We recently moved from Chicago to Boston and Planes was the company given for my work relocation. I have never had such a horrible experience! They came to pack up my 1 bedroom apartment in Chicago and all the movers were fairly pleasant. However, the driver was SO RUDE. He kept complaining that there was no where to park (mind you it's a city) and my relocation specialist was supposed to get a parking permit. He blamed myself and my boyfriend for not getting this although we were assured it was taken care of. At the end after 8 hours of packing, he told my boyfriend that it was a disgrace that we were so cheap and sad that we couldn't afford a parking permit. We ended up giving them all a tip, including the driver and he just scoffed at us and said this changes nothing. Additionally, nothing was wrapped in blankets in terms of the furniture which all has scratches and marks over everything. I opened most boxes almost in tears of how poorly the materials were packed and all the damages. After 8 hours, would have thought everything would be packed correctly. They also didn't label half the boxes for mark off and the moving company who unpacked me (different) even said they thought Planes did a horrible job and I should request money back due to how bad it was. This was supposed to be a stressless move due to having relocation services but was one of the most stressful times of my life due to Planes. read more

I am so glad I chose Planes Moving and storage for my move. Brian was a great salesperson and represents the company well. When the movers arrived they were extremely professional and friendly, they knew their job and did it well. Not only did they empty my house but also the contents of my storage units which lasted until after 8:00PM. I could not have been happier with any crew. Days later I found items that I did not have ready for moving and without issue they were taken to the warehouse in Aurora and added to all my other items in storage. The staff at the warehouse was extremely courteous and easy to work with. I am confident that when my house is ready in AZ that the Planes staff will complete the job without issue. read more

Watch out for this company! They quote low and then hit you with a much higher price. We were quoted about $5k for our move and since it was local, the quote was not binding. I expressed my concerns about the actual being much higher than the quote, and Brian Wiener told me that wouldn't happen. Just to make sure we moved over 30 boxes ourselves from our garage and about 30 tubs in the house. I was thinking that when I received the final invoice it would be $1k less than the quote, I was way wrong! It was $1k more than the quote. Nick Meyer (sp?) at the corporate office wasn't that much help, he did find out that they charged me more for labor that was quoted so I received a small credit. He also gave me a $100 credit. This was definitely not enough. After thinking back on the whole move, I figured out their scam. The coordinator (Canon P.) calls you and tells you not worry about unloading dressers, small drawers and night stands as they will just move those items with the belongings inside. The movers then come and put all those items in boxes (which is how you get charged, by the box) which increases the box count significantly. If I wasn't told to keep my belongings in the dressers, I would have packed up all the clothes in suitcases and moved them myself. Nick told me that they did this for the safety of my belongings, which is comical since the majority of the items were clothes. The team that actually did the moving were fantastic and I took care of them on the day of the move. read more

This company is HORRIBLE! They moved us from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale and it was the worst experience ever. They took apart all of our furniture (including LAMPS) and since we were moving our stuff temporarily into storage, they did not reassemble our stuff for us. When we moved our stuff into our house from the storage, we found that half of our furniture was messed up when it was reassembled. 3 of our lamps were flat out broken and they lost vital pieces to our $800 bed that is now completely ruined. When I filed a claim they refused to pay it because we moved into storage before moving into our house...this is the way they operate: they know that because you are moving into storage, they don't have to take care of your things, your furniture gets ruined and guess what? they don't need to even consider paying a claim (even though we had $75,000 worth of insurance) simply because you moved into a storage unit. What person is going to be able to inspect their things before they are reassembled and moved into their final destination? They know this and operate carelessly because they can. This was a difficult move from a four bedroom house to a townhouse. I had many variables working against me including the Townhouse clear to close date. I anticipated possibly having to hold my furniture overnight or work for a few days in storage. I chose this company for their flexibility. The guys were timely and polite. We had little if any damage. One dresser got a dent on the bottom, but I understand how difficult a move like this is. I did ask for them to be careful with one piece of furniture and they were. They did take a longer lunch than deducted which is the only reason they did not get the full 5 stars. read more

We've moved six times prior to this, and the service we got from Planes was far and away the best. Very little loss/damage, and prompt follow up on the issues we did have. Highly recommend, and plan to use again if/when we move in the future. read more

Great experience with this company, driver and the movers except for one thing..they overestimated the weight of our move by 23%!! That's a huge amount and cost us to overpay a large sum of money! For that reason alone I could never recommend this company to anyone and I feel the need to warn future customers that they too might be overcharged. read more

I was told all my furniture would fit in 4 containers. I had him out twice to assure me all would fit. He lied just to get a sale. A third of my stuff would not fit and is still left behind in Chicago. This company is run by idiots! I was told my items would be left in the containers upon delivery to my home.They were moved from the containers to a truck then to my home! Major damage occurred to 5 pieces! I am so angry! Horrible Company. They were hired to move our personal property from Chicago to Mission Viejo California. We have a contract that specifies over $76,000.00 in insurance coverage. Brian Gilcrest promised us our stuff would be delivered unharmed. What they don't tell you is that they send all your stuff to some warehouse in Aurora Illinois. Then they split it up and ship "parts " of your stuff in different trucks. They do not keep you informed along the way. We had to wait over a week for our second shipment and only found out when it was arriving. Y calling the parent company United Van Lines. The first driver literally assaulted me when I showed him the three damaged Chippendale table legs that they had broken off my 200 year old desk and then put three legs together in the same blanket so the finish is all gouged up and ruined. The second shipment we discovered that my $2,000.00 Klein bike with Ultegra components was missing. We filed a claim with their claims department and also filed a police report at their request. Then the claims adjuster Natalie Grieszmer sent us an email and letter stating their company is not going to pay on any claim because we filed a police report. So we filed a Federal Trade Commission Complaint against the Company and are disputing the amount of the missing bike through our credit card company. Do not hire this company or the parent company United Van Lines unless you want your belongings ruined and stolen. Their fancy brochures are 100% BS. And the company could care less. Whatever you do never pay with a cashier's check as they request or you will have no recourse when they automatically deny all claims for missing or damaged items. They put inventory stickers on all boxes and half of them fall off in transit. Then other boxes they put three or four inventory stickers on them and label all items in the inventory simply as "box" so unless you keep your own list which we did you will have no way to know what's missing when they show up. Then they claim "Oh, the rest of your stuff must be on another truck" but they don't tell you that the other truck does not have all of your stuff. You are better off renting a truck and moving yourself because it's the only way to know your possessions won't be damaged, stolen or both. They also don't tell you that unless you pay them $35 per box to pack your boxes, they have no liability for anything you pack yourself. So you might as well also move it yourself. read more

Planes was efficient with my move across the country. The estimate was $1,000 less than the other I got and was set in stone, unless I requested they weigh the truck. Communication with the contractor in my new location was excellent. They had scouted the location of my apt and were prepared to get things there efficiently. Everything arrived two days earlier than I anticipated and it was all in good shape. All movers were professional, helpful and showed care in moving my stuff. As for the sales rep, it sounds like I had the same guy (20 yrs experience). He was quick and thorough with the estimate and got back to me with some requested revisions within a day or two. They are very busy, and maybe they need more people out giving estimates, so I didn't expect to hear from him immediately after I send an email. He doesn't handle the move, however, he only provides the estimate. I do recommend this company. read more

Our experience with Planes was outstanding, not only did they come in under their estimated cost for our long distance move, but they handled everything with great care and efficiency. Everyone from the estimator to the packers, movers, drivers and move coordinator were stellar in their concerns for us, our belongings, and the houses were leaving and moving into. We had a very challenging and short-notice move involving a disabled relative, and Planes made a difficult situation so much easier. The move ended up being a much larger undertaking than anticipated, and the movers were nonetheless kind, respectful, and patient, and sensitive to the stress that our relative was experiencing. They went above and beyond, even assisting him in ways that he never thought to ask. Considering the size of the project, we feel that their pricing was entirely fair, as well. We've moved cross-country a number of times, so we have experience with moving companies. None have been perfect, but most have been OK. But not Planes -- they win the title of "worst". They packed our stuff in Chicago for our move to Atlanta. We couldn't be there on move-out day, so we didn't get to supervise -- not that it would have done any good. These guys apparently just tossed things into boxes. The couldn't be bothered to plastic-wrap things like the leather couch. When we unpacked on the other end, nearly every box was crushed. I paid 30% more to use Planes moving because i was told that they have full time employees to do the move. They are professional movers (mine were contractors). They take extra care with my stuff and will get it there safely. I had three items that were broken. A $2500 4k 65 inch tv that was dropped on a corner. It was supposed to be packed and unpacked by Planes. I had to force the worker to unpack it because he obviously knew that he broke it. Then they acted surprised when the TV was cracked. Also had a 2200 Marble table that was chipped and a outdoor Large umbrella stand that was also cracked. These guys are not what they say. You are better off paying less using a local mover. Not only are they not worth the money i paid, they are not worth hiring at all. Very disappointed. Oh yes, forgot, the Sales person who sold me this quit. Perfect! read more

Do NOT use this mover! They refused to cover damage they did on our hardwood floors. They left wheel indentations from dollies on our floors. Because the damage was not noticed and reported with 24 hours they refused to cover the damage. They also lied about our shipment being on one truck. Planes said our shipment was large enough to have our own truck. After running out of room for our shipment, they had to come back for everything else. I read the bad reviews before and this is NOT one of those. Mine was a long distance move from the Chicago area to Nashville. Dennis the estimator gave me a good price and also some money-saving tips. The packing and loading crew were supposed to be there between 8am and 9...and actually came EARLY. I had packed some boxes but they packed the rest and loaded everything within an amazing 3 hours. Efficient, professional and plain nice. Today, the final stage moving my things from the Planes warehouse to a storage unit here. Again, the truck came on time! The driver Tim was super good at organizing everything to fit in the unit. Another nice guy. Coordinator for the move was Robyn and she was so prompt in emailing me updates. I even had a call during the unloading to make sure all was going well. And everything arrived in excellent shape. Moving is not fun but I have to say that it couldn't have been a better experience using United. A previous move with another company was nothing but problems. Planes is a dream if you have to move. Highly recommended. read more
