The Vested Interest is probably one of the most organized shops I've visited, so the digging isn't too intense and the gems are really not too hard to find. Need a sweater? Well, go to the sweater section. Shoes? All in one place. Blazers, coats, outerwear? All separated so even sifting between different kinds of jackets isn't tough. You get the point. AND on top of all of that, it is very well sorted between sizes. My mom comes here often and has gotten a few great pieces for herself and as gifts over the years. And on my last trip I walked away with two beautiful coats! One was Jones New York and still had the original tags for $400.... I walked out with it for $80. The woman working there when I stopped in was super helpful, gave me some opinions when I asked for them and was very kind. When I didn't ask for any help, she just let me look around and shop without feeling rushed. Excited to pop back in every once and awhile! All very reasonably priced, which is getting rarer and rarer for secondhand shops. I always try to stop in when I am in town and usually walk out with something new! And the even better news is that you are right on a busy street with other shops, cafes, restaurants, ice cream shops, boba shops, everything shops. So don't make the trip here just for a quick pop in, walk around and enjoy Somerville afterwards. I do believe you can bring in things to sell which I desperately need to do! As soon as my daughter was done paying, Sabine, who, up until that point had been nice enough, suddenly changed up her attitude and began to berate my daughter, who was wearing a mask. She demanded to know why my daughter was still wearing a mask, in fact her exact words were, "You're still wearing a mask. Why?" When my daughter explained her reasons for still wearing a mask, (not that she needed to explain herself), Sabine started to say it's probably because my daughter was a foreigner, "I know foreigners like to wear masks," were Sabine's words. For the record, we are not foreigners. We may not be white, but my family and I are American citizens, my children were born and raised in the US. My daughter told Sabine clearly that she was not a foreigner, and that she was born and raised in this country, to which Sabine replied, "Well, I guess you don't have an accent." My daughter walked out of the store shocked at the ridiculously racist comments she had just be subjected to from a store she had just supported with her business. We are still in shock! In the wake of all the attacks on members of the Asian American community, I do not feel safe letting my friends and family of color go near this shop which is owned by a woman who is blatantly racist and intolerant.
