Avoid this place at all costs! Especially if you're selling!
I brought in my car to sell at Platinum Ford. There was still a lienholder on my car, and luckily, the amount Platinum Ford offered me for my car was more than what I owed to my lender. Because of that, the process to complete the sale from there was that Platinum Ford would send the amount of what I owed to my lender to get the car title, and then once they received the title, they would send the $ difference straight to me.
On the day we closed the deal, Platinum Ford insisted that they would immediately overnight mail the check to my lienholder which turned out to be a lie. It took a whopping 15 days for my lienholder to finally get the money. During that lengthy wait, my automatic payment on my car had hit my bank account, so I was effectively paying for a car I technically didn't even own anymore. To make matters worse, 23 days have now passed, and I STILL haven't received the remaining money.
Besides my painful selling experience, while I was at the dealership selling my car, the Sales team asked if I was looking for a car -- to which I mentioned that I was looking for a minivan. At the time, Platinum Ford only had one minivan on the entire lot. I mentioned my price range, and they said that they thought they might have a good fit for me. They took me to a van with no price listed that looked entirely too new for it to be anywhere near my price range. I asked the price, and my salesperson Bobby dodged the question and pressured me into a test drive. Unfortunately, I couldn't leave because as this was going on, I was waiting for the final approval on my car sale.
After the test drive, Bobby sat me down at his desk and immediately started talking numbers with the van. It was quite astonishing how much of an effort he made to conceal the car's selling price as it must have been at least 45 minutes since I'd looked at the car, and he still hadn't told me the listing price. Instead, he brought out the square sheet asking what monthly payments I was targeting. It was then that I realized that the car he wanted to sell me was listed as twice as much as my price range! I said, "Absolutely no." Instead of letting it die, Bobby brought out Henrichs (sp?) the sales manager who made a superficial, horribly disingenuous attempt at empathy to manipulate me into paying for a van that cost twice as much as my price range. I was absolutely flabbergasted at the audacity because it's this very sales practice that puts people who don't have the financial means in horribly binding, exploitative financing agreements that ruin their lives.
I left Platinum Ford feeling very icky, and unfortunately, 23 days later, I don't even have a check to assuage that feeling. But hey -- they didn't hesitate to list my car up for sale! It was up almost immediately! read more
