This is literally a Watering Hole of holistic healing and wellness administered through 100% all natural juices, smoothies, and plant-based organic bites. Lisa, the owner is so nice and very committed to her health and wellness vision. I ordered the Irie Thunder Juice, a concoction of pineapple, coconut water, and ginger. The prices for a 12oz is $4.99, a 24oz runs $9. You also can add your shots such as wheatgrass, protein, and a few other additions. Anything with ginger, make sure to stress if you only want to taste a little. I don't mind a lot of ginger, but Lisa asks you upfront before she goes to prepare your drink. And by the way, my Irie Thunder was delicious! Other Juices I can't wait to try are Leaf Lover (Kale, parsley, cucumber, spinach, pear and lime) and Three Kings (apple, beet, carrot, and ginger). On select days and evenings they host spoken word and invite different bands over to perform. There are lots of stools and some sit down seating for just hanging out. You will find featured on the walls, art by local artists. The Waterhole is taking a form all it's own with additional plans to expand next door. I like everything about this place. The atmosphere is cool and calming. It's also very clean! I finally got to meet the owner Lisa, who is very friendly and down to earth. Her customer service is remarkable! Now, the drinks: I ordered the Three Kings fresh juice which has Beets, oranges, Carrots and a nice subtle kick of ginger for the win! (Lol) I really enjoyed my fresh juice. My friend isn't a fan of beets so I ended up drinking hers too! She ordered a fruit smoothie which she loved so much, she ordered another! Parking is on the street and if you go on Saturday there may not be a space on the block. The juices and smoothies are made fresh but not a ridiculous wait like Tropical Smoothie so no angry crowd . My lifestyle...or what I'm striving for...simplicity and wholesome ingredients, not just a drink, but a tonic...not just good food, but nourishment and nutrients for my body. Waterhole offers vegan/gluten free natural foods and juices. The owner, Lisa Harris, carried the philosophy of food for medicinal purposes (right up my ally). Food that has low acidity and will lower inflammation in the body. I knew what I wanted when I arrived, what I didn't know is that Lisa carried some of my absolute favorites behind the counter as readied ingredients for juice drinks. Items like turmeric. Most of us know that turmeric is an ingredient found in curries, but what you may not know is that turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, increases antioxidant capacity and may improve reproductive and mental health...you see where I'm going with this? Maca (improves reproductive health, mood, skin and energy) and spiurlina (high in protein and antioxidants) also makes a delightful presence as drink boosters. I had the Beet It in a 12oz with extra ginger (you can opt for more or less of something to suit your taste). Everything tasted fresh and wholesome. The icing on the proverbial cake was the service. The mother of the owner mans the counter on Saturdays, with a couple of friends in tow. She was extremely accommodating...on top of personable. Just about $5 for some freshly pressed juice. 12 oz. Want more? A couple bucks more for 16 oz. The flavor a are fresh. Make your own blend if you do 't like their selections, whether for juice or smoothie. The coffee is organic Zeke's. The juices are organic. Everything is vegan. The coffee can be served or latte made with almond milk. Lots of space for a good, open feeling- stress reduction! They host events where people may sidle up to the bar for a shot of wheatgrass or turmeric or ginger. Free wifi. Good community spot. Prices are fair, but I wish they had more choices... I've had this place on my list for literally years after seeing it across the street from Glut, but for whatever reason never decided to actually stop by. Today I did and I'm so happy! I've been craving the health food/smoothie shops of New York recently, so this shop is the only place I've seen in the DC area that has menu items similar at a very reasonable price and is black owned. It was just your average mediocre experience. I waited too long for service and it wasn't even busy. Be weary of a juicing place where you can't see your juice being made. From visiting multiple vegan spots all throughout the country...I have become accustomed to being able to watch as they prepare your food/beverage. Not this place. The juicer and the juicing process goes on behind a closed door. 1.You can NOT see if the machines were clean.....or the environment in which its being prepared from behind a closed door in the back. 2. You don't see gloves as they handle YOUR food from behind the closed door in the back. 3. Not a single "thank you" was given from either of the women working. Very very odd...NOT even a simple thank you after paying....is that good customer service? 4. They have a seating area right in front of the register. Why? A family of 3 just happened to be sitting right there...in front of the register... as everyone tried to pay for there items... I don't want someone's child reaching for my money as I attempt to pay...and Yes this did happen. It's too close for comfort. The "great service" the few have reviewed about was non existent as we waited and waited and didn't even get a "thank you" in return.... This was our first and last visit..Good customer service is very important to us. As we waited and waited.... I almost turned around and headed out the door. This is a unpretentious super friendly juice bar. They welcome you as soon as you walk into the door. Warm and inviting. We ordered our juice and the lady explained that there could be a slight wait as the juicer is cleaned after each juice. As we waited, I can hear her explaining thte benefits of the different juices. She also offered us a sample of the Kale salad which was absolutely delicious. Tender Kale with pieces of crunchy cabbage. We got the Carrot Kicker which was sweet. I make it a point to support Black owned businesses and happily stumbled across this gem of a juice bar after taking African dance classes in the area. The owner, is a 27 yo entrepreneur. Her mom, Kathy, greeted me warmly and chatted with me as I made my selections. I had an Island thunder: coconut water, pineapple and fresh ginger to rehydrate. It hit the spot. The ginger was strong just like I prefer but you can adjust accordingly to taste. Kathy gave me a sample of their vegan Ital soup and it tasted like everything good in life. It was a hearty yellow pea, coconut milk, cilantro-tinged hearty soup laced with okra, corn and dumplings to satisfy the island Gyal in me.
