye and you've passed it town of Pecos Texas. Fast forward to Instagram, Yelp, social influencers and now this tamale factory and city are even more well known and loved. So with another road trip from Las Vegas to San Antonio we had to stop here and get some tamales. I have a few tips for you. They are closed on Mondays and if I'm not mistaken most days they are closed by 2 or 3 PM. Their website to pre-order is great. I ordered the night before to make sure my tamales were available. We were staying in Carlsbad, New Mexico and the drive time is an hour and 30 minutes. I totally forgot about the time change switching states. I called La Nortena as I started my drive and requested they changed my pick up time for an hour later than I had originally requested. They were so accommodating and helpful. I love that they open super early because we were on the road and there by 10am Texas time. We decided to walk in to pick up our order. They have an order line and a pick up line but there was only one girl manning the order line. It went pretty quick and they got our stuff really fast. They do not offer any bathrooms as this is just a pick up and go so if you're traveling you'll have to find somewhere else. The tamales were as delicious as I remembered them. The masa isn't super thin and isn't super thick. This isn't your regular masa. You can literally see the love that went into them making this masa special. I pre-ordered the mix dozen which comes with half green and half red. If you prefer more or less or another type of tamale they offer (others aren't always available) then just place the request in the comments box of your order. Both red and green are a bit spicy, moist and have awesome flavor. This was our breakfast and they were piping hot. I could barely hold them to hand them to my son in the backseat. I love that they were so hot. Delicious and my son said that they were the best tamales he had ever eaten. Pecos Texas is not that blink and you pass it kind of town anymore. It's rather cute with artistically painted Texas boots all throughout the city. I love social media because it really shows you all the things that you can find in the city from it having the world's first rodeo to history with Pecos Bill, this is definitely a stop to make and enjoy the city as well as the incredible tamales.

What a great experience!…read more It's a sports bar in west Texas and that's its strength. It caters to those of us here to work and to the locals who appreciate a great place to eat. Seated immediately even during their busiest hours, the service was also very friendly. The steak dinner was well cooked. The sides were a bit lacking, but the steak was good enough to offset that. Overall this is a go to in Pecos

The ambiance was mostly casual with lots of TVs everywhere like a sports bar, but it seemed like it wanted to be fancy with the way the staff was dressed and how they presented their menus. The cost per dish was more upscale seafood. They had some props for "gram worthy" pictures. As we sat down, our waiter brought over chips and salsa for the table and said to the kids "one basket only is free". They looked at us confused because they weren't used to that being the case in Mexican restaurants we go to in Phoenix. We said it was a nice holdover until the food got there. The same thing happened with the drinks though; the kids ordered a soda and it came in cans and the waiter said "no refills". Again, not that big of a deal but they were only saying it to our kids. The people who got water though asked if the water could get refilled and the waitress said it could but didn't seem like she wanted to because only a couple refills were filled during the meal. Some of the food had quick a kick to it, so more water or something to drink would've helped. The food was kind of hit or miss; some people really liked their dishes and some were just okay with what they ordered. If we had come with just adults, maybe we would've had a different experience and ordered different things. Next time we pass through we'll try and stop in again.
