I visited play ec for a birthday party on a Saturday night. I will literally never go back. There was one staffer for the whole night. Understanding her overwhelm, it still doesn't excuse a poor attitude. This establishment is not clean. The establishment is between a gun store and a pool hall so just imagine the loitering and activity.. There were no security measures in place to protect the families or children. Everyone literally just walked in the place and played. Ppl walking in the play area with shoes on, no waivers signed, nobody protecting the door or entry area. Literally nothing felt safe or enjoyable about this place. The pizza for the party wasn't even made in house.. it was ordered from Papa John's and was running late chile. The ONE staff member was missing all night until it was time to sing happy birthday and she had the nerve to hold up a bday sign like we were in the club!!!! Perplexed. What I would suggest: If you knew you'd be overwhelmed and the only person working, the place should have been closed to the public for the night and only pre-paid birthday parties being hosted. Unfortunately, Play EC has seriously lost its appeal. When I previously went, my daughter and nieces had a great time and have been asking to come back. I decided to take my daughter again since it's not too far from home and she asked to go. Most of the attractions looked run down and the ball pit was seriously lacking. There were barely enough balls in the pit to make a layer. Play EC may still be fun for really small children but for anyone over 5, it gets boring fast. Please note, adults and children have to wear socks if they plan to come into the play area, which is inevitable because 95% of the place is the play area. You can buy some from the front desk if you don't have any. There's a small section at the front where you aren't required to have socks, however, I was informed that it costs $4.23 just to sit inside. This makes absolutely NO SENSE. There's nothing for adults to do here, there's barely enough for children over five to do. My mother rode along with me and wanted to sit at the front to watch my daughter play and the attendant on duty told her she might as well buy socks and enjoy the play area. Again, how is she supposed to do that? She would've had to pay about $8 just to sit there... While there, it wasn't really crowded. It was enough kids for my daughter to make some friends and play with them the entire time. Part of the time, it seemed like the attendant hovered over some of the smaller guests to make sure they didn't leave their juice boxes sitting around. I get it, she wants to maintain the cleanliness but the hovering gets old really fast. For the other part of the time, she was outside the door on the phone. The music from the speakers kept stopping, it was hot inside, and overall, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I didn't come here for a party. It was just a play date, and I really wanted to like this place because the kids had an amazing time. But I can't overlook the condition of the facility. Everything about the place feels old, dingy, and unsanitary. Several play structures were literally held together with duct tape. The ball pit had balls with missing foam or foam completely exposed. There's also a slide that goes straight down into a pole, which doesn't seem like the safest design. What really pushed me over the edge was the bathroom. The smell hit me the second I opened the door. It smelled like urine that had been sitting for days. Toilet paper was all over the floor, and not a single surface felt clean enough to touch. I couldn't even bring myself to walk in. It was just too disgusting. If management put some effort into repairs and basic cleaning, this could be a great spot for kids. But until that happens, I won't be coming back. You're better off going to Hyper Kidz or Chuck E. Cheese. read more

Let's just start by saying the place is simply UNCLEAN. From the floors to the play pens to even the desk where you would sit and eat is just disgusting. For it to be a place where kids who already carries so much germs on a regular go too, the least that could be done is a simple cleaning. The floors were sticky so as you walk you felt your feet gripping to the mat, the toys were old and ripped apart and everything and I mean EVERYTHING was so soooo dirty. If I can estimate the last time they have cleaned this location I would say maybe over a year ago if I'm being nice. Also there are three main slides in which the middle slide comes straight down into a pole, which of course is highly dangerous. I'm giving this place one star solely because my child enjoyed coming here before we booked a party. However, I can confidently say this is not a 4-star establishment--don't be misled by Google reviews. Many of the honest 1-star reviews can be found on Yelp. The management is unprofessional, greedy, and show no appreciation for their guests. My party décor was nothing like what I requested, and both the party host and management were rude and dismissive. After the event, I sent a polite and professional email regarding my deposit, only to receive nothing but disrespect and unprofessional back-and-forth responses, as if I were arguing with a child. They claim they've made "upgrades"--absolutely not. The facility still smells like feet, the foam pit cubes are falling apart and unsanitary, and to top it off, the entire place reeked of weed as we were leaving. They don't have enough staff to monitor guests, so anyone can come and go freely, creating a safety concern. Despite advertising that the space is for kids 8 years and younger, there were older, rough-playing kids who posed a risk to younger children. They also claim to provide waivers and wristbands for safety, but that wasn't enforced at all. To make matters worse, the candy wall décor contained old, stale, and hard candy--and this was during my party! If you're considering booking a party here, think twice. They make up their own rules, have no regard for customer satisfaction, and will take your money without delivering the promised experience. The facility was overcrowded, and my 3 year old couldn't even play on the equipment. You don't get access to the room until it's time to eat in which they didn't mention. I had countless emails and phone calls with the party director. They tried to get me to pay for extra adults beforehand, saying it was going to be at capacity that day. Glad I didn't, because it was already at capacity. The party host was lazy and couldnt answer any of our concerns. The pizza we received was cold and looked like they dropped it on the floor. There was no manager in sight and no one answered any of my calls or texts until weeks later and even then the best they could offer was passes to come back! I would never patronize this place! ZERO STARS I should have read the reviews first. The place was OK for the kids, but some of the parents there were vulgur and low class. One mother was upset because someone accused one of her kids of cursing and putting up his middle finger up at people- he was doing that, my kids told me he did. I'm guessing the parent with the balloons said something to her---I'll get back to her---because the first lady cussed and carried on as she was looking in her direction. She cussed out all of us, we just stared/ignored her. Her behavior helped clear some of the other folks out. Next thing I knew, balloon woman was standing over my kid cursing at her. I preparred to stand up as I asked her "what was going on?" She said my kid pulled her kid's arm. she said her kid cried, I told her that she didn't have to talk to her like that. I told her she probably didn't know that she hurt her and that if she had a problem with her she should have come to me. She sat down. My kid was shook, shed a tear, but wanted to stay and continue playing. My other kid also wanted to continue playing. None of the men with balloon woman said anything. as in trying to stop her for hovering over someone else's kid 1/4 her size. I didn't feel any static after that, so I stayed. We are not talking about young folks acting inmature, everyone was 40+/50+. WHY AM I CALLING OUT THIS PLACE BECAUSE OF GUTTER TRASH BEHAVIOR AT THE CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD LOCATION? Took my lil guy here for an afternoon of fun and he really enjoyed himself. We happened to come during a party but because it wasn't a private party we were allowed to stay. Once the party was over ALL the children left and we were all alone. We didn't stay much longer as it wasn't much fun without kids. I rented out the entire facility for a private party. looking back at it, it was highly overpriced (800+). it is outlined that they supply backdrops, eatery, and balloon arch, juice boxes and pizza for kids. that's fine however, it's only the basic plates not themed. on their website and Instagram. they show themed parties which was misleading. after a back and forth with the owner, she said they couldn't supply themed plates ($8) because it was too much for their budget. mind you I'm paying 800+. I asked if I could have an additional hour beings though I rented out the entire place for only 2 hours !!!! she said it would be an additional $400. so $1200 for three hours and you can't supply the type of gallons and plates I want is crazy !!!!! fast forward to event day. i purchased a lot of my own table setting. the owner had told me the day before that I could bring decorations in early. however while prepping for 1 year olds party I was swamped. so i came an hour early on the day of. they had booked a party right before mine so i couldn't bring anything in. which was fine I understand. I waited and the place was cleared out by 3:50. i asked If I could bring things in she said I had to wait til 4:30 (set time) to come in, in the nastiest condescending tone, because they had to "clean and set up for my party" if I'm telling you that I have the cakes and etc required for set up why can't I bring it in. mind you the package suppose to come with a "party planner" to assist. they finished cleaning and setting up around 4;15 and just stood around talking until exactly 4:30. when we got in they did help bring things in no help with set up. the bathroom was not "cleaned" or stocked for guest to wash hands. the mats were dirty, and they ordered the pizza way ahead of time so it was cold. the manager turned the heat up to 76 because they said it would affect their bill. there are kids running around hot and they were only worried about the bill. they turned the music off so the kids played in silence. they weren't inviting and I honestly regret booking with them but the deposit was nonrefundable after all the empty clauses they had. the "party planner" didn't assist with clean up either. for 850 and only 2 hours. me supplying my own decor. the service should be way better. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND !! read more

I hosted my daughter's 3rd birthday party at this venue. All the children at the party had such a great time that they all wanted to stay longer. The staff were very accommodating, and even when I was the only one without socks, I was given a pair by the lovely lady working at the front desk. Secondly I'm a mother of 2 my oldest just turned 2 so obviously I'm pushing a 2 seater. For this to be a kids place it's no room for a stroller, having to move things around just to get in & out the door , let alone a person needing a wheelchair, it's not accessible there isn't even enough space in the facility to make it accessible. This place looks awesome BUT the staff running the place was not engaged. 1st we booked a 2hr party but upon arrival we were told we couldn't go in the party room until the last 40 mins of the party. So grandparents were forced to go in the play area where kids were running wild(as they should be) for one hr and 20 mins. 2nd we were forced to remove our shoes on a wet floor(no rugs provided) that was being wiped with paper towels only when people complained. 3rd it is 25 degrees outside and the temperature was set to 63 degrees. These kids are gonna be so sick from the cold temp and wet socks. Despite complaints from multiple people directly to the staff no attempt was made to warm the play area. 4th about 20 mins prior to the end of the party the staff walked in the party room and started taking down our decorations to set up for the next party. They never said anything just started pulling down banners. MIND YOU WE ONLY HAD 40 MINS IN THE ROOM...SO IT ACTUALLY ONLY 20 MINS! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON A PARTY HERE! Trust me it's easy to get tricked the decor is cute. The location is convenient but the lackluster service and cold pizza you are almost forced to buy for food isn't worth it. If you plan to attend an event here please read WELL and even when you read ask questions before you attend because the terms clearly can be changed between when you register and when you attend*** I registered for this event July20th. Note the photos provided from Facebook along with the date!! July 30th-- I registered for the summer fest event for this evening for three children and received an email confirmation saying my total was FREE. Only to attend the event and be notified that only the first child is free and each extra child would be $15 (which ultimately was paid because my children were excited). In my confusion I sought out one of the workers and was informed that the owner changed the terms of the event 3 days ago or 3 days after posting and all the children were supposed to be free prompting her to not bring her own children at the same cost !!!!!!!! Furthermore, I still wanted to make sure that I wasn't confused for what I signed up for and asked another parent who is in attendance and she also felt swindled because when registering she also was not informed that there was a charge for additional children. I think it is very poor business for a fairly new establishment to operate this way. If you wanted your customers to pay the form could have easily asked for a payment at the time of registration. Lastly, when I first supported this business it was fairly new at its opening I understand the purpose of asking the guests to remove their shoes but make sure to have the premises cleaned the floors were disgusting. If I could leave ZERO stars I would! My gut feeling was to not book here, but I did anyway, and I regret it now! First of all the birthday parties are highly over priced. $385 for 2 hours and just for ONE more hour the price dramatically increases to an extra $215. Just for ONE more hour!! If you choose to bring your own food, you have to pay them, which I think is insane. They only give juice boxes for the children so the adults have NOTHING to drink, after eating a meal and dessert. If I wanted drinks for the adults I had to pay AGAIN for individual sodas! I just paid you'll $600 and I still have to pay for some of my guests to have beverages? Insane!! The pizza was sitting in a warmer before I had even got there!!!!!!!!! Nasty!!!! When the "party host" brung the pizza she just sat it down and walked away. When I went to open the pizza boxes, the pizza confirmed my suspicions about the warmer, because it looked old as if it was sitting for a long time! I had to complain about that and they wanted the pizza back and had ordered me new pizzas. The "party host" never introduced themselves, never assisted me with the timing in which everything is done so I was all over the place with trying to figure out when to eat and sing happy birthday because I'm used to other places doing that for you with a REAL party host. The place is very run down. Toys are dirty! Advertising non working bumper cars. Ball pit is dirty. They want you to not wear socks or you'll be charged $250 but already dirty!!! Then the kicker is they let us roll the strollers right over the mats!!! If you would charge me $250 for wearing shoes wtf is the difference of rolling dirty stroller wheels across the mat!? We visited Play EC for my granddaughter's second birthday. The manager and staff are were friendly and courteous, which made it that much easier to plan a private party that included 30 children. The space was nice and clean AND the party room was decorated beautifully. My granddaughter and her guests enjoyed themselves; they had a blasts. This was our first time there but won't be our last. We will be visiting again, just so she can play. I was definitely a happy customer!!! read more
