This was my first visit to any Pleasant's Hardware branded store. I've been to Ace before. My first time to this location. I live about a 1 hour round trip. Came there specifically to have a key duplicated. No one at the desk. No problem, I'll wait. Employee walks by and sees me standing there and was going to keep walking so I decided to ask her if she can help me. Immediately, not a great attitude. Did not catch her name but pretty sure her name tag had "manager" on it. She had that way of talking that just signals they are irritated to be helping you. So she doesn't have the needed blank (which I understand) and decides to try to make a "custom" key for me, which I appreciate. She hands it to me and says she thinks it will work but it's custom made. Ok, I get it. This is where my annoyance increases. I said I'd like a total of three duplicate keys. She refused to make the other two. She said there's no point in making them if I'm not sure if they are going to work. Sure there is....I live an hour away, I tell her, so I'd like to get the keys now. Nope, she refused again. So if the keys work, I'm all set. If they don't work, I'm out $6 to $8. Under her way, if the keys work, I am supposed to make another 1 hour round trip to have 2 more made? Why not just make them? She apologized for how far I lived away and said....there's no point in making them if I'm not sure they are going to work. I'm a bit stunned at this outright refusal to sell the customer what they are asking for. I guess the customer is not always right at this store. It was clear she just didn't want to spend 5 more minutes making two more keys. It was quite annoying. I do not plan to return to this store. read more

This location had a better selection than the one at Libbie and Patterson but the service wasn't as good. I like to shop at the smaller hardware stores, but if they want to compete with the big dogs, they have to step up their customer service here. There are many unique home and garden items, as well as a nice selection of flags. But they didn't have a few of the items I needed. The prices are a bit higher than some larger hardware places, but it's convenient if you don't want to deal with the huge superstores. read more

I'd only been to Pleasants once before and that was at the Broad Street location (which no longer exists). I was PLEASANTly surprised by the selection (so many options that I found it difficult to choose) and price of what I needed. They were very happy to help me find what I needed, too. read more

Have always found the service here to be top notch but today and in particular. We have moved and tried, a couple times, to go to a shop closer to our new home. Each time we ended up coming here, even though it's much further from our new home, after receiving bad to no service elsewhere. Today, after another horrible experience at the store closer to home, we stopped by to make our purchase. We were in and out quickly. Not only where they attentive, they helped us get the product we needed with all proper accessories, explained what we needed to know and even filled out and sent our warranty information for us. Needless to say, we will no longer hesitate to go out of our way to shop here as they always go out of their way to live up to their name. read more

The service here is terrible which surprises me for a Ace Hardware franchise. I was stood infront of the paint stain for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out what product I needed. In the meantime a sales associate was standing in my area and even next to me for some time and never once asked if I needed any help. I was about to walk out and then a guy asked if I needed help. I explained I needed wood stain for a fence. He takes me to a section with touch up pens and despite me saying several times that I needed at least a gallon to paint a large area proceeded with still looking through the small touchup pens. The Pleasants down the street in Tuckahoe is much better and they have a greater selection of products. read more

Excellent experience in every way. The manager, Jason Askew is always available. They carry a high quality inventory ( Stihl ) and have a service/repair shop with fair prices. The staff is very knowledgeable and courteous and is well trained to answer any questions you might have. Pleasants hardware on Patterson Avenue is simply the best hardware store in Richmond. We have gone there a few times to get spare house key made. Every single time the key never works on the first try and we always have to return to get it remade. It's pretty frustrating. Never have this issue with HomeDepot but Pleasant Hardware is much closer to my house so I usually go there on my way to grocery shopping. We just got another key made and it doesn't work, which means I have to take another trip out to have it remade. Such a waste of time. Next time I am going to just suck up and go to HomeDepot instead. read more
