What a great find! We were referred here by a local lady that said we should go if we were looking for something different and a little more unique. First, we were blown away by the view! It's gorgeous especially around sunset! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and told there would be a little bit of a wait but we quickly got drinks at the bar. The watermelon margarita was super fresh and not overly sweet which was perfect! For dinner, we each got a bowl of crab bisque and it was phenomenal! No crackers were needed! For the entree, we got the fish and chips. Yum! The fish was baked and topped with salt & vinegar potato chips. What a different approach! Just had one of the best meals (and drinks) at Po House. The quality of food was excellent. Mussels and the buttery wine sauce I couldn't get enough of and the Oyster Po Boy was a must order. The pickled veggies on top of the corn meal crusted oysters was a great touch. I enjoyed three different drinks and they were all well poured and easy to drink. Stopped in last night with 4 people and our 2 kids (4 &3). This place is not really kid friendly. 0 kid meal choices and when everything starts at $16 it's tough to get an entree that my kid will have 0-4 bites of. I tried to get a side of fried shrimp or anything and it just didn't exist. Not a big deal, just a note. The staff was very friendly and pretty good, drinks & check were a little slow but they were busy and otherwise service was very good. We had a painkiller ($12, a somewhat uninspired version and high price for that fact), an $8 IPA (slightly high but fine), and a $12 watermelon margarita special also priced at $12 (not sure what was special, it was good but served in a plastic glass.... At $10+ price point I start to get snobby about what I'm served my drink in). I had the Big Tuna entree. At $27 it was fresh, but high in cost. Mine was definitely closer to medium-rare vs. rare, but again they were busy. The tuna was well seasoned (blackened, should have been seared a bit harder, but not bad) about a 6 oz. portion and had an aioli that I left alone (it was okay, but the tuna was much better without it and it wasn't a traditional tuna style dipping sauce). The presentation was lacking and the sides were disappointing at least. Essentially a smashed, very large, minimally seasoned sweet potato & a cucumber slaw in a bowl that was so much vinegar it was essentially inedible. My wife had the $17 fish Sammy, that was good (obviously not cheap) and had one of the saddest spring salads I've ever seen. literally just greens. Serene inlet views that melt stress and I think that coupled with fresh food and good service keep me from going lower on this place, but the 5 stars it has feels like it should be with an *for OBX. read more

What a great find.... We were easing out of the island when we saw the Po House.... Wanting to delay our departure as long as possible, we stopped in for lunch. And we are so glad we did.... The view is worth 5 stars alone if you set out on the deck, which we did... Then there is the food... My dinning companion had Fish and Chips which was much more than your standard affair.. Bake Maui Maui with crumbled potatoes chips on top and smashed potatoes (red potatoes with garlic and parmesan cheese) all very good.. I had the Shrimp basket with smashed potatoes as well... The only thing we did not like was the coleslaw.. Nothing wrong with it .. just not our style fo coleslaw... And of course the wait staff was great.... Not sure, but I do think the owners were there and they took a personal interest in the service and the food which made the experience all the better... It was all fresh, unique and wonderful. My wife and I also had the drinks of the day from the bar that were refreshing and delicious. By far the best meal we had during our weeks vacation to the outer banks. We got there 15 minutes before they opened and waited in the parking lot. 5 minutes before opening the hostess came out and took names for the 5 or 6 groups that were already waiting. Very worth it. We've been visiting Avon for 20+ years and I can say that hands down this is the best meal I've ever eaten on the island. The views are great, the decor is welcoming and chic, and the drinks are EXCELLENT. I'm not ashamed to admit we've been twice this week and might make it three times by the end of our vacation. We sat on the deck (THAT VIEW IS AMAZING) and started with the hummus platter which not only had homemade chips but also loads of fresh veggies for dipping which I totally appreciated since I can't have gluten. My daughter had the crab cakes and they were delish. My husband had the dinner special which was a burger with a pulled pork topping (YUM) and I had the pulled pork, no bun, with a side salad and cole slaw. The pork was especially good, I couldn't stop eating it! Everything was fresh, delicious, and no corners were cut-- it's apparent everything is made from scratch. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the drinks. The Painkiller was perfection. On our second visit my husband and I sat at the bar and split the hummus platter and enjoyed a few Painkillers after jet skiing on the sound with Ocean Air Sports next door. Perfect way to top off the day. We're so happy to have a new favorite restaurant in Avon, one that values fresh food and doesn't drown everything in breading and fry it. I was pretty grumpy coming in, tbh. We took the long trip to Ocracoke, waited hours in the ferry line, saw the three things to see there. Didn't rent the golf cart to go from one ice cream place to another. Waited in the ferry line AGAIN to come back. I was hot, sweaty, and f--k was a noun, verb, adjective and adverb. It really wasn't looking good for anyplace I visited. This was a pleasant surprise. In a land of fried everything tourist traps, this was light and fresh--in both flavor and decor. With a prime location right on the water, Po House was the refreshing adult getaway I'd been craving. We had crab cakes which were melt in your mouth oh-so-good. Their cocktail special was an excellent tiki Painkiller. I loved it so much that I spent the entire summer drinking it by my own pool. I came back to Avon after 4 years and was so happy to find this gem! The food and drinks were amazing, and it was clear that there was a lot of thought and care put into the menu. My first time here I had the oyster seafood basket and the shishito peppers appetizer special - SO GOOD. We came in during the full blown pandemic with a group of 7 and with no inside seating they were extremely accommodating. On that note, the view of the sound from the deck is amazing. The food was outstanding. Myself and 2 others had the fish and chips and all were impressed. Another couple both had the tuna and said it was the best they ever had. My significant other had the braised pork over creamy corn polenta with the grilled vegetables and hasn't stopped telling me how delicious it was. The final order was the seafood pasta with the same satisfying result. I chose the the PO HOUSE because of the high reviews and here is yet another 5 star review. Service was rude and did not feel POC friendly. I walked in and the hostess was short to my grandma about the wait, but we let that slide and we're planning on waiting the 30 minutes. I went in after to get a beer for myself and my boyfriend who was in the bathroom, before I could order the bartender cut me off and asked for my id, I obliged as I'm 25. Then he interrogated me about who the second drink was for, where they were, and that they needed to be here before he would serve me. As someone that has been a server, I understand customer service and the law and this just felt like he did not want to serve me. My family of 7 was excited to try this restaurant but after this incident and the way the bartender made me feel, i knew this establishment did not deserve our money. read more

We had an amazing dinner at this beautiful waterfront restaurant! The owner and staff were extremely friendly and accommodating to us. They aim to please here and they were happy to serve a large group, while some establishments become overwhelmed. The Service was excellent. We only had to wait a little while to sit down for a table which wasn't unexpected considering there is a no reservation policy throughout all the Outer Banks. But the owner with the biggest smile invited us in with open arms and told us his story of how he arrived here and we got settled with some cocktails while waiting for the earlier crowd to leave. It was definitely well worth the wait! Starting with trendy, tasty cocktails using only the best top shelf liquor, expertly made, I knew that the experience here was meant to be impressionable. The perfect setting and a beautiful waterview, the feel of vacation, with the charming elegance but yet sophisticated charm of this lovely find ... to explain it as perhaps the feel of metro meets Outer Banks, or Hamptons style ... was the vibe I received. The food was fabulous. From appetizers to dinner entrees some of us got seafood and the fish and shrimp here was as fresh as could be. It is not frozen . It was the freshest catch. The shrimp and grits were delicious and prepared perfectly! My son got the braised ribs which was delicious and tender as could be. The mussels appetizer were fantastic and our group split a couple of platters of that and devoured them all up! It was hands down definitely the best dinner we had while we were in the outer banks! It was the PERFECT choice that night for celebrating my husband's birthday and we can't wait to go back again!!!! This is a hard review to write because the staff was so nice. I will start by saying the Seafood Bisque was very good! The potatoes were also very good. The seafood was very overwhelmed by the cornmeal. I am from the coast of NC and have had cornmeal fried shrimp and oysters all my life. It was just too much, and the taste of the seafood was lost. The Shrimp should have been deveined as big as there were. The crab cakes were good, but very small and very little remoulade sauce on top. This dish had three of these 2" diameter cakes and was $40. (Bill total was $102 with 2 entrees and the Bisque ... one beer) Both of our entrees were overpriced for the amount of food. I think with the prices this restaurant charges, it needs to pay more attention to the kind of details I have mentioned. I will repeat ... the staff was wonderful!! read more

My husband and I visited Po House for dinner while on vacation in Avon. We were pleasantly surprised by all aspects of our experience. The food was incredible! Fresh, local fish and produce. We had a local shishito peppers appetizer and a panzanella salad made with local tomatoes. My husband had the fish of the day, which was outstanding. I had the crab cakes, which were almost as good. The service was warm and attentive. We sat outside on the deck and watched the sunset while a lightning storm brewed off in the distance. Gorgeous night, great restaurant! We had a wonderful night dining at Po House. We sat on their back deck looking out at the sun setting over the Sound. We started off with cocktails. I had a dirty martini and my son-in-law had one of their specialty cocktails The Painkiller! For my meal I had the crab cakes and they were excellent-no filler all crabmeat. The crab cakes came with "smashers"which are pieces of potato that are crispy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. in addition, a cabbage based coleslaw adjoined the plate. I'm rather fussy when it comes to coleslaw. I don't like coleslaw drenched in mayonnaise or too sweet. I was pleasantly surprised that the coleslaw had just the right amount of "tang" to it. My daughter had the fish and chips which she raved about. They were baked and had a light potato chip crust. I had a bite and they were the real deal! My son-in-law had the fried shrimp which I can not vouch for since he devoured it quickly without an offer to share. I also appreciated the support staff. The hostess was welcoming but not too much so.. Our waitress was friendly, but not over-the-top. The bartender, who is the owner, came outside towards the end of our meal to say hello and find out if we had a positive experience. Our dog Miley (friendly dogs are allowed on the back deck) liked him right away! He told us that the restaurant was named after his dog Po whom he called the real owner. It may just be me, but I like a well run restaurant with upbeat employees, warm ownership, top notch food, and a view of the sun setting over the Sound. We were really excited to try this place as it's one of the newest restaurants in the area. The view of the sound was really beautiful. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we got there right when they opened and were able to get a table for 6 right by the water. The food options were a good mix of seafood and other choices. The fish and chips were very unique and came with fresh made coleslaw which was delicious. The Big Tuna was a generous portion and perfectly cooked. I would have preferred the mashed sweet potatoes without skin but they were still pretty good. The only downside were the flies. They were everywhere and ended up in the drinks and on the food constantly. We didn't seem to have as big an issue when eating at the other outdoor restaurants we went through throughout the week so unsure if it's the lack of traps or being so close to the water. read more
