Dr. Blaso and his team have been nothing but wonderful to our pack. Last year, one of our Danes was diagnosed with a life threatening fungal disease (Blasto), so we "lived" at Plainfield Veterinary Clinic and have had A LOT of appointment experiences and interaction with the staff. Also, another one of our Danes (who has special needs) recently had surgery to remove a lump and Dr. Blaso made sure to order a special medication for him to make surgery safer. Once he was out of surgery, they called us and let us bring in his Bailey Chair to get him upright as soon as possible, to reduce his risk for regurgitation/aspiration. Now let's talk Emily... Emily always goes above and beyond in taking such great care of our boys when they come in for an appointment or surgery. My stress/worry is greatly reduced when I know she's there taking care of them. She's truly THE best and all 3 of our dogs love seeing her even though the vet is a stressful place for them to visit. This place is way overpriced. I would not recommend taking any animal here as it will cost about 5X what it should at a normal vet. They constantly want you to do repeat services that are not necessary. The staff at the front desk is rude and condescending. This rating is for the costs that the clinic charges. The first time I took my dog to them it cost me 700.00. I just went in to get some antibiotics and for 56 capsules they charged me 102.00 and when I questioned them they said all meds went up. When I got home , I checked the price for the quantity and dosage and the highest price at Walgreens was 20.24. That is an astronomical markup. I love the vet and he loves the animals . It is a shame their costs are so ridiculous. read more

You will pay TOP dollar! $24 to cut my cats nails. They charge you upfront, $69 for regular visits, and $89 if there is an issue. My cat was vomiting for 24 hours. Took her in when the clinic opened at 7am. Extra fee for urgent care, $1300, and no diagnosis.. Sent me home with anti nausea medicine. The cost was twice what I expected. I typically don't leave reviews; but I have been here three times. The first time, I took my miniature dachshund puppy who was only eight weeks old and this vet was already pushing for neuter. I was told not to neuter until the puppy is at least six months old. They told me that was false info. Also, I've had dachshunds my whole life. Anyways, the second time I went there, they called and said that my puppy had worms. They made me take all my dogs in just to prescribe them the worm medication and charged visit fees for each one of my dogs. Today, unfortunately, I went there for the third time. My dog must have split his nail and was bleeding. I have styptic powder at home and it wasn't helping. I was told upon arrival that the veterinarian was on vacation, I asked them if they could cauterize his nail because the styptic powder did not work. I even bandaged his paw with medical tape, and checked it after about an hour. It had not stopped bleeding. At this point, cauterizing the nail was necessary. The vet tech that came out to speak to me said that they could take a look at the nail and put more styptic powder on the wound. I said that it wouldn't do anything. At the end of the day, I just feel like this vet center only cares about dollar signs. They made me wait in the parking lot for about 20 minutes while my dog was still actively bleeding, Knowing that they couldn't help him. I am a firm believer in second chances, in this case third chances, but never again! This vet is not worth your $$. To throw fuel to the fire, they told me to go to a different Emergency vet clinic, when I got there, it was closed. As in, the business no longer existed. Dr. Blaso is a true animal lover and it shows in the way he cared for our cat, Muffin in a recent home visit. Another doctor was unable to make it to a previously scheduled home visit, and Dr. Blaso went out of his way to come to us at around 7pm to make up for it- not something I could have gotten any other doctor that I know of to do. Not to mention Plainfield is about 30-40 minutes away from us! Muffin is a bit if a wiggle worm, which can be frustrating to most vets and techs, but Dr Blaso and his wonderful tech (I'm kicking myself for forgetting her name, but she was awesome!) showed no frustration or annoyance whatsoever. They were super patient and loving and the exam went as well as I could ever expect from my little cuddle bug and a vet team. I was also impressed by Dr. Blaso's skills and knowledge, as he was able to take blood very easily (from a squirmy cat, no less), and never had to restick. Muffin didn't even cry when stuck, which was a surprise. He also knew more about cat nutrition than any other vet I have spoken with- most vets we've met have just recommend kibble throughout the cat's life, but Dr. Blaso recommended switching to wet food around age 8, something research shows is extremely important for cats' kidneys. He also didn't shame us for feeding our dogs (balanced, commercial) raw food, as we have also heard in the past. Even though Plainfield is a bit of a drive for us, we fully intend on taking all of our pets back to Dr. Blaso. It isn't every day that you find a vet that cares so deeply about animals and has the competency to match that compassion. If I could change one thing, it would be the availability of a prevention care package (with monthly payments, etc), but Dr. Blaso let me know that he is thinking about how to implement one in the near future. The worst experience ever with a veterinarian and grooming service. All they want is money from you they don't care about your pet,first time there tried to get my 14 year old dog groomed had to spend $168.00 for extra shots before I could even get my dog groomed, they couldn't groom because they said he tried to bite them, gave us some pills and said bring him back tomorrow the pills will make him relaxed. Took him back the next day they tried again and same thing happened and they couldn't groom him 3 people couldn't put a muzzle on a 18 pound dog. Now they say have to sedate him but have to give him blood tests before they sedate him, which means more $$$$. Never had this problem before with last groomer, but she stopped grooming, had to find someone different not the place to go. If I could it would be -5 stars read more

A WARNING TO ALL PET OWNERS DO NOT USE PLAINFIELD VETERINARY CLINIC! On Tuesday, September 24th my rescue cat was spayed by Dr Blaso at Plainfield Veterinary Clinic. The spay was covered by the rescue, but other services were not. After speaking to the staff about my options, I elected for her to have an IV catheter and fluids during her procedure for $79. They informed me that, along with many other benefits, by doing this I was greatly increasing her chance of survival if (God forbid) something happened during the surgery. I felt secure and confident in my decision knowing I was doing what was best for my cat. I received a call around 1pm to let me know everything went fine and that my cat was in recovery. I went to the clinic at 5pm to pick her up, paid the $79 for the catheter, and left. I was surprised and disappointed to know that they don't believe in prescribing any post surgical pain meds for cats. After I got her home I noticed that there was no evidence of an IV catheter. When questioned about it, the tech stated that she was told not to place one because the cat was fractious. The next day I called first thing to ask for my refund on the IV catheter that wasn't even attempted. I was told that I would receive a call back ASAP. At 5:30pm, I had to call again. I was given the run around and told that it may be as late as MONDAY until I heard back. UNACCEPTABLE! It's been over a week now and I still haven't received my refund, or even a simple phone call with an apology/explanation. I feel that, not only did the steal from me by charging me for a service they knowingly did not even attempt, they put my beloved cat at risk during her procedure. I am so disappointed and bewildered by Dr. Blaso's lack of patient care and customer service! This is just plain BAD BUSINESS AND BAD MEDICINE! read more

From the day I rescued him to the day I had to say goodbye to my best friend, everyone at Plainfield Vet clinic have provided the highest level of service, accommodation, and care. I have always taken my dogs here, for their health visits and grooming. Dr. Paul Blaso is absolutely the best. My dogs have anxiety, and really don't like to go to the vet. Because of this, I always ask for a soft mussel and a sedative if necessary to protect the staff and ensure they are able to perform their work in a safe manner. A huge shout out to Andrea, the groomer. My dogs go in twice a year for a very short shave/cut and she does an exceptional job. This is the ONLY place I would ever entrust my dogs care to, above and beyond any veterinary clinic I have ever been too ! read more

I did some shadowing here in the Spring and saw how wonderful the animals are treated here. Dr. Blaso and Dr. Swanson will take excellent care of your animal friend all the way through his or her life to the very end. My family and I had to make an extremely hard decision to put our beloved cat Jaz to sleep and not only were Dr. Blaso and his technicians supportive of our decision no matter what we chose but also cognizant of the emotions my mother and I felt. Jaz was made comfortable and was put to sleep peacefully and my mother and I were given ample time to say goodbye to her. I went to another vet hospital in Plainfield for many years and every time I went in there I just felt like another number to them. A friend told me about Dr. Blasso and he is WONDERFUL! He really cares about the animals. He walks in and sits right on the floor with them so everyone can get use to each other. Not very happy with the services of this vet. My mom had them come out for our dog 2 times for an infected toe and the option they took was medicine and flushing it out with water which in turn, made the infection worse and after getting no good answers from the vet, we sought out a second opinion and our dog had to go in for surgery the very next day because the infection got so much worse. They left us hanging, never called to check up on our dog, and unprofessional when going into office to get a new cone/meds/etc. not pleased at all and will never go back. read more

Very money hungry. The owner is not doing this for the love of it. Had to pay $300 upfront to START the surgery which is understandable but would not lower the price. If we didn't pay then and there, our puppy would've had to come home in the horrible condition we brought her in and they would've gave us cream to ease the pain. My wife and I brought our puppy Kona here for a spay in October 2014. She caught MRSA and we've been trying to clear this infection over 5 months and over $2k in medical bills later. When bringing my dogs to get groomed and to get their shots we were quoted a price and then when I came back to get my dogs somehow the price I was originally given went up $300! When I questioned why the price went up A woman who I will not name that works there came from the back started screaming at us claiming that she had told us different information. Then she started insulting my sister. The staff was so compassionate and respectful giving us all the time we needed. They treated our dog with the sweetness and respect she deserved in her last moments. They will let your dog walk out if it has a life threatening condition and you dont pay the estimated cost in full up front. Will not under ANY circumstances accept a payment plan. I walked out in tears. Thank god my dog lived. I was a customer there for 19 years they would not treat my dog with a serious bowel obstruction because I wanted to spread the payment of the estimated $1000 over time. I will NEVER go there again. We went to Plainfield Veterinary Clinic on a referral. We were referred to Dr. Blasso but he wasn't available so we saw the other woman vet Dr. Erin Walsh and she was very nice, personable and answered any questions or concerns. We are very overprotective about our dog and have had bad experiences with other Vet's in the past but my husband and I both felt she was very good. And most importantly Charlie seemed to like her and she was very gentle with him and he responds well to that. He doesn't like if a Vet or Groomer is rough or may do something that hurts him. Charlie is a Senior Dog and he is doing very well on the Holistic approach to wellness we believe in and they also seem to respect that at this clinic. Which is very important to us keeping Charlie healthy in his senior years. read more

I had been bringing my dog to Dr. Blaso since I adopted him in 2008. Ever since then, Dr. Blaso has been nothing short of a wonderful vet. He always gets down to my dog's level when he interacts with my dog and treats him as if he were his own dog. Besides the high quality veterinary care, the grooming there is phenomenal as well. I used to take my dog to Petsmart grooming until one of the grooming staff yelled at me in front of other clients that they should have charged me extra for my dog's groom. Since then, I have taken my dog here to get groomed. Not only are the staff super friendly, but they are also much quicker (2-3 hours quicker) than the Petsmart groomers. My dog always looks clean, fluffy, and smells nice after his groom over here. Not to mention, they give him a cute bandana every time. But I think one of the best things for any pet parent would be knowing that all dogs that come to the facility (besides getting vaccines) are required to be vaccinated against rabies, distemper, bordetella, and both canine influenzas. With all these vaccinations, I rarely worry that my dog will pick up any pathogens from a visit from the Plainfield Veterinary Clinic. I highly recommend this place to any pet parent that wants the best for their pets! read more
