I've been coming to Ness Exotics for over a decade as they've always been the most experienced and reliable exotic vet in the Chicagoland area near the western suburbs (and I've tried them all!). My rabbit became very sick over the past few months and needed emergency care multiple times. Dr Ness was able to squeeze him in and went above and beyond to treat him. The vet support staff are wonderful and everyone provided him with such love and care (despite his ornery personality!). He unfortunately did not make it and Dr Ness and the staff provided such reverence for us during that process and allowed us to say goodbye to him. We are so appreciative of the efforts made to save his life and will always be grateful for the transparency of his condition and ability to sit with him in his final moments.

Our parakeet

On Saturday, July 10th our 10 year old parakeet woke up breathing rapidly and was very puffed up. My wife called and asked if we could bring him in for a vet to see him? she was told no asked again if a vet would see our bird as an emergency.? After being on hold for a few minutes she was told that there were only two doctors there they were double booked could not take any emergencies. She was distraught. Shortly after she called I called and told them the situation again. I was put on hold for a few minutes and again told no. I was told we would probably have to go to Skokie. We live 3 miles from Ness and 60 miles from Skokie so I offered to pay triple the normal fees be there after the last appointment. Again I was told no. I then asked what would happen if I just walked in with our sick bird needs emergency care and was told that I would be turned away. This is our third bird that we have owned and have been going to Ness for over twelve years so needless to say my wife and I are very disappointed at what happened. We called around to several vets who see birds of course short staffed and overbooked Fortunately we found Midwest Exotics Animal Emergency in Elmwood Park. When I called them they also said they were short doctors and overbooked but since it is a respiratory problem bring him in and they would take care of us & they have done an outstanding job considering they have no history I understand that people have lives outside of work but in a potential life threatening situation where our bird was hospitalized put on oxygen etc we've been bumped out of our appointments due to people walking into Ness with sick animals didn't have an appointments because this was not even their regular vet you would think someone would be more understanding and make some exceptions. When [John] Wayne, my bearded dragon, arrived in my life almost two years ago as a little baby, I was a nervous beardie mama. I did all the research I could, consulted with several resources, and did the best to give Wayne a lovely home and a good diet. Within weeks, all of Wayne's brothers and sisters (in other homes) had passed away but Wayne lived on. I knew I had to be doing something right, so I relaxed and worried less as he spent his time chasing crickets, digging in sand, and basking in the [fake] sun. After my cats has been to the vet a month ago, a fellow Yelper recommended Ness Exotic to me in case Wayne needed to go to the vet. I'm glad she did, because I ended up needing to take him recently! For days, Wayne wasn't eating or pooping and generally laying around like a sleepy bum. Odd. My husband called up Ness and booked me an appointment last Saturday. I put my dear Wayne in a shoe box and off we went on his first field trip! Walking into Ness Exotic Wellness Center was like walking into a pet spa. Warm, earthy colors decorated the spacious lobby, natural foods and toys were stocked on shelves, pictures of birds, ferrets, and reptiles adorned the walls, and everyone was wonderfully pleasant. I also learned that Ness provides various holistic and integrative therapies for exotic pets as well as cats & dogs. Love it! Because of the last-minute appointment, I didn't get to see Dr. Ness, but I did see Dr. Torres and he was wonderful. The vet techs/assistants were great too! Everyone was very knowledgable and I had never seen Wayne handled with such skill and compassion. It was fun watching Dr. Torres baby-talk to Wayne while Wayne was poked and examined. A radiograph was done and we found out what was wrong with him: he had accidentally ingested too much sand from his cage and was nearly impacted. Poor guy. He was given a shot of vitamins and some medicine (that I give to him daily). I'm proud of Wayne -- he handled everything quite well! Upon leaving, I was handed my bill ($260 -- yikes!) and a folder with a lot of information on taking care of bearded dragons. I thought that the $65 inital visit cost was a bit high, but then again, Wayne is considered an exotic animal and there aren't too many vets around for such animals. The folder of information was very helpful, too. Although I knew most of it, I did learn some things and make some changes (replaced the sand with reptile carpet, added warmer lights, etc.). Wayne seems to be doing a lot better now! Whew. He's awesome. So is this place. Highly recommended!

Dr. Krumm and the whole staff were amazing with my box turtle Pierogi today. They took great care of his beak today with no stress (He's already eating like a champ!) and got a blood sample quickly and painlessly. Thank you for making Pierogi and his nervous new owner feel supported and welcome!

Our little Abbie. Almost 8 years old and going strong!! Thank you Dr Ness & team!!

Dr. Ness and his staff are the best around!! We have been seeing Dr. Ness for years now, over 17 years to be exact, with all of our ferrets. The treatment, respect and dedication the animals receive from the team at Ness Exotic is impeccable. There is no better vet out there for exotic animals!!! We love that they also believe in holistic medicines. Our little girl is turning 8 years old soon, very old in ferret years, which says a lot on the medical care she has received from day 1! Abbie loves Dr Ness!! Highly recommended!!!

I was really worried about my cat Bella and she needed to go under anesthesia so I was procrastinating a little since she is my little laughter and has asthma. Dr. Berg cares so much that she has even answered my emails after hours. Jordan is always on top of everything as well including immediate calls and emails too which I am sure she gets employee of the month a lot (jk, but she should with how helpful she is). I have had many vets in my life depending on where I was living. Now that I am a home owner, I'm grateful to have such a wonderful vet close by. I can't say enough good things about this establishment since everyone is always so nice, which is very calming especially when you go in there stressed or worried (like most of the time besides buying special food). Dr. Grover is very good and a real nice guy as well though Dr. Berg has been my main doc since she saved Bella's life and it's just worked out that way since I met her first. Dr. Berg and Jordan have probably put extra time in too for me since I send videos (asthma attacks) and we have established a great business relationship and they know how worried I am about my "little princess" as well as my car accident from being hit by the "texting driver". They have a great team there too and are all in sync with each other. Everyone at the front desk are extremely positive and helpful too so it has a wonderful atmosphere. Update: Bella, 12 years of age is now acting 5 years younger and has double the energy. She seems very happy now that her pain seems to be gone as well as she is waking me up at sunrise to open the blinds so she can watch the birds and etc. Her asthma has got a lot better too so I really can't express how happy I am to see her happy again! She is even playing hockey with her ball and loves her toys again. It puts a smile on my face even in these hard times of the pandemic. Thanks Dr. Berg, Jordan, and the staff for everything!

Dr. Jessica is one of the nicest people I have ever interacted with! She is very knowledgeable about cats, and she is great at explaining what is going on in terms that are simple to understand. Something I respect about this practice is that if there is a problem, they always talk about the test/procedure options and prices for everything! I have never had an experience with them where I felt a test they did was unnecessary or a waste of money. This was huge for me, considering my cat Steve has urinary issues that need to be checked out on a regular basis. There was also one time where my 12 year-old cat Sophia needed a surgery (she was 11 at the time). I remember asking Dr. Jessica the following question, "If this was your cat, what would you do?" My partner and I were worried about so many different parts of the surgery like Sophia's well-being and our finances as well. I don't remember exactly what Dr. Jessica said, but all I remember is feeling like all of our concerns were listened to, and I remember her guiding us to the best decision for our fur baby. On surgery day, I also felt so calm and knew Sophia would be in the best hands. Overall, there are so many amazing things that I could say about this practice! Thank you to Dr. Jessica, the vet technicians and the other doctors that have stepped in and helped my kitties! TLDR: The vets at this practice are amazing, and I couldn't imagine taking my babies anywhere else. Definitely check them out!

Our dog partially tore her CCL last November so we scheduled a consult with Dr. Przywara. Right from the start we knew we were in great hands. He did his initial observation of our dog and then came to talk to my husband and I. He was so kind and reassuring, and he was INCREDIBLY thorough. He sat with us for over 45 minutes explaining the anatomy of a canine knee, the injury our dog had, the options to fix it, and answering any and all questions we had. He never pressured us into anything and helped to give us the information we needed to make the right decision. Although we tried a few nonsurgical therapeutic options first, we ultimately decided to do TPLO surgery in February in an effort to get our girl back to 100%. Dr. Przywara did a fantastic job. He and his whole surgical team kept us informed and gave very good and detailed instructions for recovery. They made a tough recovery so much easier. Our girl is now 9 weeks post TPLO and is almost back to 100%! At the end of our final recheck appointment when thanking Dr. Przywara for all of his work with us and Kona, he said "this is why I got into this profession - to help good dogs and good people." And THAT tells you everything you need to know - he's the exact kind of vet you want taking care of your dog!
