We chose to try Plate for an early Father's Day meal with our 19 month old daughter. We chose to sit on the patio which was lovely and had several well shaded tables. Our waiter was Greg and he was fabulous; so attentive, respectful and friendly. All the food we had was delicious. My wife and I tried Plate hoping to add another great restaurant to our list of places to celebrate special occasions. Tonight, we were celebrating Valentine's Day weekend. First the good. Great drinks, Caesar salad and risotto. Now the bad. I believe great customer service has died, even at high end restaurants, and the customer service at Plate only serves as further proof of my position. Our server was cold and insincere. She barely spoke and when she did never make eye contact and always seemed to be in a rush. We never got a welcome. At the mid-dinner point our drinks were empty including our waters and she was no where to be found. Not totally blaming her as there should have been support staff to step in and at least refill our water glasses. The broccolini as so over seasoned it caused me to choke. I found silver skin in the last corner of my $50 Fillet Mignon. This has never happened to me when I have ordered a Fillet Mignon anywhere else. Since silver skin is non-edible and always removed from the tenderloin this meant I could not eat the last three bites of my steak. Plate was a disappointment and not the special plate my wife and I will returning to for special occasions. There are better options in the Kansas City. I am posting this not to bash this local business but instead giving the feedback I would have given to the manager had he bothered to stop by our table to ask us about the dinner. read more

This was our first time at this location. It has the same vibe and flare of the MO location but I must say, the portions seemed to differ considerably compared to our previous experience. This is such a beautiful establishment that is so welcoming and comfortable. My martini was made very well and tasted great. My husband's steak and eggs was to his perfection, no complaints there at all. My chicken and risotto missed the mark a tad but was fresh...hot and pretty enjoyable nonetheless. The chicken was outwardly sweet with a maple glaze but lacked flavor throughout for me. The risotto was slightly undercooked and lacked the creamy texture and flavor that sets it apart from ordinary rice. I added salt and pepper to both but didn't want to over season so I opted to eat it as it was. The eggs were PERFECT!!!!!!!! Overall, our server made our experience top notch...She was full of smiles and was so prompt, efficient and kind that it made for the most enjoyable brunch in a while. Can't beat that! read more

Tried Plate for the first time as a takeout the staff was very friendly and helped me order the right things. The only concern I had was that the quality was too low. This would be a five star rating but the Leawood location is very noisy - difficult to talk to the person next to you. If some soft textures were added to the interior the noise would be muffled somewhat. We will try one of the other locations next time and hope that the others deal with the noise better. I have nothing bad to say about my visit to Plate. The service, drinks, and food was amazing. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical with the portion sizes from the pictures but as a big eater I got plenty of food between the bread and my meal. The pasta is nice and firm but not hard which is perfect for me. Every part of this meal was exceptional and I will happily be returning again in the future. The atmosphere is quiet, at Plate, allowing one to enjoy the conversation. We read positive remarks about the Brussels sprouts. Oh my goodness! Roasted, they are often just charred, tasting burnt. Not these! Perfectly browned, then fried and gently flavored (not overwhelmingly drowned) with balsamic. The potato gnocchi was like none other. Rather than rubbery balls of potato pasta, they were marble-sized, cooked to cheese consistency. Indeed, they turned out to be the perfect surprise addition to the Brussels sprouts! The rigatoni e gamberi was al dente, with nicely done chicken. If you have a tender palate, you may find it a bit peppery, although certainly not overwhelming. The filet mignon, done medium rare, was cooked to perfection, and could almost be cut with a butter knife. The flavorings were nicely understated. When asked what we thought about the meal, we mentioned the heat of the rigatoni. We we surprised, and a bit embarrassed when the Head Waiter came by and recommended the Lemon Ice Cream Sandwich - complimentary! This is NOT your basic ice cream sandwich! With a sprig of mint, drizzled with honey, the thin crusts were lemon macaroons, with frozen lemon custard. Um, fabulous! Juan W, our server, was knowledgeable and helpful, comfortably answering our questions. His descriptions of the food preparation piqued our appetite. Plate is a must! read more

Ambiance is ok..would be nice if they had candles on the table, decor was nice but needs something a little extra, flowers maybe would help a bit. Service was mostly good some of the staff had a fast food vibe, maybe due to inexperience. The entrees come with no sides whatsoever. The chicken was good but a little dry. My salmon was excellent! The gnocchi was undercooked, still mushy. Finally the stemware that was used was not appropriate to the type of wine. My desert was wonderful and our server did an excellent suggestion to go with the "port and torte". Just needs more fine tuning to make it a better experience. read more

Yum, yum, yum! Went for brunch on a Sunday and it didn't disappoint. It had something for everyone - regular breakfast type food, pasta, Italian type sandwiches and pizza. We started off with the garlic bread and and one of their specialty cocktails - I think it was the rose martini? Highly recommend both. I had the fried chicken breast with risotto and medium eggs- I wasn't too sure but the waiter, Gabriel, sold it and it didn't disappoint - delicious! My friend got the pappardelle pasta - and I definitely will get that next time - so so good. Her daughter got the biscuits and gravy - she said that the dish was comforting. I had a small taste of the gravy and I agree. Some of the best sausage gravy I've tasted. For my second drink the bartender created one for me after - I just told her vodka, not sweet and I like herbal notes. She hit it perfectly. I love it when a bartender can create cocktails on the spot that showcases their creativity. The restaurant is in the old California pizza kitchen spot. Recently visited Plate with a group of co-workers and had an excellent experience. We were able to utilize their private room, which actually was located in the middle of the restaurant and had glass walls to maintain privacy while not completely segregating you from the restaurant experience. Lots of great menu options, and sides large enough to share with several people. We ended up sharing several appetizers and sides to go with our steak and pasta entrees. The garlic bread was my favorite thing but the pappardelle was my favorite pasta! the gnocchi probably would have been the favorite but I wish it was served a bit hotter for my personal taste. First of all, the ambiance of Plate is exquisite. It's classy, but not over-the-top. Everyone on the staff was pleasant and accommodating. For starters, we ordered focaccia, ricotta bruschetta, and Brussels sprouts. All three were absolutely to die for. The focaccia was soft and savory, the ricotta bruschetta was fresh and creamy, and the Brussels sprouts were cooked to utter crispy perfection. For my main dish I ordered the ahi tuna, one of my favorite dishes. When it was brought out I noticed it looked more cooked than I'm used to (pictured). I tried it and it wasn't tender, so I sent it back and they brought me a new plate that was cooked perfectly. It was flavored so well and unbelievably tender. For dessert we ordered the bomboloni and a special of the night, which was a salted caramel custard. They were both delicious and gone within minutes. We tried both the chocolate martini and the espresso martini - both were quite possibly the best we've ever had. We will undoubtedly be back in the near future. read more

The bartender Cam was very friendly and recommended the perfect things for me which is also normally difficult since I am *picky*. Don't remember the drink but the breadsticks were great. My sister and I went to Plate for a Wednesday dinner and the place was pretty packed, so I'm glad we had a reservation! This was my second time going to Plate - I'd been about a year ago and the food was good but the service was very slow, so I thought it was worth a second chance. We settled on the pasta prix fixe so we could try a lot of different items. We started with the arancini which were so good. Arancini can be really bland in the wrong hands but this was full of flavor - the arancini themselves as well as the sauce and grated cheese they were served with. We both got the moderno salads which seemed really small - I wonder if they size them down for the prix fix? I'll be honest though, I was glad to save room for the rest of the meal! I really liked the cherries and bresaola in the salad, I just wish there'd been more than 2-3 pieces of each! I got the Rigatoni and subbed the shrimp for chicken, which was on the drier side. The vodka sauce had a bit of a kick to it. My sister got the bolognese and this was legit the star of the show - so good, so full of flavor and tender braised beef! The spices and herbs were excellently blended. They were out of the chocolate bombe for dessert so we chose the pistachio cake instead and it was pretty good! The downside to the meal was the slow service, so that hadn't improved since the last time I dined here. Our waiter seemed to be checking on a large party quite a lot and would often walk right by our table without stopping to check in. I think we waited a good 20 minutes after finishing our pasta, just waiting for the dessert menu. It was honestly frustrating. The other staff seemed pretty attentive - our used dishes were promptly picked up and the tables next to us had their waiters stopping by often. read more

My friend and I went there for Happy Hour yesterday for my birthday. The place is very well decorated and fits the atmosphere of Park Place. We ordered the burger, truffle fries and a margherita pizza. The burger was amazing; probably one of the best I've had in awhile! The fries and pizza were also very good. What a great date night at Plate. The restaurant has a sleek and modern design with fun lighting and an atmosphere that is perfect for an upscale happy hour. The menu has a collection of tasty dishes with everything from truffle bread , mushroom risotto, gnocchi, and bolognese. We enjoyed the pasta prix fix for two menu which included one antipasto, two salads, two pastas, and a dessert. We started out with the Arancini and it was delicious. They were fried perfectly, the rice inside was cooked well, and the peas were a nice homage to the traditional dish. The best part however was the basil pesto aioli that they sat on and the fresh sage on top. It was a knockout! I ate the pappardelle and it was light and inviting! Had another outstanding dinner at Plate. The Arancini were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Our server Juan was extremely helpful in choosing a wine. My first choice was a 2019 St. Supery Cabernet. Juan suggested, based on my palate, that I would enjoy the 2019 Justin Isosceles (which is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon) more. I've had the St. Supery before, but I enjoyed the Justin much more. Juan was spot on. The rigatoni and vodka sauce with shrimp was impeccable! May be my favorite dish. And dessert? The tiramisu was incredibly delicious. The consistency of the food and service is remarkable. read more

I've been here before and had a lovely experience however, we went there today for brunch and the experience was awful. We had a 10:30 reservation and the restaurant was basically empty, we ordered cocktails immediately and it took 27 minutes to get them. We then ordered an appetizer that several of us had before and was served cold, almost frozen in the middle. We politely sent it back and they remade it only for it to be cold again, The main courses were good but the service was painfully slow, and again, the restaurant was not busy at all so not sure what the deal was. The red headed bartender was super unfriendly at one point rolling her eyes at us because they had messed up and forgot to bring out our soup before the meal so when it arrived at the same time, I told them I no longer wanted it. I know it's tough to find help these days but this place will not survive if they can't get their service up to par. Super disappointed and won't be back. read more

Our server said we wouldn't be disappointed and we weren't. It was the best pasta I have ever eaten. The Italian old fashioned was prepared very well - although it was not served in a whiskey glass, which bothered me slightly.
