My frst visit to Platos Closet Orem was successful, I brought in a few bags of clothing to sale, they bought most of it for a fair price. The second visit I took in a few bags to sale and they bought nothing. Today, I took in four bags of clothing, mostly nice jeans that I just don't wear, three designer bags, and some shirts, they offered me $10 for a designer bag and wallet, I declined. I left with everything I took in to sale, I was very disappointed, I won't go back. Why send me advertisements to go in when you never buy anything? Big bummer! read more

I've had a better experience my last few visits! Although they do price up their Lululemon to ridiculous prices, it's a big store. Things still feel crammed so I recommend having a lot of time and not coming when you're in a hurry. You have to dig, but there have been a lot of a hidden gems during my last few visits. First time visiting today and because of timing, their clearance section is an additional 50% off. Had a good selection of brand-name jeans so I scored myself a pair half off the listed price! Super cute jackets and everything seemed to be in great used condition so it's definitely a buyer's market when it comes to going here at the time I did because of the extra 50 off of clearance. I did not (nor will not probably) sell clothes here due to the previous reviews of them being super picky and only giving a tiny fraction for your clothes when it comes to buying them off of you. I have a love/hate relationship with Plato's Closet-especially this location. I swear that they have a cutoff of 10% of things that a person brings in to sell, they will actually buy. I've brought in some great, on-trend, still with the tag on pieces from higher end (Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, TopShop, Banana Republic, etc.) that they haven't bought, but then see some garbage on their racks. As a shopper, I feel like it is very feast or famine here. I either come in and find nothing or a single item I want, or I make out like a thief. Maybe it's because there is high turnover with the staff, so some staff but better pieces than others-idk! For a Plato's that is so full, they keep things pretty organized, but I hate that if I walk around the store too long holding hangers, I get black marks on my hands from how grimy they are. read more

there is way too much inventory on the sales floor constantly, it makes the entire store nearly unshoppable with how much is shoved onto racks. they don't pay well for really nice brands and then go and resell the stuff you gave them for way more money than they gave you. i'm also unsure on what they value when it comes to choosing clothing to buy.. some of the stuff on the sales floor is incredibly cheap and not fashionable but they seem extremely picky with clothes i bring in. the amount of shein and romwe is a bit much. the customer service is definitely not the best either. read more

It was my first time visiting Orem and Plato's Closet. They had a good selection of brand clothing so I brought myself a pair of Dickie Jeans and Lulu Lemon Gym set. I strongly agree with the reviews about not even trying to sell your clothes! I wanted to try sell my clothes just to try my luck, and ended up filling 5 bags of clothes. Nonetheless, after almost 1.5 hours, they told me that none of the clothes were accepted as the styles brought in have not been good sellers in the past. They also said that there are some signs of general wear and tear. However, some clothes in the store aren't even in great condition, and have more signs of wear and tear than the ones I brought in. Additionally, all the clothes brought in were only worn a few times, and were all branded clothes, such as Cotopaxi, Banana Republic, Cotton On, Forever 21, Roxy etc. I won't even bother coming with my bags next time! Absolute worst place to sell your clothes. Dropped off 4 bags and they asked me to stay while they go through them, I asked if I could just run some errands and come back and they said no because i had over 3 bags. The wait time was over an hour. I ended up staying over an hour and a half. It's literally a bunch of 16 year olds running this place with no managers. Train wreck. Do not sell here! read more

This place is ridiculous. They have told me many times that my clothes are out of style or have too much wear and tear, yet I look at all their clothes that are from SHEIN and have stains. I once watched them go through my boyfriends bag, the lady going through the clothes only checked the tags, not even the style of shirt or the condition it's in. First of all their return policy is pretty bad. You have a few days to return it for cash and if you wait longer than like a week then you only get store credit. I brought in like 200 items of clothing. Some were outdated but I was sure they would take at least a fourth of it! They wanted 4 things. They wanted $3 for this expensive never-worn adorable boutique top. While I had many name brand dresses with tags still on, they instead bought the ugly boots I had. Totally unpredictable. For hauling 5 boxes of stuff from home, it wasn't worth an hour wait and $10. Lots of the clothes I found in store were old and dingy. NOT worth the price when they were piling and had holes. I brought this up to the girl working and she said she could give me 15% off but I wouldn't be able to return anything. Store is organized pretty strangely. I think for a thrift store like this- they would be better off organizing by size and then style. Instead there's like a rack of long sleeve shirts S-L. And then wait- there's another rack of long sleeve shirts. Wait, one more? Why not have "small long sleeve shirts" all on a rack and then medium and so forth? I have found some cute things there. But overall I don't think the quality or "style" is all they hype it up to be. If you're going to be a thrift store- have thrift prices. If you're going to be a fashion store- have good quality items. You can't peg yourself as both while having dingy items that cost a fortune. ‍ Staff is always pretty good at least. Not the best place to sell your clothes, but if you are there to shop, this Plato's Closet is AMAZING. I never walk out of this store empty handed. I can go in looking for a specific size and style of clothing and I don't have a hard time finding what I'm looking for which I feel like is rare for a second hand clothing shop. Although the service can be a little slow, the deals at Plato's Closet are definitely worth the wait! They are very picky with brand and newness of the clothes and are consistently extremely well stocked. Because of this, it can be hard to sell clothes to them. Additionally, there's a decent rewards program through an app (this is fairly new), where you get a point for every $20 you spend and then after certain numbers of points you can unlock $5 off a purchase, $10 off, etc. read more

I brought in probably over 50 clothing items and they didn't except a single one of them because they said they had discoloration. 95% of the clothing I brought in had only been worn a couple times and had no discoloration. The clothes that they take and that they sell in that store look like they came from 2012. I'm not sure who decides what or how the process works but I was very disappointed with my interaction would not recommend taking yourself there !!!! read more

I was double charged for my order which was nearly 80$. I spoke to my bank who said in fact they did double charge me. The owner advised me that it could have been fraud, yet i used apple pay to pay. So she was no help with helping me get my money back. Be careful, I'm Super disappointed as a single mom and right before the holidays I was charged twice and she was no help. I will never go here again. Also the front girl that checked me out was super rude, didn't say a word to me the whole entire time while checking me out. Horrible attitude. My daughter currently works here up in Orem Utah as a college student and they treat her very badly! A few weeks ago we had to put our dog to sleep and she called to let them know she may not be in and then decided she would go in so she did when she got there for her shift they said we think you need some time we got your shifts covered for the weekend, so she went home to grief! Well after that they started giving her only these stupid call in shifts and they never have her come in! She has not worked now a full week! DO NOT waste you're time trying to sell your nice clothes here. You'll end up with a couple of bucks and a lot of frustration. I don't know how their employees are trained on choosing clothes to buy and pricing, because it doesn't make any sense to me. I don't want to be that butt-hurt customer who's mad about being told her clothes aren't trendy or stylish enough, but come on .... I brought in several pairs of brand new (with tags), knee-length shorts to sell, plus some brand new LuLaRoe dresses and leggings, and they told me that their customers just wouldn't be interested in those styles. Are you kidding me?? This is Utah County! Every woman and her mom wears "modest" shorts and are crazy for LuLaRoe. I looked through their shop while they were going through my clothes, and there were some seriously raggedy, gross, old, holey, worn-out, off brand clothes in there. The thing is, after calling me back up to inform me what they were and weren't buying (I got a couple of bucks for 3 items I wasn't as confident would sell), they had already stored my rejected items away in a bin. When I told the worker I'd like those items back, she just kinda paused silently for a moment and then coldly went back to find them. They claim they donate rejected clothing, but I have the feeling a big chunk of items they refuse to buy go up on the shelves anyways. read more

Absolutely ridiculous. I would not recommend selling your items here. After waiting in line for what seemed like 45 min, they gave me $4.80. They took my $42 dollar Downeast dress ( BRAND NEW-NEVER WORN-TAGS AND EVERYTHING) and gave me $2 for it. It's so crowded and Social distancing is not a thing here!! I took some brand new clothes that I unfortunately didn't wear because due to the lovely pandemic I gained some weight, and a pretty embroidered blouse and another short blouse I had bought there like 3 weeks ago but didn't fit me either, they said the clothes wear old and stained!! This place is such a joke. The employees are so lazy and will find any excuse to not buy your stuff. I dropped my stuff off, got a text 10 minutes later saying it was completed. I came back and was told they couldn't look through any of my stuff because of an odor?? I washed all of these clothes before I brought them in. I've found lots of great things at this store, but one big bummer is that when I take the tags out of the clothes sometimes they leave holes. I wish they would be more careful about putting the tags in. Also, they haven't ever bought anything I've brought in. Plato's is NOT worth lugging your giant bags of clothes, shoes, and accessories to come squeeze cents out of them. I really don't want to come off as a disgruntled customer who tried to sell their clothes and didn't get the money they wanted and is now writing a bad review. But I probably will and I'm fine with that. The main reason I'm not a fan of Plato's Closet is the continuous decline in their service and quality every time I come into the store, whether as a seller or customer. Today the girl who assisted my aunt and me was so abrasive and rude. By now, after years and years of attempting to sell things here, the most I've gotten was $42 which was a MIRACLE. But most of the time, be happy if you end up with even close to $20. Today, they offered me $17 for a blouse, a brand new designer dress and a brand new Kate Spade clutch. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS you guys, what?! I could literally put this up on a Facebook Yard Sale or KSL and get way higher return out of it. I honestly could live with not getting money I didn't have in the first place if it wasn't for the giant discrepancy and inconsistency they have with the clothes they are selling versus the clothes they reject buying. There's no rhyme or reason to their turning away things that are brand new with tags, that are in season and on trend. And yet they sell some of the raggediest, weird smelling, dirty clothes. I've seen cleaner, higher quality things from DI. Don't get me wrong, if you scavenge and look really hard, there's some hidden gems, but most of the time, all of the clothes smell weird and overly musty and yellowed. Moral of the story is, if you want to get rid of clothes, don't even bother coming here, it would literally be the same as if you just donated them. Two stars instead of one for the nostalgia of always coming here as a poor college student and thinking $12 was a good return LOL. read more

But like they are already donating clothing.. so even if you make two dollars from platos you could've made zero. This is the best thrift store I've ever been to, PERIOD. The store is quite small in comparison to other thrift shops I've been to (especially in California)- but offers a great selection to women mostly with clothing, shoes, handbags/ wallets, and other accessories. Men literally just have a corner of the store to themselves. While the mall is across the street from this establishment, I highly recommend not skipping past it (as you will find just as great of quality items for a reasonable price). I went in today with a big bag full of hardly worn shirts that have all been bought within the last couple of years. They only took 3 out of the whole bag and claimed that the rest were all stained or worn out, and they most definitely were not! I also had two pairs of shoes that had never been worn either. They wouldn't take them because they said that high heels were more like "professional business attire" and that they didn't sell well. Since when were Fergalicious heels considered business attire? Honestly, they were a huge disappointment. I've seen stuff on their racks that definitely shouldn't have been out there, and yet they rarely take stuff that is actually wearable. I've read from other reviews that the Plato's Closet in Salt Lake is way better, so I'll be taking my business there. read more
