All right all right, they got enough attention, so I guess I can't hide them anymore haha. This black owned dessert shop opened up and literally brings a breath of sunshine to the neighborhood. As the name suggests, they are best known for popcorn, ice cream, and donuts. The original company is Capital Kettle Co., which you have probably seen at local farmers markets. They now have the shop, and those big fancy shapes and decor were made by the owners family! That's dedication and love right there. The ice cream is what I have explored the least, but they have a nice variety of flavors. Their donuts are mini and you can either go with their menu suggestions or add your own toppings! My favorite popcorn by far is the Ethiopian. Make sure you try it, and they will let you sample all of the flavors if you ask before committing. More recently, they have added croffles (YUM), matcha, and really expanded their drink menu. I'm delighted to see how far they have come, and I hope this is just the beginning. When you are in a dessert mood, support this spot. It's in a shopping center where everything but the Moms Organic can be overlooked... But it's absolutely worth the treat! read more

Tucked in next to the Mom's is a new college park ice cream spot. The place also does doughnuts and popcorn, if you're wondering about the rest of the name. It's decorated nicely, and is really adorable. On a hot summer's night, I stopped by for ice cream. The place was empty, except for one young woman behind the counter, on her phone. She barely looked up, with a "let me know if I can help you." I ordered my scoops and started waiting while my partner ordered a soft serve. This is apparently a production. I seriously almost finished my ice cream waiting.... But, in the meantime, about ten people in different groups came in. Several wound up just leaving. The one woman who was there started shouting into the back for someone to come help her. After 4-5 attempts, a second woman came out. She had been way too busy chatting with someone on her phone about her car to offer any help -- which she continued to do while she rang me up. I've been to places where I felt like the staff didn't care one way or the other, this one made me feel like I was really interrupting these two ladies' evening of texting and chatting, and they would have preferred nobody came in. I love sweets but I try not to eat them too much. However, these mini doughnuts were worth it! So cute and even more delicious. And maybe you're not a doughnut person, they have so many more options: ice cream, milkshakes, lattes, popcorn. I was so tempted to try a milkshake but next time. The place is clean and colorful. There was a little kid sitting down waiting for his doughnuts that randomly said "Why is it so peaceful in here?" And I couldn't agree more. Had a Friday meeting at work and a coworker typically brings donuts. He wasn't able to do it this week so I volunteered to do so. I wanted to try a new spot and found this place on Yelp. I was on a time crunch so tried to be there close to when they opened at 9am. I walked in and the space was so cute. The yellow decor is so nice. I was nicely greeted when I walked in and was excited to get some donuts. I was informed it would be about 10-15 minutes for the donut machine to warm up. I was concerned about the time and walked out trying to find somewhere else nearby that wasn't too commercial. I couldn't and returned to get the donuts. I'm glad I did because it didn't take too long and they were good. My only gripe is that these are mini donuts and the price is a bit steep for the size. $15 for 12 mini donuts. My former manager and I decided to meet up for a little morning treat! This was the perfect location for us to meet! We were welcomed by the owner of this cute family owned business! They were so kind and patient while we placed our order. I am obsessed with donuts so this was my kind of place! We learned a little about the history and finally placed our order. I got the trio-strawberry sprinkles, glaze and I think the dulce mini donuts. My former manager orders the pistachio, biscoff cookies, and cinnamon mini donuts. I didn't feel made for inhaling them because they were so small. It was the right serving size if you ask me! We also order a chai latte as well. Everything was delicious! I was very excited to try this place. It had "popped" up in search. So I went when I had time to discover. It's very cute and I liked how they made use of the small space. My attention was focused on the treats. I felt they came up short. I love ice cream, but what I saw was of the "unicorn swirl" variety. Not the ube, dark chocolate, Dubai pistachio or even caramel I would rather try. Maybe kids who like vibrant ice cream would enjoy that. On to the popcorn. As a kettle corn aficionado and maker of caramel corn myself, I can say that the coding was insufficient. Furthermore, I took home what looked to be freshly made kettle corn in the front. Everything is yellow so you really can't even tell it's ice cream shop. You need some lights or some brighter lettering in your signs out front so people would know that you're there cause you do have some good mango items in your shop. I haven't tried any of your pastries, but it looked kinda hollow in the case when I was in there, so maybe it's just a weekend that you have a big product in there. It looked kind of empty when we're in there quite interesting that you have caramel popcorn going on in a joint. I think if you give free samples out of the popcorn or pieces of your pastry that your new shop would be a good idea. read more

We live within walking distance of this place and finally stopped in tonight. The store is adorable, loved the decor. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. We got the flight (4) mini donuts and cookies and cream ice cream. I love the unique concept of the mini donuts with fun toppings. They were fresh and warm. I noticed the donut itself tasted a lot like a funnel cake, and honestly I felt like the toppings kind of get lost in the flavor of the donut. They were not bad by any means, but the flavor was a bit unexpected. The ice cream was delicious, when we were done I mentioned that I wished we had gotten more. I've been following them on social media for a while, and finally got a chance to visit when I was in the College Park area. As soon as I parked I spotted the outdoor area, which included a decorative bicycle and yellow tables and chairs. The door handles were ice cream cones, which was so unique! We were immediately greeted and told a little about the options - popcorn , ice cream, donuts, drinks... We went for half a dozen mini donuts, but also sampled some popcorn. The donuts were delicious and I loved the unique toppings. The customer service also stood out. When the universe speaks, it's a good ideal to listen! I was randomly looking at local businesses on Yelp and ran across someone else's review for this spot. So imagine my delight when I went to Mom's Organic Market and saw that it was literally right next door! Beautiful little pocket of sunshine, the nicest staff and the popcorn is goooood! Tried the still-warm caramel corn but went with the popcorn with the dark chocolate drizzle. It's addictive. Within hours it was gone and I was so regretful that I didn't buy the largest size (there are 3 sizes). Now that I have to go back for more, I'll have to try the mini doughnuts or the ice cream!! This is a place that recently opened in College Park. It's closer to Beltsville on the back side and is off Edgewood RD. My coworker did not know I have a sweet tooth, so telling me about this place was a mistake lol because I am going to always want to go there. The donuts are so light and delcious. I can't remember everything I got but I definitely got strawberry sunshine, churro, sunshine, glaze haven, cinnamon sugar, lemon poppy seed, and blueberry. Taaj assisted me mainly and was so nice. She had an awesome energy to her and was patient with me. I thought it was so cool they had so many different popcorn flavors. I will be back and will probably get a dozen and a half to two dozen next time and also want to try their ice cream and soft serve. The interior is also very cute! read more
