Worst thrift store ! why say they buy clothes and they are very picky with it ! I got scammed over expensive shoes .. I got not even close to what I payed for at an actual store .. I don't understand the low ratings. I wanted to buy everything in here! The shoe selection could be more varied but the ones they did have were nice and in fair condition. Soooo many things to choose from. The only thing I didn't like were the prices. The were good prices but not the best. They were selling internet fast fashion for almost at cost prices. I come here quite often, I buy overstock auction bins from NYC & occasionally the Philly Port. I sell what's valuable, donate what I can't sell & with the profits- I buy uniforms, supplies & school lunches for about 35 students a year. Long story as to why I do it- but I couldn't do it without Platos & the awesome people who work there. I've seen the employees deal with enough rude customers that half of them would probably qualify for sainthood. In the possible 100 times I've come here, there was only a few times where I thought a mistake was made. In all instances, wether it was the Owner or her 2 managers- I was treated with respect & the ladies would take the time to explain to me why they didn't take a certain item & if/when they'd accept it in the future. Now for the store- Everything is clean, the floors are vacuumed daily, & the racks are all properly organized in size & color order. They have all sorts of styles, types of accessories & even Special Nikes & Jordans. I've brought friends and family here, aged 6-78 & they all found something they liked becoming lifelong customers in the process Lastly- They have a list of things they buy and things they're currently overstocked on. The awesome young lady who handles the social media tends to do a great job of posting those items online. Don't get upset if they wont take an item, it isn't personal. It's a business with a quarter million dollar yearly overhead, if they pay you $8 for something they sell for $10- the owner wouldn't even be able to pay the rent. So try to be realistic with what you have + wash the clothes before you bring them in & treat the employees respectfully & they'll return the favor. Pro tip if you're like me and moth balls make you sneeze/ your nose itchy - take half a Benadryl before you come here! read more

After getting items together based off what they advertised that they needed, drove 35 minutes just to be told they've paused buying for the day at 11:30am. No idea they did this, but ok fine. Asked if I could leave my stuff despite the long wait time, which I was ok with, nope. Was told to call back in 2 hours or so to asked if they'd resumed. Went to a local mall to kill time, called as I was told to, no answer. After experience here, I don't bring clothes I care about, however I do care about WASTING MY TIME. read more

Excellent thrift store, can't wait to return and see the new goodies they get! PROS: 1. Great selection of brands like Nike, adidas, Victoria secret, lululemon, Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Levi's etc. 2. All clothing was trendy and the women's section was geared towards teenagers, 20s, and 30s in my opinion, very contemporary styled clothing 3. No "vintage"! A lot of thrift stores I go to are filled with really old sweaters with brands that no one wears anymore, or clothing that looks like it's from the 80s which isn't really my style. Like I said, the clothing is contemporary style, things you'd see in a mall today. 4. Racks are organized by size and color which was awesome, I've never seen that before at a thrift store. 5. Pleasant staff and overall great vibe in the store CONS: 1. I noticed some pieces were priced a little higher than you'd typically see at a thrift store but everything is in great condition and nice quality so it makes sense 2. They have a really big selection of size small and medium in women's, I wear a size large which had smaller sections but still a great variety! These last two days have been a disgusting experience with this location. On 9/18 I went to drop off a large bag of clothes at 735pm. They informed me that they stop selling clothes at 730pm and refused my donation. The next day I came in with the two bags of clothes (the sign says two bags per customer). I was then informed they would only be taking one bag of clothes. Causing me to once again lug it back to my car. I was able to give them one industrial bag of clothes around 1pm, I then received my text that the sorting was finished and I could come collect the money. When I arrive at the store the cashier informed me they would only be taking one dress because they are "overstocked" and handed me $4! This is an insult after most of my clothes are high end and could be sold for a much higher price. I should have been informed when walking in of the "overstocking" issue where I wouldn't have wasted over two hours of my day going back and forth with this location. Im am appalled that this is the process. Please get back to training the team on a customer experience. Most of all I would have understood if it was communicated but my time is precious and I will NEVER come back here. read more

This place is nice. They have everything organized and even a place to try any of the items that you like. The store is small but full. Many of the items are second hand but there are also items that have never been worn. They range from clothing to shoes to purses/bags to accessories. The staff was nice and helpful. Everything! This was my 1st experience bringing clothes to a place like this. I bought quite a few name brand bags all of which may have been used once or twice the brand new name brand trench coat which still had its tags on cause it was never worn other coats and clothes that I wore but had dry cleaned never washed in washing machines - the problem is they told me that my clothes were very very worn and could be used in their store..I beg to differ. Firstly when u walk in it looks worse than a thrift store everything is bunched up and looks very very tacky!!! Some of those clothes looked really really used and outdated. I was offended and will tell anyone who will listen APPARENTLY THEY ONLY WANT NAME BRAND CLOTHES!! And whose to say that my name brand handbags will be sold???? They gave me $117 REALLY! I know for a fact I could've done better selling to strangers or online! I really wouldn't recommend this store, specifically for selling. I've tried to sell gently used items a few times now (all brands listed on their website) and they never take any of it. I've found it much easier to tell the items on my own, which always works out well where I can profit. The staff is always friendly and you have a good chance of finding cute, decently priced brand name things, but not really a thrift store with vintage finds. read more

I have come in on numerous occasions trying to sell mens and womens clothing that falls within their buying styles. Every time I have brought multiple full bags of name brand clothing and every single time I come back to the same full bags. Their excuse varies from "we randomly have so much inventory" to "we are not looking for these items right now". In all these cases only a handful of items were chosen and only added up to about $10-$20. With the time and effort to bring everything in it's not worth the $10 for them to make $50 off you. If you plan to sell, you are better off donating to a charitable foundation and using the receipt as a tax deduction for the year. Way better than wasting your time for the store to make money and you having to carry your clothes back and forth. read more

Lovely thrift shop, clean, well lit, garments are in excellent condition. The staff are kind and considerate. Items are well tagged and properly organized by size. Prices are reasonable and fair. Current fashions and classics are available from a variety of popular clothing lines. Limited selection for plus size women. Decent selection for Men. Private changing rooms are available so you may try on your selections. I wear a size 12 jean, 14/16 skirt, and L/XL top. I was able to find 6 garments for a total of $52! Plato's Closet Edison is my favorite store! As a customer and former employee, I have nothing but positive feedback for the store. The owner, Jess, created an organized system for the buying process while training employees extensively. Since each Plato's is separately owned, I know I can trust Edison's store. The workers do not get enough credit! The store manager, Kim, is a hard worker with a keen eye for stains. With the rise in second-hand consumption, the store focuses on low pricing and current trends. They carry Coach, Uggs, Doc Martens, Nike, Moschino, and so many more name brands for a fraction of the retail price. From experience, customers tend to assume they will receive more money for their pre-loved items than they're worth. As an opinionated and picky person, I can confidently say working at Plato's Closet Edison was one of the most enjoyable jobs I've had and I will always be a frequent buyer/seller. read more

I brought in a small bag with maybe 10 items, they took 4 and I got $25(one was a pair of shoes). They also have nice stuff I found a lot of nice pieces! Staff was helpful and the prices are fair(got a pair of af1s in great condition for $20). For the most part, the prices aren't significantly lower (and sometimes higher) than what the original sellers would charge after promotional discounts or seasonal markdowns, but most of the shirts are $10 or less, hoodies and sweaters $15 or less, and jeans $20 or less. Shoes start at $15. Most of the clothing is in good condition or better, though expect a lot of low-end mall brands like Forever 21, H&M, Old Navy, American Eagle, and the occasional item from Target. Plato's is a relatively small shop but the quality and price of the clothing, shoes and pocket books are well curated and worth a visit. I'm so excited that they decided to bring Plato's Closet to Central Jersey. It's a great idea, to sell gently used clothes and give them another life. Another person's "trash" is another person's "treasure"! This particular Plato's Closet accepts gently used teen and young adult clothing, guys and girls. They have a large selection of handbags, shoes, accessories, tops, skirts, shorts, dresses, jeans, pants, jackets, sweaters, coats... Lots of stuff! I brought 4 bags of clothing and shoes. The sales associate was friendly and gave her rehearsed schpeal of Plato's Closet's policies. She said it would take about 20 minutes to sort through everything so I decided to walk around the store. I found a cute pair of $12 grey skinny jeans, but changed my mind about purchasing them. Most of the labels carried were Forever 21, Old Navy, Hollister, Charlotte Russe, Bebe, Abercrombie, Express... I even saw a cute BCBG Max Azria skirt! Tops and tees ranged from $4-$10, jeans and pants were $8-$12. Most items were under $20. The guys section had lots of shirts, jeans, pants, and some nice shoes! 30 minutes or so later after trying jeans on and walking around, I inquired about my clothes. They're picky about what they buy, which is validated, they shouldn't be selling junk! I made about $25.62 for one bag of clothing and shoes, not too shabby! read more

I've always had a good shopping experience here and have found really great finds with some time and work, just like any other thrift store! Come with your own shopping bag or box if you plan on buying a lot because they are now bagless to go green, which I appreciate. I was caught without a bag once and the cashier happily held on to my items as I brought my car around. With that being said, most of the people who leave negative reviews are prospective sellers who think they're going to get top dollar for their clothes...it's a thrift store lmao. They have to buy cheap to sell cheap. If you want much more put in the work into selling online on Poshmark or Mercari or Depop. The disgusting girls behind the counter who look like they're 14 have 0 style yet they decide to deny majority of peoples clothing and accept the most absurd things. Every time I come here I always have a terrible experience. The few times I came here to shop I never find anything good I find that the place is filled with brands like Abercrombie and Fitch. The one time I bought a pair of ripped jeans and the first time I wore them they literally fell apart on me. With how terrible the clothes are in their I was extremely shocked when I went to sell nice clothing brands there (jcrew and adidas) and they denied every single item saying "the clothes were falling apart and they don't accept clothes like that" yet the shirts I was selling was only worn twice and were all dry cleaned before being brought there. I was extremely disappointed to see them turn down so many bags of clothes not just from me but from other people filled with great styles but instead they rather take worn out clothes from forever 21. The woman that work here are always rude and even if you're buying a pile of clothes they won't give you a bag and they basically have you walk through the parking lot holding a pile of clothes. A few complaints. I called the store on a Saturday and they said they were very busy and not taking trades AFTER 2:30 pm, and when I asked what they were buying they said no winter clothes, so my daughter and I rushed over to get there before 2:30 , only to see a sign on the door saying they weren't taking trades until AFTER 2:30 due to a high volume of trades. No big deal, we waited the 30 mins then brought our bags in. They told us it would take an hour and a half to go through things which was no issue, and we started to browse around a bit but the store had probably 10-15 people inside it (definitely higher than the limit for covid shopping) so my daughter got anxious and we left to go to a nearby store. They texted us they were done not even 20 minuets later. We had 4 large bags filled with clothes and jewelry , and they took 23 items. They were "overstocked in all the women's categories" and only took the work out wear we had in one of the bags. When we got to our family friends house to let them go through the leftover we noticed 3 of the bags hadn't even been opened let alone gone through. Things were folded and pressed down in the exact same way we'd brought them over in 3 of the four bags. They need to change their answering machine to saying what they are and aren't taking at the time, or have it posted on their little white erase board outside their store , or posted on their website. They also need to be much, much more conscious of how many people are inside their store at any given time, people were on top of each other. If you are "overstocked" in all your categories, post it on your door, or have it in your answering machine and stop wasting people's time. Will not be returning to this location. And stop telling people you're not taking clothes due to them "wear or staining" or being "out of style" when the things on the shelves you're clearly buying off your friends are disgusting , full of holes and rips, and often stained when most of the clothes I brought in were brand new with tags. read more

Looking to do some spring cleaning, come here to sell women's and men's clothing l. They take jewelry, shoes, scarfs, belts, jackets, pants, shirts, gym wear, and hats. They are kind of picky so try to bring in brand name stuff. They will only take two bags at a time. If you're looking to buy, they have gently used clothing for reasonable prices. Some items are little over priced but sometimes you can find a steal. Don't forget to look behind the register and on top of the racks on the walls for better brand named items.
