Switched from Mokena Animal Clinic. Prices are better and staff are genuinely happy. I had been at mokena animal clinic so long I forgot that the staff at a vet should actually be happy. The vet is wonderful here- very kind. And the support staff are attentive and helpful. I'd much rather give my money to a good clinic that provides quality care at a reasonable price like this one. Now my cat with diabetes who needs regular care will get better care by kinder, upbeat staff- and we will save a fortune. Bonus, they have an exotic animal doctor on staff so we got to see a turkey which my son thought was amazing. read more

I cannot say enough about this clinic. So many wonderful people, especially Peggy and Gina! My David became very very ill and subsequently passed away in 2019. My father passed away the same day my dog passed away. The compassion and love that was given to me, especially from Peggy was absolutely amazing! It made my loss a bit easier. Happily in January 2020 my little Max was born and subsequently I picked him up from my breeder in March 2020! Not recommended. Brought my pet there, paid a premium, saw a doctor who semmed very aloof and confused, and received poor recommendations for treatment that did not work. Said they'd follow up...never did. I called severeal times to track them down, they gave more ineffective advice, and my pet remained ill. They have sadly gone downhill. They lost a $250 cash payment saying it wasn't paid. They made me repay the amount in order to treat my dog that was very sick. I did. We have always taken our dogs here and seen Dr. Johnson. Was always happy. They've been bought out and care definitely suffers. My dog has been sick since August. Dr. Johnson saw her then and we got a short term fix. I called this week to bring her back in after she hadn't eaten in days or had a bowel movement and they wouldn't fit her in. I told them I was going out of town with her and we could bring her in, we were flexible. I called several times and was told sorry, were too full. Come to AZ and she ends up in the vet hospital for 48 hours with severe pancreatitis. My dogs will now be going somewhere else. Emergency appointments like this should always be fit in. I came in with my baby when we had an emergency, canela(my baby) was not in their system as we've never been in that clinic before. But as soon as we got there, we were immediately helped and even if the situation was complicated and stressful, everyone was so kind. The veterinarian was a super kind man who managed to squeeze us in and he did all he could for Canela. The nurses were so nice, especially the one who was there with me, when I was with Canela in the back room table, even though there were little words spoken, i felt comforted. Throughout my whole experience there, i felt like they actually cared for my puppy, they weren't doing it to just do it, they actually cared.... it's hard to find that now a days. Our family has been going to Archer Vet for the past 40+ years. My family treats our dogs like family and we make sure they are always taken care of. I feel totally let down by Archer Vet. This past Friday at 3:15 PM my mom called and told them that her dog Zoe was dying and she needed to bring her in. The Supervisor got on the phone and told her the Doctors were too busy to see her and to bring her to an ER Vet. My Mom pleaded with them to please let her bring Zoe and in and again they said no. She lives 5 minutes from the practice and instead she had to drive 25 minutes to another Vet who took her in right away and did what they could for her. Zoe passed away. I am totally disgusted with how she was treated by the supervisor. I will never bring another pet of mine to Archer Vet. read more

This is the same office that could not respond to 3 attempts of emergency communication through the answering service at a time of crisis or follow up to check on the pet the next morning. These people were beyond awesome. I recently had to put down the family cat. This is obviously not a pleasant experience and I dreaded making the phone call for an appointment. The person who took my call was very kind and sympathetic toward me and what I was calling for. They were able to get me in that day which was for the best. I thought she said me appointment was at 1030am and arrived at 1020-ish. The girl at the desk happened to be the one that took my call. She was sorry but there was a mixup and she said the appointment was for 1230pm. Well, there was NO WAY I was going to be able to leave and then come back again. My heart was already breaking as it was.... She spoke to the Doctor who said...no way...you get him into a room right now and he is not going to have to leave and come back. There were a few people who were involved in this procedure and each and every one of them was very compassionate and kind. This is obviously a delicate ordeal and they gave me as much time as I needed and offered plenty of support while I was there. I was allowed to prepay when I arrived so I was able to duck out of there when it was over and didn't need to sit there crying in the lobby in front of a bunch of strangers which I thought was a nice touch. About a week later we received a "sorry for you loss" card in the mail which was signed by all of the staff. I can't say enough about how great they were during this experience. It was hard enough on me and they did everything right. I wish I had their names to put on here but it doesn't matter, it was the whole staff. read more

This clinic has gone from great care of their patients, to chasing money. They are now more worried about the quantity of patients, opposed to the quality of care. Every time I've been there in the last year, I feel like I've experienced the "Jiffy Lube" experience in that they are trying to up sell everything. Dr. Johnson is great, but what has become of the clinic is terrible. Twice in the last 2 weeks 2 of our dogs needed urgent care and they were unable and unwilling to accommodate us. I've had 5 of my four babies here and I loved the doctors. Since they have done their remodeling and have gotten new doctors in and out they've been very insensitive and rude. They have made my little girl bleed terribly just getting bloodwork or a nail trim. They keep jacking prices up and giving poor service. Wait times are crazy as well. I need to prelude the review by saying it's based on only one visit (since I'm a new customer), but the attention to detail and the relaxed atmosphere in the exam room was not only noticeable, but appreciated. I'd been referred to Dr. Johnson by a friend of a friend who has two dogs of the same breed as mine (Bernese Mt.) and highly recommended him as being quite knowledgeable in the special needs they have. My guy was having some ear discomfort and a growth by a tooth, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to meet this doctor and see if he'd be a good long term fit for us. Plus, Archer is so much closer than the New Lenox vet we've been going to recently (who is also a good vet, but I thought one that has a bit more understanding with my specific breed might be better). During the examination, the doctor took his time in giving my dog "the once over" as he checked temperature, kidneys, hips, joints, etc to make sure his health is in good standing. He seemed to instantly find the cause of the ear issue (fluid) and show me through the ear spyglass they use. But most impressively, he seemed to know exactly what the growth was in my pup's mouth and suggested a few options as to how to remedy it. His calm demeanor put me at ease and so did the reasonable pricing he gave me for it. Naturally, I'll do whatever it takes to keep my dog healthy, but it's quite a relief when the cost is something you can afford. Looks like I'll be making Archer my primary vet from now on and will look forward to them helping keep my boy healthy for many, many more years to come! read more

This is a great vet. My family has been taking their dogs here for years, so naturally, when I got my very own pup, I started taking her there. I now live way on the Northside of the city, and still drive all the way down to Archer Veterinary Clinic for my vet visits for two main reasons: 1) the staff here is exceptional; they are helpful and patient with my crazed (and partially insane) dog, and 2) the cost-savings vs taking her to a city vet are insane. I took my lab in because he was licking his paws. Saw Dr. Jo and she suggested an injection called cytopoint. Asked over and over again I this was safe and she assured me it was. Well 2 hours after Max experienced extreme diarrhea shooting out of him and smelled. Read forums from people and was shocked to find out a lot of healthy dogs died about 2 to 3 weeks after this injection. Some died after 5th injection. Vets should research their meds before commenting on it. I am not happy at all. I have had no sleep and now really worried about Max. He is only 6 months old. Don't take vets word check it out yourself. Not happy with this place. Dr. Johnson is never there anymore. read more

I had an appointment on Aug. 12th with Dr. Huzinga for a dental cleaning for my dog. I checked this place out before making my appointment; having actually driven to the facility to check out the staff and facilities. My dogs dental cleaning went very well and I was call a couple of times through the day, being given the status of my dogs condition. I picked him up later that afternoon and he was tired but otherwise in great condition. Within 6 hours, he was back to normal; eating his food and playing like nothing happened. Not only was this clinic very caring and professional, but I saved HALF in what my now (former) VCA clinic was going to charge me. They also price match for heart-worm medicine; just bring a print out of a legit company online and they'll match the price! Very cool of them to do that since most Vets will simply give you 20% off, which ends up still being way much more $$ then online. I spent $318.00 for the procedure which was going to cost me $650.00 at VCA! Glad I found Archer Veterinary Clinic....good bye VCA! read more

Great prices and friendly (but very busy) staff! A few friends had been recommending this place for a while. When I really needed to get my dogs in for vaccinations, check-up and heart worm tests, I knew the price would add up. I called my regular place and then I decided to call Archer Vet. The prices were much, much lower. My friend raved about how nice they were there too, so its not like you are getting a cheaper price for less service. I was not disappointed. I was glad to have had my dogs established there in the Fall last year because just a couple months after that, one of my dogs stole my bagel that had Xylitol sweetener on it. I know it can be deadly to dogs very quickly. I called Archer Vet and they gave me instructions to get my dog to vomit using a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Then they got me an immediate appointment. For getting monitoring for 1/2 a day and stomach pumped, I am sure they price would have been double at my other vet. Very happy to have found this vet and is just off of 355 (south of I-55)....very easy to get to. read more

This place is the best!! The staff could not be more amazing, or accommodating. We recently brought in our 5 year old rescue, Lulu, for her first appointment after we adopted her. She is not good with other dogs yet and they were so nice and let us come in the back entrance, and I just know Lu felt like a VIP! This made the visit start and end about five thousand times less stressful than it could have been. In addition, they really took the best care of her. Due to a pre-existing condition, we had to get Lu 3 different medications. She also got her nails clipped. We were shocked how little the bill came to at the end. My husbands's family has been coming here for years and I definitely know why!!! read more

The best veterinary clinic around. I absolutely love the staff. Special shout-out to Penny, she is such a kind sweet person. Even if you are having a bad day she just gives off that energy of happiness and you cannot help but smile. As for everyone else they are just as great. I know that there are long waits and they sometimes do not answer but that is only because they are extremely busy. Everyone needs to cut them a break. Just because you have to wait a little longer does not give you the right to bad mouth this clinic. This just proves that they are amazing because they are always packed and busy. Cut them some slack. They care about every animal that comes in. Just remember that they do not rush you out (hence longer wait times) so be understanding you do not know what kind of day they have had, animals do not talk so be patient they have to do a process to figure out what's wrong with your pet, this is why there may be longer waits. I don't care if I had to wait 40 minutes because I truly know they give me the best service. Also fur-baby parents are the ones speaking for the pets so they have to explain many different aspects of the pets behavior and sometimes they can talk too much causing them to get backed up. Dr. Johnson you having a spectacular practice!! Keep up the amazing work. Giving a negative review over answering phones and long waits is just unfair to any business, Put yourself in their shoes! How would you feel if they rushed you out because they are trying to make up for longer appointments that ran over the allotted time? That would be terrible! We have been coming here since it was a small one room clinic with just dr Johnson and he is an amazing vet. Since it's grown things have changed. There is only one doctor that is competent besides dr Johnson. Dr Ashanti is amazing.The problem is they turn you away when you need them. My dog needed to be euthanized,she was suffering. They saw her the day before(paid a $700 bill) and yet they said they were too busy. I had to rush to find an emergency vet! That is wrong. They just turned my moms dog away after seeing her twice this week and saying nothing was wrong. My mom paid hundred of dollars for tests and X-rays and was told she was fine. She collapsed last night so we rushed her to ER vet. She had fluid around the lungs that archer missed even after a chest X-ray. Still my mom wanted to bring her in to her trusted vet for a follow up and once again they were to busy. It's honestly ridiculous.why even have a family vet if they turn you away in your time of need! The front staff is awful. They have zero compassion and caring. Find some caring front desk staff and take care of your long time patients....it's not that difficult. Thank god we found a vet that got us in and showed more compassion and caring for our dog than our regular vet office that was too busy to be bothered. That's just wrong. We wont be going back.
