Can never call ahead or reserve a table so we waited about 30 mins for a table. Sat down and ordered drinks and food right away. Food took a little bit. I've noticed the prices increased quite a bit in the last year. Food was large portions and pretty tasty except I got a burrito and there were way too many long stringy onions. My kids shared a kids meal and we quickly realized we needed another one so I promptly ordered more chicken tenders and it took so long for them to come out! Had dinner here on a Sunday with coworkers and the kids and it was super busy. The food got mixed up and it wasn't what I thought it would have been. The only thing I liked was the empanadas. My daughter got the chicken quesadillas and there was too much cheese and not enough chicken. She took one bite and pushed it aside. My entree had too much cheese on it to enjoy. Real BAD. I waited for nearly an hour to be seated and was then took to the most uncomfortable seat on which I ever satten. The waiting staff were polite but didn't speak the English very goodly. I asked for what was the least spiced on the menu. I then ordered it (cheese chicken and rice) and it took too long to get there. It was so spiced that I my mouth was fire. I have done my time in chain restaurants and tend to avoid them now, especially since there are rarely good all-plant-based choices. Life is short; go where you are celebrated, not tolerated (as my spouse reminds me). However, seeing pics of their vegan entrees in an online group piqued my interest. There are three! All are marked as vegan and are not just things-taken-off-but-we-charge-you-the-same dishes. The Vegan Bowl, Vegan Burrito, and Vegan Tacos all include veggie meat crumbles and Follow Your Heart cheese shreds. All are huge, pretty much two meals, so bring a box along and pack up some before you eat the whole thing. I tried to take a picture of our food, but it was not flattering; however, the dishes looked very nice in person. The parking lot is often packed even on a weekday, and you will think you might have a long wait ahead, but nope. The place has like a gazillion tables. Service is fast and sweet. The guac guy is on the move to make it tableside for you, and I just learned the Spanish word for tips from his handmade sign on the cart: propina. The drink menu is large and has margaritas that are not made with the flavored syrup. Chips are plentiful, and we got lots of extra salsa to dump on our dishes. With so many great reviews that are recent, I figured how could we go wrong eating here? How could we go wrong, indeed? Yet...we sure did go wrong... We went here on a Friday night around 6 p.m. The place was busy but still had available tables so we were seated immediately. We also got the chips and salsa quickly. All this talk about the "spicy white dip" had us curious. A little taste told us that it was a ranch dressing based dip. Our son-in-law described it this way --- it doesn't taste spicy at first but then the heat sneaks up on you. That said, we all preferred the conventional salsa. Looking at the drink menu, an interesting drink caught my eye, "Italian Margarita" served on the rocks and with amaretto. What a disappointing drink --- it was watered down and really stingy with the booze, thus it had very little flavor. Our daughter had better luck with her "Miami Vice" drink which was a half and half mixture of a pina colada and a strawberry daiquiri and topped with whipped cream. That one turned out to be a flavorful drink. My husband had Dos Equis, our son-in-law had Pepsi while the kids had milk---three drinks that are hard to mess up---even at this restaurant. As for our main courses --- I had the chile relleno dinner which came with rice and refried beans. The rellenos were dark brown (perhaps overfried?) and much spicier than the average chili relleno plus the cheese portion was skimpy. The rice and beans were very bland. Our son-in-law had burritos fajitas with chicken. This dish has 2 burritos stuffed with either meat or chicken, grilled onions and covered with nacho cheese. He liked his dish and had no complaints. My husband had steak Azteca which consisted of a grilled top sirloin steak with grilled onions and served with rice and beans. He said it was a very tough cut of meat. It just about goes without saying to say that he was unimpressed. The kids had the kids taco dinner. They all liked their tacos but didn't like the rice and beans. As for our daughter---she had the worst dish of the evening. She ordered carne asada which supposedly consisted of "tender top sirloin steak" served with beans and flour tortillas. This was the worst piece of steak that any of us had ever seen. It, for the most part, was inedible---tough, gristly and fatty. I told her to tell the server and get the meal sent back to the kitchen. She was reluctant to do this because she figured it would take forever to correct the problem. So...I said, "Ask for the manager". Again, she didn't want to do this. She said that she ate the side dishes and had no complaints about them. Had it been my dish, I would have spoken up. Service met the minimum requirements. The server took our drink orders, came back with the drinks, then took our dinner orders. She brought the drinks but a food runner brought the food. At that point, our server made herself scarce---until it was time to give us the check. Well...needless to say, we won't be back here. We discovered that this was a chain restaurant with one being in the MD 'burbs---we won't be going to that one either! read more

There are several Mexican restaurants in this area- some of them are even good- but for the combination of atmosphere, great food and good prices, Plaza Azteca is-by far- the best. As soon as you sit down you're given the standard chips and salsa but PA also brings you this white dip. I don't think it's ranch but I have no idea what it is, I only know it's pretty darn tasty. Me, I'm a guacamole girl, and I'm pretty picky. PA's guacamole was so good I briefly considered licking the plate it came on because I didn't want to waste any. I've had several of the entrees and all of them are incredible but I have to mention specifically the Fajitas for 2. It's a heaping, sizzling plate of yumminess with chicken, steak, carnitas and BIG shrimp. It could easily be fajitas for four with the amount you get and everything is seasoned and cooked perfectly. For $18, it's a steal. We lucked out yesterday and caught a special on the Fajitas for 2 that included 2 of the "crema salads" (shredded lettuce, a tomato hunk and sour cream), 2 sodas and a fried ice cream dessert to share for $22.50. read more

The atmosphere of this place is awesome. Plus the colors (gold and red) of the restaurant promote a very warm, elegant type environment you normally don't find in a Mexican restaurant. It was a great choice for a dinner to meet the boyfriend's parents for the first time. Our waiter was super attentive, almost to the point of being overbaring. And for a Friday night, there was no wait to be seated and not too many people in the restaurant, so the food came pretty quickly. One thing they get major props for is their guacamole. They have a guy with a cart that comes and makes it to your specifications. And the stone handpainted bowl they serve it to you in keeps with the whole theme of the restaurant. The one thing they get points off for is that somehow the food managed to make Tom and I ill, although his parents didn't seem to have any ill effects. This used to be one of our favorite places but recently the prices have skyrocketed. We were told 25 minutes wait and finally seated after about 40 minutes, and I think if we hadn't been standing directly in front of the hostess stand, it would have been even longer. My husband loves the fajitas because you do get a large portion. Frozen margaritas are wonderful so creamy and not icy at all but very expensive. Our friend's meal came with some weird white rice with vegetables in it instead of the typical yellow rice. He asked for the yellow rice instead and never received it. Usually I get the chimichanga because it's always good. This time we came we got a raspberry margarita and a strawberry margarita. They are huge and strong and totally worth the price . 7 bucks. I have been plenty of time in this place, ny myself or somebody else, but after tonight I will never vksot this place. Iwas very disapointed with this service, we were 15 in my table, and they just took the orser brought the food and lift us like homeless, practically had to clean with our hand because of the poor attention. I had to ask a plate 3 times to one of the table guys, but thos one only was showing and engry face and never brought me the plate. VERY disappointed. We've been ordering the Plaza Azteca salads weekly for a couple of months. Unfortunately this week there was a lack of lettuce. Ate lunch here today with my son. Tiffany was our server and we have had her a few times before and she's great!! Very friendly and pleasant and always smiling!!! They always make my margarita for me even though it's no longer on the menu...the prickly pear....and it's delicious!! Place always smells strong of disinfectant. Try to get past it when food was good. Bad service. Empty Margarita glass in front of me now for more than 20 minutes now. Chili relleno breading was 4x size of poblano and poblano under cooked. Server took my plate untouched and didn't even question it. SMH. Half hour later manager ask if I want a drink.
