My friends and I needed a place to grab some food during the HP and the cursed child break between Part 1 and Part 2. We went in for some beers and grub. It's your typical Times Square Irish bar. I had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and a Yuengling and finished off with a lava cake a la mode. Between my friends they had the chicken strips, parmesan/truffle fries, and a shrimp pasta bowl. Everyone enjoyed their food and it was solid for passing the time. They have tvs so if you're trying to catch the game, it's great for that too. P.S. It's 5 stories so if you have any accessibility restrictions, let them know before they seat you. read more

I just ordered lunch here for pickup. I saw online they have some tasty-sounding $10 lunch specials including a 10oz burger and fries! Unfortunately when I got my bill, it was $14 plus tax for the sandwich instead of $10. I showed the website to the kind woman helping me and she asked her manager and was able to give it to me for $10. It was a hassle/embarrassing asking for the price difference so hopefully they will either update their website prices or make the $10 lunch specials more known to their staff. Honestly I wouldn't get lunch here again without the specials knowing there's other pubs that do $10 lunch in the area. // Order I called and put in an order for the lunch special. It was quick and easy. They picked up on the first ring and the guy on the other side said it would be ready in 10min. // Food I decided to try the Cajun Chicken Sandwich which comes with fries. Tasty chicken breast with huge soft red peppers, and lots of avocado. The fries were the thick, long steak fries. Overall I was full and satisfied. // Atmosphere It's a very cozy pub inside. I walked in from the cold and was immediately greeted with warmth. There were about 10 people seated at the bar and a few other bar seats open for lunch on a Monday before 1pm. Typical basic good food, overpriced due to location and area. The service was good and when the steak in the steak salad was cooked to medium well instead of medium rare, the waiter quickly acknowledged that and brought us a new one as fast as possible. read more

Totally acceptable bar for a nightcap after a show. The riffraff can collect outside in the late evening hours so keep some wits about you. Robert does a fine job of bartending, bouncing and looking out for the customers. This is a great building and the pub has four floors, including outdoor patio seating at the top. The food here is pricy and not fantastic. It's also a bit hit and miss. The fish and chips have been both good and not-so-good. The french fries have been both crispy and soft. I wouldn't come here for a pre-show meal but they're good for after show snacks. Like most places, they can have their good and bad days with food and service. I've been here at least ten times and nothing yet has made me say, "Never again." If you're in the neighborhood, drop by for a pint. The Playwright Celtic Pub is A-Ok. read more

I used to give this place 4 stars because if stuck in the horrific Times Square there's one place that seemed ok, but it's a factory. Considering that today is the day after Juneteenth, we are in NYC... it is Anglo.... but not Celtic. They are playing IDGAF DuaLipa. What is that?! no gender bending here at all or even anybody who is not quite lesbian gay transgender etc. I finished a very long interview, I code the Internet the thing that everyone relies on every day including the woman who made a Putin effort to shuffle me off in my lovely Donna Karan dress as if I was a piece of crap after I bought a drink and tipped handsomely. read more

I came to this place with my dad and I have to say it was very worth coming here for a great meal. The staff was very kind and was quite attentive. Not to mention the food was delicious and worth the price. The restaurant was also nicely decorated for the holidays as well. Would definitely come back here for some quality comfort food! read more

After our terrible experience a few blocks over, we happens upon Playwright. Within 3 minutes of walking in we were seated, another 3 minutes later we had ordered, less than 2 mins after that we had our drinks, and another 10 minutes later we had our food. We were in and out in under 35 minutes and everything was delicious and super fast. If you're in the area for a show, I'd highly recommend going here. Delicious food, good service, and savory drinks. read more

Tourist trap. Place is nice but over priced. There is a first floor with a bar & tables, then a flight of stairs for another bat & tables and then another flight of stairs for the mini roof top and bar area. Ordered a Stella and it was $9. Bartender Collen had a nice irish accent that went with the atmosphere and kept the drinks coming, but definitely an over priced midtown bar. Be aware NO elevator to get to the top. read more

Food was good, service was fair. But if you are looking for the Irish pub feel this is not the place. The staff was hard to understand due to the broken English he spoke. Also not a fan of the automatically added tip for a party of 2. Overall I would say it was a 3 out of 5 but probably will go somewhere else next time. read more

Stopped here for a quick late lunch. Food was excellent and you receive big portions. My girlfriend got the messy burger which lives up to its name for sure. Had to be eaten with a fork and knife but she said it was really good. I got the turkey club and fries. Very good as well. The alcoholic drinks we got were very good as well. read more

Service was terrible. They automatically add gratuity so that means you can expect zero effort. Our server didn't check on us once, we had to ask another server to flag him down and he didn't even come by, she closed us out. The staff that brings out food doesn't know the table numbers; they run food to every table asking "is this yours?". The food was mediocre. The only perk and constant this place has is location. read more

Huge bar that's a great pre-theater place to grab food because it's convenient and there likely won't be a wait. I was seated upstairs and got the chicken fingers. Even though it's an appetizer, it was more than enough to fill me up for the entire night, and for under $15 too. That's a steal for this area. Service was patient with me while I was sitting there waiting for my friend for an hour, and quick once we did order and needed to rush out for a show. I enjoyed the relaxed vibe and family-friendly atmosphere. Feels homey in what feels to most like a very unhomey neighborhood. read more

I've visited playwright celtic pub for the first time and i've tried Times Square Sandwich from their menu. It's basically a chicken burger but i liked it very much, thanks to chefs! While a little confusing to figure out just what restaurant we were in and what the service options were (there are two related but partially separate establishments depending on the floor/door you enter? We never really fully understood....) we were able to get a wonderful warm and filling meal on a very cold and rainy late afternoon before catching the train home. We were in the small main floor bar area which definitely has an Irish pub vibe. We were at a high top table, which did mean we had to go and order things-- drinks and food-- from the bartender but it all worked out just fine. It was nothing fancy but prices were reasonable especially given their location steps from Times Square. And these traditional pub dishes could not be beat. We were there at a slightly off meal hour. I can imagine this place can be absolutely slammed at peak hours. Would definitely recommend. Though I wouldn't stand in line to get in if it were super crowded. read more

This is your typical New York, Irish pub. Great for a long day of walking the Big Apple in the cold weather. With a warm and inviting atmosphere, it was the perfect location right outside of our bus stop to go home. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and it was okay. I did order the BUFFALO chicken wrap but it was very dry with little to no buffalo sauce. A bit disappointing! My friend ordered the chicken nachos and seemed to like them just fine. The menu was pretty reasonable for a typical New York restaurant and I would go back again when taking a day trip to New York. read more

Th we came here for a late night dinner. I would say it's a 3.5 so I rounded up. Location: This place looks cool!! The roof top bar was full so we eat on the 2nd floor. Not quite as nice as the rooftop but you did get to hear the live music from the ground floor, which wasn't bad. Tip: I would definitely stop by this place to have a few beers and enjoy the live Irish music!! Service: It was good for what we have experienced in NY. The waiter did a good job of checking on us and refilling our glasses. Food: The adult meals we're very good. I had the bangers and mash. It was a large portion and extremely tasty. Went in right before a play for a quick drink. Not crazy busy and had a local bar feel to it. Ok tap list. Had a blue moon and wasn't expensive for being right in the midst of Broadway. Didn't have anything to eat but the food looked good. Definitely a good place to grab a quick drink if you need to kill some time. read more

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME! Claims to be handicap accessible and it is NOT. Even made a reservation the day before and said I needed a table to accommodate a wheelchair and they said okay. When I arrived I saw that the tables were all high tops. High tops are not wheelchair accessible. Duh. This was a pre-theatre dinner and left us with no alternative other than to order to go & eat on the street. The entire experience was heartbreaking. It's not easy to maneuver around Broadway in a wheelchair. I spent a long time looking for a restaurant that would be convenient to the theatre. I was taking my father out for his birthday; I had promised I would make it easy for him. I hope this review will warn anyone else looking for a wheelchair accessible restaurant for pre-theatre ..... DO NOT GO HERE! (I will report them) read more

Food was good on our stop to a show on Broadway. We got the Steak Frites and it was so yummy. Our server was also extremely nice. Only complaint is that the CO2 seemed to be out. Soda and beer we got were both flat. read more

My girlfriend and I walked in sat on the rooftop bar. A decent view on such a beautiful day. The menu offered brunch so thats what I got. I had the Irish Breakfast which came with Eggs, Ham, beans, black and white sausage (burnt sausage, and regular sausage, and some mushrooms. I thought it was good, but it wasn't spectacular. Downstairs is loud and tight. Upstairs is quieter. They didn't have a record of our reservation, but as it turned out, they could accommodate us quite easily. All the appetizers were good, though a bit on the standard side. (Buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, sliders, you know the routine.) The servers are friendly and efficient. The place gets busy with the after-Theater crowd, but empties out by 10:30 or so. Not bad at all for a midtown spot. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers, a different bar every week. read more

I would not recommend this place to my friends. The service was sad. Literally, I felt like something horrible happened right before we walked in. The offer in Yelp cannot be used; just a heads up. That offer was only good in December. My husband and I ordered something to warm us up from the cold. We got a coffee and hot chocolate (naturally with a kick since we were in vacation). Now I know New York is expensive, but our bill was $27 for those two drinks. The menu does not show the price of their drinks, and naturally, we ordered without hesitation. Lesson learned. We won't be back next time we are in NY. There are so many other great pubs that NY has to offer, please save your time and money. read more

I fell in love with this thanks to my coworker telling me about it! Two bartenders I have met so far for noon lunch are amazing and always remember my order and make my drinks with love! I understand that this is normal protocol, but I pointed out my neck brace and asked if an exception could be made because it's significantly more comfortable for me to sit down (and there was no room at the bar). They said that their manager wouldn't let them do that, and that they couldn't seat me until the rest of my party was there. There were tons of table tables available the entire time and when my friend arrived about 12 minutes later, they seated us, I totally could've sat the whole time and it wouldn't have been a problem. Not the end of the world and I probably could've pushed it harder, but it definitely was a little awkward!

The bartender was rude and uninterested, standing 5 min+ at the bar without even being acknowledged. Another staff member was dismissive when closing us out and rolled her eyes when asked to take cash. The overall vibe felt like we weren't wanted, even though it was only around 11 PM. The DJ was underwhelming and the bathroom was vile. The most pleasant part was the below average $20 drinks. For an expensive, well-known spot, this was a very poor experience. Couldn't pay me to return.

Keep in mind that it is a sports bar with TVs everywhere, so they will be playing the major sport of the season. The volume isn't too loud though, enough to hear, but don't need to cover your ears. The bottomless option on the weekend is great, 2-3 drinks and you get your money's worth. The bloody's are good quality, with a good bite of Tabasco and horseradish (I prefer that!) and the mimosas are bubbly forward (they're not skimping you with mostly OJ). The food prices for brunch aren't crazy either. Selection is a bit limited, but seeing as this is a pub/tavern, I think they have a pretty good mix. Overall, would absolutely recommend. If you have a big group, have some common sense and book a reservation, but likely able to do walk-ins for small groups, couples, or singles easily. This is a great option for laid back vibes in HK.
