I bought a used HP Designjet 650C, hmm, must have been six years ago or more. It was old then, but Peter said it was a workhorse and was good for a long time yet. I just upgraded my operating system to OS X 10.6 the other week, then found the plotter didn't work. After a bit of research online I read to my dismay the new OS wouldn't run the 650C at all. Refusing to believe I had to buy another $2000 plotter, I called Peter to see if there was any way I could run it off an old machine. Well Peter walked me through all the steps I needed to get ol' Workhorse up and running again -- not just from another computer, but from my main machine -- defying all the gurus online! This was over two phone calls and nearly an hour of his unpaid time, yeeeeaars after I bought the thing, mind you, and without a hint of cajoling me toward buying a newer machine. I bought a large format printer from the fine people last week. Ordinarily I would have picked the local experts brain on the subject and then found the best deal online. However I was so taken with the people here that I decided to buy from them. I assume their main business is doing large format printing for people, which they seem to do very well. The quality of the samples I asked them to print were amazing. They know their stuff, are very friendly and have one of the nicest dogs I have ever met. Plotter Pros rules! I first became associated with Plotter Pros when my older HP plotter (24" roll max) needed servicing. I was so amazed with the awesome service that I called them to discuss purchasing a new (bigger and better and much-needed) plotter. Peter at Plotter Pros listened to my needs and addressed my concerns and made a recommendation. It took me 6 months to convince our business owner to make the purchase, but it was well worth the effort! We've had the new HP DJ500 that Peter recommended for probably about 4 years now. It has worked flawlessly. It costs less to operate than our previous plotter, has way superior quality and saves us time like I never imagined. This plotter has paid for itself a few times over at this point and reduced my stress level. It's also so easy to use the plotter. Even the engineers can operate it! Peter has subsequently spent time on the phone with me helping trouble shoot various issues (not related to the plotter hardware) and helping me make the best decisions for my plotting needs. I have an old HP DesignJet 1055cm plotter at work, and my boss told me to "just get it working." I called a couple of places nearby, and they both suggested I call Peter at Plotter Pros. I really just wanted someone to come fix the darn thing, but Peter let me know over the phone that it could get expensive. When I told him I had my marching orders and cost probably wasn't an issue, he agreed to come service it, but not until AFTER I completed a list of things he gave me to do first. 4:25 pm Thursday,, just had interesting phone conversations with some guy who told me my maintenance cartridge was here several days later than promised date. Read on if you are interested. My credit card was charged without invoice, tracking, ETA, text, call back, heads up, or nothing. I didn't know my card was charged until I actually received the call. When I called the plotter pros store to place the order, I was given 2 days. Not 7 days. Also I had asked the girl who took my CC to send me invoice and gave her my name, number and email. It wasn't like they had to send a certified slow mail to me for approval. Simple picture of invoice texted to me or emailed would have sufficed. It's 2019. But since I already bought it from else where when I didn't hear back from them, I politely told the guy I didn't need it no longer. He told me he would have to charge the shipping and re stocking fee. And he told me that it was my fault for not calling them back to ask for status before I ordered from someone else. Hmm okay. I didn't know I was charged for a product because no one at plotter pros had bothered to follow up. A phone call saying "Hi. We are sorry the order is delayed. It will be here few days later", would be my 'common sense' way to talk to a customer. And If I knew it was going to be delayed I would have canceled the order right there and than. I was speechless when the guy told me that he was trying to make me "understand that you have to communicate" Maybe I should have treated them like a 5th grader and followed them from home to school to make sure they got to the class and did their homework. I asked why they didn't send me invoice, when they ordered for me, he could not give me a straight answer. So I asked if they had a special order that was not fulfilled in timely manner, do they let customers know? ..no straight answer and he suddenly hung up. I was at my job site so I thought I pressed something by accident so I called right back and several tries later I knew they were avoiding my call. I actually called back to say that I support the local businesses. I grew up in 408 all my life. I know it's tough to operate mom and pop businesses and everyone has bad days. How do I know? Because I am a small local business owner. I know we all build our livelihood one transaction at a time. That's why instead of amazon and eBay, id rather use local folks.... but I do get upset when I receive rude remarks that does not even make common business sense. Now I'm not going to bash and say these guys are crooks and don't use them ever, because chances are I might give them another try down the road. But for betterment of business practice, I will leave them with 1 star for arguing with a customer with a stupid logic like how it's my fault not letting them know to cancel the delayed order when 1. There was no indication that the order was placed in the first place. 2. Order fulfilled much later than the promised date and hanging up the phone and ignoring my call back. read more

My go-to place for large prints for the past 4 years! I was a BFA Graphic Design student at SJSU and I had to make a lot of same-day prints. I sometimes only had a few hours before an assignment was due and they helped out. They even help you out a little if you're a college student. The prints always came out good. I usually did a heavier weight matte. The Labrador dog is really friendly, as well as the staff. One time the colors didn't come out right, he took the time to explain how to calibrate your screen and prep your file. read more

As a photographer and a former printer, I've always admired the personal attention to detail that goes into creating a print. Large prints are especially difficult in that the image is magnified that much larger. These guys delivered in my time of need. My HP 650C finally decided to retire during a busy time in my schedule. Needless to say with all the deadlines in queue, I need a replacement ASAP. After seeing lots of review and the BFA recommendation, I decided 2 give it a try... and the result??? Rather disappointed. Well I think the print quality stops at OK and the paper (matte) isn't that nice. And the sad part... I got charged for prints that color is off :(( Prof prints were charged 2 :( Wasn't happy. Wanted 2 save money since ppl said they are cheaper to compare w other places. But end up spending much more 4 all the incorrect prints (color problem) and prof =.= I would prefer Staple at Coleman 4 printing :( Free prof prints until u like it, the matte paper is so much nicer and the color is nice ( well be aware that prints here has more yellow and darker, so u should edit them first ) And Kim was SUPER NICE. A little pricey ($15 for 15x20 print) but worth the price. Will never come back here again :( read more

Plotter Pros has the best customer service I've ever experienced. I've been to Staples, Office Depot, FedEx, all the big copy & print chains but Plotter Pros has by far the best service and prices. I plotted a 32 x 40 floor plan with Peter and he got the job done perfectly. The quality of their prints is vector clean. And the prices? I used Plotter Pros on the recommendation of an SJSU student who had good results about a year ago. I'm afraid I had the opposite experience. Along with two other SJSU students who came in the same week preparing for our year end gallery show, we were all disappointed with the quality. We all got grainy prints bad enough to make the fonts on our printed names to have fuzzy edges. Two of us got the same faint horizontal lines running through our art. After my first print (which I junked) I made special effort to make sure my digital art followed all the owners recomendations as to file format, embedded color profiles, etc and even showed him on my laptop as I flattened and saved the Tiff format requested. And got two more bad prints. I was also charged for the bad prints with the lines which I used to protect the final print because they don't provide sleeve protectors or a bag for your prints. Even Kinkos does that. So after spending nearly twenty dollars I ended up with a grainy print with blurry lettering but at least without the lines. I have no problem paying for mistakes I make in my digital art but I shouldn't be charged for printing problems that don't exist in the art. Also the owner made no effort to solve the grainy problem after I mentioned it. Since all three of us had the same set of problems I think I can reasonably rule out it was just my files. There were some beautiful samples in the shop so I know they can do good work but they didn't do a good job for me or my friends. I'd never use them again read more
