Playa Bowls is a name I've seen come across my Yelp feed every now and then, but I couldn't tell you what they sold. That is, until I was in downtown White Plains and noticed that a new PB location was opening soon. This piqued my interest to find out more about the company, and I came to learn that they specialized in açaí bowls. I was working in Westchester the other day and noticed that there was a PB in here in Tarrytown, so I decided to head over and check them out for lunch. This PB is located on Main St in the heart of Tarrytown's commercial hub. Walking in, you're immediately greeted by the menu and ordering counter/production. The aesthetics were bright, with mostly light blues and grey wood tones throughout the space. The large windows in the front let a lot of light in, and there are stools that line the perimeter. While açaí and pitaya bowls are the star of the menu, PB also serves smoothies, juices, and coffee. Additionally, they carry snacks made by various companies. I was here for an açaí bowl; they have a large selection with all of them containing the açaí base along with banana and other components. The tropical bowl looked good - in addition to the açaí and banana, it contained granola, pineapple, coconut flakes, and honey. I really enjoyed it - it was a generous portion without being too big, the fruit was fresh, and it played against the cold açaí and crunchy granola. Service was fast and friendly; I decided to take my order to go and they provided a lid and bag for easy transport. Overall, I was impressed with my first Playa Bowls experience - they have a large variety, and the ability to have multiple flavor combinations keeps every visit fresh. I'm looking forward to them opening in White Plains and exploring more of their menu. read more

Ok yes the fruit and açaí is verrrrrry good BUT I have ordered a Nutella açaí bowl a lot and I always get extra Nutella for like $2 extra, which is ridiculous as well they give me MINIMAL NUTELLA. I love me a açaí or pitaya bowl. Yum. This place did not disappoint. The staff was super helpful. The gentleman behind the counter was super patient and helped me narrow down my choice from their expansive selection. He even offered me samples of the bases I've never tried. Eventually I settled on the pink power pitaya bowl without honey. Looked like an entire banana was put on top. It was super filling, very fresh, and delicious. Presentation was very good too. My complaint. The protein powder was squirted into the middle and therefore not mixed into the base. So when eating and I got to the center, you could see the powder. Thankfully it didn't affect the taste or it just didn't bother me because I'm used to the taste of protein powder. Either way that was not pleasing. read more

Playa bowls is amazing. They are spot on with their Acai bowl. It reminded me a lot of the amazing acai from California and Hawaii that my fiance and I have had. The pricing is fair. This is the typical price you would pay for Acai anywhere in the US. I looked at another review of this place, and it could have not been more inaccurate, however people are entitled to their opinion. "Zero flavor" (per what the last reviewer said), is complete hyperbole, and that what you're tasting is HEALTHY fruits, not some crap dosed in trans fat and ridiculous amounts of exogenous sugar. I want to say that the low review I saw earlier on Yelp was disparaging and would only hurt a great Acai place like this. Plus, this place has been open for ONE WEEK. First time here, and won't be last! Was visiting Tarrytown from Long Island on a hot summer day recently. Just got right off the train, lookin' for something healthy to eat. I'm used to açai bowls, but this place takes 'em to a new level! When I ordered the "stupid cupid" bowl I was expecting your standard açai on the bottom with some fruit thrown in for good measure. Instead I got a large bowl of creamy sorbet textured deliciousness, with a generous helping of gluten-free granola, freshly sliced strawberries, with nutella drizzled on top! As I was savouring it, I felt impressed by how fresh the strawberries were-no syrup-just washed, and the amount of food you get. I paid roughly $13 for mine, but it's worth it! I also purchased two of the cold pressed juices, one was Daylight Detox, and the other one had "mermaid" in it's name (blue coloured). They were too sweet for my liking, still delicious nonetheless, I'd water 'em down but that's just my preference. Clearly, the slow service that I experienced the first time I visited Playa Bowls was a rare exception; having ordered from Playa Bowls almost half a dozen times more, I can say with confidence that this local Playa Bowls establishment is one of the most exciting food options in Tarrytown. The acai, green, banana, and coconut bowls are all sweet and refreshing (I personally think the acai base is most worth the price), but I think the steel cut oatmeal is the hidden gem. Don't be fooled by the unspectacular reputation of oats, for the oatmeal at Playa Bowls is one of the best I've eaten -- I definitely recommend to eat it hot and fresh at the restaurant (order it to-go and the oatmeal may become clumpy). Not so great 2 bowls and a smoothie 38 dollars I ordered a Açai bowl and my wife ordered a green bowl and my kids spilt a strawberry banana smoothies. The bowls were very small and not very flavorful my wife's green bowl was only half filled. And also not very flavorful. My kids got a strawberry Banana smoothie. This was by far the worst. Zero flavor didn't taste like strawberry or banana just tasted like straight ice. The service was terrible when I asked about the green bowl being half filled I was ignored. I am so glad this location opened up! It's one of my favorite Tarrytown stops and the perfect healthy sweet treat alternative. The shop itself is absolutely adorable with its beach theme. The bowls and smoothies are always freshly prepared and you don't have to dig through the fruit pieces in your bowl to pick out the rotten ones. It's so nice to be able to enjoy some tasty fruit without having to worry about poor quality. The menu items are a little on the more expensive side but if you consider the ingredients they use, the freshness, quality and portion size it's not too bad. There are people complaining about wait time for their items to be prepared but that's because each smoothie and bowl is freshly made and not frozen in a package. A lot of the staff is young so be patient with them. All of the times I've visited this venue the staff was pleasant and welcoming. I have yet to have a negative experience here so I will be returning. read more

I hate to have to leave a negative review, but I'll never again visit this location. I now understand why there seem to be so many complaints here on yelp reflating to the service. I'm sure they have difficultly keeping people based on the way management treats its young employees. The food was okay, but overpriced. What left the lasting impression was when the manager made a young girl working for her cry. One customer was bold enough to call the manager out for her outburst. I've heard of customers treating service employees this way, but was very surprised to see management do it. This place was... dare I say... pretty terrible. I mean, pricing was fine, and the place itself was really cute. However, I was not pleased with my experience here. First, upon glance the back of the store seemed very messy, dirty towels everywhere that were being still being used, etc. Smoothie residue everywhere, peanut butter everywhere, bananas everywhere, fruit on the floor, etc. It just wasn't clean. I had ordered a very specific bowl for my daughter (who has a honey allergy) and had replaced the honey for nutella. I didn't mention this allergy, so I guess that was partially my fault, and just asked for the replacement but specified no honey. At the pleasantville location they have asked me before if removing the honey was a preference or allergy, they did not here but I assumed it wouldn't impact my bowl since I asked for no honey. Unfortunately my bowl was given to me with both honey and Nutella, which was then tossed. Wasted a bowl and nearly sent my child into the ER if she hadn't noticed before taking a bite. Luckily, my bowl had no changes. I got the classic Nutella bowl with no coconut flakes (made correctly) and the base was hard and chunky- almost like there was ice is in? I'm not sure how else to describe it. Not really smooth at all. However, it was fine. I ate it. I tried calling the store back to see if there was anything that could be done and they didn't answer each time I called. I will most likely never come back to this location and stick to the Pleasantville location, which has always made special accommodations for us! I would recommend making the longer trip if need be and avoiding this location, especially if you have allergies. read more
