We dined at Acre last week, after a long absence. We had stayed away after a bad experience with…read morethe owner. I had brought a group of clients there and had a wonderful meal. Many ordered the skate with brown butter which was world class. After dinner, 1 client remained due to difficulty getting Uber. He ordered a drink and was told the register was closed. I quietly asked the owner if he could offer the drink on the house, and he declined. Had he been more accommodating, ACRE would have been at the top of the list for a substantial number of subsequent business dinners. My fiancé and I decided we would give Acre another try last week. We ordered the striped bass entree for $49. When the dish arrived there was what could only be described as two scraps of fish: One piece was less than a half inch thick and about 4 inches long, and after some searching, we found a second piece about half that size. I have never seen a striped bass small enough to yield a filet that thin. We asked the server to ask the kitchen if that was intentional or if there was a mistake. We were hopeful that a "do over" would result in the entrée described on the menu. Unfortunately, the server was clearly not in our court. Her attitude was passive /aggressive or at best indifferent. Despite specifically asking what the chef had to say, we received no visit or even feedback from the kitchen. What could have been handled with a laugh and a new or different entrée selection, quickly became uncomfortable. Hindsight is 20/20, but we should have considered our first bad experience a clear message that the culture at Acre is not a fit for us. We will not be back.

This is literally the best vegan spot in Memphis. I have invited lots of my family and friends, and…read morethey all have mentioned that they cannot tell that the food did not derive from an animal. I originally started my vegan journey in Atlanta. Moving back home, I didn't think that I would find any food that will be comparable to what I had. Well, I was wrong. Son of a vegan showed out in many ways! Customer: 20/10 Ayesha, the owner, has always been extremely nice. She's always taken the time to explain any item that I ask about. She speaks when we arrive and always makes sure to ask about our experience. You can tell that this is more than just a business to her. It is a passion. Taste: 20/10 As I mentioned before, this place is second to none. Everything that I have tried has been great: the barbecue nachos, barbecue vicken, bacon, quesadilla, patty melt, chopped cheese, Philly, seasoned fries, desserts, and everything in between. The most loved item is the lasagna!!! It is so good that you will feel as if you're in an Italian restaurant while eating it. Cost: 10/10 The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are great also. Parking: 10/10 It is located inside of the mall. So, there's lots of parking. Creativity: 10/10 At one point, the owner offered a cooking class. My family, friends, and I attended. We loved it one of the takeaways that we still use today is being intentional with visiting our local farmer's market. That is something that I had never done until that point. She also challenged us to stop hoarding food by cleaning out our cabinets. Let's just say there were cans that were extremely dated in the pantry. I have no clue why I was keeping cans that long, but I did. Some of them were old enough to be in preschool lol. Anywho, I'm grateful for her suggestion! They also have games that you could play while waiting for your food. My cousin and I love the game Trouble. So we would often play a round or two before eating on your "Cousin Dates". Being that I'm an extreme yelper, I cannot believe that I have not reviewed this amazing business until now. Honestly, it deserved a five star or HIGHER every time I've visited over the past two years. SOV has even encouraged some of my family members to try a vegan lifestyle. Though I am not vegan any longer, I still made an effort to visit this location because it's just that good. It's sad to hear that they are closing because it is a staple in the Memphis community. Its imprint will remain permanent within our culture and our hearts. Cue Boyz II Men "ALTHOUGH WE'VE COME TO THE END OF THE ROAD......"

The food and coffee was so delicious. I wouldn't say I'm a food snob, but I'm particular about breakfast foods, and this made me very happy. We each ordered a coffee and the bacon potatoes to share. I ordered the Juniper Benedict and my friend ordered the loaded biscuits and gravy. The bacon potatoes were cooked perfectly, soft and slightly crunchy with plenty of cheese and bacon. The eggs in my eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and they used a regular house-made biscuit that soaked up the egg yolks perfectly. The restaurant was pretty big, but the ambiance felt like a small-town diner. The staff was super kind and attentive, too. The cost is par for the course for a nice diner in a big city.
