My new with tags GAP and Banana Republic items were rejected for being "too formal". I made $200 the week before on similar items at a similar store up in West Chester. Not honest system with telling me that brand of bags are real, but these bags are counterfeit as fake since it doesnt have any authentic certificate or dont have any serial number or tag/lining inside bag. Avoid buying their used brand bag such as LV bags. Other than this, their sale shoes are great too. Clothes are good too. read more

I came here a while back with 4 full bins of spring clothes - Shorts, multiple prom dresses, tshirts. Everything wasn't super expensive but I took good care of my clothes so they looked new. The people working the counter took one look at the first bin then told me my stuff was out of season and not the style they are going for. I said okay that's fine where can I go with everything? Then one of the ladies had the nerve to tell me there's a dumpster around back! I asked if that's what she would tell all her customers and she said yes she tells everyone that. If I could leave no stars, I would. I reluctantly ventured over to Plato's as I have since my college days to sell some of my clothing. I'd spoken with a friend who recently sold clothing and detailed a terrible experience and mentioned the young lady Casey who has always worked for this store was no longer there and they were under new management. my friend also mentioned how incredibly rude and difficult the young ladies were when she was merely attempting to place both her and her husband's belongings in the bin. I'll spare you the other details but this incident concluded with them offering her a sizeable amount for the items she'd brought in but she said, she much rather given the items away for free and will do so moving forward after her experience! Fast forward to my recent experience... Being the optomist, I am, I decided to give Plato's a try after more than a year's long hiatus at selling my belonging. Let's just say, to say the service was horrible from the moment I entered the establishment is a polite understatement. Before I could place my belonging on the counter, I waited about 3 minutes before being greeted and it all went down hill from there. I was warned about the unprofessionalism and lack of respect they have for people prior to my most recent visit and I can tell you, the person who gave the warning, I owe an apology to. I can truthfully say I have noticed the new owners at this store putting their all into it and trying to make it the best store it can be. It already seems like a night and day difference from the old owner who seemed less interest in the long term success of the store and just wanted a quick buck. I will say since reopening they've had A LOT of people coming in to sell. More than I remember from a few months ago. I have seen on a few occasions recently that they have had to turn people away 1-2 hours before close (as it makes sense to do). If you plan to sell here I just suggest giving them a call before leaving if you are cutting it close to close time. To the owners: your hard work is not going unnoticed. My S.O. and I came here to sell 2 containers (1 box and a plastic bin) of clothes including 3 well-kept blazers that I don't wear anymore. We registered with them around 7:28 and got a text saying they were done at 7:38. There were a decent bit of clothes in said containers that would've taken longer than 10 minutes to go through inspecting each clothing item. They said they couldn't take anything due to not in style, stained, or torn (none of the clothes in there were stained I went through them myself). I am extremely dissatisfied with how that experience went and would HIGHLY recommend going to a different Plato's Closet, or selling through an online app. read more

I've shopped at Plato's many times but this one is by far the worst one. I walked in with my plastic bin looking to resell. I made contact with two employees and no one greeted me or asked to help. I stood by the counter and waited for the cashier to finish ringing up someone for us to make eye contact and for her to go back to folding clothes behind the counter. Another employee walked right past me and looked at my bin but no help. The customer service was just poor. They look like they don't want to be there and they don't want to help anyone. It took them like 15 minutes to look through my bin which I thought was pretty fast. I didn't ask what they selected even though I should've but I just accepted the quick cash and left. Brought two recyclable cloth cotton on bags with clothing to consign that were new or newer John Galt, Urban, Brandy etc. the employee said that we couldn't consign unless we found a cardboard box to put the clothing in or went to Home Depot and purchased a laundry basket, this is the owners policy. So bizarre. Then the employee recommended the Exton Plato's because you don't need to have a laundry basket or cardboard box to consign there. Was told I couldn't bring in my clothes because they were in a plastic bag. So I grabbed a box that was laying outside which is perfectly clean and then was denied access to sell my clothes again. People working here only work here because they couldn't find a job somewhere else. Terrible location, worst platos closet I have been too EVER! I shop at this store fairly regularly and buy from both women's and men's sections. I think it's a good store, but it has its strengths and weaknesses, and I think there are numerous points where the management of the store could slightly improve on things to result in people like me having a better experience. Then again, they may not cater to people like me. I would say that this is a high-end secondhand store that caters to teenagers and younger college students. It's great if you want trendy, hip fashions for casual wear that young people would wear, especially if you (like me) have a slender build and sometimes have trouble shopping in the men's section in other stores. It's pretty poor for buying business attire or larger sizes. I have had one bad experience here when I visited and the racks were a disaster (pretty much pure chaos, all sizes in every section) but usually it is pretty well-organized. Sometimes the racks are packed too full, and I don't like this; it makes browsing hard and I honestly think it may bite them in the butt a bit, because if a customer gets frustrated trying to put an item back on an over-stuffed rack, they may either leave it somewhere random, drop it on the floor, or place it on the wrong rack, and either way it creates more work for the employees. This is my #1 complaint about this store, and I think they could address it by exercising just a LITTLE more restraint (seriously, remove 5 items from each rack, that makes all the difference, and if they gave up the 5 crappiest items according to some intelligent system, little would be lost.) One thing I really like about this store is that the clothing is (usually) in very good condition. It's also (usually) high-quality, well-made clothing. The prices are (usually) fair, i.e. the higher-priced items are genuinely nicer. Some items though I think are better deals than others. Many of the jeans reach up as high as $18, and for a secondhand store, I think these are overpriced. I've also seen shirts creeping up to $14 and above. Occasionally these have been REALLY NICE SHIRTS and I've bought one or two in this price range, but usually the high price has me scratching my head. I say usually because I've seen some really bad things...just today I wanted to buy a shirt and the fabric was unraveling around one of the buttonholes. A while ago I saw a brand of Mossimo (Target's generic brand) jeans for $16...when they retail for $17. Yeah no. And you'll find some of those crappy Forever 21 brand shirts where the stitching is literally WAITING TO UNRAVEL if you so much as look at it the wrong way. There are also deals here though...I've gotten shorts and skirts for $5, shirts for $6...very nice ones I might add. I've bought items of clothes here that have been super sturdy and I've worn happily for years and they're still going strong. The pricing scheme seems a bit random and seems to be more a function of how "trendy" or "hip" the item or brand is, not necessarily how well-made it is. Maybe there is a logic that makes the economics of it work because other people buy into it, but I don't...so the pricing seems rather random to me. One thing I find a little annoying; the organization of this store changes unnecessarily often. I like knowing where to find something in a store, and I'll come in every 3-6 months and, although the men's and women's sections are usually in the same place, where each type of item is in the women's section totally changes. I don't like this; it is unnecessarily confusing to me. The styles heavily skew towards casual. You want very casual men's flannels? Trendy ripped women's jeans and short shorts? You're gonna find both out the wazoo. Want a nice men's dress shirt? Want women's dress slacks you could wear in an office? Maybe you'll get lucky. BIG MAYBE. I've found a handful of nice business-casual attire here, but by and large this store skews HEAVILY towards the ultra-casual end. Wanna be a highschooler or college student just chillin with your friends, or a hipster off work and chillin at some hole-in-the-wall bar? This is the niche served by this store. I would love if this store were just a bit bigger, stocked a bit more dressy items (especially in men's), and stocked a bit more conservative items in women's. But as it is this is a good store and I'm happy to keep coming here! read more

I walked in on a lady calling the manager "racist" for not taking her clothes. She explained the reasoning for not taking the clothes were because they were outdated and would not sell. I sat down my bin and checked in while still overhearing their conversation. The manager politely explained their policy and reasoning behind why they didn't take the ladies items. She continued to call her racist and watch as the manager looked through my clothes. She made comments about my clothes and how they only are buying from me because I'm white. Which is not the case, I brought in trendy styles that are selling as well as clothes new with tags. I was in need of new jeans, so I decided to go to platos closet. I've had may people recommend this store. I went in and bought a 2 pairs of jeans. One of which I bought did not have a tag, and they said they cost 18$. I went home after a birthday party (same day). They did not fit, thus I called the store to ask if I could exchange for a bigger size. They told me I could not return without the tag on the pants even though I bought them without the tags. Why wouldn't they tell me that upon my purchase... I purposely do not buy myself things because I do not make a lot of money and I am raising a 2 yr. Old. This is the first time i have bought clothes for myself in a long time and I spent 18$ on something I could have got from Walmart for 15$ and I could have returned and gotten a pair that fit. I recently went shopping at this location, the employees were very polite. The prices were fair and most items were of like-new quality. There were some items from last season as well as some older items that I felt could have been priced a bit cheaper. I had a pretty decent shopping trip here though. I visited this store and tried to sell some secondhand clothes last week, I just dropped off the clothes and left to have a lunch while the employees were sorting for the clothes. When I went back to see which clothes they would like to buy, the employee told me she found 90 dollars cash within my old clothes and gave it back to me! She is so honest! If she didn't give it back to me, I wouldn't even know this! I brought a laundry bin of clothes to this Plato's Closet. I had to bring it a laundry bin because apparently a reusable bag carries COVID. I had over 35 items containing Aerie, American Eagle, and other "trendy teen clothes" they claim to buy. They took 6 of my items. Most of the items in my bin were only worn a handful of times. I brought a bunch of SHEIN clothes as well, that were never worn and I was told they don't accept SHEIN but then on their tiktok they talk about their love for SHEIN clothes. As I was taking my very full laundry bin out of the store I spotted a fuzzy neon peace sign robe for sale, but somehow my unworn jeans, leggings, and dresses were not going to sell. read more

Selection is off and on. Have bought stuff over the phone through Instagram posts and they don't include marks or stains on merchandise and once it's bought over phone no returns. Always to much on racks to a point you can't slide clothes and look at each piece of clothing. Clothing is always in wrong labeling section. Employees have always had bad attitudes. I come here often to drop clothes off and look around but the customer service is lacking. I've been coming here for years and the people who work here are always miserable and sigh when you ask them a question. I understand having bad days (I worked in customer service for over 3 years) because it happens and I understand but I see the same people working there all the time and everyone is just rude, condescending, and monotoned. I have loved shopping at Plato's Closet for years, but this is absolutely the worst Plato's Closet I have ever been to. Nothing was organized, men's clothing mixed with the ladies, not a single size of anything was in its proper place, employees were rude, one girl stood in the middle of an isle on her phone texting and rolled her eyes at me like I was an inconvenience when I asked to get by her to shop, the employees were behind the counter laughing about another customer, and the store was absolutely messy. I am a Plato's closet enthusiast, but this one was BY FAR the WORST one I've ever been too. The smell of marijuana completely annihilated my nostrils, however clothes selection was not even subpar. I took in four trash bags with a wide variety of clothes including of men's polo, designer jeans and clothes WITH BRAND NEW TAGS ON THEM and the workers or the "stylist" personally selected items that were equipped to their own liking. Besides for not having a pleasant experience with the workers, they only took SIX items for $18.62. The store was so disorganized and cluttered I could not even walk down the aisles, the clothes (which were out of style) had some stains on them and to top it all of, they told me my clothes were out of style or old. Being absolutely appalled from the smell along with being disappointed with the attitude from the workers. Plato's closet in Newark was a waste of a trip and over all a total 5 THUMBS DOWN. read more
