Quite possibly the worst and most unprofessional staff. Not quite sure what my expectation was though considering that you have immature, unprofessional teenagers in charge. I'm willing to put up with shopping at a filthy, unorganized store such as this, in hopes of finding some bargains... BUT, when the bare minimum customer service doesn't exist, that's where I draw the line.... I walk in tonight and I'm 3rd in line. One cashier (a young man) is the only one checking people out, while the two girls standing behind him loudly bicker back and forth for about 10 min about who was charge based on their title. I stared at them unsure if they were fighting or what. Apparently they were just kidding with each other and perhaps thought it was funny to completely ignore the people in line while the poor new kid did all the work. It's almost my turn, and one girl finally says to the other "can you check her out" and I step up, I told them both that whatever that was, was very unprofessional. It's all that I said. Her response??? "Sorry but he's training".... I'M SORRY WHAT?!?! 1) What does training have to do with the fact that you are both yelling behind the cash wrap? 2) If you're waiting on my turn, given that I have a return to show the new hire how to process it, then communicate that to me! I don't mind waiting if someone is truly apologetic and takes a second to acknowledge that I'm standing there. If I were that new hire, I'd never come back. My issue wasn't having to wait in line, my issue was their inconsiderate behavior and lack of respect and acknowledgement, and it needs addressed. A simple "hi", "I'll be right with you", or "thank you for your patience" goes a longgggg way!!! read more

ive only gotten good service here one time i would take all my high end clothes here and they will only ever take the cheap dirty clothes but then tell me they can't take the rest due to wear and tear selling shoes here is a scam and they will do anything they can to make sure when they leave your clothes back that they don't want to take in a complete mess don't even bother making it easier for them i tried selling a pair of 120$ shoes and they gave me 6 dollars for them i told them no immediately and took my shoes back note the shoes were in fine and gud condition the people in there are just a bunch of rude teenagers that are to lazy to do anything or make anything easier or nicer for you read more

If you have clothes you no longer want, take them here. You will have a CHANCE at getting some money for them! Plato's Closet is known for paying money for gently used clothing. They take a look at the items and then offer you some money. Sounds great... until you take your items there. When you get there, they have to take a look at your belongings. This can take a while as there are typically other people with the same idea. Once they go through your items, you will be lucky to get $20 for everything. They are particular with the brands. So if the items are not name brand or too high of name brand they won't take them. I typically have more expensive brands and they won't accept those (Lacoste/Vineyard Vines/Etc.). Expect very little when you take your clothes there and expect to wait a while as well. read more

The clothes they do sell are usually outdated or way overused. I've sold multiple times there, and they always tell me a few of my items were "outdated" or not in style. Recently, I had sold two bags of clothes where they bought everything from one bag and didn't even touch the other. They said the other bag had outdated items, but there were almost brand new Athleta and Lululemon leggings. Everything was folded perfectly like I had left it which leads me to believe they didn't even look through it. Usually the staff are pretty standoffish and I never want to walk in there. They need to come up with better material than "too worn or outdated". Hilarious when you see some of the stuff they're selling. Use Ebay or Poshmark. read more

Every single time i come here with brand new or only worn once clothes and shoes. Every single time i come to pick up my stuff they hardly take anything. Yall they offered me $20 for brand new (2021 season Ugg's). A very new and distinct color way. Then had an attitude when I swiftly declined their offer and grabbed MY shoes back. The little girl said, you can't grab those yet I have to check you out. Girl the hell I can't. They are MINE until I agree otherwise. Ever since the new manager came this Platos has gone so down hill, the clothing on the racks suck, I can buy better stuff at Walmart, nobody looks happy to be working there. I have sold my clothes twice here. I should have stopped after the first time. But as a poor college student with lots of clothes I figured why not sell them? The first time I went the girls working there seemed pretty busy and I had two bags worth of clothes. I left with about 50 dollars in hand. Not great but okay. Although when I had to wait, the girls were in ear shot making fun of me. I almost grabbed my things and left. But again I needed money and was hopeful. When I asked what I could do to sell more clothes the girl responded "have cuter clothes" after she kept calling me the wrong name and I tried to politely correct her she said "whatever". So after reading more about selling clothes here I learned it's better to come early and on less busy days and hopefully you can get a different girl. So today I tried again about a hour after they opened. I had the same girl. She took a look at 4 bins I had and said this will go quickly. She took half a bin and offered me 35 dollars. Then she had the nerve to ask if I wanted to donate the rest TO THE STORE. I am going to try to sell somewhere with better customer service. And then the rest will be donated to Goodwill. I still can't believe they didn't want certain things like jeans that came from Hollister and some that are true religion and sevens! I would rather these be in the hands who need them now. NEVER setting foot in this store until they get better, well respected, young ladies working there. As a young woman who works in customer service I couldn't believe how rude they were and the gossip I as a customer could hear not only about myself but others in the store. Disgraceful. Eco-friendly AND get a lil pocket change! I'm a shopaholic and the choices I have to not get on the show Hoarding: Buried alive are: (1) Sell on ebay (2) Donate (3) Give to friends/family (4) Plato's closet! Ebay doesn't sell for much these days- and with Shipping and Paypal + Ebay fees (13% of the total including shipping) you can actually LOSE money selling on ebay ie sell something at $10 with free shipping, but it costs you $9 to ship. Then Paypal/Ebay charges 13% of the total cost of $10, which is $1.30. Now you just LOST $.30 to pack something up and haul it to the post office. Even if you don't lose money, making 50 cents is often not worth the effort of packing everything up and going to the Post Office one-by-one. Family/friends is hard b/c they are not my size. Sometimes I donate but while some donations are resold in the US, a lot of it is sold overseas, shredded into stuffing, or dumped into landfills. So before I donate, I bring to Plato's closet, so it has a chance of getting worn. I agree it is sometimes inexplicable what they take and what they don't. They sometimes take clothes I don't like, and refuse clothes i do like. But I guess they know what sells, maybe I have eccentric taste! Last time I did this (Dec 2017) I looked around while waiting, and took $35 in credit instead of lesser cash which I used to offset my $36 purchase. Yes I was able to find stuff I like there! I donated the rest to Pickup for Vets. Today I had to run errands in the area so didn't browse. I expected $15 but I got $20.80 cash! They took a couple Free People Jeans, J Crew jeans, Men's Under Armor hoodie... possibly some other things I can't recall because I told them to donate the rest. I wouldn't even care if they sold what they didn't buy at clearance. 2 years ago they took my size 5 suede booties by Rag and Bone that are tough to put on, and a Charles David boot in size 5 which I did not expect them to take because not that many people have such small feet, but maybe the pre-teens do. Maybe they had a tough time selling those sizes, so this year (Dec 2019) they didn't take my brown Frye Veronica shortie boots in size 5 narrow (too small for me)- because what other reason than size issues would someone turn down a Frye boot?. Hopefully they try to sell it. Anyway this was so much less effort than ebay, which takes months to get a bite, and then you gotta hunt for it, pack it up and get to the PO in a reasonable time before you get negative feedback, or worry about donation places just tossing my clothes into the landfill. read more

I love selling my old clothes to Plato's Closet! This place takes gently used clothing for teens through young adults. Clothing has to be in very good condition, they won't take anything that has rips or tears or stains. Depending on the brand name of the items I take in, I make between $2-5 a shirt, $4-7 for pants...it isn't much, but it adds up if you bring in an entire season of outdated clothing. When you bring in a bag of clothes you fill out a tag with your name and a worker starts to sort through it while instructing you to browse the shop while waiting. I usually find at least one or two items to purchase during these 10 or so minute sessions, shirts will run you between $5-7 to purchase and they feature the likes of Abercrombie, American Eagle, Express, Limited, Gap, and even higher-end designers. Plato's also carries fancy dresses during prom season and plenty of shoes and gently used CDs/DVDs. After 10 minutes I return to the desk and the associate gives me an "offer," which I always take. I buy my shirts, take my money, and head to the mall! Great service and really easy! read more

Took 3 large bags full of men's clothes in on Sunday, walked out with $100. Woo hoo! Decided to browse a bit while waiting for an offer for my husbands clothes and was very disappointed at their selection. My husband picked up a pair of shoes and there was mud caked all over the bottom of the shoes, wow thats nice. I was happy with the offer that we received for his clothes, we ended up taking a bag and a half back to donate. Would come back to sell again but would not come back to buy. read more

Platos staff consists of bratty, shallow girls with plebeian sense of fashion. Turned down my entire basket of slightly worn clothing, and rushed through checking through my items, barely looking at them, even though I arrived 50 mins before close. Sorry your employees still think hollister and ambercrombie are relevant, and that you work in secondhand retail and can't afford the actual nice pieces of clothing that come through. read more

Completely disappointed with this place. The staff is rude and slow. Went to sell clothes there, clothes that I had never worn and still had the tags on, was offered 7 dollars for the lot. When I told the girl no, I did not want to sell the clothes (by the way in the nicest possible way aka "I am so sorry for wasting your time, I completely apologize" etc etc), she went to her manager and, while still in earshot, went to a higher up and complained about how difficult I was being and that she shouldn't have to deal with this. Now I work in customer service, I understand everyone has their bad days, but normally when a customer apologizes to you it is not seen as a bad thing. I mean I could not have been nicer to this girl because, yes, I had wasted their time and I felt bad about it. She was incredibly snobby and personally I felt better donating the clothes to a local woman's shelter rather than sell them there. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! This is my first store review ever and I thought it was very important to share. First off, the staff are super stuck up, judgmental, snobby, very rude people. I recently sold my clothes and entering the store to sell, the girls working were SO RUDE!! I stood waiting for them to take my stuff but they looked at me and continued working. Finally after 5 min they took my stuff. I brought in super nice "worn once" clothes from places like Lilly Pulitzer, coach, old navy, gap, forever 21, etc. They took like nothing! The clothes were in style, they were in great condition. The staff is very unprofessional picking clothes. I sold a coach wallet that cost me $80 and they wanted to give me $4 for it. WHAT?!? I used the wallet once and was in mint condition. After selling I was really angry and later went back to see if my stuff was in store. I saw my one dress I sold for $3 and they were selling it in the store for $20!!! $17 profit! I should have gotten paid more! The stuff I sold was really nice and I look around the store and it is all really worn, ugly, dirty clothes. What the heck! One last complaint is that some of there stuff is over priced! Like the forever 21 clothes were priced like $1 less from what it would cost in the real store and I also saw an old navy shirt that had its original tag priced at $10 and Platos sold it for $15!?!
