So I took my daughter to do a little thrifting last week. She was looking for some jeans, and me? I was looking to pop some tags and find a come up. Yeah i know i say that a lot lately, but you can thank Macklemore for that. Anyway she found a sweater that she liked, but I was unable to find any treasures. My mistake was walking around for 20 minutes before i realized I had to turn the trades. My delay probably made the overall time 30-45 mins longer because it got busier while I was zoning out. When all was said and done went up to the counter for about $6 credit for the one item. Thing was, we had two pairs of jeans in the tote. When I mentioned this to the cashier she looked puzzled. She went back and realized that one pair didn't qualify for trade. It was kind of odd that they were seperated, but we got it back to go to Goodwill. Overall we got about 1/3 value of what they were gonna sell the jeans for so I guess that is good. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The customer service is extremely poor, most of the employees that I have come across are rude, apathetic, and condescending. I have tried to sell gently used, name brand clothes that are current with the trends and season 3 times now but they have never accepted anything I brought in. This most recent time will definitely be my last because they didn't even look through my bag and within 15 minutes I was called up to the counter and was told they wouldn't be taking anything. I looked around the store and saw plenty of items that were in much worse condition than the clothes I had brought in. Don't waste your time trying to sell your clothes here. read more

this selection is pretty decent at this Plato's closet location however one of the employees just is the most rude unprofessional dumbest girl I've ever met. I had four minutes before they had closed and I called the store when I was out in the parking lot to make sure it'd be OK if I came back in because I was $.29 cents short from purchasing a bag I wanted to purchase mind you guys I still had 4minutes before they closed. She told me no I was burnt so when I got off the phone with her when she said it rude as fuck. I told her she was a bitch. She hung up therefore I came back into the store two months later to purchase something and she told me I was now kicked out and trespassing because I told her she was a bitch on the phone that is ridiculous. Everyone is friendly and their customer service is amazing they don't make u feel like just a number or another person buying or selling something!! It's always one of the best parts of my day when I get to go in and chat and they listen to my crazy life stories and act interested even though I'm sure they don't care lol selection of shoes and clothes is awesome and I always get a good ROI when I sell my shoes or clothes if I had to pick any of the few cash for clothes type establishments 110% would always be Plato's over buffalo exchange and crossroads anytime or day No competition!!! I have always been shocked when I go in this store. 1- The customer service and employees that run this place are incredibly rude, dress very inappropriate 2- The quality of the items they sell vs what I bring in is unfortunate. I've brought in so many clothes time after time and they barely take anything. I'm not talking myself up here by any means, but I shop at good quality and brand stores but they never take my stuff. Yet what I see on the racks are Shein, forever 21 type stuff. Not to mention the clothes they are selling half the time are sl*tty. No wonder creeps hang out here and it's a sketchy parking lot full of heroine needles. 3- The wait time to sell clothing takes way too long, I will no longer be selling here. I wish there was other places that were more professional and actually took good quality things. To clarify, I brought in Steve Madden bags, Calvin Klein bags, Nike retro shoes, Sorel Boots, you name it type stuff. I actually laughed when I saw that they only took 3 items out of 4 bags I brought in. They took some cheap spandex and a down jacket that had a business logo on it for a sewage company. And the lady that I assume went through my items just stood in the back of the cashier and gave me the most nasty look. This place is gh*tto. read more

Very rude staff, had white skims pants covered in dirt on the hem and with stains on the knees and I asked if the price tag of $25 was correct since even for skims it seemed like a lot and the staff member said "oh that's just from being on the rack" which it clearly wasn't, when I pointed out the stains he said in a condescending tone "well they are very expensive so this is a great deal" implying I didn't know the brand and that I couldn't afford them regularly. I found the same pair of pants multiple times on Depop for the same price in new condition. Racks never have anything but shein for $10 which you can buy new for $3 and a lot of the time they have items under plastic wrap so that you can't buy it but you can see it so they say you have to come back in a week to buy. I loved coming here several years ago to sell and then spend all my money here cause the deals were so good. but now it's not even worth selling cause they have changed so much. Plato's Closet of Beaverton has been locally owned and operated since 2015. Today I visited this store for the first time. I was not greeted or acknowledged by any salesperson while I walked around the store. Plato's Closet is a second hand store that offers cash or store credit for gently used, trendy, name brand fashions and accessories. They pay 30%-40% of what they will sell the item for. The store sells clothing and accessories that will appeal to teens and twenty-somethings. I found it amusing that the brands they advertise to be interested in buying are the same brands that I have in my closet, even though I'm not one of their target customers by a long shot. They claim to be interested in brands such as Kate Spade, Coach, Adidas, Columbia, Lucky, Calvin Klein, Patagonia, Michael Kors etc. The store is fairly well organized and the racks were full of merchandise, although I didn't notice any of those targeted brand items. read more

I'm a repeating customer who always brings good clothes to sell but the last two times this girl with glasses has lied to me about checking my clothes and decides to not buy any of it. She said it would take like 45 min but then she sends me a text 5 min later saying it was done and my clothes hadn't even been touched or checked and she said my clothes were faded which is actually ridiculous cause I only bring brand new clothes like supreme Nike and adidas. And plus I also bring designer clothes so it was just frustrating. I probably wont come here again. She's done this the last 2 times I've been there. With COVID-19 this location has specific rules on selling and have an online store too, with going to the physical store location, mask is required. I brought items to sell and thought the process changed as I checked in and was going to wait but the employees just said I would get a text. As I left and on by way home I received a text saying that my items were sorted and everything was complete, for me to come back up to the registers when I'm done shopping (less than 30 min store closing). I was confused as it seemed like it was going to take a while and the previous time my items were looked at right away as I waited. I texted the number before they closed and asked if I was able to come back the following days, didn't hear anything until the store reopened the following day. Upon looking at Instagram stories a day later it was posted in the evening that due to being short staffed items will be sorted out the following day. It was inconvenient to come back again when it could of just been made in an Instagram post and their other social media page on Facebook instead of a story that disappears. Anyway, came back a day later and processed everything. Upon arrival, two registers seemed open but everyone in line was sent to the far end to the selling counter, it was a little confusing as the person before me was purchasing clothing. Customer service can be spotty at the store depending on employees (wasn't greeted upon arrival but helped as I left). On phone calls the employees are cheerful though. The text message script service isn't bad but doesn't seem to be the best method of a communication tool. The store itself seems full of items to sell and organized but depending on if you're buying or selling the experience seems to differ. Definitely a store that has a target demographic and specific style, maybe I have out grown them both but a great resource for those that are interested in a deal and into specific brands. read more

Stumbled on by whilst grocery shopping in the neighborhood. Hey, isn't that what strip malls are for, to stumble upon things? Anyway, Plato's Closet is a pretty good vintage (used, previously loved, etc.) store, with about 10-15% men's things. There's a good selection of items across all the usual categories, including running & training shoes, Aloha shirts, and tee-shirts. I can't comment competently on the ladies side of the aisle except to say there was a lot more stuff :-) Staff? Friendly. Prices? Good, although I feel for the owner, what with a Goodwill very nearby and others in seemly every direction. Still, they seem to make up in curation and selection... worth the visit. read more

I took in 2 big totes of clothing. We just moved and I needed to get rid of some things that I still liked but didn't fit. Many were brand name (free people, Alo, zella, anthropology etc. )and still had tags on them. I shopped while they went through my items. When they were through they said they only wanted 2 pair of my boots which was a surprise. So I took the cash and got my things and left. Several weeks later I went to Buffalo exchange w the totes that were still in my trunk - untouched since I'd been at Plato's closet. I was shocked at how many things were gone- I stood at the counter while they did the buying and I'm certain of 5 or 6 items that were missing. Moral of the story : stay at the counter while they go through your things. It's been weeks and I can't prove it, but it's clear someone just helped themselves to my things. They have mastered the ability to pick out the most snobby, ill-dressed, attitude riddled high schoolers. Have fun shopping here. I had prevously had the best experience of any Platos Closet at this location. That experience was largely impacted by a level of professionalism, from the then manager Levi, who left me feeling grateful that I had found this shop! A couple months have past, and I have now noticed that the buying practices have become a bit inconsistant. This was a bit frustrating as I am driving from Mcminnville to come deliver the goods that I specifically shop for the store for. I have just brought in about 60 pieces and was turned down on 57 of them. THEY TURNED DOWN 95% OF WHAT I BROUGHT IN! Granted some pieces were not the season they were purchasing, and totally respect that. How about the rest? Condition!? I scouted the shop for similar items that they HAD excepted prior. Of MINE mind you, and the new ones I brought in were in better shape than the ones on the floor! This new bad experience I had, turns out to be only after they let the manager go. I have never been more dissapointed in a shop that I had built trust with. It turns out the rest of the vintage community has also experienced this after they let Levi go. I went in at 11am with 6 jackets to attempt to sell. The woman said it would likely be a 30-45 min wait. After waiting for 2 hours, they finally looked at my 6 items and chose to buy one for $6. I know it's always a gamble here whether or not they will buy your stuff, but I think they need more people dedicated to viewing the items because waiting 2 hours just for them to look at 6 items is pretty ridiculous. The store wasn't even busy. There were two workers and it looked like they were mostly having to help customers in the store, so no one was able to keep the flow going for looking at items people are trying to sell. I love this place! I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews - every time I sell here I always get store credit/cash. The buyers are great at explaining why they don't take some of the items that I bring in. The prices are decent and keeps me coming back every other week. Wash your clothes before taking them in, and bring them in a clear plastic tub or a hamper, basically so everything is visible. Masks inside the store and hand sanitizer in multiple spots, so things seemed fairly good for taking safety precautions. They were Really fast at looking through and buying some of the clothes I brought in, and it was overall nice and successful! read more

I can't buy most things here, because the clothes are made for anorexics or girls with little boy bodies. Yeah, that's not me. But their sales are excellent, and I usually score some shoes and jewelry for cheap. They have awesome sales and when there's a red line through the price on the tags, jeans are $5 and shoes are $3! I don't typically review stores but my horrible experience at Plato's in Beaverton warranted this. I was selling clothes over the weekend and was treated horribly by their associate Neveah who was bitchy the second that I got there. It was my first time selling at this location and I wasn't sure which side to stand to pick up clothing that was done. I was explicitly voicing this to my boyfriend right in front of her. Neveah looked me straight in the eyes knowing that I was obviously confused when she was doing absolutely nothing and still did not help me. Then out of no where, her first words were "did you get a text" in the bitchiest tone. The entire encounter was her saying absolutely nothing to me as she gave me the cash for the clothing. Whenever she did say anything, she was being a bitch and gave off mean girl vibes to the point where my boyfriend even noticed. She desperately needs to get her attitude checked, thinking that she's working in some high-end boutique or something. I stop in here every so often to drop quite a bit of clothes off. I usually shop at stores such as Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Target, Pacsun, Aritzia, Urban Outfitters, Adidas, and Nike (just to give you an idea of what was in my entire clothes hamper full of items). I would say the wait time was fairly quick for it being "back-to-school" season. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. That being said, I'm surprised this place is still in business with the items they decide to buy and then put on sale. They decided to buy 3 items from me which consisted of ripped/destroyed denim jeans, shoes, and a small top, all in great condition still. I was offered $14 for the transaction which is fine. I am shocked however by some of the things they pass up on from certain sellers, while I'm walking around the store looking through VERY USED Nike, Abercrombie, H&M, and Hollister type merchandise. Not only does this make me never purchase anything while I'm there dropping off clothes, but it's gross to even look through. Shirts with stains or rips and then definitely washed and dried over and over should belong in the trash or at a donation center..not back on the rack for a few dollars cheaper than the original price would have been. Yes Plato's closet, that means just because something has a tag on it that says "Brandy Melville" and comes complete with armpit stains, twisting of the material, pilling of the fabric, and fading, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PUT IT BACK ON YOUR RACKS TO SELL. Point of the story, if you have brand new items that you would want to sell to them (tags and all from popular stores). The chances of them buying them are slim to none. If you have shoes that look like these Nike shoes posted, and shirts that have faded and lost color with heavy wearing..bring them on down to Plato's closet. I was surprised Bc of all the bad reviews/things I heard. She told me about 25 minutes since there was 1 person ahead of me. Less than 25 minutes I got the text. The guy at the front helped me check out. They ended up taking 13 items and payed me $46. Overall a quick and painless experience. I was going to donate the clothes anyway so I didn't expect to get much. Happy with the transaction and would definitely come back to clean out my closet again!! read more

I am obsessed with Brandy Melville so I had been searching for anything Brandy, but I had also seen one sweater in particular on their Insta that I really wanted to find, so my mom asked the two girls working there if they knew where it was. They were Athena Nguyen and Sadie Shaw and their customer service was unbelievable. Helpful, friendly, and they made us feel as though they weren't had all the time in the world for us. Although they couldn't find the sweater, they helped me sort through mounds of other Brandy stuff even five minutes before closing time, and were so friendly doing so. Went in with my mother to return some items. One of the items had it's original Target tag for $5, Plato's had priced it and sold it to my mom for $12. As questionable as that is, it wasn't a big deal since we were returning it anyways. My mom was trying to ask some rude cashier, named Levi, if she would get $12 back or $5 since the tags were confusing. Levi would NOT stop talking down to her and interrupting her to excuse the price difference instead of listening to her actual question. Even if they are your "favorite"....... I've never heard of Plato's Closet until I moved to Portland. The concept is similar to The Buffalo Exchange - where you can sell your clothes in return for cold hard cash or as credit if you'd like to purchase something in their store. Or you just wanna find something trendy and cheap, you can probably find the pre-owned clothing here. I never had older sisters, so I never had those "hand-me-downs" growing up. So part of me feels a bit "icky" if I were to try on a stranger's used clothing. You may consider me to be "sheltered" or "spoiled" but I feel its like using those bowling shoes at a bowling alley (even if they do sanitize them). I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Although I wouldn't use another person's article of clothing, I wouldn't mind selling some of my clothes. I was able to sell two summer dresses and walked out with $7. The rest of the articles were not in mind of something they can sell. I will donate them to Goodwill. Plato's looks for items that are "in-style" and are in "good condition" and something that will be sold. They have a buyer there that sorts through your garb and considers what's "IN" or "OUT". Most of the clothing here cater to teeny-bopper high school females. The employees were friendly and it was nice how they explained how things were run here. I'm a top 40 addict. Why is this relevant to Plato's Closet? Because while enjoy the latests club banger I'm often bombarded with adds for this place. To ready myself for an upcoming move I found to appropriate to purge my closet of clothes that are no longer pulling their weight. After trying my luck with both Buffalo Exchange and Red Light, I figured what the hell, let try to pawn the last of it off on Platos Closet. Immediately I was pleased with the organizations. At both my previous attempts to sell they shrugged me off and told me to come back...later. The buyer explained to me the process, assured me it would take a max of 20 mins and that she would write my name on the board when she was done. I was especially pleased that there was some way to tell when they were done. I didn't just have to lurk around like a creep. The whole transaction was pretty quick. I had just enough time to try on a dress before she was done. The lady working the dressing room was a doll. She remembered my name, offered to help me find things and even tried to send me into the dressing room with some items she though might look good on me. All this sounds a bit pushy but it was rather endearing. Really, the clothes selection isn't my cup of tea. It's ironic to say It's a little to young for me as I think of forever 21 more like a best friend then a store...but it was just a bit to Wet Seal if you know what I mean.
