Every time my family goes out to dinner or for lunch we go here. This place is amazing. The wait can usually get long if you go during prime rush hours, weekends around noon and then around 5PM. Other times there aren't many people in the restaurant and getting a table should be very easy. The waiters and waitresses there are nice and very friendly. The chips they serve are usually cold but it doesn't bother me, I mean they're chips. The sauces they come with are very good and the guacamole is perfect, comes in a nice bowl and is hand-made in front of your table. The food there is good as well. The portions are quite large, better than previous Mexican restaurants I've been at. The sides are alright, I always go with the rice because I like it much better than the re-fried beans they serve. The wait to receive your food isn't too long even during peak rush hours. The dessert there is amazing, they've added a lot since the first time I've been there, but it's been all good from what my family has told me. I usually don't get dessert as I'm full from my main dish. My family is also very close to the manager who's very friendly and is always looking on how to make the restaurant and dining experience better for his customer's. I've been coming to azteca for a long time now and unfortunately I'm here to leave a disappointing review from yesterday's dinner. I've been in the food/serving industry for about 4-5 years and never have I taken an order down without writing it down. I get people like to test their memory and everything, but if you're rushing and out of breathe while trying to remember our order.. I know it's not going to end well. So as I assumed the order came out wrong lol, I ordered the PORK MARINATED TACOS... I received SHRIMP tacos. When she came back to check on us I told her this isn't my order she says "well they both sound the same" Umm no they do not? and she continued to take down my new order.. WITH NO PEN AND PAPER lol. So my new order comes out in about 5 minutes strangely and sadly, it wasn't my order once again. The tacos I was given looked like sliced turkey meat that's been sitting out.. when I know 100% their pork "marinated" tacos aren't dry and it's darker. It was just a horrible job on the servers part maybe even the kitchen I'm not sure but the manager finally decided to come over and see what's going on by offering me free food and coupons which I declined. I have no respect for a business like that and it's a shame because like I said it was one of the best places to come eat at but after that nonsense I'm not coming back. Our first trip to Plaza Azteca was exceptional. Many people recommended it and we finally gave it a try. The quality of the food was impressive and the service was amazing. Alas, subsequent trips have not lived up to our first experience. Service is very slow and depending on your server you may not get a refill of soda at all. Our final (and I mean final) visit was atrocious. We placed our order and several tables came and received food before ours came out. After about an hour my wife finally asked what was up and the response was "I know, I told the kitchen and they are working on it." A half hour later we called our server over (at this point other guests had come after us, eaten, and were on the way out) and told them to cancel the order. We'll pay for our drinks and be on our way. I'll give them credit about being very apologetic and they offered our entire meal for free. So the food was good but since there is no excuse for this (and the fact that service had been poor our past couple of visits) we will not be going back - ever. When we get a hankering for Mexican South of the Border is pretty darn good! read more

I like Plaza Azteca for exactly what it is. It's a cheap, mostly authentic Mexican restaurant with awesome table side guacamole! It's a great spot to go with friends or family and enjoy some margaritas. I would like to see a bit more effort dedicated to the decor and overall appearance, but mostly, I'm very happy (and full) every time I leave. read more

My family and I have been big fans of this place until tonight. I have noticed the quality of the serving staff and food has been going down over the last 2 months, but tonight's "Dinner" was the nail in the coffin. It was a regular busy Sunday evening when we arrived at 510. My 3 year old son and I were seated in 10 minutes at a booth in the back portion of the restaurant. We finally saw our server @ 535 to get our drink order... needless to say we ordered our meal and drinks so we could get our order in before the other large parties in the restaurant. Around 545 we finally received our drinks... when our food finally arrived 50 minutes after we had been first seated, my son's quesadilla and rice were ice cold. We of course had to send his food back and he then had to eat half of my dinner so he didn't explode from being hungry. The Assistant manager came by with his new food 10 minutes later which was actually hot. Now if you did any of the math a 3 year old child did not get his actual correctly ordered food for over an hour. I had no idea Plaza azteca had become a fine dining style meal establishment. The server he entire time through out the meal felt the need to try and correct me that I didn't know how long our food was taking. My sons food was taken off the bill after we waited 20 more minutes to get and pay the check. My family and I will not be back to any of their locations because of this fiasco. Yelp reviews never steer me wrong., also highly recommended by the ladies at the front desk at the Hampton Inn Reading. Went on a Friday night at 7:30, waited only 20 minutes, sat at the bar, very friendly bar staff (Hector)and bar patrons. Try the bulldog, rrozen margerita with bottle of corona turned upside, quite a hit. Food was wonderful, tortillas homemade, Luis was very attentive and friendly. I have no idea why anyone is claiming this place isn't clean it bringing up their did inspections. They always pass and their infractions are very minor. Typical for most restaurants and certainly not grounds to avoid them.They are a bit pricier than most Mexican restaurants but I think their variety and quality makes it worth the price. The tableside quac is amazing, best I've had at a restaurant.They are also the only place I can order chorizo and it comes out delicious and not chewy our dripping in fat. Best Mexican I've had in Berks county so far. read more
