Don't be fooled by the size of the store, it is full of great toys and books. Some of my kids favorite toys come from this store. I week often do the detour from Lincoln park to go shopping here. I love this little shop in Logan Square. It took me a while to get in there, fearing a snooty child's boutique where everything was overpriced. Not so! They have a variety of price points and I observed the staff being very open about pricing, and offering a variety of options, which will makes customers happy and make them more marketable. The layout is great for a smaller shop. Anything in a bin on the floor is safe for little hands, and my 1 year old got to try some new things. We walked out of there with some local Chicago gifts for my niece who lives out of state, as well as some great recommendations from the staff for books and small toys to take on a flight with my son. And bonus! Free gift wrap! I just signed up on Facebook too, and it seems they offer little events and gatherings as well so I will have to check it out. I stopped in to buy a birthday gift for a 6 year old boy that is very special to me and was BLOWN away at how helpful the staff was. She asked some questions to get an idea of the things he likes, showed gifts in a lot of different price points and then wrapped it for me. I love this store. The Papo figurines are incredible. Pretty good selection of Schleich animals, too. Much better than the same four horses and a dog you always see at Target. Prices really are comparable to what you would pay online, at MindWare, or even at Target. There doesn't seem to be the huge markup one would expect of a boutique toy store. They do a beautiful job gift-wrapping. It does skew a little bit young, though, so if you're looking for the 8-12 set you might be out of luck unless your kid is really into the aforementioned figurines. read more

This store is awesome! I was skeptical when the sign went up a year or two ago, thinking it would end up being some overpriced toy store that woudln't really serve a purpose. But I was wrong! I'm so glad we had this place when we lived in Logan Square. Went there on countless weekends to get my son little toys, and also found some great birthday presents for kids there. The staff are super nice and helpful, and they wrap up gifts beautifully. The thing I love (especially on those "Oh my god, stop crying dude!" days) is that they really do have a great assortment of toys in all price ranges. You can get something for $2 or something for $100. It's up to you! read more

Yeah, this place is pretty dang great. Now that my daughter's started kindergarten we have birthday parties to go to at least once a month, so it's easy to pop over to Play after her ballet class and pick out fun gifts for her friends. Their gift wrapping is a gift to me -- one less thing to do on a Saturday afternoon -- and the staff is charming and helpful. Nice selection of toys for such a small space, too. I suspect they'll be seeing us once a month or so for the forseeable future. read more

This cute toy store makes it easy to spoil my friends' kids! They have a wonderful collection of toys for boys and girls, and a few little surprises for the kid in all of us. Recently checked out the new location in Lincoln Park, as we were really excited to have a new small shop toy store in our neighborhood! The store is great- wide variety of toys, games, art & crafts and baby gifts. The store however could use more staff. There was one person when we went in there who was so involved with another customer that we weren't greeted, couldn't ask questions, and ultimately left with a lot less than we would have, could we have gotten some customer service. There's a lot of things in there so it's easy to miss a lot and having someone navigate or point you in the right direction is helpful. In those situations, why not just go to Target? Bummer, it's a neighborhood spot and we have two small kids so I hope it gets staffed properly and would be a place we could come back to again. Love this store! They have clever and unique gifts for children of all ages, and a lot of wooden toys for toddlers, which is important to me because we try to avoid plastic when we can. The children's book selection is also pretty special, especially the series of board books of classics like "Moby Dick," "Pride and Prejudice," "Romeo and Juliet," etc. I can't say enough about this toy store, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and I'm so thankful to have it in my neighborhood! read more

I love this toy store! The owner is extremely nice and I am so glad to have a place in the neighborhood to buy birthday gifts for kids (which tends to be a weekly event). When I went into the store needing 3 gifts for school friends of my kids, I told the owner exactly what I was looking for, nice gifts, under $20 that are age appropriate. She took me directly to what I needed and then wrapped it as a courtesy (I came to depend on this being a fan of Building Blocks and Timeless toys). I would like to see some more unique toys that I haven't seen at other stores similar to what they sell at Kid-O NYC or from local/ Etsy people. It is always such a chore to find a great present for a kid you just don't know what to buy for. I try to avoid the impersonal gift card option as often as possible, but the thought of going to a toy super store makes my shudder. Enter *play. The store is delightful. The selection is surprisingly vast for such a small space. It is also really well organized, so it is easy to hone in on something by gender, age, interest, etc. The owner is an absolute joy. I love the little touches like pre-party gatherings for parents going to a party in the neighborhood, so they can coordinate presents and the free (and adorable) gift wrapping. Sometimes, stores like this are on the expensive side, but there were so many items at so many price points. We just ran in for my son's classmate's birthday gift and scored a set of cute bamboo race cars for under $20. I wish *play was closer to home. this is one of my favorite shops in logan square. everything in there is wonderful - whenever i am buying gifts it takes me at least 30 minutes to decide because i love everything in there. the price will not break your bank (though of course a little more expensive than say, target). and, they have complimentary gift wrapping for every occasion, which always looks amazing and i mean, come on, you don't have to wrap the freaking presents yourself. love this store. read more

Every time I walk by this store on the way to or from the Logan Square farmers' market I have a hard time not buying everything. The things I have purchased have all been high-quality. I bought a walker toy for my daughter that helped her start walking at 9 months and looked beautiful in the pictures for our holiday cards. The toys aren't particularly cheap, but they are priced well for what they are. I appreciate the thoughtful selection. It's nice to have a toy store where I don't have to walk through the usual barrage of electronic crap. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place! My husband & I went in on a hectic Saturday morning to buy bday presents for our nephews who were turning 4 & 7. The place has an amazing selection for such a relatively small store & as others have noted, they are much more interesting toys than you'll find in a chain store. We were able to get a really nice assortment of art supplies and books for the 7 year old plus a kid sized engineer's helmet & this cool digging toy that turns your whole arm into a mini industrial shovel (it was the hit of the party) for the 4 year old. Add to that the incredibly nice surprise of free & beautiful gift wrapping & they made me a customer for life. I've been back already to pick up some art supplies for myself. My only minor criticism is that they could use a dedicated wrapper on weekends... There were a couple of miffed looking customers waiting to have questions while the woman behind the counter wrapped our multiple gifts. read more
