Pocha K in Newark is a hidden gem for Korean Food and Fun! Instead of going to Gen's Korean BBQ, we decided to celebrate my son's graduation at Pocha K--and we're so glad we did! When we arrived, the restaurant was still closed, but they opened just a few minutes later. Since it was a weekday, we had the whole place to ourselves for nearly an hour. We took the chance to snap some photos in the adorable corner on the right side of the restaurant, decorated with flowers, light-up angel wings, and a fun photo booth backdrop. We were warmly welcomed by Yuri, who was incredibly sweet and accommodating. When she found out we were celebrating a graduation, she surprised us with complimentary drinks--three canned sodas and a bottle of soju. Such a thoughtful gesture! Ordering was a breeze with the tablet on our table. We tried a variety of dishes, and everything was delicious and reasonably priced. I asked about the karaoke room, and since it was a quiet day, Yuri generously offered it to us free of charge for an hour (normally it's $100/hour on busy days, not consumable). The room was huge, the sound system was great, and they had a solid selection of up-to-date songs. It was the perfect way to cap off our celebration. I'll definitely be coming back--great food, great service, and a fun vibe all around! Tip: I prefer the Boneless Chicken with the Soy Garlic Sauce on the side so the chicken stays crispy longer. Also the Beef Bulgogi is perfectly seasoned and not too sweet, just the way I like it.
Okay, so I was hosted twice at this location in their karaoke room! I'm super grateful for the experience and the opportunities to celebrate both mines and my husband's bdays here this year. The main restaurant is decorated nicely, and gives off a slight club vibe, while the karaoke room is just okay. Walls are black and the lighting is decent. I loved when we dimmed the lighting as it made it feel just like the outside of the room, and a club lounge theme. Service is just okay. The communication is a little difficult as both times the waiter I had didn't speak good English. The food is also a little slow to come out. Prices are very expensive, because portion sizes are small. You have to spend more than $150 to feel full at this place. The food tastes okay, i unfortunately don't like their fried chicken as it always tastes like fish. Would I come back again, sure , but to hang out and not so much gorge on food.
3.5/5. I enjoyed dining here! The ambiance was fun and the place was nicely decorated. I especially liked the use of soju bottle caps as part of the decor. They played K-pop music and even had a photo booth at the front. I heard they also have karaoke rooms, which makes it a great spot for group hangouts. Once you're seated, you'll place your order through a tablet. There's not much interaction with the server. The food portions were on the larger side. We ordered their signature fried chicken with soy garlic sauce on the side. Just a heads-up - they only offer boneless chicken. I wish there was an option for bone-in. The soy garlic sauce was just okay for me. It leaned a bit too sweet, and I didn't get much of the garlic flavor. The corn cheese, a classic favorite, was good but came out last. I'd highly recommend the rose tteokbokki. It was my favorite dish of the night! The rice cakes were perfectly chewy and the sauce was delicious.
Pocha K is always a good time. We always come close to their opening hours, when it is the emptiest. I believe it gets a bit rowdier at night, which is to be expected since it's more of a "late-night drunchies" type of vibe. I love the decorations and lights, and how each table has a little buzzer to call the waiter. My favorite tteokbokki of all time is from here! Something about the chewy texture of the rice cakes paired with the incredible sauce is making my mouth water. Usually I feel that the sauce of tteokbokki is on the sweeter side, but here it seems to be perfectly more balanced. I like to add cheese to it and sometimes ramyun. The kimchi fried rice is also to die for, with seaweed surrounding the perimeter of the dish and a fried egg on top. Other than those 2 dishes, you also can't go wrong with the pork belly, boneless fried chicken, or corn cheese. Order a bottle of soju while you're at it!
It feels like a pretty decent Korean restaurant. Although it's not my favorite Korean hot pot or Korean barbecue, their kimchi fried rice tastes okay. However, the beef offal and pork felt quite tough; the texture they aimed for might have been crisp, but the result was just really hard. Overall, there weren't many people when I visited, so there was no waiting in line. The restaurant is quite clean, and the ambiance inside is nice, perfect for social media enthusiasts to take photos. As for the service quality, nothing particularly stood out; it was just average.
Upon walking in, the decor captures your eyes. There's a Photo Booth on the right, the iconic angel wings in Pride colors, and the dining area was also nicely decorated. Every table has a tablet that you order through. There weren't a lot of options in general and only about 3 items for vegetarians. I ordered the corn cheese and egg fried rice. They were both decent but both felt like something was lacking. We got a peach makgeolli to share and though it was tasty, we couldn't taste nor feel the alcohol. It could pass well for juice. I'd come back but as a vegetarian, I've tried everything they gave to offer so hopefully they'll consider adding more items.
I come here every so often to share corn cheese and katsu with a friend but my most recent visit was the first time I've come with more than 1 other person. Sunday evening around 6PM was pretty good timing for our party of 6 - there was only one other group in the restaurant. They've got dim overhead lighting offset by string lights and the like on trellis-style dividing walls. Ordering is done through a tablet at your table and they bring the bill to you at the end. Gratuity was included for our party and service is pretty average (you might have to personally request water container refills). We got two of the so-maek towers (strawberry was good) and a few bottles of soju after those were finished and felt those were more than enough. The Korean fried chicken, although boneless, was fried very well and very sweet from the honey. Their corn cheese is also particularly sweet but is actually pretty flavorful compared to other ones I've tried. Kimchi fried rice and pork belly were adequate, although the pork belly was definitely on the saltier side. Solid spot for a friends and food.
Came here with some friends and we love how clean it is ! The food is super fresh and the service is amazing! Will definitely come back !
I am writing this in complete shock right now. I went here for a late night snack two weeks ago. I ordered there combo which on the screen says $19.99. It was super average to taste and I really didn't get why they were charging so much for it but that's not even the point. I get the bill and the total then suddenly jumped to 27 something. I saw that they are charging 24.99 for that combo that just has two kinds of fries, some very bad dumplings and rolls. I tried to get it corrected and the cashier said he can't help with that and asked me to call again to get my refund. I unwillingly pay as his manager is also not present and he acts as if nothing is in his hands. Cut to two days later when I get an email from Capitol one that they charged me not once but twice for the same transaction. I have been trying to call them for two weeks now and they won't pick up either so now I am writing this review hoping they correct their mistake!
Kimchi fried rice 4/5 - this was okay but I think I can make better kimchi fried rice at home. There wasn't much pork in here. Rice was a little too wet for me. Cheese katsu 2/5 - I thought there would be some pork in here too and not just cheese. It was way too much cheese. If they just wrap the cheese around the pork and then fry it, I think it would be better. We came here on a Wednesday night since nothing else was open. Only one other table was filled. Workers stayed in the back of the kitchen
Pretty good and spacious pocha place in Newark! They have self ordered iPads, where you can ring up service or order more water and the bill! Food wise, they have all your standard Korean bar bites plus beer towers and soju. They even have a corner for the photo booth. In terms of food, we were big group and ordered a lot of different food to try. I highly recommend the ramen and corn cheese!
Okay look, I'll give credit to Pocha K... they know spice. Almost everything we've had was basically drenched in some type of spice that left my throat hurting and my need for water grew tenfold. But if that's your vibe, then I get why'd you be interested. My group and I were coming here after an exciting night at Glowfari and we had called ahead of time to make a reservation due to being a large party, but I don't think it was necessarily needed as there was still plenty of space inside the restaurant. You get seated, order via the tablet, and then wait for your food. If you follow them on Instagram and tag them in a story then you'll get a free soda. I left the ordering to my family, but I did enjoy the dishes that were ordered. Their kimchi fried rice was very good as was their cold tofu and cheese corn. There was one clam soup that my group ordered that I didn't like - it tasted nothing like clams and only of peppers, but my brother really enjoyed it so to each their own. Service was pretty quick on a Saturday night, too. The food came out fast and piping hot. Water was refilled, utensils were replaced, I mean, despite the big tables around us, the service was on point. Located in a plaza so parking is abundant and free. I did notice that one guy brought their dog into the restaurant, though, and while I am a dog lover myself, I wouldn't want them in here while I ate.
Came here twice, once with my daughter and recently for my 51st bday dinner with good friends, and we were pleasantly entertained!!!! We ordered: kimchi fried rice Corn cheese Japchae Pocha Rosé Tteokbokki Bulgogi Spicy garlic chicken (i try not to eat chicken) Soju Since it was my birthday, we had two hours free inside the karaoke lounge. Very worthy of social media photo ops, friendly servers, super laid back vibe. I recommend!!!

Good food, nice place, nice server. The decor is cute. The food is a bit expensive but maybe that's just what things cost nowadays. The "kimbob" is great. read more
Love the ambiance of this place. Their menu isn't very large so it should be fairly easy to decide what you want to order. The cool thing about this place is that they're open till 12am most days and 1am Friday and Saturday, so it's great for late night eating and drinking with a medium sized group. I'd 100% recommend their spicy garlic boneless chicken wings and cheese corn! The boneless chicken is made from chicken thighs, so they're extremely tender and juicy! The sauce is great, and yet, still maintains a good crispy crunch! I will say, they could probably lighten up on the amount of sauce they put on it though because it's a bit much sometimes. Also, it's not really spicy at all, which personally I prefer. Also, they must have a lot of chicken prepared in the back because this was always brought out super quickly. We loved the chicken so much that we ordered a second batch after we finished the first one! The cheese corn was amazing because they actually loaded on the cheese. A lot of Korean places I've been to tend to lack on the cheesiness that I want, but not here. We also ordered the pork belly, which was honestly underwhelming... They give you a decent amount portion-wise fortunately, but I don't think it's a must get item to order unless they add flavor to it or something. Other than some of the food being underwhelming, part of the reason for the 4-star was because service was hard to get sometimes. They have the call button at each table to call for service, but multiple times, we'd have to hit the button 3-5 times before someone would finally come, so that was disappointing. Anyway, their decor is beautiful and totally going for those Instagram vibes, so I feel like word will spread soon for others to hit this spot up. read more

Newly opened bar setting Korean place in Newark! They just opened a few weeks ago. Funnily enough, I'd come across the Yelp page for the Santa Clara location before but have never been. My friends and I were looking for a place to eat that closed past 10pm and found Pocha K. They close at midnight! Club scene vibes but more of a karaoke lounge feel. I like it! The front waiting area is a fantastic photo op with the hanging floral wall and rainbow Angel wing decor. The Korean music is loud and the place is dim but overall a nice place to clink mini soju glasses and indulge in corn cheese pull + saucy boneless chicken. It was about half full on Thursday night and the manager(?) kindly directed us to choose a table. We sat at the 4 person picnic style bench next to the "bar" where we could take in all the lights strung up like waterfalls. Scan the code on the table to see the menu. Check in on Yelp for a free drink! I was able to get a bottle of Soon Hari peach soju at no cost. Staff is polite and there's a buzzer at each table to call them over. Very convenient instead of waving over anyone far away. Our chilled water carafe was replaced frequently. Eats: *Corn Cheese *Spicy Garlic Boneless Chicken *Cheese Katsu Cutlet (pork) *Fishcake Soup The soup arrived first and was bubbling hot. Specify if you don't want spicy because this was automatically mild/almost medium. Lots of fishcake, less in broth. The boneless fried chicken was definitely not spicy after that. The chicken was crispy and sweetly saucy. Yum. Comes with cubed daikon and shredded cabbage with a mayo based dressing. Corn cheese had that gooey pull! Mozzarella goodness. Cheese katsu cutlet pieces were huge! For some reason, I expected this to be a sandwich lol. Large half cuts of panko breaded pork with melted slabs of cheese in the middle. Food was good, ambiance great. Nice to head over here after work to chill with friends. The garlic boneless chicken was probably the best thing we ate. I found it amusing the music changed from dance/K-pop to more soulful Korean karaoke tunes toward the end of the meal. read more

New Pocha K location in Newark! The vibes and inside of the resturant was very nice. I loved the string lights. Definitely pocha vibes. The service was pretty good. They have the buttons on the side of the table - and they typically come pretty fast. Food came out really quickly. I did ask for another set of utensils and I had to ask 3 separate times for the chopsticks, plate and napkins. Food was ok. Nothing too crazy. My friends said the chicken in the Santa Clara location was more crispy. It was decent but nothing rlly great. read more

Ambiance - definitely a cute place Service - one person running the place until someone else shows up an hour later after opening. Food - well, this is the reason it didn't get a lot of stars. Food came out Luke warm, especially the kimchi fried rice which should be crispy but it wasn't at all. Even the egg was only warm. Consider serving on a hot plate or something better. The rose tteokbokki was decent, but Luke warm, it felt like it came right out of a freezer bag and warmed up. The deep fried tonkatsu was a 20 minute wait, it was super hot, the cheese was melting but it was weirdly hard afterwards, really quickly. Let's just say I took 1/2 a bite of one. It was expensive and not good. I did like the pork belly the most but it's not that special in terms of seasoning. It came out hot and crispy because it was on a hot plate. I had considered hosting a party here but the food didn't do it for me. Just being honest. read more

Made a reservation for 20 people about a couple weeks in advance for a Friday night. All you had to do was make a phone call, very efficient. When our party showed up, they had the table set up and ready to go. Super busy, packed restaurant, yet the servers were quick and accurate with all our orders. It is decorated beautifully, lots of greenery, lights, it has a romantic and chill ambiance. There's a flower wall and neon angel wings for pictures! This is the perfect place for a date, casual hangout, or laidback celebration! Their spicy fried chicken is sooo good, it's not that spicy, more saucy and flavor than the original. Their kimchi fried was spicy, lot of people enjoyed it! Thank you for accommodating such a large party. You did an amazing job and look forward to coming back! read more

Pocha K Newark is finally open for their soft opening! They don't have any special deals during this time period. The interior is soooo cute. I actually like the space a lot better than their counterpart in Santa Clara. They also have a bar section as well. The menu looks almost the same if not very similar to the Santa Clara one. We ended up ordering: Pocha Fries, Corn Cheese & Pork Belly! They were so nice and let us taste their kimchi fried rice for feedback. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of these. I'd rank it: Corn Cheese, Kimchi Fried Rice, Pocha Fries & Pork Belly The corn cheese was soo soo good. It's definitely one of my fav dishes. I love how it's not oily and the cheese pulls on it we're amazing! The kimchi fried rice was a bit spicy. I have a low spice tolerance so it's probably not spicy for most people. This + the corn cheese mixed so well. Pocha Fries: I've never seen hot Cheetos get mixed w/ fries. The "spiciness" of the hot Cheetos get cancelled out by the cheese and toppings of the fries. All it does is really add a nice crunch. This portion was huge and I highly recommend as an appetizer for larger parties (maybe 4-5 people). Pork belly wasn't overly fatty and was also ok. I just don't prefer eating that much meat on its own. They do give a good portion of meat. The service was good & food came out pretty fast! The only thing is I wished they had seafood pancake but that's pretty minor. Their prices are a bit on the pricier side but other than that, it's definitely a fun place to hang out with friends :) read more

Had a lovely experience here! I've been to the Santa Clara location more times than I'd like to admit, so I was so excited to hear that they were opening a Pocha K closer to where I live! 10/10 for the ambience and interior decor. This space is much bigger than their SC location, and is decorated so cutely inside. The bar area is huge, and the tables are separated by pretty garlands and fairy lights that gives each party some privacy, but doesn't completely block them off from other patrons. Love that they have a huge TV playing kpop music videos that's fun to watch. Very impressed with the food, tastes exactly like their other location and service is very fast as well. We got their Fish Cake Soup, Rabokki, Pocha Fries, Steamed Egg, and Spicy Garlic Boneless Chicken. They even brought out some samgyeopsal on the house for us, which was super nice The place was basically empty when we came in, but this spot has so much potential to be a great late night spot so I hope more people start to come!! Tip: check in on Yelp for a free drink for the table read more

The staff doesn't check on you, it's one of those where you have to press the button to get any attention. Although that's great for a busy restaurant , it doesn't excuse you from checking on your tables, just my opinion. The fries and hot Cheetos... that was very disappointing.... My suggestion would be to pulse the Cheetos and sprinkle it like dusting on top of the fries that's been drizzled with cheese. It was def not worth &16 in my books.. read more
I have been to Pocha K Santa Clara several times and saw they had just opened this one and wanted to check it out. This place is a lot fancier on the inside than the Santa Clara place, and as others have mentioned it is definitely Instagrammable if you're into that sort of thing We went on a Wednesday evening around 6 pm and it was quite empty when we went. We ordered the pork belly and the rice cake with ramyeon. Both were huge in portion and between the two of us, we barely finished both of them. The pork belly was crispy yet juicy which is exactly the way it should be cooked. The rice cake with the ramyeon was also quite tasty. I would definitely consider coming back again! read more

While looking for a new spot to have a drink and snacks, I saw this on Yelp. Thank you for letting me know about this. I am all about Korean food and soju so this place was perfect. The restaurant is a good size with a good ambience and a nice vibe. It was not busy when we got there so we were seated right away. Our server came to us very quickly and served us our soju tower while we chose our food. Here is what we had: Steamed Egg: this is like a mound of egg, perfect as a side because I love eggs Corn Cheese: so far this is the tastiest one I have had in awhile Cheese Tonkatsu (Pork Cutlet): can you say cheese!!! Such a good combo and the sauce was amazing too Pocha Rose Tteokbokki: known for being less spicy and with CHEESE! I love this, next time will add ramen to it Korean Sausage: yummy baby sausages, goes well with the egg and rice Spicy Garlic Boneless Chicken: super YUMMY! I would go back just for this All in all, I think it is a great place to go with friends to have a drink and enjoy good food. I will definitely go back to try other things, and I suggest you try it out too. Oh, and they have a cute picture of in the front, they also allow children. read more

After a long wait, Pocha K has finally opened its door in Newark. We went on their first day of soft opening. We ordered a few items on their limited menu. Fried chicken, cheese Tonkatsu, chicken gizzard. They gave us a tteokbokki on the house. Let's talk food. The fried chicken was very crispy, flavorful, and moist. The cheese katsu was good, however the pork was too thin and cheese too thick. Once this cooled down, it feels like eating a block of cheese. The chicken gizzard was nicely flavored. No complaints on the tteokbooki (sauce is on the sweet side). Service: as a new establishment, I think the staffing could use a bit more training. For example, as an establishment marketed as a pub, I would assume that servers would know to open beer bottles when it is ordered (if not pop off). We've encountered a situation where we had to flag them down to open it for us. It was very enduring though. Overall, the ambience is good. Food is tasty. Would 100% come back and explore as their menu expands. read more

Came here on a Saturday around 5:30pm. Not many patrons. The time we left at 7:30pm, it was packed. We got the Pocha K fries, Dukbokgi, pork belly, and bulgogi. Food came pretty quickly. Loved the Dukbokgi, bulgogi, and fries. All were so tasty! The servers were pretty busy and we had to ring bell a few times. It's a really cute spot with lights and IG worthy decor. Will return! read more
I honestly just crave their chicken at times HAHAHA sometimes I think about the flavor of the sauce and juiciness of the chicken. Much better than the SJ location because it's more spacious and you don't have to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get seated. The interior design is also really cute with lots of lights and fake flowers placed in the center like a garden and there is an IG Angel wing Photo Booth wall. read more
Was craving their steamed egg so came here on a Tuesday evening about an hr after they opened. Plenty of space and we got seated right away. Been here a couple times and the wait is usually long. The food didn't take that long to come out and everything was really good. Got their fishcake soup, steamed egg, rabboki and cheese tonkotsu. It was a cold day so the fishcake soup really hit the spot. Don't sleep on their soups cuz they make you feel so warm and fuzzy 9/10 I don't think I've had steamed eggs from any other place as fluffy and flavorful as this one. 10/10 The rabboki was a large portion and of course we had to add cheese or it wouldn't be complete. 8.5/10 The cheese tonkotsu was new and interesting and the cheese pull was worth. 8/10 Overall would come again read more
Back again for a friends birthday! We had a lovely time and got to try more of the dishes. All the the dishes we loved and recommend except the steamed eggs. When it came out it was incredibly salty so we asked if they could remake it. They brought out new ones that so much better and was very much appreciated. read more

Okaaaay Pocha K! I get why this is the place to BE! My friends and I were looking for a fun space to grab dinner so Pocha K it was. On a Thursday evening, there was plenty of space in the restaurant and parking lot. Once our group of 6 got there, we were seated pretty quickly. There's actually a ton of seating in the restaurant and it looks like it's prepared for having big groups all the time. It's definitely more of a "hang out with friends" vibe rather than a family sit down or date vibe. The KPOP music, instagrammable walls and lights, and music videos on TV give it more of a party ambiance than a fancy night out. But hey, we were looking for somewhere fun so this was the perfect spot for us. The food was good and the star of the show for me was their fried chicken. We got both the boneless chicken and the spicy garlic boneless chicken. Both excellent choices, though I loved the spicy garlic sauce. It's not very spicy so I would encourage those who might have a lower spice tolerance to still try it as it's pretty good! We also got the kim chi & pork fried rice, corn cheese, and pocha fries. The fried rice and corn cheese were good (corn cheese leans on the sweeter side) and the pocha fries were fun with the hot cheetos on top. As a group we also enjoyed the pocha soju bomb tower and a couple of soju cocktails so all in all, it was a great night! I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a great spot to catch up with friends. However, be aware that you'll likely be spending more as they are on the pricey side and the space might get loud with all the music and lots of people talking! read more

Pocha K was so good that I had to go twice in one visit! The Korean fried chicken was so juicy and tender, the servers were so attentive, and the environment is so fun. Food, ambience, and service were all quite good. Portions for the price are what threw me off. Split one order of tteokbokki, one order of kimchi fried rice, and two orders of half/half boneless chicken/spicy garlic chicken between 5 people. None of us were entirely full and paid about $20 each. We were a little disappointed at how small the portions were for the price, as we expected to be full if we were going to be paying $20 each for a meal. However, the food itself was tasty for the most part. The tteokbokki was the perfect chewy texture in a mildly spicy and sweet sauce. The kimchi fried rice was also good, definitely not worth $14 for how little there is and you could definitely make this dish at home! The chicken was the highlight. The boneless chicken was fried to perfection and so juicy and tender. I found that the sauce for the spicy garlic boneless chicken was way too sweet and lacked spice. We had to ask for extra spicy sauce on the side. The servers were friendly and came out fast to serve us most of the time, despite it being busy. The restaurant has a very nice ambience, with purplish dim lighting, lots of cute decoration, and k-pop blasting in the background. read more
