My husband and I have visited Po House for our past 3 wedding anniversaries. As a military family that relocated to the east coast, we greatly look forward to our end of summer trips to OBX. Every time we have visited, we've had a great experience. The staff has been extremely welcoming and kind. Sarah has been our server the past two years and her service is excellent - she's so kind, great with recommendations. Not only is the location beautiful, but the food is fresh and caught daily. We have always sat outside on the back patio because the view and the sunsets are INCREDIBLE. You'll feel absolute peace while drinking your wine or cocktail. We try different things each time we visit, the chef does an amazing job creating new flavors. Since everything is fresh and caught daily, they can run out of certain items so keep that in mind. It's best to get there close to when they open. Po house is one of the best restaurants in OBX, I highly recommend visiting. Keep in mind it is a small, farm to table type restaurant. It's not going to be a large family style "I got Crabs at Dirty Dicks" vibe. Just be respectful to that and you'll have a wonderful time.

Cheers to a amazing discovery. The food and services here were top tier of any of the restaurants on the island.

What an amazing find. How could we be visiting all these years and not have discovered this place sooner. Everything from the service, the food, the views really made this place quite memorable . We will definitely be coming back hopefully soon.

If you're staying anywhere remotely near this place, you need to go for dinner!! We'd been having a bad restaurant streak and I arrived with lower expectations but this was good by any measure. We did not have a reservation but they said that they could seat us outside in 5-10 minutes. The outside seating is beautiful and quiet. The only downside is it's a little buggy but it was mainly flies, nothing that'll bite you. Once seated, the server came out immediately to take our drink order. The service was quite good throughout the meal. I ordered the frozen drink, the watermelon margarita. It was tasty and refreshing. After hearing about the specials, we ordered the appetizers including the scallops and the burrata. They came out quickly. The scallops were perfectly seared and I liked the corn/poblano sauce at the bottom for some nice smokiness. The burrata was also tasty, I loved the tomatoes and Basil for freshness. We waited a little longer between the appetizers and main courses arriving but no big deal because they were completely delicious when they came out. I ordered the shrimp and grits (really polenta) with tomatoes and zucchini, basil, and a wine butter sauce. It was outstanding!! I loved the creamy polenta with the buttery sauce, and I was pleasantly surprised how much shrimp it came with. I left full and happy, and would absolutely go back for dinner tomorrow!

Was waiting for a table and wanted to grab a drink while I waited. I am nearly 27 years old. Bartender denied me a drink because my ID photo looked "30 years older than me" (my ID photo was taken the week after i turned 21) and that the nose looked different and that I was not the woman in the photo. I had several other forms of identification such as credit & insurance cards. I tried to explain that i am a hair colorist - the only difference between my ID photo and myself is my hair color. I understand the seriousness of complying with ALE rules during the 4th of July holiday week, but this felt very personal and discriminatory.

Highly recommend, service was on point, drinks delicious and the food was so good! Everyone in our family loved their dish. Also Recommend the Feta/blueberry appetizer

    Painkiller!! Mmmm!

Good food & great service at this place! We sat outside by the water & though hot, it was shaded & had a breeze. Bartender was great-my painkiller was spot on with a dusting of nutmeg. There was a line when we arrived but we had a drink in the bar before being seated 20 minutes later. We shared burrata panzanella--tasty! Crunchy bread with fresh herbs with mozzarella balls-- mmm! We shared a shrimp seafood basket. The shrimp breading wasn't overpowering & they were good! Accompanying smashed potatoes were yummy, as was the coleslaw. We'll stop again if in the area.

Po House is the best place to eat in between Rodanthe and Cape Hatteras. You can eat either outside, on the water, or inside, overlooking the water. My mom and I decided to grab a table outside and put on a coat. We went at the end of September/beginning of October, and it was a bit chilly even with our Buffalo blood. The owner was bartending that night and was friendly. We had old fashioneds and they were delicious. They also sell t-shirts here with an adorable pitty on them. I like that the dog is memorialized throughout the restaurants. I also like the clean look of the interior. My mom and I started off with the seafood bisque and it was incredible. We both thoroughly enjoyed the flavor. I had the mojo fish and chips, which was a Spanish mackerel, caught locally, encrusted with salt and vinegar potato chips. Who would have thought to encrust a fish in salt and vinegar chips? These people did and it was amazing! You have to try it. It is the perfect dinner. It was also served with coleslaw, which was flavorful, and crispy potatoes, which were out of this world. The entire meal was great. It was nice sitting outside and enjoying the sunset on the sound.

Could not recommend a better place to eat on Hatteras Island. This place is by far one of the best fresh seafood restaurants our family has ever been to. Sitting right next to the sound, we had beautiful views. The menu items sourced locally caught seafood and local produce, making the meals even better. Our server, Henry was great and helped us to decide on what we should get. 10/10 recommend. We will be back next year!

Last night we enjoyed our dinner at Po House outside seating. Due to the anticipation of volume we had an early dinner so we didn't get to enjoy the sunset but the water view was fantastic. My husband loves the Crispers that are just as described, crisp exterior with soft inside, seasoned well with Parmesan cheese. For dinner we had fish and chips and the tuna. Both were excellent. Excellent Service!

Fish and smashers: that coleslaw was amazing!

Awesome food, awesome view, clean and open space. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here, as we often do on vacation. It used to be the. Blue Parrot, our absolutely favorite dining spot in Avon, again, for the view and steamed shrimp. We started with the crab bisque, which was a tomato base with cream and sherry, and the pork nachos. Both were excellent! For my large plate, I had the seafood basket with fried Virginia oysters. They were lightly fried, which was perfect and they were not over-cooked. My wife had the fish and smashers dinner, with salt and vinegar chip crust. It was equally delicious. We sat on the patio, having arrived at 5:00, there was still seating available. The service was on point and several folks checked in to make sure we had our needs met. What a peaceful way to celebrate our anniversary!

This year they added an outdoor tiki bar and it has great views of the sound. So, if you come early for your reservation or want to stay for a few cocktails after dinner, this is the perfect place. The main restaurant has both inside seating with AC/heat and seating that is mostly enclosed but is more like outside seating with large windows that are generally open when the weather permits....not a bad seat anywhere you sit! During the summer months they host great acoustic guitar performances that can be enjoyed along with your dinner. This is the place to go to in the Avon-Buxton-Frisco-Hatteras area for fine dining and well worth the reasonable prices. During our visit earlier this week we ordered a kids meal, Elk chops, lamb, and the filet for this in our group and everything was cooked to perfection. The Chef was helpful at making recommendations on how the Elk should be cooked and the recommendation was spot on! If you're in the OBX this summer, put the Inn on your dinner rotation---especially if looking for a more upscale experience.

Six shucked oysters stuffe with fire-roasted poblano peppers, mozzarella & gouda mix, chopped bacon & butter beurre blanc When the appetizer arrived, there were 13 oysters cooked the way it says above I can't eat 13 oysters. I'm only one person so I stopped the person who was waiting on me and asked if There was a mistake because there were three times the amount of oysters on the plate he said no that's how it comes. I said OK thank you you. Then I waited 35 minutes for a shrimp Poboy there were two other people in the restaurant besides me eating that's it a shrimp Poboy if you're completely incompetent and have never cooked a day in your life might take you 12 to 15 minutes to cook if you're an established restaurant with only two other customers I can't imagine it taking longer than 10 minutes. Frying shrimp takes 4 to 7 minutes, depending on the size and the. Then I got the shrimp Poboy with four shrimp on an 8 inch bun. I cut into one of the shrimp one of the four and it wasn't cooked so when the guy came back by, I told him that I was just gonna take my oysters to go and that I couldn't eat the shrimp Poboy and I also said I think it's laughable that there were four shrimp on this entire sandwich And so then he asked me how many shrimp I wanted and I said I'm I'm not engaging in this kind of toxic conversation. So he brought me a box and the check and I went up to pay the check for my oyster appetizer and I set them to go box down on the Counter in front of me I still can't believe this happened, but when he handed me the check right after he did that, he picked up my to go box full of oysters because I only ate four and threw them away and said that since I didn't like his shrimp, Poboy, I couldn't have his food. This happened to me on Christmas day, all by myself. I am not exaggerating when I say I've only felt like I've been in the presence of true evil a few times in my life and this man the way that he was violent and aggressive in his speech and his mannerisms and taking my food for me and throwing it in the trash two seconds after handing me the check for it is the most wild behavior I've ever witnessed in all of my life if you have a choice to eat anywhere else, I urge you to do that

We ordered the seafood platter deep fried which ended up being a mess. The shrimp were chewy and there was barely anything of any item. Nothing was seasoned and the crab cake while full of crab was dry. The shellfish trio was the best item ordered that had plenty of scallops, shrimp, and crab meat. The pesto cream sauce was serviceable but the dish is average at best. We had two different daily specials, the mojo yellowfin tuna and the Parmesan crusted triggerfish. The mojo yellowfin tuna was cooked well enough, with it being mostly raw in the center, but lacked really any flavor and a tad bit overcooked on one side. It was served over some rice, beans, and a fruit salad. Off combination and not great. There was a side of what tasted like boiled unseasoned zucchini/squash. Abysmal side and a terrible dish, but not even the worst dish. The Parmesan encrusted triggerfish was the worst dish I've ever been served. The dish even from its conception is poorly designed as it has way too much Parmesan. Usually for a Parmesan encrusted dish there would be about an 80/20 split of breadcrumbs to Parmesan, however this dish was almost all Parmesan likely 10/90 of breadcrumbs to Parmesan. The overwhelming flavor of Parmesan was the only thing you can taste and totally masked the triggerfish. The worst part was while half of the fish was fine the other half had something terribly wrong with it. Instead of being flakey the other half was rubbery and chewy and tasted nothing like fish. This rancid half could barely be cut with a knife and made us sick. This was also served with a side of unseasoned squash just to make it even worse. The strawberry rhubarb pie and chocolate pecan pie were both fine but didn't amaze. With everything being so terrible food wise the restaurant is even worse with every entree being over $30 and the acoustics were terrible. The whole place is so loud when it's a full house and you have to scream to talk to someone at your table. The prices present a high quality meal but I wouldn't even pay fast food prices.
