We came here hoping to support a small local business instead of going to a chain, but…read moreunfortunately it turned into a disappointing experience. We arrived at 11:40 AM on a Saturday after a long day of travel the day before. On Google it states they close at 12:00 PM, on Yelp it states 12:30. When we pulled up, the open signs were turned off but the door was unlocked. Before my family even got out of the car, I asked the girl at the counter if they were still open or already closed for the day. She assured me they were open. We ordered two bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast burritos. After placing the order, the employee went to the back to notify the kitchen, and we clearly heard the cook say, "Are you kidding me, bro?" The employee responded, "Nope, I'm being totally serious," in a very annoyed tone. At that point, we felt extremely uncomfortable and told her it was fine and to just cancel the order. She tried to reassure us by saying it was okay, but we explained that it didn't feel right ordering food when it seemed like the staff was upset about having to make something that was still on the menu during posted operating hours. Another employee then came out from the kitchen and seemed even more irritated, saying they had already started making the order. Overall, it created a very awkward and unpleasant experience. We had actually been really excited to try this place because of the great reviews and because we saw the owners were from Thailand, where we honeymooned, which made us even more interested in supporting the business. Many reviews mention how friendly and welcoming the staff is, but unfortunately that wasn't our experience. The two employees we interacted with came across as very rude and dismissive. The food itself was tasty, and the mango smoothie was good as well. However, the uncomfortable experience surrounding the order made it difficult to enjoy, and it ultimately wasn't worth it. As someone who works in customer service/sales, I cannot imagine treating someone the way we were treated.

The burger paddie did not taste like it was frozen and it was massive. I almost finished it. I didn't push any harder bc I felt like my picture wouldn't end up on a wall. What a great place for tamales!…read more The outside of the building looks like a strange place to have such a wonderful restaurant. But inside it's clean, smells delicious, and has very friendly staff. The tamales and bowls were delicious! This is a hidden gem that is worth the stop or drive.

17 years ago on our road trip and not much around, we happened upon La Nortena Tamale Factory in…read morethe blink of an eye and you've passed it town of Pecos Texas. Fast forward to Instagram, Yelp, social influencers and now this tamale factory and city are even more well known and loved. So with another road trip from Las Vegas to San Antonio we had to stop here and get some tamales. I have a few tips for you. They are closed on Mondays and if I'm not mistaken most days they are closed by 2 or 3 PM. Their website to pre-order is great. I ordered the night before to make sure my tamales were available. We were staying in Carlsbad, New Mexico and the drive time is an hour and 30 minutes. I totally forgot about the time change switching states. I called La Nortena as I started my drive and requested they changed my pick up time for an hour later than I had originally requested. They were so accommodating and helpful. I love that they open super early because we were on the road and there by 10am Texas time. We decided to walk in to pick up our order. They have an order line and a pick up line but there was only one girl manning the order line. It went pretty quick and they got our stuff really fast. They do not offer any bathrooms as this is just a pick up and go so if you're traveling you'll have to find somewhere else. The tamales were as delicious as I remembered them. The masa isn't super thin and isn't super thick. This isn't your regular masa. You can literally see the love that went into them making this masa special. I pre-ordered the mix dozen which comes with half green and half red. If you prefer more or less or another type of tamale they offer (others aren't always available) then just place the request in the comments box of your order. Both red and green are a bit spicy, moist and have awesome flavor. This was our breakfast and they were piping hot. I could barely hold them to hand them to my son in the backseat. I love that they were so hot. Delicious and my son said that they were the best tamales he had ever eaten. Pecos Texas is not that blink and you pass it kind of town anymore. It's rather cute with artistically painted Texas boots all throughout the city. I love social media because it really shows you all the things that you can find in the city from it having the world's first rodeo to history with Pecos Bill, this is definitely a stop to make and enjoy the city as well as the incredible tamales.

Congratulations, you just found great Asian food in the middle of the West Texas desert!…read more It's always exciting to see new food options coming to Pecos, and Makan Asian Flavors is a fantastic addition to the West Texas food scene. I came across their advertisement on Facebook and decided to give them a try. They're a fairly new food truck that opened back in February, and let me tell you... they came out swinging! This place is PACKED with flavor! I came for the pork belly, but ended up falling in love with the whole meal. Asian food isn't usually my go-to--I'm normally reaching for Mexican food or good ol' American comfort food. But HOLY COW... this is the place you didn't know you needed! The pork belly was cooked perfectly, the rice was seasoned just right, and the spring rolls were light, crispy, and delicious. And that sweet and spicy sauce? It pairs perfectly with the spring rolls and adds just the right kick. It's a little on the pricier side, but honestly, I'd definitely come back. I'm already looking forward to working my way through the rest of their menu! Give Makan Asian Flavors a try--you might just discover your new favorite spot in Pecos! You won't be disappointed. And one more thing... shout-out to the gentleman who brought our food out to the car. He didn't have to do that, but that little gesture goes a long way. It's that kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back. West Texas, we've got another gem!
