We tried Planet Thai today for dinner - we went in and ordered carry out so we could be lazy and eat at home in our pjs. I was a little disappointed they didn't have the Thai vermicelli noodle salad, but I have a hard time finding that in Kentucky. We ordered the egg rolls, chicken satay, and pad Thai. The egg rolls were super crispy and I loved their plum sauce - but the filling could be a little more flavorful. The chicken satay was amazing - so flavorful! The peanut sauce was so good too. The pad thai was really good - we ordered 4/5 spicy and should have ordered the 5/5. It wasn't very spicy, but the chicken was delicious and the peanut topping was unique. With a craving for Thai food & looking for a place for dinner for 4 last weekend, my sister and I remembered Planet Thai from growing up in Lexington and loving it. Though we hadn't been in a couple (or 15) years, we decided to give it a try! We got there on a Saturday night around 6:30, and there were definitely tables available...but it was quite a wait to be greeted and seated by the host. Once we were seated however, our waitress was very attentive and quick with taking our drink and food orders and checking in on us throughout the meal. We started out with the appetizer sampler which had a good variety of things to try! My favorite was the veggie spring rolls. My sister and our husbands all ordered the Pad Thai at varying levels of spice. I went with the spicy eggplant dish that had red curry paste, eggplant, bell peppers, onions, and basil leaves with tofu on a level 4 spice. It was good, but a little greasy. The portions are large and would be easily split for 2 people or good for taking home leftovers. I noticed lots of people stopping in to pick up carry out orders. One thing I would note is that Planet Thai is in need of some decor updating. Its not a fancy place, but some new carpeting, a fresh coat of paint, and new seating would go a long way in freshening up the interior. read more

I ordered over the phone for take out. The ordering procedure was a little difficult. I believe the lady taking my order was training. She didn't seem to be familiar with the menu. But still was very nice. She never said her name. I ordered all vegetarian food. The vegetarian pot stickers were crunch and came with some sweet sauce. I also got Tom yum soup, definitely something I will get next time I'm sick!! Then as the main meal I got green curry noddles. That was my favorite out of everything. I moved away a decade ago. Back in the days (lol), Planet Thai was a staple for me. I absolutely loved it!! I made a trip to Lexington this week and figured why not try Planet Thai while I'm in town. This place has really gone downhill. The pad see ew was dry and almost tasteless with a smidge of bitter aftertaste. The nam yur was sweet? It's supposed to be a spicy salad. The tom yum soup was as delicious and decently spiced as ever--I'm so glad! Will probably only get the tom yum soup here going forward. Let me tell you about Planet Thai. My roommate and I religiously order from here once a week (once 3 times). I order the Pad Se Ew with chicken every time. It's my go to, and it's always consistently good. Not only is it good, but the portions are HUGE. I can sometimes eat this for 3 whole meals. There's always a lot of chicken (could sometimes use a few more veggies), but the sauce is good, and the spice is as well (ranked 0-5). It's ready quick and I've never had a bad experience. I love this place and am so happy they're staying busy during these challenging times!! Their staff is always friendly and accommodating, and after trying many Thai places around town I always find myself back here. I wouldn't call it your true to the bone "authentic Thai". The food here is so good! I get the lunch special to save money, but the portions are still huge! They offer me enough to eat in the moment and for another meal too. Everything I've tried so far has been delicious. I just call ahead and it's always ready when I come to pick it up. I've tried the Thai chicken fried rice, spring rolls, chicken pad thai and wonton soup. All are great. I think my favorite so far was the Thai fried rice. You can get it as spicy as you want, they ask you do you want 1-5 spiciness. So far I've only tried up to 2 and I could go spicier next time! I plan to try more on the menu. They also are a little lacking in garnishments such as fresh herbs, crushed peanuts, chopped green onions and no fresh Thai peppers to spice up the food which is not an issue for most with the portion sizes being what they are. I had a great lunch with a friend at Planet Thai. The portion sizes are absolutely huge...I ate on my lunch for the entire time I was there and when we were done, my friend commented that it looked like I hadn't touched my food. The food is really good, too. They make everything on a spice scale of 1-5. I was scared to go too high, so I got a 2, which was perfect for me. I got the pad thai without meat (though if you want meat, it is available). The meal truly was delicious. The atmosphere is not overly fancy, but still comfortable. We dined in this evening and one of out entrées in particular was incredibly spicy, inedible, they are NOT consistent with their levels of spicy (0-5). The (2) appetizers were good and other (2) entrées were mediocre. The abundance of your meal is noodles, lots and lots of noodles and little chicken and shrimp. I met up with a former coworker and friend from Keeneland for a catch up. There is front parking and a parking lot on the side. Upon entering it looks a little run down and there are 2 sides for dining with a fish tank in both sides! We were sat in a, requested, booth and our beverage order was taken but be aware they don't have lemons for your water but limes. We decided on the potstickers as our appetizer we each chose a different curry. I went with the red spicy veggie and she did the pineapple. The potstickers came with this AMAZING plum sauce that was the consistency of honey and tasted like heaven! Our curry came out very soon after. They both were soo good! Large portions so we were both able to take some home for later. We hung out and played with the fish in their tanks and talked a little bit longer because we weren't sure if she came back to close our bills or if we had to bring them up to the counter. The Tom yum was the most disappointing thai soup I've ever had in my life. I love spicy authentic thai and this is far from it. The soup was too sweet and had no lemongrass or lime flavor. It contained only chicken, onions, frozen carrots, and canned mushrooms. That is not Tom yum soup to me. The green curry also contained obviously frozen vegetables. The same crinkle-cut carrots, green beans, mushrooms etc. The sauce was tasty but the rest of it was very very average. Planet Thai is a good place to satisfy your Thai food cravings! I think this place is better than some of the other Thai restaurants in the Lexington area. I'm a huge fan of Thai food so I have pretty high expectations whenever I go to a new Thai restaurant... I've had their Chicken Pad Thai and it was decent! Pretty flavorful and HUGE portion sizes (enough for 2 meals). Their spice levels are a little weak so if you love spicy, I would get 4-5 and then add more chili flakes if you need!
