One of my favorite restaurants of all time. The mussels are soft where they almost melt in your mouth. There is almost no chewiness to them at all. The crispy smashers are both full of flavor and so crispy. Some of the potatoes don't get smashed enough and they are less flavorful but it tends to only be a couple of smashers out of the whole plate. The everything tuna was just as good as I remembered. The tuna almost melts in your mouth. The everything crust spices it up while complementing the avocado purée. The avocado puree does something that most restaurants fail to do, which is salt the avocado enough so it actually had flavor. I quite enjoyed the salad as the dressing had a strong soy flavor which was overpowering on some bites but perfect on others. The service was wonderful. The view of the water is such a joy. There is no place that I'd recommend more. read more

Best meal in OBX, yet again. A must visit, we really love food and the staff was extremely attentive. Not once did we feel rushed, about a 10 minute wait for a table and sat at the bar for a drink while waiting. I had the beef short ribs (not a huge seafood guy), and the wife had the catch of the day entree with red drum. Very good! Presentation and taste all on point. The small plate item we had as an appetizer was also great, baked feta which was phenomenal. The "painkiller" drink is very tasty. This was our second time visiting over the last year, we'll be back for sure. Not to mention the restaurants namesake, after the owners doggo, Po. TLDR: We came here for dinner and a nice view, and was forced to have a view of the parking lot for no reason. We were a party of 9 (6 adults, 1 teen, 2 kids) and came for dinner. There was one other table seated when we got to the restaurant. They began to get our table ready by the window with a view of the sound, then suddenly moved our seating across the restaurant to a table next to a window looking over the parking lot. We asked to move back to the side with a nice view and they denied our request saying it would be too crowded next to the only other table that had people seated. We acquiesced with our disappointing view. Within about thirty minutes, they sat two tables down next to the windows with nice views of the sound. They were tables of 7 and 8 people respectively. I'm disappointed in my experience and was annoyed with my crappy view of their parking lot. I'm not in a rush to return. read more

3 of us went on Tuesday following Memorial Day 2025 at around 7 pm. We waited around 30 minutes for our table & were offered an inside or outside table at the time it was ready. Our waiter Bowen relayed they were out of tuna & shrimp. We ordered the chicken instead, the famous fish-n-chips & the daily catch. The food took about 30 minutes to come out & it was altogether ok. My husband and I have visited Po House for our past 3 wedding anniversaries. As a military family that relocated to the east coast, we greatly look forward to our end of summer trips to OBX. Every time we have visited, we've had a great experience. The staff has been extremely welcoming and kind. Sarah has been our server the past two years and her service is excellent - she's so kind, great with recommendations. Not only is the location beautiful, but the food is fresh and caught daily. We have always sat outside on the back patio because the view and the sunsets are INCREDIBLE. You'll feel absolute peace while drinking your wine or cocktail. We try different things each time we visit, the chef does an amazing job creating new flavors. Since everything is fresh and caught daily, they can run out of certain items so keep that in mind. It's best to get there close to when they open. Po house is one of the best restaurants in OBX, I highly recommend visiting. Keep in mind it is a small, farm to table type restaurant. It's not going to be a large family style "I got Crabs at Dirty Dicks" vibe. Just be respectful to that and you'll have a wonderful time. read more

If you're staying anywhere remotely near this place, you need to go for dinner!! We'd been having a bad restaurant streak and I arrived with lower expectations but this was good by any measure. We did not have a reservation but they said that they could seat us outside in 5-10 minutes. The outside seating is beautiful and quiet. The only downside is it's a little buggy but it was mainly flies, nothing that'll bite you. Once seated, the server came out immediately to take our drink order. The service was quite good throughout the meal. I ordered the frozen drink, the watermelon margarita. It was tasty and refreshing. After hearing about the specials, we ordered the appetizers including the scallops and the burrata. They came out quickly. The scallops were perfectly seared and I liked the corn/poblano sauce at the bottom for some nice smokiness. The burrata was also tasty, I loved the tomatoes and Basil for freshness. We waited a little longer between the appetizers and main courses arriving but no big deal because they were completely delicious when they came out. I ordered the shrimp and grits (really polenta) with tomatoes and zucchini, basil, and a wine butter sauce. It was outstanding!! I loved the creamy polenta with the buttery sauce, and I was pleasantly surprised how much shrimp it came with. I left full and happy, and would absolutely go back for dinner tomorrow! read more

Was waiting for a table and wanted to grab a drink while I waited. I am nearly 27 years old. Bartender denied me a drink because my ID photo looked "30 years older than me" (my ID photo was taken the week after i turned 21) and that the nose looked different and that I was not the woman in the photo. I had several other forms of identification such as credit & insurance cards. I tried to explain that i am a hair colorist - the only difference between my ID photo and myself is my hair color. I understand the seriousness of complying with ALE rules during the 4th of July holiday week, but this felt very personal and discriminatory. read more

Po House is the best place to eat in between Rodanthe and Cape Hatteras. You can eat either outside, on the water, or inside, overlooking the water. My mom and I decided to grab a table outside and put on a coat. We went at the end of September/beginning of October, and it was a bit chilly even with our Buffalo blood. The owner was bartending that night and was friendly. We had old fashioneds and they were delicious. They also sell t-shirts here with an adorable pitty on them. I like that the dog is memorialized throughout the restaurants. I also like the clean look of the interior. My mom and I started off with the seafood bisque and it was incredible. We both thoroughly enjoyed the flavor. I had the mojo fish and chips, which was a Spanish mackerel, caught locally, encrusted with salt and vinegar potato chips. Who would have thought to encrust a fish in salt and vinegar chips? These people did and it was amazing! You have to try it. It is the perfect dinner. It was also served with coleslaw, which was flavorful, and crispy potatoes, which were out of this world. The entire meal was great. Could not recommend a better place to eat on Hatteras Island. This place is by far one of the best fresh seafood restaurants our family has ever been to. Sitting right next to the sound, we had beautiful views. The menu items sourced locally caught seafood and local produce, making the meals even better. We came on a Thursday night for dinner an hour before close. The restaurant was busy but not loud or packed. We were actually very pleased to have been able to get an outdoor seat as the restaurant overlooks the water and the view was spectacular! The outdoor seating was intimate and had some ambiant lighting, but you may need to take your phone flashlight out to read the menu. It was a very still night so the mosquitos were attacking us and our waitress was nice enough to notice and offer to bring us bug spray. Now let's talk about the food: every single dish that came out was a winner! A major winner! My partner and I ordered the mussel appetizer to share and it was *chef's kiss*. The mussels were stewed in a miso broth and had diced carrots and celery, reminding me of chicken noodle soup. The flavour was hearty and the mussels tasted fresh. I love mussels and order it out often but every so often get a bad experience. These mussels hit the mark! They were meaty, supple, and NO SAND, NO SHARDS!! Not a single mussel served to us was closed and we were so impressed as that meant the chef went above and beyond to take out the dead ones and make the eating experience so much better. They were so good I wish I ordered another serving. For the main course I ordered the seared tuna and enjoyed it deeply. Every component on that dish added to the overall flavour: the coconut rice had great texture and not too sweet or too creamy, the avocado puree tasted fresh without being too salty like guac. The tuna was the perfect texture and the veggies were seasoned well. My partner ordered fish and chips which I was skeptical about since every f&c I've ever ordered had been a thin overcooked fillet with soggy fast food style breading and super greasy but this exceeded expectations. It was the best fish and chips I've had. The fish was fresh and meaty, perfect texture, and the exterior was crunchy without being hard. It was very tasty with tartar sauce. So delighted to have found this spot and add it to our rotation whenever we are in OBX! read more

Awesome food, awesome view, clean and open space. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here, as we often do on vacation. It used to be the. Blue Parrot, our absolutely favorite dining spot in Avon, again, for the view and steamed shrimp. We started with the crab bisque, which was a tomato base with cream and sherry, and the pork nachos. Both were excellent! For my large plate, I had the seafood basket with fried Virginia oysters. They were lightly fried, which was perfect and they were not over-cooked. My wife had the fish and smashers dinner, with salt and vinegar chip crust. It was equally delicious. We sat on the patio, having arrived at 5:00, there was still seating available. The service was on point and several folks checked in to make sure we had our needs met. What a peaceful way to celebrate our anniversary! read more

While vacationing in the OBX, my friends and I went to Po House for dinner. I think this was my favorite meal from the trip. I had the crab cakes and they were perfect. The feta appetizer was amazing..just needed some extra bread served with it. My friends ordered fish & chips and the short ribs and they all loved theirs as well. This was our first food stop in the Outer Banks and we could not have been more pleased with our choice. They have a beautiful deck outside with a gorgeous sunset view. Highly recommend if you can make it at sunset. They also have an indoor dinning space plus a bar. There were only 3 staff members outside of the kitchen working and they were amazing. Our waitress always had a smile, great attitude, and provided great service. Thank you! I had their special watermelon slushy which was delicious and refreshing. For food, we ordered the Fish Sammy, the Po'Boy, and the Shrimp pasta. Our entire party enjoyed everything we ordered. This was a great start to our trip! read more

I enjoyed my experience here and while it's unfortunate my partner did not, that happens in life. However, when the manager decided to take it upon himself to insult her the way he decided to I became infuriated. I'm so sorry the manager at this establishment is too prideful to accept that not everyone has a good experience. The way he harassed us while we were leaving the restaurant over a review is ridiculous, but that doesn't even cover the nasty response he left to said review. I can't imagine how miserable this man's life must be to harass two young adults over a review which was written in response to his own shameful actions. Bless your heart buddy because with an attitude like yours I wish you only the best in life. Personally I did not have a good experience at the "po house." I ordered the Burrata Panzanella and received an assortment of blueberries, mozzarella, and tomatoes tossed in a nasty olive oil sauce with croutons that were too crunchy to chew. I explained this to our non-attentive but kind waiter who took it away. When it came time for our bill we were still charged for what I couldn't even eat and greeted by the manager who was rude about not adjusting the bill. I managed to get the bill taken care of but I am highly disappointed in this whole experience. This is our last night in the outer banks and was looking foreword to a nice meal with a beautiful atmosphere but instead I'm leaving hungry and upset. The sunset was pretty at least... Also, the manager who was so kind about adjusting my bill came out as I was walking to my car and was nasty about the review I wrote. Please, stay away from this so-called friendly establishment. And to the manager, who I know is reading this, you're welcome and I will make sure everyone I know steers clear of this disgusting place. Have a good night. read more

We've been coming to the OBX for 37years. One of our consistent disappointments is the lack log quality seafood! Po House is the best restaurant in OBX, period! The seared tuna appetizer made our mouths drool. We had the red salmon and mahi and the chef prepared and presented the dishes perfectly. The mashed potato side and perfectly cooked squash, cucumbers, asparagus, and green beans were terrific compliments to the main dishes. Service was spot on even though they were a full house. Staff is obviously well trained and attentive. Worth the 45 minute drive to Avon! read more

I don't remember the name of the salad we shared as an appetizer, but it had tomatoes, blueberries, mozzarella cheese, mint, olive oil and bread - was delicious. We ordered dessert to go - a peach & berry cobbler and some apple fritters. The desserts paled in comparison to everything else. Bathrooms were clean.
