Continuing my America 250 representing a restaurant starting in New Jersey in Playa Bowls, which started on the Jersey shore in 2014. I first tried Playa Bowls in Burtonsville, MD in March 2025 and loved it. I visited their College Park location speaking of America 250 on July 4, 2026. I combined this with a $2.50 individual cheese pizza deal at Ledo in honor of 250 that day only, which was a block away from here. Playa Bowls had a 250 bonus points promotion going on that 4th of July weekend. Staff at the College Park location was very friendly, at least on par with my experiences at Burtonsville. I always never know what I'm getting whenever I go. I remembered to look at their seasonal specialty bowls, but neither terribly appealed to me. I ended up going with Coco Berry bowl, which came with strawberries, blueberries, a yogurt base, coconut, banana, & blueberry flax granola. This was delicious! This was also unintentional, but the bowl I got happened to be red, white, & blue, so that was cool! read more

Bustling area and I'm obsessed with the Holiday Avalanche Coconut bowl! They made it so beautifully! I wish they'd keep this bowl on the menu. Try it if you've been on the fence. Totally delicious. Playa bowls is my go-to açaí bowl place! I usually get the nutaya bowl ( made with Nutella) with half pitaya and half mango. I love that they let you choose different bases! I came here twice within two days and both times they didn't disappoint! The only issue I noticed is that some of the blueberries didn't feel as fresh as they could have. Some were squishy/smushed so they felt a bit old. Other than that, the quality and quantity were both great at this location. It seemed pretty busy both times when I went around brunch time but they provided the order within about 5 minutes. read more

Decided to try the Goldie Mango Bowl, which is a mango base topped with blueberry flax granola, strawberry, banana, and Nutella. Wow - definitely made the right choice! It was super scrumptious and had that perfect mix of sweetness and crunch. Only downside? The price tag was a bit much at $13 for such a small bowl. As a Nicaragüense, I had to try this spot out! We got the pink pitaya smoothie and the booster. Both so delicious! Not too sweet and the flavors are as good as they look! My wife and I continue to search out good places for coffee and açaí bowls. Todays trip took us to the CP location. Açaí was good. There is a large assortment of açaí and smoothies. Only two pricey cold brew options for coffee . The service was reasonable, and the location was virtually empty. Not a place to go and hang out and study; even conversation was drowned out by the music. I would anticipate that once UMd students are back, it will be busier and more college energy feel. My go-to 'fruit smoothie bowls' eatery has been Pure Raw Juice- however I discovered Playa Bowls from a Facebook promo offering BOGO & figured why not try somewhere new. The Pros: They offer a huge variety of pre-created bowl combinations beyond their competitors. There are way more ingredients to select from between the bases and toppings. I also really appreciate how easy they make it to customize a bowl beyond the pre-created selection (i.e I was able to easily request combining base flavors, selecting add-ons, and swapping out ingredients). This made it so much easier to select & enjoy my unique bowl. All the ingredients were fresh: juicy fruit, crispy granola, crunchy toppings. And everything was made right when I ordered to make it even fresher! The Cons: At $11 a bowl, the overall product was smaller than I expected. Though over loaded with toppings it was less quantity at a higher price- While my bowl was delicious, and fun to customize, I probably would stick to my go-to place for the cost, as it was more a side snack than a meal read more

I saw this place on Instagram via my friends story and liked the concept. I found a nearby location and decided to give it a shot. I walked in and was immediately greeted. The customer service staff was outstanding. I turned my attention to the all and Inwas immediately overwhelmed. There is A LOT on the menu. I found out there were multiple bases that they use per bowl and they allowed me to sample one of each. I thought this was GREAT for business. I ended up ordering the Tide-Banana Bowl. The fruit is definitely FRESH! The Gronola bar is good as well. I couldn't seem to get past the entire combination of mixed foods together in the banana base. The bowl isn't for me but I enjoyed my time there. I may give them smoothies a chance. If you decide to go, make sure you test the bases if you're new to the concept. read more

I've tried this place twice for smoothie bowls and enjoyed both times. It's a tiny spot and can be missed when trying to find as it's tucked on a side street in CP. Sometimes it can get a little crowded, so be prepared to potentially stand outside. But, the bowls are pretty good and definitely filling. Fruit and toppings are fresh. Staff is pretty friendly. This place is hidden by tons of endless road constructions but is worth the find. I absolutely loved how you can do half/half on different bowl flavors (here I combined pitaya and their green bowl). Not many place let you do that and it's perfect for anyone indecisive! My issue was their service which knocked them down to three stars. No warm greeting as you enter, every employee was in the back talking until i stood theres for a while. My bowl was completely sticky on the lid and the sides, I had to stop and wipe it off. 10/29/22 I was upsettt when I saw them taking the place they used to be at down, but never knew they just switched locations! They moved to the side where target is next to the papa johns. My bowl was good the only thing was there wasn't much flavor in the acai and it was lowkey stiff. I asked for the nutella bowl and replaced the coconut flakes with chia seeds, and i also added honey on top. The nutella bowl was just a acai bowl because it barely had any nutella, im not sure if it was because they had almost to no nutella but it would be good to be informed about it. Coconut and granola are among the most popular toppings here. There's also fruit in case you think you don't have enough fruit already, with the most popular ones being blueberries and strawberries. Also they have sauces you can douse your bowl in. These include chocolate and peanut butter, among others. It has some premise flavors. You can also mix up your own with whatever you feel like. I absolutely love smoothie bowls so I was excited when I found this place. It's a tiny spot across from Univ of Maryland. My favorite bowl is the Pura Vida, I've only ordered one other type of bowl lol! Pura vida is really good and the bowl is pretty filling. The staff is hit or miss depending on the day; sometimes they're friendly sometimes they just don't care. I've only had my bowl messed up once but another staff member rectified the situation. This was a delightful little find. Just off the campus of University of Maryland right on route one is Playa Bowls. They have an energetic and friendly staff that builds your nutritious and delicious fruit bowl while you wait. The menu has such variety that it will take a long time to explore. Add in the fact that the two that I got were so good that I would want them again and exploration is going to take even longer. I've been to Playa Bowls 3 times within a week and a half. When looking for smoothie places I always want the smoothie to be made from fruit and not juice, ice, and, artificial colors. According to the menu all of the smoothies and bowls are made with fruit, veggies, milk, etc. This makes me extremely happy because I know im eating healthy food which is worth the price. Speaking of prices Playa Bowls prices seem pretty similar to one of my favorite smoothie chains, South Block so it is not unreasonable. A little pricey for daily use but a nice treat after a week of classes. What I have tried: -Nutella bowl (5/5): acai base topped with granola, banana, strawberries, coconut flakes, and nutella drizzle --Love the dried blueberries in the granola it adds an unexpected crunch and sweetness -Electric Mermaid (4/5): pitaya base topped with granola, pineapple, mango, coconut flakes and honey. --loved the pitaya base and honey. Oh my! This is by far the best ACAI bowl I've had in the area. Everything was good and fresh. I ordered the Tropical Acai and you couldn't tell me they didn't have those pineapples shipped from Hawaii. It was so good and plentiful I can't wait to go back. I drove about 30 minutes to get to this location and I will gladly make the drive again. My only wish is that they open more locations maybe in the Bowie/Upper Marlboro area. I have been coming to this place for yearssss since they've opened and I love it! Me and my friend used to come religiously every week it's so good!!! But lately the quality is running down. The last two times I've been I had a bad experience. First they served me old soggy fruit on top of my bowl the strawberries were literally inedible. The next time I went a few days ago I get the same thing I always do a half and half bowl and the pitaya was literally juice!!! The mango side was frozen but the other part was just melted as soon as I got it. I sat outside to eat right by the shop so there was no way it melted that fast. I usually take it home and eat it and it stays frozen. On top of that I told them no coconuts and both times they put it on there I told them I have a coconut allergy the first time and they remade the bowl but the second time I just picked them off. I hate that this place is becoming ran down because it's really good. But I can't keep spending $15 on a bowl of fruit and the quality of it isn't up to par. read more

They're all the rage lately here in MD (and on Insta, of course!) and they've kicked my $4.99 Costco Acai bowls to the back seat. This place has 3 suggested options.
