Great food, but very poor customer service from the current manager. One employee was friendly and honored a military discount, which we appreciated. Later, when we ordered to-go, there was confusion about the discount. The manager ultimately did give the military discount, but she was rude and dismissive throughout the interaction and said, "we don't give military discounts," in a harsh tone before reversing it. She did not greet customers or create a welcoming atmosphere, which made the experience uncomfortable. This was especially disappointing because I remember the previous manager, Elsa, who was always incredibly friendly, warm, and welcoming and made every visit enjoyable. We were visiting from Dallas and had looked forward to coming back to this location. The restaurant was very clean, and like many, in COVID-19 orientation. My colleague had a Dude meal and unsweetened tea, I had the grilled chicken sandwich with onion rings, and a Diet Coke. Sadly, we felt most unwelcome in Pecos and this Dairy Queen did nothing to change that feeling. After being ignored at the BBQ joint down the street for 40 minutes, we hit the DQ for some dinner before getting back on the road. Should have been super easy, I mean it's a fast food chain. For the 4 adults & 1 child we ordered a 6-piece chicken strip basket for 2 of the adults to split, a 4-piece steak finger country basket for 1 adult, a grilled chicken sandwich w/no mayo for 1 adult and a kids meal (2 chicken strips, fries, a bottle of water and a cone. Grilled chicken sandwich came slathered in mayo (verified on receipt that it said NO MAYO ) so I took it to the counter to see about getting it remade. The sandwich was snatched away so quickly and aggressively! Woman gave me a dirty look and said she'd bring a new one out. Sure enough it was dropped on our table in a minute. No mayo-yay! But I took one bite and the chicken was so hot that I had to let it fall out of my mouth. I don't know what they did when they remade my sandwich but that little chicken breast was hot as lava. The steak fingers tasted off. My grandson chose a water bottle instead of milk for his kids' meal and instead of a water bottle they gave him a small styrofoam cup. OK, fine - we'll fill it up at the soda dispenser but guess what? There is no option for water. A customer saw me fiddling around with the machine trying to find an option for water and told me there isn't one. What in the ...... I guess in order to get the ice cream that comes with the kid's meal, you have to tear out the little coupon that is part of the bag the food comes in. Would have been nice to know that before throwing the bag in the trash. This is one os the most efficiently run food service establishments in Pecos. They have a line of cars in the drive-thru, and every parking place full, but still serve everyone great food at a reasonable price. Nice place to visit for fast good, but if you order an 8 piece Steak Finger combo, be prepared to request extra gravy and pay an extra $ .75 for said gravy. You have to understand that no Yelper in their right mind would give a fast food restaurant, or a chain restaurant five stars, and I agree. Even with that agreement in place I gotta tell you this place is different. Art on the walls, bathrooms that rival the best hotels, so very clean, my golly, add the china and you might fool people into thinking this was a great restaurant! This easily the best DQ I have been to. They work hard to be fast and still be neighborly. Yes, sometimes a server can be rude, but there is usually a reason. If they keep it up they won't last here. Management won't put up with it. Food is good quality fast food. Of course they stay extremely busy. Which is a good thing,but does occasionally cause little delays or mistakes.
