I like that the name tells you exactly what it is, you pick a meat and they slap it over rice. It was as fast as fast food and a lot better.

For me, Lupo still ticks all the boxes. I love the lively atmosphere, the always changing menu, and…read morethe proper craft cocktails. I think they are doing something unique in Columbus and I am happy to see them as busy as ever. I will say, the menu is eclectic and some of the dishes are more successful than others. On a recent visit, we loved the bacon wrapped dates, the charred green beans, the croquettes, and mixed greens salad. The birria tacos were fine, but not amazing. There are some great birria tacos in this city and they did not compare. The spicy chocolate martini was a perfect finish to the meal. Very spicy, very chocolatey, and not overly sweet.

When the server--"Yana"--approached us, I grew less optimistic that all was well. I ordered a martini. When I asked if they have blue cheese olives, she told me "they cost extra." I thought she was joking, but she was not. (I learned when the bill came that my small martini cost 21 bucks. When I told the server at one point that I've never seen a martini in a cordial glass before, she informed me with some attitude, "It's still three ounces." I confirmed that I wasn't challenging her, but simply commenting on the non-traditional glass. Later, I ordered a diet coke. "We have Boylan's" she told me. "If it's a diet cola, that will be fine." When she brought it, she twisted the lid, poured most of the soda in my glass and took the bottle away with the remaining soda. I called her back after I'd taken a sip and said, "This tastes like rootbeer." Again with what seemed like attitude, she showed me the bottle and told me "it says diet cola." The server interrupted us at our table multiple times, reached over us to serve us, and took away plates we were still using. It felt less like fine dining "service" and more like what you would expect at a church dinner. The server was abrupt and seemed disinterested in trying curate a positive experience. The food, to be clear, was quite good, but that was the extent of the success for the evening. The menu prices would make sense if the service was above reproach, but it was NOT excellent service. Had the place been packed out, it might have made more sense that the service was compromised, but we actually commented on how light the attendance seemed to be for a Saturday evening. My hope is that the management might consider more staff training (or adjust their "fine dining" prices to match the service.)

There are meals that satisfy, and then there are meals that define an evening. My recent birthday…read moredinner at Sidebar Columbus fell squarely -- and triumphantly -- into the latter category. From the moment we arrived, the service set the tone for what would become an unforgettable dining experience. Our server, Lacey delivered hospitality with the kind of effortless grace that can't be taught. She anticipated needs before they were spoken, guided us through the menu with confidence, and maintained a warmth that made our table feel like the only one in the room. Wine & Cocktails: A Study in Balance and Craft The wine selection was superb -- thoughtfully curated, expressive, and perfectly paired with the richness of the evening's dishes. The cocktails were equally impressive, crafted with precision and a clear respect for balance. Each sip felt intentional, layered, and celebratory. The Paella: A Showstopper But the true star of the night was the paella -- a dish so masterfully executed it deserves its own ovation. The rice was tender yet structured, infused with deep saffron warmth and kissed with just enough socarrat to make any purist smile. The seafood was impeccably fresh, each component cooked to its ideal texture. It was the kind of paella that silences a table, not out of politeness, but out of reverence. When the chef personally came out to greet us, it only reinforced what the dish had already made clear: this is a kitchen led by someone who cooks with both technique and heart. A Birthday Elevated My husband orchestrated the evening beautifully, and Sidebar rose to meet the moment with finesse. Our guests were genuinely impressed -- not just by the food, but by the seamless choreography of service, ambiance, and attention to detail. It felt less like a dinner and more like a curated celebration Final Thoughts Sidebar Columbus delivers the rare combination of exceptional cuisine, polished service, and heartfelt hospitality. The paella alone is worth crossing the city for, but the entire experience -- from Laceys attentive care to the chef's personal touch -- transforms a simple night out into something memorable. For anyone seeking a dining experience that feels both elevated and warmly personal, Sidebar stands confidently at the top.

I haven't had Indonesian food since Taste of Bali went under (10 years ago? 15?) and was looking…read moreforward to trying one of Fukuryu's Bali Boxes. I was in the neighborhood today and decided to pick one up for late lunch/early dinner. Overall, it was okay. Expensive for the relatively small amount of food in my opinion, especially the beef rendang, but I realize beef is costly for restaurants lately. The rendang was tender, but not as flavorful as I was expecting (more salt might have helped). The coconut kale was a bit strange - I'm going to say that's mostly because I'm not a fan of kale, period. The vermicelli side was a nice addition, and the rice was great. I liked the mustofa potatoes, although they weren't "crispy" as described. The reheating instructions said to take out the little cup of potatoes first, but when cold they would have come out in a single clump, so I popped them in the microwave by themselves afterward for 15 seconds and that did the trick. Other issues: "consume by" date was yesterday. I don't worry too much about that kind of thing, but if you do, you might want to check your order before you leave the premises. Also, the container was too big to rotate in my small microwave. It worked out okay anyway. I tasted the sambal I got - nice heat, but again, not as much flavor as I was looking for. I'm sure I'll use it up elsewhere. Got a couple other things for lunch tomorrow, I'll update after I've tried them (pork bun, and cucumber salad). Bottom line: probably not your best choice for Indonesian food, if you're already familiar with it. Fortunately there's a place that's supposed to be opening later this year in Clintonville. Update: bumped up my rating based on the strength of the pork bun and cucumber salad. The bun: tender and fluffy like it was supposed to be. The filling - pork belly falling apart, perfect, cucumber on top, and a few shreds of pickled veg that I would have been happy to get a bit more of. Don't know what the condiment on the bun was, but all in all it was a very nice package for my lunch. The cucumber salad was delicious. Chili crisp made in house over chopped cucumber - lovely contrast. The chili crisp provides a nice little bite, not "hot" (YMMV, I like hot foods) but really tasty.

I ordered a crispy cucumber salad and not only was the cucumber not crispy, there was hardly anything in the container. The same was true of the ramen dish. For the money, this isn't a value. The noodles reminded me of grocery store ramen quality. The pork was cold. I didn't feel it was safe to eat. I'm not impressed. There are so many other great ramen places around Columbus. I felt ripped off. All of the reviews are from many, many months and years ago, so something must have changed.

The menu has something to offer for almost anyone: hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, soups, etc. I personally got the pork belly appetizer and the Capicola Ham & Swiss sandwich. The ingredients were really good. The ham sandwich blew my expectations out of the water. My ONLY suggestion right now is that I feel like there would be more value if the sandwiches and burgers were served with a side like chips, fruit, or fries instead of house pickles given the price point. They are planning to start doing brunch very soon on Saturdays and they have a full bar. Would highly recommend checking this place out!!! I'll update in a few months once they get more settled.

We ended up just snatching stuff from the next table when we couldn't get anyone's attention. The disappointing: the food wasn't exactly bad, but based on what we had, I wouldn't send someone here for the food. We had cold noodles (too much sauce), brussel sprouts (fine but not great), french onion fries (most interesting thing we ate), Mac and cheese (good. Not decadent but good). I'd come back to drink at the bar and down a bowl of that Mac and cheese, but I don't think I'd come back with a group looking to share apps at happy hour.

The restaurant is bright, colorful, and full of beautiful murals. It really gives off a modern Spanish restaurant vibe. For appetizers, we tried the mixed empanadas made with cornmeal--they came with cheese, spicy, or plain options and a side of cilantro sauce. Absolutely delicious. We also had the chimi flatbread, which was packed with flavor, and the steak was tender and yummy. For entrees, I went with the steak arepas and a side of tostones, while my father-in-law and husband shared the bandeja paisa. My arepa was fantastic--I finished the whole thing! The tostones were authentic, perfectly crispy, and we shared them. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. Even though the portions were generous, we ended up finishing everything. Bonus points for the jumbo margaritas--they were just as good as they sound. The staff was friendly, helpful, and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I requested to be seated in the middle section & was told the tables needed to be cleared off first. Took 10+ minutes and someone else got seated there before us. Anyways, Arnold Palmer was very bitter. Whatever you have in mind for deviled eggs is not what you will need tasting when you try these. It had an odd smell and tasted under seasoned. Would not order again. The wontons I give a 3/5. Not my favorite. The mushrooms weren't over powering but still interesting. This could have also used more seasoning. Outer layer was crispy. If you don't like sauces, ask for your sauce on the side because they pour it on your wontons for you. The empanadas seasoned well. Stuffed well too. Would order again. Then we ordered the flank steak medium. We received well done and it took more than 15+ minutes for the waitress to come to our table to check on us in order for us to send it back to get medium. Other than that, plantains were cooked well, the rice and beans were good. Presentation was beautiful. The restaurant was not busy at all. There were many empty tables and seats at the bar. Music isn't too loud to have conversations. Considering how much I spent on these meals and drinks, I would not return again.
