I did not have a pleasant experience here :( it seemed like a good place to go enjoy a couple of drinks and listen to the live band, but the bartender, who claimed he was "the manager" was rather rude and disgusting towards me and my group. He refused to serve us and used curse words include f**k just because we had IDs from out of state. We are all 25+ and have never received questioning nor denial as rude as he was towards us. I would've loved to enjoy the drinks and it seemed like a great place but the staff was simply unprofessional. read more

Let me say I used to love this place. Lately I'm Highly disappointed. The Bar tenders are over worked and really don't care about the job anymore. I've been going there for twenty years and it's literally feels like we never met. The Architecture is great to see, and you should definitely check it out, but if you're into overpriced drinks in plastic cups served by people who couldn't give a crap,and bathrooms that smell like pee the Pub is your place A final thought. I have bartended for a living. It's not easy. But when you can't be polite to your customers, it may be time to find a new career. read more

We were visiting Beaufort for the day during off season and was having a hard time finding places open mid day and were glad to see they opened earlier than other places. It's a beer garden only right now during COVID-19 as the inside is too small to accommodate. The outdoor courtyard was very spacious with multiple spaced out seating. They have heaters on the way! It is lit up by string lights at night. The bartender brought our dogs water as soon as we walked in and although they weren't quite open she welcomed us a seat. (5 more mins! We are eager beavers when we aren't counting the days ) When we visit Beaufort again we will for sure be back. read more

I have to say that the 5 stars are given totally because they let dogs in this bar. Coolest place in Beaufort, hands down! Hubs and I ventured in after the Vin de Mer Saturday during the Wine and Food weekend. This little place is such a cool pub! The bartender seemed like she had probably worked there forever and greeted us like we were a couple of locals. We snagged some IPAs and took in the atmosphere. It is dark, small, old looking, very Irish Pub-like, duh. Out back is a little tiny courtyard with stairs that go to a top area where a live band is usually playing in the evenings. Backstreet shares the building behind Clawson's and is a historic building and clearly looks that way. It's old, somewhat dingy but oh so very cool! read more

Such a fun and funky little place. On most Friday nights in summer you'll find the outdoor space hopping with a band. Inside there's a tiny, dark old bar with a wood burning fireplace--so perfect on a cold night. Summer or winter, Back Street Pub is a great place to grab a beer and relax. read more

Backstreet Pub is exactly what the name says, its on a back alley from Front St, it's been there for a while and it's always been a great place to grab a beer and listen to some music. Several years ago they remodeled adding a whole outdoor patio to their space, renovated bathrooms, and a larger area for live music. This isn't a 'fancy' place, but its always been one of my favorites to come listen to music, grab a drink and catch up with friends. Often times there is a small cover for bands, nothing like Jacks in Morehead though. I've seen food trucks there several times, but otherwise we've brought food in from other surrounding restaurants. read more

Very cool spot to get a few beers. It looks like a "hole in the wall" as you access it from the back alleyway, but it's nice and historical feeling inside. Although we were here in November (it was pretty cold), the patio looks awesome and I bet it gets busy in the summer. Great beer selection, relaxed atmosphere, and very friendly bartenders. You can even bring your dog! Cool decor too, they have flags and memorabilia all over the wall, some signed by old regulars - this place has been around for a while. Don't get me wrong, this place was cool and it was obviously loved by the locals but it just wasn't my favorite. If you're a tourist looking for a cool bar, this wouldn't be my first recommendation. Where I sat, the condensation from the AC unit kept dripping on the bar in front of me and almost went in my drink. Might be cooler outside but it was raining so we stayed at the bar. read more

Also witnessed him be very rude to a very sweet older woman. Very nice dog friendly pub. It was very "local" but we were not excluded. A recent Bells Brewery tap takeover probably reduced their normal variety, but having hopslam on tap certainly made my decision easy. Cheese and crackers were put out for everyone, and we were invited back for soup, which apparently they have every Friday at 5. Based on Yelp reviews I decided to pay a visit. I'm new in town and thought it would be good to meet some locals. Well, first of all the previous reviews are not at all accurate. There were no specials even though it was happy hour. When I asked I was told that everything is special! Well, it wasn't. I started with one of the local beers on tap. It was not very cold and the price was about what I would have expected to pay most anywhere in an urban area. Next round I ordered a domestic bottle as the only domestics on tap were Miller Lite and PBR. Neither of which I am interested in. It was almost twice what I used to pay in the D.C. area. Friendly? Everyone was glued to some European soccer game. No conversation to be had. But here is the real kicker. The air conditioner was condensing water and dropping it right on the bar. One of the drips even landed in my beer! I paid the tab and quickly went around the corner to a restaurant bar where the domestic was available on tap. cold, and a dollar cheaper! Also the friendliness of the patrons and the bartender was much better. I did not see any dogs. While others had claimed it was beer and wine only there were plenty of spirits sitting on the bar. I did not check about credit cards since I had already read that they were not accepted on this forum. I cannot see any reason to return to this tiny, dark, establishment with no specials and few domestic choices on tap and over priced, far from cold bottles of beer. My fridge at home is cheaper and more appealing. I can't help but wonder if the previous reviews are written by friends and relatives because those reviews were certainly not what I found upon my first visit. read more

I lived for a year in Beaufort and this was my friends local hangout. The crowd is always really diverse and really friendly. You'll see yachters having drinks next to locals next to students. The bartenders are all super friendly, and you'll often see them hanging out here when they're not working. There's different specials each day of the week and frequent parties, special events, karaoke, and live music. Super laid back. Come as you are! read more

Very nice, extremely pleasant pub. Walk up the street between Clawson's and the General Store from Beaufort Docks, turn left at the next street and there you are. Beer and wine only. Free nibbles on Friday. Lovely roaring fireplace during cold weather. A couple of friendly (begging) bar dogs. Mingle with locals and cruising sailors from around the globe. I stopped by for a glass of wine before dinner last night and had a local invite me to Easter dinner on Sunday. How nice is that? Apparently this is a "C'mon in, you're family, what's your name?" sort of place and they really mean it. The library upstairs is open to anyone and you can take what interests you. It's good form leave a book behind but not required. If you see something you like they want you to have it. I left ten books and took one so the karma should all work out. read more

I walked into the Backstreet Pub on a random afternoon, with a little time on my hands, and I am so glad I did. It is said, "it's a what on the inside that counts." if that's true, then Backstreet is the real thing. Proprietor-bartender Liz was on hand for my first visit, and she helped to make my experience enjoyable, if not down-right exhilarating. I needed a good chat with some locals, about folklore and history. Backstreet is one of those genuine local bars where everyone interesting in town seems to swing by for a libation over the course of any given day. It's full of character (full of nautical paraphernalia and random "boating" objects) and characters too. I had a number of great conversations with amazing locals over the course of a couple of hours, and cold craft beers. Upon reflection, I thought Liz and the locals to be a quiet and unassuming group of intellectually-minded individuals. If you're looking for a GREAT local bar with craft beers and more, then get off the beaten path and wander into this Pub. This is no ordinary public house..... P.S. ahh, the best bar in BoFo. the only downside to this place (if it cld be a downside) is they don't accept CC. because they don't accept CC the beers are cheap... kind of ridiculously cheap. the owner is awesome, they do great customer appreciation events, there is a fireplace, quiz nights, awesome live music, karaoke, great beer selection, oh and again, did i mention the beer is ridiculously cheap. a BoFo gem. :) read more

When I used to live in Beaufort, this was always the place to go to meet friends, hear good music and watch the endless onslaught of hurricanes and sports on the T.V.'s while getting cigarettes out of the coin operated vending machine upstairs (don't know if they still have that thing, but they used to sell American Spirits in it :) ). The backyard patio is beautiful, as well as the history this little gem boasts. Gone are the fishing days and the smell of money thick in the air. Come are the new arrivals fresh off the boat. Still, through it all, into the imperceptabe future, the Backstreet Pub will be there, relativley unchanged, and always charming. If only these walls could talk. read more

No food, no credit cards so the bartender can keep throwing those IPAs right at ya. Right in the middle of the historic district, this converted bakery is a gem. The fireplace is stoking and there is an outside courtyard. Locals flock here, so a little crowded on Friday nights. read more

Cash-only bar divided into two levels. Interesting display of books and other interactive stuff strewn around. A chess board. Trivia cards. I have been here twice (most recently on 1 July 2011) and have had a decent experience each time. The atmosphere is laid back, but not oppressively so. They serve a bunch of fancy beers that I can't stand, but they also serve good old Miller Lite and so forth. Often there will be a band playing upstairs. The acoustics aren't stellar, but a good time can be had. read more

Every Beauforter's second living room. They have all kinds of beer in bottles and rotate local beers on tap. They have cold Stone IPA and PBR, for example. Excellent local bands play upstairs. If there is a cover charge at all, it is always worth it. Free bar food on some Fridays and the best local folks you could ever meet. They only take cash and only sell sealed bags of chips or other snacks. The fireplace is always hot during the wintertime and they're usually open every day from noon until late. The bartenders are friendly, conversational, and happy to let you try beers on tap before buying. Dogs are welcome inside the bar. Check their facebook page for special events. read more
