Friends and family dine here occasionally. In our view it's the best Mexican restaurant in Arlington. Last week I had my usual, steak fajitas. It was great as always. It comes with beans, rice, chips. There's always plenty to take home. Service is good. Parking can be a bit challenging in downtown Arlington. We tend to visit at the beginning of the week. The food was really good except for the queso. Possibly prefab or just reheated in the microwave. The Bohemia beer is amazing. You don't see it very often. The carne asada was on point. Service was standard although we did have to wait a bit to pay our bill. The ambiance is fun but a bit dated and in need of some TLC back towards the bathrooms. Went in for dinner while back in town. There were 9 of us. Restaurant was not too crowded, they accommodated us easily. Service was good. I had the huevos ranchero. Very good, just wished there had been more than 1 tortilla under the egg and sauce. read more

It was about 6:30 and a local suggested this place. Parking was great, the rest of dinner was not. Quick to be seated but forever to take our drink order and forever more to take our food order. Food was fine - nothing exceptional. Prices were a bit high. When I had to go in search of someone (anyone!) to get our tab, I found 5 (yes 5!) wait staff members sitting in a booth eating dinner and laughing it up. Playa Bonita in Arlington was great! We were greated right away and shown a table. A server took our drink order and someone brought us chips, salsa, and beans. The server was so nice and friendly and she made us laugh. She kept coming back to check on us to make sure we didn't need anything. The carne asada burrito was really great. The green sauce was also very mild. The kids enjoyed the quesadillas and beans. The margaritas were also really good. Baby was able to sleep through lunch and it wasn't very noisy at lunch time after church. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu soon. read more

Our second run going to this restaurant in route home after a weekend of camping. Definitely has mom & pop vibes and staff has always been great - friendly, respectful & attentive. Food is your typical Mexican restaurant but branched out for a lighter Tijuana salad with shrimp and for a light lunch was enough for my hubby and I to share. The shrimp was perfectly grilled - definitely recommend Ticket came out to ~$30 for two kids meals and the salad. The kiddos each took half their meals home, so great value for us!!! read more

We were in Arlington for the night. It was late but we were very hungry so we looked through Yelp to find a restaurant close to our hotel that was still open at 8:pm. Yelp lead us to Playa Bonita and we are so happy it did. It was on the Main Street of old Arlington but it had easy parking on the side of the building. Right next to a quilt store that I had visited before but we had not been to the restaurant. We got to pick our own seats and the service was wonderful. Both the waitress and the bus person were very friendly and helpful. They gladly changed up the menu for us as we don't eat meat. The best part was the Mole. We have traveled all over Mexico and I alway have the mole. Usually it is chicken mole but now that I don't eat chicken, they made it with prawns for me. It was hands down the best mole I have had in the states and even better than a lot I had in Mexico! Hats off to the chef. Plus they had delicious desserts! Not just flan and churros but lava cake, cheese cake, and several others. Next time I'm on shop hopping I am planning to stop here again. Thank you all so much! read more

Myself and 5 of my golf buddies were looking for a place to eat in the area. It was upbeat and friendly vibes. We decided to go into playa Bonita and the staff was very friendly and seated us quickly. We were served fresh tortilla chips with salsa and beans. Good Mexican spot in Arlington, friendly service, and they give you free chips with fresh salsa and bean dip which is very good. Got the Tijuana salad with grilled shrimp, which was great. Kids got beef mexican pizza and chicken enchilada plates, each with rice and beans and it was a pretty large portion for these dishes. read more

The food came out quite quickly causing concern as to its freshness. Was right to be concerned. The meat in my husband's chimichanga looked and tasted like it was straight out of a can and there were big globules of fat in my chile verde. $6.00 for a can of beer was a bit pricy. Labor Day 2019. We were on one of our photography adventures up in Darrington. On our way home we got hungry and decided to stop in Arlington for dinner. We found Playa Bonita, one of the few places open. It doesn't look like a chain restaurant, so we decided to stop. We were seated right of way. Lots of voices in the back. Not rowdy, but people having a good time. I assume there is a bar in the back. I was right. I ordered an avocado tostada with no meat and extra avocados. Husband ordered a vegetarian spinach enchilada. The waiter brought a basket of tortillas chips, salsa, and a bean dip. I really liked the bean dip. I demonstrated it. We had to ask for more and the waiter was kind enough to bring us more chips too! Husband liked his meal, as did I. Everything was fresh & tasty. Waiter was pleasant. A Carne asada burrito with a side of guacamole which I was charged 5.75 for and when home the guacamole was not in the bag. My bestie and I stopped in here for a quick lunch after shopping the street fair. Free street parking can be found. Credit cards are accepted. We sat in the lounge during our visit. Our server was patient and allowed us to talk without feeling rushed. Complimentary chips, salsa and refried beans are provided to snack on while viewing the menu. The chips were warm, fresh and lightly salted. The salsa was flavorful and on the mild side. The beans were standard. My bestie ordered a red beer for $5 and I ordered a Dos Equis for $3.99. Both beers were served in an ice cold glass. Refreshing. My best ordered a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup for $5.99. She stated she enjoyed her soup. By the looks of it, the soup was full of chicken and avocado. Looked tasty. I ordered the Lunch Special #10 for $8.25: ground beef burrito. I chose beans only as my side. My burrito was flavorful and filling. Portion sizes are fair for the pricing. The food here was good, but one might ask how a Mexican restaurant that appears themed around the typical or traditional family Mexican restaurant earn a five-star rating. There are so many around, and the menus and flavors, although staples of the culture. They tend to be far too similar from one town to another. So what is special or unique about this place in Arlington, Washington, making it worth a veering off I5 and heading East? I usually order Steak Fajitas as one can quickly tell if a restaurant uses store-bought seasonings or makes their own. From my experience, most purchase this way and try to hide that with extra onions. I suspected this, so I decided not to go with my age-old favorite and ordered Pollo a La Crema. I requested my order to go along with some other combos and headed to my parents' house to treat them to a surprise lunch just up the street. The smell in the short car ride was nothing short of magical. My Polla a La Crema was excellent, and the rice underneath cooking to brilliant perfection. The flavors and texture did not just deliver a wonderful meal but reminded me of what I think is an often overlooked appreciation for the generations of Mexican family recipes that have infused themselves into American culture. This place, without a doubt, delivers the "Real Deal" when it comes to traditional old-world flavor and cooking. My only regret was not taking a photo of this meal, but I will update next time. And, of course, try the steak fajitas. Just wonderful classic Mexican food, prepared with love. Trust me; you will taste that in the food. Bravo! read more

HAH I ordered a meal during the lunch special and the girl and boy charged me for the dinner price :/ After I confronted them they didn't even offer to fix it. Usually my family loves dining at Playa Bonita and their food is absolutely delicious however last night we ordered it using DoorDash and it had came looking like it was dehydrated from sitting in an oven for way too long. Considering the time and the fact that we were hungry we went ahead and reluctantly ate the food only to realize it was a bad decision because everybody stomach hurt and I myself had the misfortune of the food coming back up. read more

Terrible experience. The entire staff was incredibly rude to us throughout the whole experience. The restaurant was almost empty and it took over 10 minutes to get our drinks. It took even longer to get the food and when it finally came it was undercooked and nasty. There was water all over my plate from the vegetables and it was almost inedible. Hmmm...not sure why this place has great reviews; YELP...got this one wrong (in our opinion). Service was o.k. The wine glass was dirty (lip marks). The food: WOW! Not good! The Steak la Playa was supposed to be a Ribeye steak cooked with peppers and onions. Well, it may have been the cheapest 1/2' inch Ribeye we have ever seen and it was definitely microwaved before service. It had a very awkward smell and had no flavor (just wet). The peppers and onions were cooked separately and were average (no seasoning). In any case, we had to return the so-called RIBEYE, and instead asked for the Carne Asada (thin steak). It was average - no flavor...and could have very well been warmed up as well. Would and will not come back. read more

This Mexican restaurant has become a favorite! My fiancé and I always come here for lunch when we're visiting his mom in Arlington. They start with chips and salsa AND refried beans. The staff is always friendly and always seat us fast. The food is fresh. The beans and the rice are so good with every dish, it tastes fresh and not as if it was sitting on a heat pan all day.
