I do not recommend purchasing from Plato's unless your for certain you do not want a return. I came to return and item and had my tag but not the receipt, they told me they needed the receipt. They will almost never take name brand clothes that I bring stating that they have " wear and stains" when they do not and most of the things they have already is in such bad condition. I spend more time waiting than necessary because the girls just sit and chit chat. The employees are always so rude and snobby no matter what. I guarantee that no matter what you bring or how much you bring you'll get a quarter of what you spent, scratch that.. you'd probably literally get a quarter ($0.25). Do not waste your time. Uptown cheapskates in American isn't much better but at lease they're nicer. Go there. read more

I do not suggest selling your clothing here. They don't give you hardly anything for the things you do sell, and they donated everything they didn't without my permission. I was supposed to receive a call or a text to pick up which I did not receive and they would not reimburse me for any of it. The girls that work here have poor attitudes and were unfriendly to customers. Extremely disappointed for this being my first experience with Plato's closet. read more

Really upset with this place. Found a shirt that I really loved and went to go pay for it. But they wouldn't let me buy it. Made no effort to even try running my method of payment even though I asked a few times if they would just give it a try just to humor me. Didn't give me a vailed reason why they wouldn't even try to run my card. I kept asking if they would and they just kept saying "we can't" or "we won't" I guess they just really didn't want to money. Guess i'll just have to go to Savers or Deseret instead. which is honestly sad, because I really used to like this place, but now I never want to go back. read more

I had a terrible experience when I went for the first time today. Staff was very inexperienced and I walked in with 6 bags of expensive clothing and they took 5 of the most expensive items for 20$. I was totally scammed. Then to wrap it all up my boyfriend and I (he came with me) got home to find one of the employees added him on Snapchat by his phone number. For anyone who doesn't know they take your number and photo ID when you go in and they used that to take his information and add him on Snapchat with me (his girlfriend) right next to them. I hate to do this, because I know how hard-working retail employees are, especially at Plato's Closet. I worked here for over seven months a few years ago, and understand how stressful it is. But, I'm so over Plato's Closet. Working there was hell. The manager (now moved to regional manager) definitely had favorites. As a requirement, employees have to work at least two weekends a month. However, the manager's sisters both were employed here and worked every few months- I think I saw them twice while I worked here. Often, employees are overworked and have a skeleton crew on the busier days, despite the fact that there are open interviews almost every month. I dreaded going to work for every shift the last few months. I cried in the "fifo" room (where they sort clothes they buy) while still working. I never showed up late, I did my best, and I never felt good enough. I felt like my effort was not appreciated. On 90% clearance day, I checked out for over 2 hours with no respite (if you've been there on that day, you know how hectic it gets). We were seriously understaffed. Not only that, but they had me working double the hours I asked for during the school year. A month or so after I quit, about five others did as well. There is a massive amount of turnover here, and it's not difficult to figure out why. Almost my entire wardrobe came from Plato's. I recently tried selling back around 50 items. Every one of these outfits had been recently laundered (as they request). While I knew a few of them probably wouldn't sell, most of the clothes I had bought FROM Plato's within the last year. They bought 3 items. One of these items was a skirt that had a noticeable tear by the zipper. I brought this in because I was cleaning out my closet and figured they would not buy it. This was one of the three items they did buy. Furthermore, I know about procedures. Whomever is buying from you is supposed to ask you what you would like to happen with your clothes- you can donate it or take it back. They didn't ask me, and I had to ask what would happen with my clothes and if I could take a coat back (I was on the verge of selling it). If it was my first time selling, how would I have known? As for the quality of the clothes, I'm continuously disappointed. The first time I ever bought clothes, I bought a 3/4 sleeve shirt. When I got home, I realized it had a hole on the under armpit area. I figured it was a fluke. I bought a sweater and shirt that also had holes before I started working there. There were several times when a customer bought up a problem with an item of clothing on the racks, and we were just told to put them back on the shelves. Now, I make sure to double check any item I purchase. Most recently, I found this amazing pair of Mom jeans that fit me perfectly, but was missing a button. I informed an employee, but by the time I left, it was back on the rack (hangs up the clothes before they go back to the floor, but after they leave the fitting rooms). Jeans can cost over $20, which is shocking for a Thrift store. Not only that, but you can only return items with the receipt and tags attached. This is reasonable if the clothes they sold were up to par, but is so frustrating when you get home and find a tear. Advice: always, always check clothes here. Also, wash them before you wear them, because they won't. I love my current job, even though it's still in retail. It's stressful sometimes and it's more physical work than at Plato's. I work longer shifts and more often. And customers can be rude sometimes. But, it is a million times better than the toxicity of Plato's closet, because the hard work of the employees' is recognized and appreciated- not just with a $15 gift card and a mug once a year. That all being said, you can occasionally find cute clothes, and the employees are definitely hard-working. The management might need work, but retail is not an easy job, so I do appreciate the cleanliness of the store and friendliness of the sales associates. They also do a good job on their instagram (although the instagram rack is usually crowded and messy). read more

I don't understand why they post their clothes on Instagram because when I go in and ask to see them, they act so annoyed and like I am not worthy to see the Instagram stuff. Welp I was excited about this place at first, but turns out it sucks just as much as all the other thrift stores around here. I bought a jacket for a Halloween costume last week, and when I came back to sell it, suddenly it was "out of style". Also, my $40 shoes from GAP sold for just under $3. My sister and I come here often, once every few weeks, and we usually shop for jeans and just short sleeved t-shirts but every time we have come in with a bag full of clothes we had just bought from the mall and didn't fit (or that a friend gave to us to sell), they reject most of the items and tell us its not in style and "too worn" when nothing had even a slight indication of being worn. We aren't children, we are pros at selling to thrift stores so it wouldn't make sense for us to come in with worn or ripped items. They aren't usually polite and the store front is always a mess, I had to hold all my items while they scanned it because they didn't want to give me a bag for my items. They have almost no selection for men, it's a joke. There are tons of out-of-style items and clothes that look like something your grandma would have given you in the 90's for Christmas. They have lots of ratty and too-worn items that are off colored and just off-trend. The ONLY thing I like about this store is their selection on jeans for women. They have lots of sizes and cute styles. Everything else in the store is a miss, you won't find lots of shirts or dresses, or even shoes that are trendy. Don't come to this place if you are looking for trendy items for your teen, go to savers or tag's. They have more of a selection and a cheaper price range. I mean come on, 22$ for a used shirt? It's ridiculous. I wish trendyXchange was still open in Orem because they had lots more items and trendy clothing. If you are going to come to Plato's, wait for a deal because besides that, you will regret it. read more

Plato's closet disappoints me every time I have gone there. I've started just giving my clothing away instead of bringing it there, even if I know I'll get a few dollars. I would rather be anywhere else than inside that jam packed loud and disorganized store. The behind the counter display of bags of clothing and bins every where, as well as the overload of clothing squeezed onto racks so tight you can't tell what's even there are just two factors that overwhelm you in the store. There's usually really loud and outdated pop music playing. The workers are friendly but there isn't a sense or organization and direction amongst them. They ask you to donate your clothing that they didn't take and most often they end up using it. They take only select weird things and despite what they say, they are not "only" selling things in style. I wish someone would give that place a makeover, a lot of people bring their clothing there and it could be SO much better. read more

If I could I would give zero stars. I brought in a large bag with relatively new clothes; they're still all in style, most of the clothes were purchased in France, and in great condition. They told me it would take 10 minutes to look through everything. As I waited I looked around the store, which smelled terrible, and saw that they had a lot of unattractive, badly worn items for sale. I ended up waiting for 40 minutes!!! I wasn't too ecstatic at this point, but then they told me they wouldn't take any of my items because they were "too worn" and "they have a hard time selling these types of items"... So, I feel bad because their store is full or ugly, used clothing, so they can't take any nice, new, attractive items people bring in. No wonder no one ever shops there... Terrible experience. I will not be returning. I was treated poorly. I understand this is a youthful store and employed with young girls. But they need more training on acknowledging customers. In the process of waiting patiently for the seller to give me the low down there was a customer and her children where standing at the register next to me almost in front of me,making there purchase. It's close quarters in there, but mentioned customer, about a foot taller than me, tried her best to walk right on top of me pushing me over after her purchase (I'm not sure why, but my guess she thought I was in her bubble..) . I know her actions are not the staffs fault. But the staff didn't acknowledge me until regained my balance from being bullied and asked for assistance in my items to be sold. I'm sure this incident could have gone differently if the customer service was more on point. Though, I know that in its self wouldn't change a bully. read more

I never expect to get much here, and I know they can be picky about the clothes they accept, but wow! My first time coming here with a full bag of clothes, they only took two items, one of which I 100% didn't expect them to take and just threw it in the bag so I could take it to DI later with the rest of the rejects. They did, however, pass up two pairs of cute, unworn name brand jeans. The employee was nice enough albeit a little nervous to tell me about the rejects, but her explanation for why they couldn't take some stuff was rushed and cookie cutter and didn't make sense for all of the items (she said something about "ruching" not selling well right now... none of my items matched that). I'll take what I can get for stuff I was just going to take to DI anyway, but the experience is still full of unexpected surprises. The overall ambiance of the place is nice and fun, but it can be a little hard to shop and find what you're looking for because your size can be in fifteen different places in the store. read more
