I ordered an entrée with three sides: grilled vegetables, roasted heirloom carrots, and mac and cheese. Everything was made to order, so my meal arrived fresh and flavorful. The olive oil-roasted vegetables were simple but well seasoned and satisfying. The roasted heirloom carrots were unique as they were seasoned with za'atar and served with whipped feta, which added a delicious flavor. The mac and cheese, however, was just average. I'm not a big fan of gluten-free pasta, and I found it a bit too chewy. It also didn't absorb the cheese sauce very well, so it wasn't as creamy or flavorful as I had hoped. I also tried the draft kombucha, which was fine but nothing particularly memorable. The service was quick, even during a busy weekend lunch, and a staff member was friendly. The restaurant itself has a cute, welcoming interior with plenty of seating, so finding a table wasn't an issue. Overall, I had a really enjoyable meal and thought it was well worth the price. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

The manager Douglas is very friendly and accommodating and recognizes us when we call to reserve a table. When we arrive he always has menus and waters on the table for us and he spends time talking and checking up on us while we enjoy our meal. My wife's go to dinner is the General Tso's Chik'n, I like to mix it up and try different things but our other favorites are the spinach wonton soup, the fantasy roll, the fried chik'n app, the veggie kabob app, the curry supreme and the colorful veggie lomein. My wife has been a customer for over 25 years and introduced me to the restaurant when we started dating and myself being primarily a meat and potatoes person I find the food at Sunflower surprisingly flavorful and high quality. If you're close to Vienna I strongly recommend Sunflower.

Updated Review (previously 5 stars) due to poor management response:…read more Management has changed since my last visit, and boy, this place is not what it used to be, and that makes me sad. About four years ago, I happily gave this restaurant 5 stars and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. During my meal, I discovered ANTS actively crawling around my food. (See video) It was disturbing to watch them around the sauce next to my meal, and I immediately stopped eating because I no longer felt comfortable consuming the rest of it. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation afterward. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the manager despite multiple attempts. When I finally spoke with him, he refused to provide a refund because more than 30 days had passed since my visit. Given the nature of the complaint and the difficulty I had reaching management, I found that response completely unreasonable. I also raised concerns about being asked questions during my visit that made me feel racially stereotyped. Those concerns were never acknowledged or addressed by management, which only added to my disappointment. Because I believed this was a legitimate food safety issue, I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Health Department. After investigating, the inspector informed me that they visited the restaurant, discussed my concerns with the manager, and that the manager confirmed my reported ant sightings. The Health Department also required additional pest control measures. Beyond the service issues, I also noticed a significant decline in the food. The wonton soup was bland and lacked the rich flavor I remembered, and the General Tso's Surprise tasted off and was missing the depth and spice that used to make it one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite vegetarian spots, which is why writing this review is so disappointing. Based on my recent experience, the difficulty in getting in touch with management, and their total lack of customer service or care for loyal customers, I can't recommend dining here. They do not care about their customers based on how I was treated.

I thought my salmon wrap and the chickpea side was ok. Interesting flavors for sure. As for the service, there was always someone filling up our waters and our waiter was very nice checking in every now and then. The only downside of the experience is at the end when the waiter was boxing up all the food for us. Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. So that was kind of a disappointment for us. I think if we go again, we would request to box our food ourselves since I'm not sure why they decided to get rid of all of his lamb.

Anniversary | Menu | Vibes…read more Anniversary - We celebrated our wedding anniversary over Sunday brunch, which was a great option with an infant at home. The restaurant was about 50% full when we arrived at 10 a.m., making it relaxed and easygoing. The staff made the occasion feel special with complimentary champagne, an elevated table setting, and a signed anniversary card from the team. Small touches, but they made a big difference. Menu - The menu has a good range while remaining relatively simple and focused. The pairings are clearly well thought out. I had the chicken sandwich with fries and considered substituting the tater tots, but the staff strongly encouraged me to stick with the chef's recommended pairing. They were right. The fries complemented the sandwich well, and I appreciated a staff confident enough in the menu to steer me toward the chef's vision. Vibes - Great ambiance. It's an ideal date spot while somehow remaining very family-friendly. About a quarter of the tables had kids under 10, yet the restaurant never felt loud or chaotic. The finishes and decor are simple but elevated, creating a space that feels special without being overly formal. Pro tip: There's a parking lot across the street, and the restaurant validates parking. Easy and convenient. Pro tip: Get a reservation. I expect this place to become increasingly popular over the next 3-6 months as word gets out about the food, service, and overall experience.

The ambience is a nice modern vibe, great for casual dinner, not too expensive. The food is decent, all up to standard. All perfectly cook with some safe creativity. Nothing that blows your mind but cannot expect that at $65 these days. Greens on toast is nice and refreshing. The citrus salad is good too but nothing too unexpected than it looks. Mains with salmon and pork chop are solid. Not too memorable but happy to eat. Desserts are ok ... but their brunch is more memorable with their pancakes.

Our meal took place on a Tuesday evening, yet the restaurant was constantly busy (though not packed to the point of having to wait for a table) with a diverse clientele, which speaks to Chay's popularity. Among the 3 of us, we split 2 mains and an appetizer, which was more than enough food. The fried calamari was nice and paired well with the spicy dipping sauce (which was actually spicy). I loved all the fresh veggies and generous amounts of peanuts and fried shallots in bún chả Hà Nội (vermicelli platter). As a saucy girlie, I REALLY liked the "fish sauce" accompanying the dish. Despite the deliciousness of those 2 dishes, the real star of the meal was thịt kho sả (lemongrass clay pot). Perfect flavoring; I almost forgot that it was vegetarian. The only downside to my experience was the service: it would have been great for a server to stop by and refill our water every once in a while.
