Really cute and nice market! They have a lot of vegan options and organic options! I like how they have a little mini store where you can buy a vegan hot dog, or a smoothie, etc. I got the vegan dog and a peanut butter smoothie. Unsure the name of it. It was good I enjoyed both. I absolutely love how they have a lot of Biblical books, bibles, Bible stuff for children here. A lot of neat and amazing stuff I look forward to reading! My husband got me the comic version of the Bible and it's beautiful and I can't wait to read it. They even sell organic soaps, oils, etc. it's a nice store to stop by and check out. We go here mostly every other week to get refill on our water Bottles. My husband and i found it convenient instead of going all the way to Walmart for PRIMO water station refill. Saves us a lot of time and gas since it's in a shopping plaza with Target, Aldis, Giant, 5 below and so on. They have a lot of Organic or vegetarian or vegan stuff. They also have toiletries and other things but the most products they have is more God Related books bibles, and other types of books related to spirituality. I remember this place as the ABC (no not that kinda ABC)! It stood for Adventist Book and Health Food Center! My family and I have frequented this place for years! I believe the name change only happened within the last two years but the concept/format is the same! They have a huge variety of vegetarian and vegan foods, books, music and other merchandise! Used to be called Adventist Book and health foods, not surprising given their world hq is half a mile away and their new hospital right behind the shopping center. There's a religious sculpture in front of the door, and half the store is devoted to Christian goods. The rest contains a cornucopia of natural supplements, cosmetics, and food. The collection of bulk flours, grains, dried fruit, and nuts exceeds even MOM. Wide selection of spices as well, but I didn't like that they were prepackaged so you can't buy a specific amount or reuse a container. The biggest unique offering is a whole wall of mock meat. While Adventist practice doesn't require vegetarianism, many choose to follow Genesis 1.29 and they've been perfecting products much longer than Impossible or Beyond. So if you're looking for clean food at reasonable prices, pardon my conflating Christians but "This is the place!" This place is wonderful! From the outside, I thought it was just a bookstore, but it's so much more! They have a smoothie bar, they serve chilli or soup. There is a kids corner with movies playing and toys. Lots of great gifts for the whole family and friends. They even sell makeup and skin care products!! I love this store but then again I love every bible book store I've ever encountered so I may be biased. First off when you walk in you will see healthy food and snacks which you can indulge in without feeling guilty. I'm always torn between spending time in the gift section (I love gifts and trinkets) or the healthy food section which has everything from canned goods to Ezekiel bread. They truly run the gamut. It's like a Whole Foods married a Barnes and nobles! They have a area where you can get anything made from smoothies to soups and sandwiches and I've never had one bad item from that section. I had passed this place several times and dismissed it as a store for religious literature. On the real, I just didn't want to be bombarded by "Do you believe in the sacrifice of such and such?" propaganda. After seeing their cute Christmas gift display, I decided to stop in and pick out some stocking stuffers. The low-down on LivingWell - extremely organized, clean, beautiful store with lots of bulk dried, baking, vegetarian & vegan goods. Also, very reasonably priced! This place is perfect for the health-concscious, environmentally friendly individual. Here are all the awesome highlights: -Xmas seasonal chocolates: my favorites were the Lake Champlain ones - the peppermint cream are to die for! -bulk goodies like nutritional yeast, different nuts, lentils, vanilla beans, etc. that you weight and purchase at the counter. These are also very reasonably priced and very fresh. -entire section dedicated to imitation meats/seafoods, etc. This is a vegan and vegetarian food heaven!! They come dried, canned, and frozen. -section for dried fruits & varieties of nuts; even ones without sugar and sulfer -a juice bar - which is awesome - and a "deli" with prepared foods in a small fridge next to the juice bar. Before you write this off as a specialty food store - they also carry your grocery store necessities (e.g. bread, cereal, milk, etc.) to the back left and the bulk of which are organic, high quality brands. The only religious references were tame and condensed to one small section of the store where they sold religious literature, movies, & music. I will definitely be stopping by for more baking supplies since I got some BOMB vanilla beans here for my panna cotta (yaaassss), yummy non sulfured non sugary dried mangoes for my homemade trail mix, and of course tons of chocolate to balance it out. A slightly thinner and more health-concious Ina Garten would be OBSESSED with this place. read more

I didn't come here looking for a bible or some book by Joel Osteen. If that's what you are looking for, then you're in luck. This Seventh Day Adventist store has it all. In fact, if you are the slightest bit claustraphobic then you will be overwhelmed in here. I came in seeking bulk nuts and flour. I checked out the veggie/vegan foods, but I thought they were a bit pricey. Maybe they were not overpriced, just pricey for what they are. Their nuts however are reasonably priced. I bought sunflower seeds for $1.99/lb. Chocolate covered pretzels in bulk are good. I may come back and peruse their vast selection spices since it is easy to get here on the weekends. If you are looking for healthy cooking options then you should check this place out. Be prepared to wait in line for a while because the cashiers are really slow. read more

Great food shopping for vegetarians and vegans. I walked past this storefront for years (while visiting Target and Kohl's) without ever venturing inside. To be honest I wasn't sure if it would be nice-Christian or creepy-Christian -- although even as a non-Christian I actually like the sculpture of Jesus out front, because it's humanistic and touching. Recently some people were telling me about the great food selection at this store, so I finally went in! It is very pleasant, not creepy. The store is bright and clean and the staff people are nice and very helpful. The other customers also seem happy and normal - nobody sulking or copping an attitude. I walked past the Christan gift items and made a beeline for the body care products and the food section, and was rather impressed! Much of what they carry are the familiar health-food-store brands, but there were also several items new to me. I don't know much about Seventh Day Adventists, but I DO know they are vegetarian and don't drink caffeine. (Thanks in large part to Adventists and Mormons, the old coffee substitute Postum was brought back.) So there is a very good selection of vegetarian and vegan food to be found here. They even had something I could not find at any other health food store (and I tried SIX of them)....vegetarian "oyster" sauce, made with oyster mushrooms...for my homemade lo mein. Very nice selection of bulk foods, including spices and soup mixes. When I visited they were giving out samples of a noodle dish. The store also has a classroom area in the back where they teach a six-week program on healthy eating and lifestyle. Anybody who is teaching vegetarianism and health is OK by me! I love this place. Grew up with Potomac Adventist and I believe it was bought out or the name changed. Regardless, I've come to appreciate the health food selection and reasonable prices offered. If you're plant-based, vegan, vegetarian or simply seeking to eat healthy this is the place for you. They stock expanded product lines of well-known meat/cheese alternatives and several brands that I've never heard of but am excited to try! The customer service is always amazing. My only recommendation is adding a dairy-free soup to the hot soup offerings. read more

Although I'm not vegetarian, my pops is and I still enjoy some of the Worthington and Morningstar meat substitute products. Best selection of meat alternatives. As a pescatarian I definitely appreciate the large selection. And they have like dry beef chunks you can get per poind to mix up and season as you like. And dry soy products. I stocked up on Loma Linda and Morningstar products but I want to try the dry alternatives next time. I am definitely adding this store into my monthly shoppomg rotations. And they sell big bags of Daiya, the vegan cheese for my lactose intolerant friends!! P.S. they had these whole wheat mango figs that literally are the best figs I have EVER HAD!! I love, love to cook. A common misconception is that vegetarians only eat salad and tofu. (Fortunately, I'm in a very open-minded city with many vegetarian options.) I tend to watch a lot of Food Network, and I find some of the recipes inspiring. For a non-pregnant woman, I also tend to have a lot of odd cravings ("I MUST have SESAME BALLS!"). When a recipe calls for meat, I don't fret. Seitan and tofu are popular meat-like alternatives. Fish is more difficult to recreate, but I found that the Potomac Adventist Store sells imitation seafood (by May Wah Healthy Vegetarian Food Inc). The other option is to order imitation seafood online, and that can be pricey with minimum order amounts and shipping. I've already shopped here several times already, and only in their foods section. As an atheist, 90% of the store has no appeal to me (I'm surprised that I haven't burst into flames). For canned and nonperishable items, I would rather go to Whole Foods. For mock meat, this is THE place to shop. They have the biggest selection of meatless alternatives from canned (Worthington, Cedar Lake..) to frozened (Morningstar, Yves...). They are the only store I know of that sells imitation seafood. While their selection of imitation seafood is limited and not cheap, sometimes I find what I need. Mmm, coconut "shrimp". When I feel like making Spicy-Sweet Glazed "Salmon" or Chinese BBQ Spare "Ribs", I shop here for guilt-free, moderately-priced items. read more

Really, my only complaint is the time it takes to prepare the food. Buying veggie "meat" options at a regular super market can be frustrating. Premium prices and poor selection mean we pay through the nose and we can't be too picky. The Potomac Adventist is a godsend (pun intended). They carry hard to find veggie protein options in a range of brands---not just Morningstar Farms (Hello!!!! Textured Veggie Protein in all forms, bulk adzuki beans, and even Chinese veggie "Halibut"!!!!) I can get creative with our meals without having to skimp on the portions and with frequent sales and case pricing the cost is HALF the supermarket. I like the fact that they don't stock mundane things that you can buy at the supermarket but use their small space to the fullest by stocking row after row of hard to find vegan and vegetarian staples. Yes most of the store is devoted to Adventist literature, movies and cds HOWEVER as a non-Adventist I've never felt pressured to explore that part of the store by any of the staff or customers. It may take some courage to walk past the life-sized statute of Jesus washing Peter's feet which guards the front of the store but what awaits inside is well worth the trip even for those of us that avoid religion like a Biblical plague! read more

I don't identify as either Christian or vegetarian. But I've loved this place for the last 7 years I've been in the area. I purchase gifts for my devout friends here. Like a previous reviewer said, there is absolutely no pressure to shop and buy religious books, toys, cds, etc. The back of the store has a great selection of natural and organic foods and products. I purchase my essential oils here. They have freshly made spice mixtures, such as garam masala. There's plenty of alternative milk and protein powders here. Suprisingly, they also have some of the best selection of vegetarian Chinese food. I would have to go to Rockville to buy similar products. The prices are a bit higher, but it's a lot closer. Parking is horrrendous. The Target is remodeling, and Maryland drivers are their usual aggressive distracted selves. Watch out. read more

I needed a Bible. For personal reasons. When I walked in I was shocked and amazed to see how large and expansive this store is. I wandered around, and there are tons of books. Lots of books in spanish, french, (yes english) and topics ranging from marriage, to why men hate church. Some cards, and trinkets, and gifts. They only had 3 Catholic Bibles to choose from. I don't know how much a Bible is supposed to cost, but I paid $36. What is totally surprising is that there is a huge area of health foods. I had no idea this was in here. And a lot of vegan items. So far each time I have visited the store, I am able to leave with great products. There is a great variety of the products. I have found books that I have been trying to get my hands on at this bookstore. I have found alternative to chocolate treats here. I was disappointed not find a good selection of vitamin E oil. The store offers from what I could see in my two visits a grocery section, book section, DVD/CD section, beauty section, clothing and accessories section, seasoning, health section, and has a smoothie bar. Due to the location, parking can be quite hard to find near the store. They offer a loyalty card that has not worked for me. I am not sure why it is taking so long to be uploaded into the system. If you buy in bulk, you get discount on some items from my experience. The prices are reasonable. read more

I used to live in California and was spoiled by the FULL grocery sized store of vegan/vegetarian options. That being said however, the 1/3 of the store (the rest is a Christian book store) that is health food has all kinds of vegan/vegartian meat substitutes. The canned and frozen options are always less expensive than Giant/Safeway. I have shopped here at times and found "Camp Meeting" sales were you can by cases of products (12 cans) at up to a 30% discount. I have recently been impressed with the bulk frozen pattie/sandwich vege-meats. 12 Grillers for $10 for example! I also find the TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein--a dried product) and other bulk natural items to be a substantial benefit to me at a very inexpensive price (compared to other organic/natural/vegetarian types of places). read more

I went here yesterday and discovered one of the coolest grocery stores that I have ever been to in my life. I loved the selection of healthy foods and the prices were very reasonable! I walked through the entire store and was amazed by what was available. It reminded me of a place called Westerly that I used to go to in NY, but this place has a more diverse selection of teas and herbs. I remarked to the friendly cashier that I wished they had a location in LA. She told that there is one located in Yorba Linda, but that is still pretty far away from me, even though I'm in Central LA. I just let her know that I come back to the area multiple times a year and that I definitely am going to be a faithful regular. Lotte Market (Germantown ), published a weekly promotional product advertisement in the newspaper. On the first day of the Friday sales promotion, I went to Lotte Market and there was no stock. The person in charge said to help me check it, I waited, and then he did not tell me that it was out of stock. , To do other things, very rude to customers, bad attitude. If there is no goods, do not advertise, so customers waste time and the service is poor. read more
